    Having the D for regular driving to save a little.fuel.and then the S for performance is a nice feature.

  • @CornyGarage
    @CornyGarage Год назад +14

    It’s really common sense. More info: Regular drive you can use paddles but it’ll shift itself when you hit shift point if you go WOT. It’ll also switch back to driving itself if you don’t keep using them or just start cruising. “S” will keep it in paddle mode and not shift for you until you use the paddles. Drive mode toggle Sport+ will do the same thing “S” shifter select does but the “D” paddle effect remains. “S” shifter select is the only way to have full control with paddles. “D” will let you go up or down in gears and then go back to shifting itself after 5ish seconds of no response. The toggle select drive modes will just effect throttle response and how aggressive it downshifts and how it stays in gears. Drag mode is a different animal. Drag mode cuts off at 7th gear because that’s the 1:1 gear. It also keeps torque through the shift so it jumps out super hard compared to any other drive mode. The ideal way to “roll race” is to put it in drag mode, toggle and hold traction to turn off advanced track, leave it in “D”, down shift to desired gear and then hit it. Car takes over and you don’t have to “bump” from “S” to “D” to shift itself.

    I literally found out about this by mistake. I use to drive my mustang on sport mode but never put the gear stick in sport mode itself when one day I decided to try it and oh my god the throttle response was insane. It’s like I fell in love with the car all over again. I literally gassed it down the road. Lost abit of traction because it was so so quick but my god it was fun like a proper American muscle car.

    I just thought you knew this and was always using Sport mode during spirited driving like pulls. I forgot you didn't receive a manual, but my 300C didn't include a manual. Everything is found on my infotainment screen. Take a look. It might be on yours. It fun using the paddles, but the S mode rips the gears faster than you pull the paddles without concerns of hitting the rev limiter. When you use the regular drive setting it's going through the 10 gears. It's for highway use and provides better fuel economy around town. Sports mode changes the way it shifts automatically for performance driving while changing gears rapidly under acceleration like a machine gun. Your Mach 1 has a different programed automatic transmission than the GT. It was tuned for performance. I own a 2018 modded Chrysler 300C Hemi with an 8 speed automatic. I use "D" drive around town and on the highway to improve fuel mileage. I bracket race every weekend. I only use "S" sport mode at the track while using the sports mode setting on my dash which improves throttle response. I also use a Pedal Commander with traction control off. (I recommend doing research regarding the Pedal Commander). My sports mode only uses 6 gears instead of 8. Not sure about your 10R80. For Drag racing I found letting the transmission shift eliminated the chance of hitting the rev limiter using the paddle shifters. When I'm messing around on city streets, I use my paddle shifter. By the way. I can also use my paddle shifters when in normal "D" drive dropping a gear or more for passing or descending a steep hill. You'll have to test that on your Mach 1. In my Ford Edge ST. I normally use the 8 speed in regular drive mode on the highway and for fuel saving. I use sport for spirited driving around town. There's a huge performance difference using S Sport vs D Drive modes in both vehicles. Keep enjoying that Mach 1.

    Been driving my 10spd for 3 years now and I have to say you're not quite right. You do not need to be in "S" for it to be "sporty". That's what you're drive modes are for, you have normal, sport + & track which you can use in "D". Untuned, "S" will become manual only once you click one of the paddles, it will donwshift for you still but will not upshift.

    • @JakeTiesler
      @JakeTiesler  2 года назад +4

      Exactly, you don't need to be in "S" for it to be sporty but you can't have it in "D". Don't use "D", unless you toggle into sport +, but you can't get normal dampers in sport +.

    If I understand correctly then, if you have Magneride S doesn't change the suspension or open the active exhaust . Also if it's a base EB or GT S is the only "sport mode" available. If you have a 101A /201A or higher trim car without Magneride using the toggle switch or shifting into S is the same thing.

    Normal Mode = economy mode practically
    (SUCKS)
    Sport+ mode = true throttle limited only by traction
    control, sport steering, rpm's will not drop below ~2000pm which will result in engine breaking as you decelerate, gears will hold after aggressive throttle until you drive at a constant speed, then it will upshift. If you drive over ~60mph, 6th gear will engage because at that speed you are over 2000pm. Therefore, awesome for highway driving over 60mph, but might be too aggressive for city driving.
    Track mode = same in every way to Sport+
    except, traction is reduced but not removed entirely. What this means is that when you perform WOT's you won't experience lag, making it more "responsive" when you do WOT's. (roll at any speed for example and WOT in Sport+ and then in Track and you'l notice an annoying lag in Sport+ and it's absence in Track). Perfect for racing

    From a roll I go in s and work the paddles to the right rpm. Usually around 5k. When I punch it I quickly shift to drive to let the car do the work. No traction control when I have my mickey’s and welds on. The car is not stock.

    I drive in D, and use the S mode as a downshift button basically, yes I could paddle down but using S makes the throttle angle sharper so I get a bit more passing power.

    Here’s where you are not totally correct! D is normal drive and in normal D you can toggle the modes that change a lot of other parameters but the S mode is not Sport it is Select Shift! So yes it will get a sporty shift pattern but if you select a gear with paddles it will hold that gear until you select another gear or hold the + paddles for 3 seconds and then it will return to auto shift in S mode but it is called Select Shift not Sport

    I really hate this transmission it has really rough down shift especially the 3th gear and the second gear + if I rev my engine at (N ) then changing to D after the rpm goes down there will be a harsh knock in the gear and the car jumps forward. Did you have that?

    • @guitaristkirby
      @guitaristkirby Год назад +2

      Folks get confused about the difference. Shifting into sport will give you higher RPMs and better engine breaking and it is what you want to do when in a hilly area. You don't actually need to shift into S for any other reason because Sport+ mode also gives you higher RPMs and better engine breaking but it also changes your steering, dampers (if equipt) , active ehaust (if equipt) and tweaks the computer settings. I use Sport+ all the time, but I leave the stick in D. As a note, I don't have the paddles, which is a reason to use S on the shifter.

    • @JakeTiesler

      Sport plus toggle gives sport suspension, exhaust, throttle, shifts
      Yes you can drive in D with sport plus
      When I’m sport plus and you pull the shifter into S, this will allow the car to hold the gears if you touch the paddles until you click it back into D

    • @carcar5911
      @carcar5911 Год назад

      @JakeTiesler I thought the sports plus toggle in D mode was the sporty mode. And it is more responsive and sounds great. But when I found out that you can use S on the shifter and sports plus on the toggle without using the paddle shifters it felt like beast mode was unleased! Amazing! I love it!. But I do mostly drive in normal mode to save gas. I'm trying to get it to 18 mph average. I'm currently at 17.8. But sometimes when I just wanna go cruising and have fun I'll use sports mode
