no,he is not,he is revered, loved, worshiped and very well known and a massive talent . he is in the top 10% of the best guitar players on the planet and anyone who plays knows him.
Definitely one of the most creative guitarist of all time. Their first songs/albums were so "out of the box" compared to what others were doing back then. Priest paved the way for the metal we hear today. My all time favorite band!!!!
@Jeff Mitchell It definitely shows on Glenn's playing, at least on the 70s albums, maybe early 80s. Rory was a great player but I think Glenn surpassed him.
He and KK just sound like real down to earth folks. They are pretty funny too. They dont seem to have any conceit or pretentiousness about them. Always my fave Metal musicians.
If the camera was a tenth the value of Glenn's gear, we might have been able to watch this without getting cancer... still awesome audio tho, ALL HAIL GLENN TIPTON \m/
dude... dude . . .glen and kk are the shit . . . . i saw priest in like 1982 and the minute i heard those two guitars hit that first chord my jaw dropped to the floor and from that minute on i knew i had to learn to play . so i sold all my hockey equipment ( execpt my skates and sticks ) and bought my first axe . . .you guys rock my world bro . . .
Gosh, i feel so lucky (and old) that i saw priest back in 79 as an opener for AC/DC. I stood right infront of the stage, infront of Glenn & his guitar work impressed me from the very first minute, Back then, he was still playing a SG & the black Strat.. It was mindblowing and up to today the loudest i`ve ever heared.
I could watch his majesty GT doodle around all day. It feels like he's pouring molten metal in my ears, just by himself. He is the essence of metal, an artist. Obey or go away 🤘😀🤘
He has a super smooth picked legato . It's great seeing this, Glenn has expert quardination with all 4 fingers and is playing some tough positions really smoothly, and making it look easy in Touch of Evil
That's in Glens house... I've been there... I helped record Nostredamous and had exclusive backstage passes to tour... I sorted Scott out some smoke and even went for a meal with the whole band and his manager... Beat that!
One of my favorite guitarist ever..I love Priest..I saw them many times starting in 1981 in Buffalo with Iron Maiden and Whitesnake, then a few more times in Toronto...my favorite show was on my 21st birthday 1982 at Maple Leaf Gardens in T.O. :)
Glenn Tipton is my guitar hero of the 80ties. His qualities lies in the depth of his sound, versatility, feel and technique. Also as a songwriter in combination with Halford.
I love how he holds that pinky finger out, I that was his trade mark ! Saw priest 3-4 times back in the day , he really had a great sound without making it look that hard . Truly a great guitarist of all time .
Glen is on the level of Satriani, Vai, Van Halen, Clapton, Page, Hendrix, but will never get the recognition as a guitar hero because he's in a "Metal" band. Malmsteen, and any of the guys in Priest or Maiden can not only shred hell, but play rock and blues on the level of Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn or Hendrix. They all have killer feel, tone and vibrato. Angus Young is another example, probably the best electric guitar blues soloist ever, but will never be recognized as such.
Earl Johannsson yeh it would be good to see a compilation of guitar gods with more than the usual boring Hendrix, beck,Clapton, page....dont get wrong these guys rock but its always the same old same old..

I totally agree! I've been a Tipton fan forever. He's a brilliant, innovative, and very melodic players. So is KK. But Glen does not get the recognition he deserves for modernizing and refining metal guitar. He's a very soulful player as well.
Liquid gold tone. I’ve not seen someone with a more economical right hand than Glenn. Even when he is picking he barely moves his hand. Tone and technique. Beyond awesome.
@MikeLamb24 Their latest tour was great. Granted he may not be as schooled as a lot of the newer guitarists out there, but few can say they started a musical revolution. The fact that Glenn moved away from Crate and went to a Mesa rack system helped his live sound tremendously. Perfect volume settings, effects, the whole production that they lacked live for years was finally there.

5th track from Glenn Tipton's solo album, Edge of the World (recorded 1997, released 2006) which he did with John Entwistle and Cozy Powell.
I use a Crate Palomino for small gigs and love it! Crate does make some good stuff. They also do make some entry level stuff. Glen likes his Blue Voodoo like I like my Powerblock at home.
Judas Priest, metal God's. ..Glen & Tipton my favotite dual guitar combination ...they been rocking this world for over 40 yrs, Solid Bass player and we can't leave out the drum work on painkiller. Also, Rob Halford can still belt it out. Judah Priest are living legends Period.
If all the Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal Players in the 80's era, Glenn Tipton always was of my favorites. His style, feel, and chops make his solos very memorable and great concepts to the songs of Priest. Sure their was Lynch, Campbell, Lee, Malmsteen, Hammett, any many more who stood out more, but in my mind lacked the feel and practicality to command a legendary Metal Band.
Seen them in as headliner in 82-83 "Screaming for Vengence" Tour. I've been too hundreds of show's since then and nothing even close to as LOUD !!!! Possibly my all time favorite show. Erie County Field House Sept. 1982 ( found the stub) $8.75 general admission !
I agree. :) Ram it down is the best Glenns solo, but he have so many great solos (All guns blazing, Hell patrol, Painkiller, Hard as iron, I"m a rocker, Heavy metal, Electric eye, Beyond the realms of death, Reckless,....)
Tina S is lame. No originality or feeling there in her playing. Glenn Tipton, whether you like him or not has the greatest technique and his soloing approach is far more advanced than the vast majority of rock and jazz players. Most guitarists don't have the technique and trademark sound combined that Tipton has established. Starting with Ram It Down released in 1988, Tipton became far more technical, but didn't sacrifice an ounce of his trademark tonality and playing style. Yngwie Malmsteen, Tony MacAlpine, Eddie Van Halen, Tony Iommi, Randy Rhoads, and Stevie Ray Vaughan all owe their respects to the Master guitarist himself, Sir Glenn Raymond Tipton. All those guys were influenced by him over the years.
dime bag once sed that glenn tipton and kk downing had to be the best guitar duet ever, and i totaly agree with him, i meand dude they are both amasing and can fixx riffs and solos in perfect timing
Steve Vai is definitely NOT a robot lmAO. Just because he is as close to technically perfect as physically possible, doesn't mean he plays like a robot. Delivery is what determines if a guitarist plays like a robot, not technical ability.
@@bharp4390 Steve Vai gets completely smoked by Paul Gilbert and Tipton smokes all of them before he had parkinson's,he demolished Marty Friedman and Alex Skolnick at the same concert couple of times between 1990-1991
You just hit on something very significant. They do have lots of blues based songs with 3 or 4 cords but for the most part they tend to develop more complex structures that are far more creative.
Say all the nobody guitarists, how many tours have you sold out?albums? singles?because I don’t recognize your name from any guitar related material at all, maybe you need some tabs lmfao
Glenn Tipton is worthy of mention as one of the greatest guitarists who ever lived no matter what music genre. I breathe the air from his music.
Tipton's solos like Painkiller are frickin amazing. Tipton, Adrian Smith, Andy Larocque, Michael Schenker, David Gilmour are my favs etc
An almost perfect list of favorites!
I remember watching this over and over on their website 15 years ago, before RUclips even existed. Crazy
I remember that where they had sound clips of the demolition album on the website when I was a kid.
The best Heavy Metal guitarist ever!
Pablo3b1919 best guitarist ever

Criminally underrated

its really cool to see how much all these metal guys love blues
Glen Tipton has to be the greatest heavy metal guitarist. He knows every scale known to mankind and incorporates them effortlessly in his solos.
Thankyou Mr.Tipton for all the great music Priest changed my life and made me the Metal player I am today.
Wow I was 24 years when this came out ..
and I now 39 ..
Il never forget Glenn Tipton
Glen was ahead of his time. He was a influence to my favorite guitarist Alex Skolnick. Cheers!
Total genius, living legend.
I love everything about your music forever your awesome 🤘♥️💯🎸
I just love this guy.
best metal guitarist of all time, hands down
I bought a Hamer Diablo because of its similarity to Glens Hamer in 1993, its still killing it in 2016-Love this guitar-Glen Tipton RULES!!!!

He's my guy ..so much great music thanks Glenn
I wish Hamer would make his signature guitars readily available to the public. That distended hourglass shaped ax is way cool!
There is actually people who can make you a copy. Just Google it. I'm thinking of getting one some time this year.

Touch of Evil solo is amazing. The best solo on that entire album and that is saying something.
BdaMonkey All Guns Blazing is first for me.
This solo is good no doubt, but I think “Painkiller's” is unmatched.
He has a super smooth picked legato .

I like how the sees guitars. He knows what he likes and needs and once he has it, it becomes his currently favoured guitar for 30 years or so.
