The only reason I see for want of a different tire is hoping for better results over the competition. If the manufacturer sells the car with a specific tire or tire option then that's what you test with. The manufacturer knows what their competition is using and if they didn't want to use the same tire or a more capable tire then the end result is the end result. Having the same tires doesn't mean an equal playing field, what you get from the manufacturer is what you get.

@Jack Dalisky bro, its got the same bore spacing as any other modular motor, lol. The cylinder heads and physical dimensions are the same (minus some better porting and camshafts) The only real difference is its non-traditional flat plane with cross plane counter weights, as well as a tiny bit of extra displacement lol. I'm not saying that it's not awesome, but its not some clean sheet special child. Ford is poor and did what they could with what they had.
@Jack Dalisky well I mean it is technically special with how it's throws are setup. Literally no one else does it like that. Probably because it has even worse vibration than a normal flat plane design. That's why there are counter weights lmao
@Jack Dalisky coming from an owner, if your looking for a collector car, gt350 all the way. If you want to go fast, any coyote will always outperform a voodoo. There are hundreds of examples of boosted coyotes from 1200-2000 horsepower, while I've only seen a handful of vodoo 5.2 making around 1000hp. The flatplane crank is its weakness.

Even though I know the automatic is faster, I would still pick a manual transmission. You get one of these cars because they are fun, and being a manual just makes it more fun.
@@chrismorris9475 that is not true. The way people were incredibly fast with manuals is keeping their foot on the gas and shifting very fast. This is very bad for the trans but it is fast. Unfortunately for your theory, modern autos now power through the ultra fast shift. There is no reduction in throttle built into the tuning. Which means it’s literally impossible to be faster in a manual. Go drive one. The 1-2 shift of a modern auto sports car is violent, and if you drive one you will immediately think “ok there’s no way I’m touching that in a manual”
Great video Randy! I just sold my 2018 1LE. It was a blast while I owned it, truly an amazing package for the money. Just couldn't pass up this crazy used car market, got $6k more than I paid for it. My crystal ball says I'll have another later on when prices settle back down.

Nice job Randy, you know your stuff. This was very interesting in that you have the newest baddest 5.0 10R80 against a slightly used 3 year old manual 1LE with bad brakes but track alignment. I have to say I’m impressed the SS was so close even with its brake and loose rear conditions, love to see 2 10 speeds against each other. I really wish GM cared as much about the Camaro as Ford does the Mustang, in a perfect world Chevy would be putting LT2s in SSs now, and the new LT6 FPC DOHC 5.5 V8 from upcoming ZO6 in a Camaro Z/28, and why not put LT5 in the ZL1? These type cars are on the way out, I wish Chevy would put as much in it as Dodge and Ford have for the last muscle car war. Keep making your own videos Pobst, I’ll watch them religiously.
The sheer joy you have for driving/racing comes through in every video. The raw honesty in your commentary is refreshing and greatly appreciated. Thanks for doing what you do!

My son had a 2019 Crush Orange 2SS 1LE until this past Monday. I couldn't believe how good that thing handled corners. Lots of fun. Just now learning the difference between ZL1 and 1LE, confusing badging too me. I also have trouble with Toronto watch and tornado warning. Yeah I know, its not the subject, it’s my brain. Really enjoyed this video.
I went to the Ford Performance Racing School for free, which is a perk that Ford provides for buying a Mach 1. It was at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Great experience!
Man, as close as these were, I would have loved to see it with two new "as delivered" cars. So many unknowns on a used car, like you mentioned the brake pads or needing a brake flush. I'm a GM guy, but I have to respect that Mach I. I've always loved the Mach I and Boss brands.
Very true so many unknown with used cars, does it have a tune, he said the ass end kicks out does it have taller shorter gears, aftermarket clutch, suspension mods??? Was in a track alignment.... Anything to help it or not help it in comparison to a factory car.
@@The2001cobra its was a bone stock car just had bigger tires on it than factory which was provided for this video . I figured out the issue on the rear end coming around . Randy I have been watching you put down fast lap times for more years than I can remember, I just found out about your channel and I look forward to all your future content.
Great video Randy! I love both of those cars. Ya left out the part where ya pulled the Camaro over and threw away that atrocious dash pad!! 😆 Good stuff!!!
With the braking problems on the 1LE, I'm betting they've not been heated & bedded (or they're glazed/old/substandard pads) and it's not filled with DOT4 or 5.1 fluid. Normally those things are facerippers and nearly impossible to fade. Glad that Randy put the Sport Cups on the SS to even out the cars.
@Nathan Amaral I agree. however, with a track alignment like the 1LE had the advantage likely goes back to the Mustang. I would like to see the same test with a newer, auto 1LE and both having the track alignment.
Working a lot harder in the 1LE compared to the Mach 1. Looked like had more fun in the Camaro as well. Both are great every day cars that you can take to the track and have a lot of fun. The price disparity between the two cars brand new is huge though. A Mach 1 with the track package will run you north of $60k and a well equipped one is almost $70k. The Camaro well equipped with the 1LE package is less than $55k. That is a huge difference in price that will help you afford tires on those track days if you go with the 1LE.
Nice vid! "A little a$$y in the corners" - gonna remember that one for use at my next HPDE. I'm a hard-core BMW enthusiast, but keep thinking back to my old fox body GT/manual from college. The Mach 1 is really checking a lot of boxes for me. Had a HPDE student a couple years back with a GT350R that I was able to drive on track - really brought Ford back into my radar, but I don't think the Shelby is quite right for me. The Mach 1 really gets me thinking....
Great test review! Wish the 1LE had the 10 speed as well, would love to see the difference on that alone never mind the brake fade issue. GM / Ford 10 speed is one slick tranny.
@@thagoon8000 game changer for someone who can not drive a manual yes but in the right hands the manual is just as fast as the auto around the track. Especially with the lighter weight, longer second and third gear, rev match, more power to the ground with less drive train loss(20whp difference) . The only advantage that auto has is on the long straights depending on what gear you are on the speed will be higher.

Also the front struts was rubbing on inner tire (305 vs factory 285 guys) solved with a small 5mm spacer . ill make some tweaks with the alignment to see if we can get her more stable but i think we found the issue . otherwise she did great even with small issues vs a car more than double what i paid for mine !

I wonder what traction setting it was at. If it's in eDiff Sport 2 or track, stability/vehicle dynamics are supposed to be off. Just the fact alone that the Camaro is a M6 makes it the winner in this. Let alone the crazy price difference.
I saw your name pop up. Instantly subscribed, been an admirer of yours for a very long time. Always find you insightful and knowledgeable. Thanks! Now I am second guessing my GT350. Lol
Thank you Randy for the killer content! Always a professional, no BS reviews. Camaro owner here, Mach 1 is sweet, not surprised by the outcome considering brakes, age, mileage of these cars.
Yeah, thanks! The auto has close ratios and very quick shifts, it's good enough to be faster, but Mustang did not havde a track alignment. We got 'em close as we could.
You call this fair? You can clearly see the Randy's driving was off. It seemed like it was his first time driving a manual 1le. He also put some used tires on the 1le that have been used several times. And let's not forget about the brake pads, which sounds like some owner put low dust ( non 1le pads) on it. I no longer watch any content from Randy. He lost all credibility on this one.
@Swadaeel they werent just any "used tires" either. They were michelin sport cup 2's with 3 laps on them. I have a lot of respect for the Camaro. Over the years it's forced the Mustang to keep getting better. I really thought that it was going to go the the Camaro. I was really tickled that the Mach 1 prevailed, because I just bought one. If it had been a ZL1 1LE, I sure that it would've prevailed.
Great fun video! Thank you for this! Yeah, in my family, I was always rooting for the Mustang and my brother was always rooting for the Camaro. Great cars by American giants. Thanks!
Awesome review Randy great stuff. I’m glad there’s someone out there that reviews cars average Americans can afford. I’m a sucker for limited edition mustangs maybe the Mach 1 will be my next purchase.
The handling pack Mach1 has camber plates so you can do a track set up. I have Steeda camber plates on my non handling pack Mach1, (actually, the entire under carriage is all Steeda suspension farkles.) I Have the track axis punch marks (max caster too) and the street setting axis punch marks on my strut tower. You can jack the car up, loosen the camber plate nuts and be move the suspension (helps to have a buddy spotting) and lock it down. Track ready in less than 15 minutes with a Jack and a 17mm socket fired up. Truth be told, with all of the steeda sway bars/links, vertical links, adjustable rear toe arms, sub frame alignment spacers, rear IRS braces, front K 2-point brace, magneride springs-- 10x19 fronts, 11x19 rears from LMR. The car is a bit more track oriented than the stock car (which is decent for track days), but no so over wrought as to take away the day to day drivability.
40k miles, dubious brakes and only 4/10s of a second difference? Thats impressive! That’s the difference in drivers. The Camaro held its own. Great video content! I’m subscribing right now. Let’s go do this!
I like the track comparison videos with Mr. Pobst driving. I remember many years ago standing in the pits at Lime Rock watching the (World Challenge?) cars come down the downhill during practice or qualifying. Mr. Pobst was driving a red MR2 and each lap got the left rear wheel a little more off the outside. I remember thinking he wasn't going to make it the next lap, and sure enough he didn't and the crash was fairly spectacular. His aggression and skill have certainly taken him a long way in motorsports and surely prove the old Andretti saying, "sometimes you just have to come back with just the steering wheel in your hand." I look forward to more videos
Hey Randy, I noticed different helmets and you were very hard to understand with that full face helmet. Much clearer with the open face helmet you used in the camaro. Love your reviews.

@randy do you think you'll redo this test when you can get a hold of the 2021 or 2022 Chevy ss 1le with the 10 speed auto? That's available now. Originally 1les were only manuals. Additionally the 1le didn't have the oem 1le rims that are forged for weight reduction, not sure if those z/28 reps are heavier or not. Simple: excess vibration due to an improper design. Driver can feel it. It damages it's bearings if run at 8000 rpm long term. The Mustang teams do not race it. GT500 is cross-plane again, and GT still is.

Both are great cars. It's amazing to see what these cars have become over the last decade. We're definitely in a golden age of muscle.
Thank you Randy and the filming crew!
Great art and animations! The SS 1LE is definitely the value winner since the Mach is so expensive, but the Mach is definitely a pretty sweet product.
Yup, I came to the comments section to say: that Mach 1 is about $10k MORE than the Mustang. When you take price into account, the Camaro wins easily.

Even though I know the automatic is faster, I would still pick a manual transmission. You get one of these cars because they are fun, and being a manual just makes it more fun.
I am not sure I know its bad but if you double clutch out of those corners you could pull away from that automatic.
@@chrismorris9475
You are right. I’m not sure you know
@@chrismorris9475 that is not true.
On a pre 18 mustang yes manual all day but 18+ 10r80 will win everytime , 17 and older defimtley manual trans
@@chrismorris9475 absolutely not. The TR6060 is not beating the 10 speed auto no matter who is behind the wheel.

Me too....Mustangs got me into Camaros...LOL
Very true so many unknown with used cars, does it have a tune, he said the ass end kicks out does it have taller shorter gears, aftermarket clutch, suspension mods??? Was in a track alignment.... Anything to help it or not help it in comparison to a factory car.
Well tell GM to give him a new one to test next time lol.

Great video Randy! I love both of those cars. Ya left out the part where ya pulled the Camaro over and threw away that atrocious dash pad!! 😆 Good stuff!!!
Great content Randy! Who cares about a few audio hiccups, your feedback and commentary is fantastic! Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, I think you are right. Unusual to have a 1LE not stop, and the pads did look a bit worn.
I bet it still has the factory brake fluid with 40k miles on it; maybe all it needs is fresh fluid.
@Nathan Amaral I agree. however, with a track alignment like the 1LE had the advantage likely goes back to the Mustang. I would like to see the same test with a newer, auto 1LE and both having the track alignment.
Hell yeah, didn't know you have a channel, always loved watching you test drive the cars on other shows, legendary driver
I love this guy in the most purely platonic way possible.
Awesome video.
Thanks a mill. 👍
The best thing about watching older people making content is they're not try-hards and don't think everything needs to be a meme
The current 2020/ 21 Camaro 1le SS has 10 speed in which he should have compared
I have a 10 speed ss 1le and let me tell you, GAME CHANGER
@@thagoon8000 game changer for someone who can not drive a manual yes but in the right hands the manual is just as fast as the auto around the track. Especially with the lighter weight, longer second and third gear, rev match, more power to the ground with less drive train loss(20whp difference) . The only advantage that auto has is on the long straights depending on what gear you are on the speed will be higher.

Thank you again Randy ! The car forsure needed a little more bleeding on the brakes to get the pedal firm again , I had someone who was half asleep pressing pedal the first time lol .
Also the front struts was rubbing on inner tire (305 vs factory 285 guys) solved with a small 5mm spacer . ill make some tweaks with the alignment to see if we can get her more stable but i think we found the issue .
otherwise she did great even with small issues vs a car more than double what i paid for mine !
the car did awsome man truthfully I wish he would have ran the stock tire size with the supercar 3s to really feature the car as close to factory as possible.. but being that close with a M6 vs an A10 really speaks for the car enjoy it I have had my 19 ss 1le for about 6 months now and could not be more happy
Assuming you’re the 1le owner, might I suggest getting new oe pads and changing your brake fluid to Castrol SRF. You never know what the previous owner used and these brakes shouldn’t fade.
Once done, let’s revisit this comparison!

I wonder what traction setting it was at. If it's in eDiff Sport 2 or track, stability/vehicle dynamics are supposed to be off. Just the fact alone that the Camaro is a M6 makes it the winner in this. Let alone the crazy price difference.
Great to see Randy pick the mustang for once!

Awesome review Randy great stuff. I’m glad there’s someone out there that reviews cars average Americans can afford. I’m a sucker for limited edition mustangs maybe the Mach 1 will be my next purchase.
The handling pack Mach1 has camber plates so you can do a track set up. I have Steeda camber plates on my non handling pack Mach1, (actually, the entire under carriage is all Steeda suspension farkles.) I
Have the track axis punch marks (max caster too) and the street setting axis punch marks on my strut tower.

His aggression and skill have certainly taken him a long way in motorsports and surely prove the old Andretti saying, "sometimes you just have to come back with just the steering wheel in your hand." @randy do you think you'll redo this test when you can get a hold of the 2021 or 2022 Chevy ss 1le with the 10 speed auto? That's available now. Originally 1les were only manuals. Additionally the 1le didn't have the oem 1le rims that are forged for weight reduction, not sure if those z/28 reps are heavier or not.
Thanks for doing these videos, love that you can hear your passion for cars in every ride!
@Ryan Kinmartin, those are NOT Z/28 wheels. Replica or otherwise. Completely different design. I own a 2015 Z/28.
Randy, could you go into the weeds on your experience regarding the flat plane crank in the 350 and it not being happy long term on the track?
Simple: excess vibration due to an improper design. Driver can feel it. It damages it's bearings if run at 8000 rpm long term. The Mustang teams do not race it. GT500 is cross-plane again, and GT still is.
Love the depth and honesty.

Randy, great video. I think you may want to consider comparing the Mach1 to a price comparable Camaro. I purchased my 19 ZL1 1LE for 63K before dealer fees and tax. I know that Mach1 with the Performance Pack is 62K.
Camaro would eat it, Randy can't trash Ford with an evenly priced car race.
Excellent comparison. In my opinion, the Mustang looks a lot better, but I would be fine driving either one. That GM Alpha platform has been one of the world's best for a long time.
For sure but a newer Camaro better set up would have been better.
@@gtrance3567 Makes no difference if it is new or not. As long as it is correctly set up (Chevy Track alignment, OEM tires, OEM brake pads, and high temp brake fluid) it will not have a soft/long brake pedal (as Randy mentioned) and won't oversteer mid-corner. All of which should easily drop .4 sec off lap times at AMP.

It's good for street use, occasional 8000 rpm, but it does not hold up to racing at constant high revs. Too much vibration.
