As a Stingray devotée, I thank you a thousand times for not doing another Les Paul Junior.
Long live Thumpin' Thursday!
Agree totally - serious bassists must have one. Mine is a '76. Totally 100% original sunburst. What an acoustic sound alone! Decades of molecules being vibrated!
Mark don't let those big strings hurt your delicate little fingers. ;-)
Thank you so much for doing a bass on my birthday Mark! This bassist really appreciates it!
The ex-Fender guys were Forest White, who pretty much managed the whole operation other than sales, and Tom Walker, a sales exec. Forest designed the iconic 3+1 headstock.
I have 3 Music Man Basses but didn’t know that. Thanks 🙏 🎉⭐️🇦🇺
1. Another one Rides the Bus---Weird Al Yankovic.
Roderick MacLeod Yes! I haven't listened to that in a long time!
Very well done. I agree, every bass player needs a Stingray. Beautiful bass.
Well played roderick, well played.
Roderick MacLeod so funny.....😂😂 just rewatched this.....now I'm laughing.....😂😂
Thanks for having a late nite show that’s actually worth watching!🎸 Dig you guys, EVERY NITE!
Hell yeah!! Thumpin' Thursday!!!
#ALLCAPSFORCARLOS
mdotn9 i think carlos is dead
1. Queen-Another One Bites the Dust
2. Alice Merton-No Roots
3. Level 42-Something About You
Ian Pavelko Something About You
I can’t believe he broke out the Level 42
He unleveled 42!
Hell yeah, Level 42!
I have to say this is the first bass review I have watch from start to finish. That was pretty fucking awesome!
Love Thumpin Thursday - thank you. Another great piece of work from Leo Fender. And really nice job with the demo, especially the Mark King at the end.
Very happy for the return of bass especially with on of my fave lookin and sounding basses
Very nice. Guitar of the day makes my day. And this week we got a Weird-ass Wednesday AND a Thumpin' Thursday. Very nice.
First off, I'm a drummer, so why am I even here? Well, because I love the history of the instruments you present. Second, as a drummer, bass players are my best friends. (Sad right?) If I weren't a drummer, I'd play bass, so I'm a thumpin' Thursday fan. Lastly, as a non bass player you take on Mark King for your slap sample? That's man sized right there! Good job!
Glad to see "Thumpin' Thursday" back.....Sure it forces you to have to learn a bunch of new songs, using multiple techniques on an instrument you're not as confident with that's broadcast and played world wide but deal with it. You don't sound that bad and I like learning about them along with the other half dozen bass nerds like me who watch daily....Thanks.
THUMPING THURSDAY IS BACK AND WITH MY FAV BASS OF ALL TIME! FAV COLOUR AND EVERYTHING
a 76/77/78 Music Man Stingray gotta go into my collection some day!
Update: I just got my 78' shipped to me a hour ago. Can't wait to see how it plays!
Awesome instrument and great playing, Mark.
Thumpin' Thursday is back! Yessss
YES !!!!!! A bass ! Thank you thank you ! Long Live Thumpin Thursday ! #LLTT
Very informative also. Nicely done !
Episode 477. Viva Thumpin Thursday! Even some Level 42!!
that was some competent popping, a nice line crisply played - a pleasure to hear
I'm a big Thumpin' Thursday fan and what a great example to revive it with!
You achieved level 43 on this one, Mark.
Mark....you cease to amaze me.....awesome job on a very cool guitar.....you play so many different styles......one day I'm going to go deeper in debt and buy myself a guitar......I'll drive over there so you can sell me one.....👍👍
Not something I've been screaming for, but I'm sure the bass guys are sure happy to have thumpin' Thursday back.
Mark. You had groove! Good job. The tone on that bass is sweet.
It’s about time we get something as rad as this
Holy Sheetz! Thumping Thursday!
I am actually shook. Mark can play that funky music.
Far Out Vid Jen ! Gorgeous whoops giggles and BYEEEESSS xxxx
Holy heck that sounds amazing... And great job on the slaps mark, I had no idea...
Yes! Love those things! If you find one, please do a G&L L-1000!
Thank God!!!! It's been too long. Sweeeeeeeet bass!
Happy Birthday Heather .., I have no idea who you are 😂.. but hey Mark this same bass you have here .. my bass player had one. Thanks.. ✌️ byeeeeee
OUTSTANDING!!!
I had a stingray bass at one time best bass ever in my opinion. I just bought a newer stingray guitar, and a cutlass, and all I can say is Music Man's rule, and considering the quality, I believe an exceptional value. I love their necks they suit me perfectly.
I just got a StingRay for my birthday back in January and it sounds freaking awesome. As for the songs, I only recognized Another One Bites the Dust so what were the other songs he played?
Bass 101++ Always learning via you guys! :)
I have two Stingrays and an original SUB Bass. One of the Stingrays is an "Old Smoothie", which is a recreation of the prototype Stingray Sterling Ball owns. I love Music Man & Ernie Ball.
Gave the same bass in a Sabre Bass, love it.
Great sound!
a little slap and pop never hurt anyone , well done Mark , its been a long time since you cranked out some bass and you handled it very well , I had a Peavy a long time ago but my fingers are just too short for bass , they sound so cool tho.
thanx for the Queen Mark. you da man.
Forrest White and Tom Walker started what eventually became Music Man.
Jesus christ.... been waiting a whole damn year for this moment😂😂😂
Thumping Thursday! Thank you Lord Jesus!
Thumpin' thursday is the best day of the week
Lonnie Turner ---another early user of this bass. He played it on Fly like An Eagle and Book Of Dreams albums. Sweet!!
Yep he was, i read an interview of steve miller that said lonnie had what was basically a prototype from the early 70's.
I'm a guitarist first and foremost, but I do like a good bass.
A guy I jam with has one of these bad boys. He's older than me, says he's had it for 25 years. He's an incredible bassist, does lots of slap and pop.
Props to Mark for not just playing bass like a guitar player
Marc, slap sound talent obviously!
Nice job on the slappen!! You spanked that bass pretty well!!!
suena impresionante! saludos desde Panama!
I want to climb that orange ladder... Fun video, Thanks!
Is there no end to either your talent or artistic embarrassment Mark? Another great GOTD! Thank you.
Mark and Jenn..its my son Ringo, george john paul ( yes we are stones fans;) birthday tomorrow..the 17th. He is turning 5 he loves Ninjago and yellow subs....his dad those funky old guitars you guys sell!Would love a shout out!
Cheers from Holland
Alex Kingaby
Not bad Mark! Love that slap!
Dude, I love the sound of bass slapping. It just sounds cool as hell.
Scott Willi -🎶♠ I know you can dig Larry Graham, yes?
Barry McKinley I just had to look him up, but I LOVE dat shit! Percussive and big sounding. Awesome!
2nd song is called “no roots” by alice merton!
Reilly McCullough i thought that's what it was but I didn't think Mark was aware of modern alt bops lol
HEY CARLOS, THUMPIN' THURSDAY IS BACK! #ALLCAPSFORCARLOS
It's not just the lack of basses that has pissed Carlos off. It's Marks shitty attitude towards bass players and comments about having to play them. I would bet $$$$ that you will not see him on this site again. After all , he has no problems commenting on other you tube sites
I know who he is but what happened?
Fender jazz 62 IMO, Mark's shitty attitude about everything, including just having to DO these videos in the first place, has been very off-putting for me over the past year and a half. He used to enjoy it, but now it seems like it's become a difficult CHORE for him to muster up the willingness to spend 10 minutes at the end of the day, playing some of the most valuable, revered and, dare I say it...?...yes, CHERISHED guitars and basses ever made!! His enthusiasm was so underwhelming at one point last year, that I had to unsubscribe for a few weeks. Then, during the 3 weeks leading up to their Christmas vacation, he and Jen started becoming so stressed about getting to play some of the COOLEST INSTRUMENTS EVER MADE, I thought he was going to need a shrink to prescribe some Xanax, or something. He was So depressed about HAVING to do these videos that I thought surely he and Jen would come back at the start of the New Year with renewed enthusiasm, and they did...for about three minutes! Now it's only a few days before the end of March, and on Fridays they're already disappointed that it's not yet "Straturday" so they can be finished for the week! And Straturday itself has become so bleak-sounding from them that I'm beginning to skip the Saturday videos unless the thumbnail shows something extremely cool. Mark, if you're reading these comments, PLEASE show, if not some enthusiasm, at LEAST a little less disenchantment with this part of your job? Try to remember what it was like when you first started doing these videos, because that's what it's STILL like for those of us who DON'T have access to ANY of even the comparatively MEDIOCRE instruments you get to play on a daily basis. You're taking the fun out of it for at least some of us.
Good stuff, bro
LMAO!! “take that Flea!” That cracked me up! 😭😂👍🏼
Thanks for the Bass .... Missing TT .....
Hopefully, thumpin' Thursday stays around for awhile. I'd love to see a fender bass IV.
I can dig it.
Finally!
Y’all got to whip out a Thunderbird next Thumpin’ Thursday!
So effin groovy!
I thought the MM was developed specifically for the late great Louis Johnson, bassist for The Brothers Johnson and many sessions. He was Quincy Jones go to bassist and played on many MJJ sessions
That is what is I had been told years ago. Wish I had one. I always used a Jazz Bass for slapping, which sounded good. But nothing slaps like a sting ray. Course I only play upright now.....
Mark if you or Jen doesn’t wish me luck on finals by Wednesday I might fail. If I fail I will be applying for a job at the store. Trust me you don’t want that.
Dave Butcher nobody cares loser
Curtis John Cole B=====D~~~
Sandor Clegane-- U dumb fuck..Dave butcher is not the looser here, That would be you, you said it and he did acknowledge your comment..so you are the looser..right
Sandor Clegane-- I found you, yeah ur 1 of those fairy types.. you gutless wonder u can't even use your own name... fuckin dork.. stay in your fantasy world
Now that's pretty darn funny!
Nice!
Love ❤️ you 😘guys!😁
Damn Mark, with the guitar lick in the background and everything 1:56
Thumping Thursday!!!!!! Alright. I good one too.
I'm not a bass player, but I'd own a stingray. They are badass
Our bass player had one, if you step back from your monitor when Mark holds it up, I swear it's a weird, wooden toilet seat. One more thing.
IF CARLOS DO NOT POST UP SOON .... I'LL PLAY THE BLUES FOR YOU ...
AND YOU DON'T WANT THAT !
Leo Fender collaborated w/ Louis Johnson on the Stingray. Johnson was known for his thumping bass playing back in the ‘’70’s w/ the Brothers Johnson & session work w/ Quincy Jones. I’m surprised that they never considered a signature model for Johnson.
Holy fuck balls that’s my dream bass. I have newer versions just need an original now. Soooo cool. Let’s get our Bernard Edwards on! Wahoo Thumpin Thursday.
Happy Thumpin Thursday!
This is a fender strat
Isn't Norm a Bass player? Why not let the boss do thumping Thursdays?
OMG! Mark slappin! Where's Carlos? we need him!!
I thought you were gonna do good times at first and i got excited, until you started playing another one bites the dust
Yay! Thumping Thursday!
For a guitarist you’re not half bad at playing bass. If you ever want a decent gig, you could change to bass. 😉
Try slapping a little closer to the fretboard, though. It makes it sound a bit beefier.
R E F R E S H I N G
That's a good way to thump on Thursday! #BassistsMightBeMusiciansToo
Nice
Thanks for the birthday wishes I WILL let ALEXIA know and Thanks for a BASS AGAIN Today , You Guys Rock & Roll!

Hey a bass.
#ALLCAPSFORCARLOS
Mark learned all his funkinuss from watching Yousican ©
Mark, I was hoping for Barney Miller theme music...that bass is perfect for that sound.
I see that Gibson Barney Kessel lurking there in the background. Come on, Mark and Jen, let's take it for a spin, please.
OMG it's gonna snow blue! #ALLCAPSFORCARLOS
Mark King would be so proud.
Nice blues brothers reference by mark
Good sounding bass, and secretly Mark is becoming a bass player
