The 2021 Mustang Mach 1 Is Doomed - Review
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 сен 2021
- The new Mustang Mach 1 is an absolute weapon. It sits above the GT Premium and below the GT500 and splits the difference in performance and price. It has a revised 5.0 Coyote engine making an addtional 20hp over the GT with a revised intake, oil filter adapter, oil cooler and some tuning. The standard Tremec 6 speed manual transmission is lifted from the GT350 as is the sub frame. It has a whole host of boy racer aero components that are functional and provide downforce and and also smooth out the airflow to reduce drag. The $3,500 handing package is a must have as you get unique wheels made of cast aluminum that are 1" wider than the regular wheels. They're also 2lbs lighter. 305/30R19 front 315/30R19 rear.
Ford has packed this car with tech from the GT350 and GT500 into a more affordable and likely more reliable package. This is a fantastic track car and needs next to nothing to put down laps right from the showroom.

You keep saying $68K, but MSRP in the U.S. is around $63,000, you must be in Canada, eh?
I messed up. It's $63,745 in the US. I put that on screen later in the video
@@revmatchtv No worries, here in California with tax and license it will be well over $70K.

I have one and I love it!! I am 58 and drove a used eight year old 73 Mach 1 in high school. My thought is very few folks track this car. I drive it like a GT. It does not beat me up and if you are not on the gas it is not roaring at you which I like. At this point I don't need a constant loud car anymore. I think Ford targeted my generation and they did a great job. Could it have a better interior? Of course. I think it should have had a 360 camera and a better sound system, but all in all. I am keeping mine for a very long time. I am surprised how much attention it gets. Camaros love looking at my rear end!! I thought I was beyond juvenile road games but catch me on the right day and the Mach 1 says it's on let's go!!
Funny, all I leave in the dust are Mustangs in my ZLE.
I’m from the same generation. I’m 59 years old and I love my Mach1 with the handling package. It’s a bad car! Enjoy
My grand father had an older blue Mach one with the long hood. He drove it here in Vt with bags of dirt in the trunk, and winter rear tires. I now have a 22 Mach 1. Not sure what year his was as i was really young in the late 80`s when he was driving it.
I'm 49 and I've been a Mustang and corvette fan/owner for 30 years, I've have a nice mix of Premium GT's and Z06's, and even recently a C8, and I have to say this Mach 1 is absolutely visually stunning. Every time I'd purchased a mustang, it's been a canvas that I attempt to paint my masterpiece with a lot of money in the aftermarket. This Mach 1 with the handling package comes PERFECT from the factory. The appearance is a perfect blend of sports-car beauty and beefy muscle-car badd-assness.
This car got LOADS of attention when I had it for the week. I agree - I think it looks incredible.
I have a '14 GT500 and I have to say that Ford just makes one hell of a car. Despite its flaw, it's still such a fun car to drive 8 years after purchase. Yes the interior is terrible, but you can see out of it (looking at you Camaro). I have no doubt that anyone who gets a Mach 1 will love it for years to come!
These along with yours will be Collectors Cars in the future as well !! Lol
That car is awesome.. I’ll miss the gt350. I will hold on to gas powered cars as long as possible. Much love to the 5.0. It’s a great engine
The GT350 is a legendary car with a screaming engine. Pour one out :(
If the GT350 wasn’t a ticking time bomb I would have kept mine. In 6 months of ownership it went back to dealership to fix lose motor mounts and dampeners . Knowing my luck my motor would have gone next even tho it didn’t burn much oil with amsoil.
26,000 miles vs 20,000 miles? No concern at all.
@Jerry Olson seeing as they have piston oil squirters, forged and coated pistons, bearings and crank, and aren’t constantly at a high rpm for daily driving; this isn’t really relevant
@@AntilleanConfederation what year was your 350?
This is an older video....but let me say, I DO "value a v8-manual" and I DID pick one up! Less than 1,000 miles on it in Jun'23 and it is SO much fun to drive. Almost every review says it is a complete, sorted, engaging package and I agree. When these cars go away, our children will be BEGGING us to teach them how to drive and enjoy these cars. So happy I got one of the last Mach 1s (I cant handle the "2-IPad interior" of the S650). I smile, and even laugh, every time I get to drive my Mach1.
This sled is an instant classic and collectible. For those fans who loved the GT350 yet couldn't afford it {now faced with the flat plane crank issues..} AND wished for the 10speed auto option, well here it is. Well done Ford, you listened and delivered. 👏
These reviews keep getting better Eric, keep it up. Love the Mach 1, especially in blue 💙
Thanks man. This is my favorite review to date.
I think the rear seat delete is less for weight savings (although you get some) and more for ease of installing a roll cage/fire suppression system.
Question. Driving in different "modes", does this change the MPG?? ((Driving normally of course in all modes))
Dude, the hook and delivery is great!
Thanks!
Love the emotianal approach to the emotional car - thats what it is all about. No lap times, no 0-60 times, no rational arguments .. it‘s the pure emotion driving such a mach 1 and having a great time even going slow ! Very good review !
The Mach 1 is one of the most emotional cars I've driven in a long time. I think the Dark Horse will be more of the same!
Had to sell my 2012 Boss a few years back (they actually went up on price). I was looking forward to buying another one but I think they did such an awesome job on this Mach 1, I'm gonna have to go with the new Mach 1. LOVE THEM COYOTE ENGINES!!!
What about the gt350
@@bmacster1985 ... Love em but don't trust the Voodoo as much as the Coyote... Though if they stopped making them the GT-350's value with that engine may go through the roof in the near future.
@@roberthall6560 understandable
I hear exactly what your saying about ev's. I'm going drive my combustion engines until the wheels fall off. The sounds and rowing through the gears is what make it fun.
One of the last of its kind. Beautiful !!! I own the normal GT but lowered and with wheel spacers and INJEN Intake so it is also awesome to drive on country roads!
What are the wheel spacers for??
@@bmacster1985 ...for the much better look and a better road holding because of a wider track width!
@@rolexr so when you look at the car from the front you see the tires sticking out past the fender??
Tons of videos of this car on the Internet, still: love the approach you took and the music you incorporated. Very clean examination of an iconic car. Thank you for putting this together for us. 🔧 ✌️
Glad you enjoyed it! I love the Mach 1.
It's a great looking car but is there enough of a difference from a GT to warrant the extra cost? Love the appearance package though
The one I configured was a Mach 1 premium in Twister 🍊 Handling & Elite package $62,540!
The foglight covers are removable and ramair to the airbox and transcooler.
Update: I was able to order my 2022 Mach1 with Handling Pack back on November of 2021 from a dealer in another state for 2% under Invoice. It is March 2022 and my car has still not been assigned a build date. Hoping it gets built sometime in early May, with June delivery. If you want one at a good price, checkout the Mach 1 section of the mustang6g forum, there are two dealers actually willing to give great deals.
Unfortunately delays are everywhere
I was ordering mine luckily enough they have 3 coming in exactly how I want for October in the uk. As of Wednesday this week Ford have been emailed saying they are no longer making the Mach 1 as it isn’t cost affective.
I have a 2021 GT performance pack with every single bell and whistle you can have, wondering how different this gear box feels as well as a little extra HP. Would love to get into one of these and drive it, as well as get into a GT350(r) and feel the difference. Not interested in anything not manual ;)
Having owned more than one MT-82s and a 2019 GT350, I can tell you the transmission is sooooo much better.
@@jmhutner jealous. The MT82 for the most part is fine for me. I'm not tracking my car, and even some back road, more aggressive driving it's fine but definitely would like something a little smoother and quicker.
Same here. I love my 2020 Bullitt, but would like to drive either the Mach 1 or a GT350 to fell the difference in transmission? I wonder how much to upgrade it in my Bullitt?
2:49 was that engine sound was really the manual shifting ? Sounds like the a10
Same on 5:14 lol
Thanks for this! Are all modern V8 Mustangs 32V now? When did that begin?
The reason why sales may not be good for the Mach 1 has nothing to do with EV's. A Mach 1 buyer has no use for an EV, however many, if not most will opt to buy a new C8 for the same money. The C8 has changed the market for anyone who makes a performance sports car that sells from 50K to 150K.
The C8 upped the game considerably! Competition is great.
What about the headlights is from the GT-500? The GT-500 has the 2015-2017 headlights. They are a different shape
2:46 "Just get the manual" but exhaust audio is from the 10-speed. lol
No it’s not that’s the rev matching feature on the up and down shifts.
Great review. The Mach 1 is a really well balanced car (think of a polished Boss 302) that does the Mustang proud. It has bucket loads of character and makes very good use of the parts from the right bin, that make it a blast to drive. Ford did it right....
I wholeheartedly agree. It's essentially a GT350 without the trick flat plane crank engine.

Nice work. One of the best reviews I have seen on these Mach 1’s. Thank you for posting!
Ps. I’m buying one this month ; )
I've been thinking about buying one since I made this video
Wheels on the handling package (featured in this video) have 19x10.5 in the front and 19x11 rear. Base model Mach 1 is 9.5 front and 10 rear
Why do u say the headlights are from a gt500 they are just standard headlights, and why not give the exact mm for the tire width instead of estimating inchea
Great video - I purchased a Mach 1 July 23 - one of the last brand new ones in the U.K. - great video Eric , love the car , mines Cyber Orange
I think they did an amazing job with the new mach 1, im going to save up money make my credit stronger and wait for the new updated versions to come out for the mach 1 before i grab one
Excellent review! You’re right about the heavy nature of these brutes. A light weight 2500 -3000 Mustang like the original would be terrific! We can expect an all electric Mustang one day… that really looks like one not an SUV!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Lithium Mustang comes to mind though the following and in 50 years would devastating. This is why: California does not have a Recycling Center for Leaky Acids or other Chemicals Battery Packs, which POLLUTES our GROUND WATER

I love my used 2019 Bullitt with 5,000 miles and I saved major $$ over a new Mach. Amazing cars! The more I drive it the more I love it!
Great car!
As a gt350 owner I'm jealous of those wheels and color.
The wheels are killer!
I to a gt350 owner I have a Avalanche gray car which looks very similar to fighter jet gray I love the rims on the Mach 1
Everyone who doesn’t own a GT350 is jealous of the Voodoo engine. I’ve always been sort of ambivalent about Mustangs until GT350 came into existence. That car is SO badass! I wish I had one in my garage.
@@ghostwrench2292 I'd absolutely own the Mach 1. One of my favorite cars I've driven this year.
Your sound bite engine sounds in some of your accelerations are from the auto trans aren’t they? I can hear the difference….
100% correct… why they did this makes zero sense because the Mach 1 sounds great in “Track”
Is anyone else having BAD inside shoulder wear on the front tires with the factory spec street toe alignment? I didnt even get 5000 kms on these cup2's... local dealership says this is NORMAL and i should plan to buy new tires every 3000 kms if im going to daily drive it...

was that a sound clip from a 10speed?
Another great video 👍
Appreciate it. My favorite one yet.

Excellent review
I thought about one of these, but the local dealers were marking them up so high (and not budging), that I found a lightly used 19 GT350 R instead for less. I think it’s great that Ford used so much of the 350 for the Mach 1 to make it the best manual transmission Mustang available now.
The Tremec is super enjoyable to shift. It's a wonderful transmission. One of my favorites for a high powered car.
I purchased a brand new 350R in 2019 for $64k. crazy how things have changed since
@@jaasun71I just picked up a new loaded Mach 1 for $66k. I often think about comments like yours and if I should feel cheated or ripped off. Those thoughts go away when I drive it though, it feels like so much more than a regular GT handling wise and it turns heads constantly.. also sounds great. Hopefully depreciation doesn’t murder us Mach 1 owners.. (assuming I don’t keep it)
@@austinjones8701 I just did the same. sold the 350R during covid. mach 1 does have a nicer interior with the leather Recaros and the new dash.
@@jaasun71 yup. On my gt I wanted the dash, trans, wheels and exhaust. The Mach 1 came with everything I’ve ever wanted from a mustang. I strongly considered a gt350r, the only thing that stopped me was motor replacement is north of $20k+. I feel much better with my 5.0 and extended warranty. I ride sport bikes so could care less about my car having more power, just want something fun to drive with good sound.
Excellent review!
Ridiculous comments about the turn signal stalk. It works and feels fine.
My '79 Fiesta S had an awesome turn signal stalk! It was made in Germany. It would go 90 all day long...on 12" wheels.
I don't know why but it was awesome when you poured one out....Literal LOL. Subscription earned!
On the scales at my local track Mach 1 auto's are around 3920-3950 and 6 speed car are 3840-3870. There's about a 70lb difference between the auto and manual.
I need this car!!

Thanks for the review. I have the 10 speed automatic in Velocity Blue. I was disappointed that Ford did not offer the leather with the accent seats. They only offered the cloth standard or cloth Recaro. No leather. if you, or any the viewers, have a part number I would love to up grade to the leather seats with the accent line on the top part of the seat. Thanks. 😎

Personally I believe that a GT with the performance package, and maybe an altered suspension (slightly altered that is), with a pretty confident and experienced driver can do just as well even without the extra 20 horsepower than a novice. I don't know if that makes the mack one (aside from the external differences) worth an extra $15000.
You said it yourself. YOU DON'T KNOW. Let me help. MUCH better manual trans, Better aero, more power, much better cooling, much better wheels and tires, and much better appearance both in the front end and rear end with a different lower-front-end, different splitters, spoilers, exhaust, it's price includes the mag ride, and on top of that it's not just a regular GT, it a legendary "Mach 1." I optioned up a regular GT premium and it was $55k, and I optioned up the Mach 1 similarly and it was $61k. People have to look at the details of what's included, and the specific options, instead of simply saying why is it $15k more.
@@kevinbreese5739 . I get it. but bin parts are bin parts. Now if they're installed at production or at the dealer, the only thing you really get is a VIN number that supports the fact that you have what you have. But you're going to pay a price for that. And that's what I wrestle with.
The thing is a loaded GT is 53k. A well-optioned mach 1 is 58-59k. I don't know about you, but to me that's really not a huge difference for a better looking car with a better transmission and such heritage.
I have a 2022 mach 1 10 speed auto and i love it .has everything fighter jet gray recaro leather elight package magniride digital dash. Brembos breaks.
it is a shame that a muscle car cost so much these day. I do not think a Mach 1 should cost more than two base model GT. I would rather buy 2 base model GT. Drive one and store the other. The drive experience is not $30K difference. IMO
Sure hope these kinds of cars are around when im able to get one. 22 in college, still got a lot of work to do
Save up and become an entrepreneur!
For that money, you can still buy a low mileage GT350 and have enough left over to buy a warranty if you wanted it. I like the Mach 1, (the Mach E is NOT a Mustang by any stretch of the imagination), but the price point is crazy. You paid the higher price for the 350 because it was actually a special car. This isn't really. It's a parts bin car made from the outgoing GT PP2, the 350, and parts of the almost unobtainable GT500 slapped on a Mustang GT with some nice stickers. I do want the wheels though. Wonder if they fit on a 17 GT350? :)
You're paying for the Tremec basically... If you are buying an automatic then might as well just get a GT Premium
GT350 is just sooo unreliable though, that’s why the Mach-1 is so appealing. I have a Shelby and will likely trade for a mach1 because the Shelby is in the shop every other week with something broken unfortunately
I'm buying one because soon you won't be able to. It feels like today is the last chance to get an ICE vehicle like this and I don't want to miss it.
Totally agree. I own an identical one and I love it over my 20 GT350R and 20 GT500. Great car.
This is a car I've been thinking about since I drove it!
Jim can you tell me why you like it more than your GT350R? I’m shopping both and can’t decide! I love Shelby’s but I know the voodoo has issues but it’s also unique and might hold its value for that and the Shelby name. But I also really like the Mach 1
I love manual transmissions and would feel more confident driving the mustang with the tremec 3160 over the MT-82
Cool car ! I think that rev-matching and no-lifting would be a blast. One small question.. Camaro ZL1?
ZL1 is a great car. Just less practical, but technically it's more accomplished. I like the interior less and the trunk is useless. I personally prefer the design of this too, but honestly, for me they are both great choices.
Or the ss 1LE would be a little closer in competition

Honestly the 10 Speed is what I ended up going with on my PP2 premium. Hated the MT82 and that 10 speed really is the best automatic transmission on the market currently. Drive both and see what you like!

For racing the automatic is better than the manual in every way. Gone are the days where a manual transmission can beat a good auto, even in the hands of the most skilled driver.
The manual is purely for driver engagement. And man, it's excellent in this car.

58k$ and some change. My window sticker was 63,495$ I dont think it's over priced for what I got. I'm extremely happy with it. I'm 29, I bought it when I was 28, and it's my first ever car that I ordered from the factory. I did get the 10 speed auto, because I have knee issues after completely tearing my ACL in half. I still drive a manual from time to time, but since I plan on keeping this car for the rest of my life, I figured the automatic would be better since I know I need knee replacement surgery. I'm just holding off on it, so that I might only need 1 knee replacement surgery in my lifetime.

The problem is most people born after a certain time, don't know how to drive manuals.. It works out perfect for the people who want and love driving manual's because they end up being cheaper than the auto's.. I bought my 2017 Performance Pack GT with only 8,909 miles on her and I love this car.. I'm on a staggered set up I have the strut tower and the beef'ed up sway bar, but the best thing I like about my GT is the 373's. The only thing they should have done was go widder on the wheels and tires.. These cars make to much power for 255's and 275's tire's.. You need at least 305's on the back these cars and 285's to 295's up front for better handling.. I am planning on doing a new set of GT350 wheels and tires on my GT..
You put automatic sound in your video why
You need to take a closer look at the Red 1969 Mach 1 in your video. Looks like my first new car. (1969 Red with gold side strips Mach I. 351 Windsor 4V with a fixed and closed scoop that I open after purchasing a under hood vacuum ram air). So that's a fixed scoop. Not a shaker that poked through the hood and was on most CJs. By the way. The plastic you pointed out on the door I believe was a speaker. Regarding new interior. I think when Ford redesigns the Mustang from the S550 to the S650. The interior will be included in that redesign. Regarding the turn signal stalk. Really? Even with your few complaints. I enjoyed your test drive. Regarding EV. Stellantis announced Dodge will be dropping their big Hemis of which I own and drive in a 2018 Chrysler 300C 5.7 Hemi, to hybrid and EV Chargers, Challengers and possibly a new estimated 1300 horsepower Cuda that will have an MSRP around $130,000. I'm keeping my Chrysler with a few bolt on mods and waiting to see what the S650 Mustang GT becomes. With the current administration. I feel that the EV push will begin being felt by the end of 2024. I Know I've been long winded, but I read a car magazine article which I'll not name. Their Hellcat Charger test car when driven extremely hard can empty it's gas tank in 11-Minutes. Wow. A statement for the need of EVs.
You’re right about the cheap interiors on all the Mustangs (except the Mach E) even the higher priced models like this one. Customer expectations are very low though but still I’m disappointed because Ford is capable of doing it right! I guess to make upscale luxury interiors on these cars would draw negativity due to higher pricing. Sadly we’ll never see a beautiful interior without the hard plastic in a real Mustang!
The Mach E is built in Mexico. The GT has an esepcially nice interior. Ford could do better, but unfortunatley they love to cost cut on areas that are very visible.

That engine is loooong gone. This Mach 1 is a great formula. I'd own this if I had the space. It's a riot to drive!
I do remember rumors that the 302 block was the same as the 351 block that the difference was the 351 was just milled out to a wider spec but that’s gotta be as much a rumor as I am serious yes the coyote is a different engine yes there’s so much more to the differences than simply the block oh and yes guess what I’m dreaming that a manufacturer that is set up simply for income would burn money making it as accurate to the original design as possible to the point of snob
Yeah, but this car would annihilate an old 351 Mach One at the strip and on the road course.
@@michaeljordan6008 sadly your right if referring to a stock show room mach 1 but who bought a muscle car and said "oh let me keep my muscle car stock it's enough" I can't find any names and I know quite a number of people who had a muscle car or still do everyone of them wrenched on the car and the easily push 1000hp some of em
What the Bullit should have been... shame I can't drive them, the ergonomics for *my body* is just off, like the peddles are too high off the floor if that makes sense..
Coyote engine with a flat plane crank, I thought the flat plane crank was in the 5.2 L.
Coyote has cross plane. Departed 5.2 Voodo is flat plane.
It's so underrated
Solid review. I had a '19 Bullitt and, having never owned a Mach 1 in my long Mustang career, would've preferred it over the Bullitt. It's the ultimate of the S550 gen.
Why'd you get rid of the Bullitt?
@@JimS870 I too had a 19 Bullitt and sold it with 900 mile .I also have an 18 10 Performance pack which i kept ..the bullitt was a dissapointment in performance due to the gear ratios in the MT-82 D4 it just cant hold a candle to the A10!!!!
Crazy how expensive cars have gotten these days. Especially Mustangs. ☹
Tell me about it
I've been a Mustang fan for years I remember roaming the Lots at my local Ford dealership back in the late 80s early 90s you could get a fully loaded Mustang GT five speed car for around $15,000. Car prices are absolutely insane these days! Along with everything else.
@@davedave2882 I hear ya. I remember looking forward to buying one someday but inflation has outpaced my income unfortunately. I was closer to being able to buy one 20 years ago than today. 🤷♂️
@@Icebergslim333 man I understand completely. After paying outrageous amounts of Child Support on 2kids for about 15 years and living in a small apartment. I work all the overtime I could. Finally after all those years of working all that overtime once my child support was done about five months later I was able to purchase a nice home and then kept my eyes open for a year on a dream car. I had to go out of state but I found a mint 13,000 mile Shelby GT500 Track Pack car. White with the dark blue racing stripes. 662 hp completely stock. Make sure you shop around. And in my opinion these new s550s are not worth the money people are asking for them.
@@davedave2882 Yup! I had a Fox body back in the day.
This or the GT 350 ?
Love it.
Mustang drivers don't need turn signals. My mom does but I don't
Those tires will be done in 4,000, they only exist for magazine times against the 1LE.
Really depends on how you drive. I usually drive with DOT legal track tires (such as RS4, SUR4G etc) on my Supra and other cars and can go longer than that with a few track days. Someone buying this car knows what they are getting into. As I said in the video, this will not be a cheap car to operate if you drive it hard.
Good review, I just think you are more worried about the interior than the actual performance the car gives
