That moment when you put on a Glenn Tipton solo video on youtube and a black demonish awesome hot rod appears out of the nowhere in the middle of your bedroom.
It is SO AWESOME to read these comments and know that there are other guitarists and fans (like me, I’m both) who appreciate the talent and virtuosity of Glenn Tipton. I’ve been a fan since I first heard Unleashed In The East, right after it came out. The solo in Exciter on that album is killer and the feeling and emotion of the lead in Diamonds And Rust is amazing….which is what I admire about Glenn the most: he never sacrifices feeling for technique. Somehow he can do what so many others can’t…play blindingly fast licks and still be able to emote, have feeling. It’s also a treat to have been able to watch his progression as a soloist and songwriter, he improved with every record. I was blessed and had the chance to meet him and actually talk to him once. It was on the Demolition tour. He is the definition of an English gentlemen, so polite…heck he even holds his guitar pick like he drinks his tea: with his pinky finger extended! Lol There are two lead guitarists that, had I never heard them, I seriously doubt I would’ve picked up the instrument. These two have also been a constant source of inspiration for me over the years…the two guitarists are Edward Van Halen and Glenn Tipton. In my opinion they are the best of the best, legends. Ed did for electric guitar in general what Glenn did for heavy metal guitar. Both are giants and although Ed wins the popularity and innovation contest, BOTH have a unique and powerful command of the instrument. Glenn will always be the best heavy metal guitarist EVER.
@@sabbathbeast1322 alright then, youve made it apparent you’ve got too much tribalism in your mindset to be reasonable or decent. not participating in your nonsense.
If this was recorded in 2008/2009 he was 60+ years old (and apparently suffering from the onset of Parkinson's), but it might be recordings from the late 80's and/or early 90's. I don't know.
The guy takes a simple scale, a basic playing style and whit that make a completli new and personal style... Yngwie is great, but he use a rich scale, with techniques useds by the gratest classical music monsters of all time... sorry, but i think thats not so revolutionary.... Tipton is father of his own style, Yngwie is a good player of a style of anothers...
Glen has more emotion in his playing. He doesn't bore you to death shredding mindlessly over and over again. I prefer a player like Glen who makes you feel what the song is saying. That's really what music is about. Glen is a true musician, we will miss his performances, but we have many recordings to enjoy till it's our time to "retire".
I personally wouldn't call Tipton as ''simple'' or ''easy'' The dude uses a lot of hard sweeps through all his playing style, it is true he uses simples scales though. As different as Yngwie uses.
Not simple and not easy... Just use a clasical methods to do brutal and very understanding music. For me All guns blazing have one of the most dificult solos to play but even for compose. Just few like Chuck from Death and Mohammed from Necrophagist can give me sething of that kind.
@@CerealKiller5150 the same i think. Glenn played more with geners, huge evolutiin and changes. And Yngwie is everytime Yngwie, more mature but the same formula.
@@billhinsperger8120 exactly for example the solo from Electric Eye is so hard to play i heard a lot of covers of this song and no one can play a solo like him.
He is endorsed by Engl and uses their stuff on tour and in his recordings. There are pictures on his website of his '08 and '09 touring rigs. I would imagine that he used one of those very same rigs for these recordings.
K K always had the wammy bar solos. I had a Priest song book that couldn't figure out the tabs for KK's solo on Victim of Changes. It said " whammy bar freakout with undescribable effects" just awesome guitar playing.
I might assume a lot of people watching and listening to this video could be a few years younger than myself. I urge you to give a serious listen to the guitar tones on Stained Class and Killing Machine [Hellbent For Leather]. Those sounds were so fat - so ahead of the curve for the late 70s. Pay close attention to the articulations - voicing means everything! Metal needed that sound then - it needs it now.
Hey. RUclips ruined your video quality. Is there any chance you still have this video in HD? I need this licks for one project and this video is all I could find.
does anyone know the gear he used to record this? he is known for using EMG's, so i would guess that these recordings were no exception. but as far as an amp? he likes to use a ton of different amps. I really dig this tone, can anyone help?
Glenn Tipton: Inventor of Modern Heavy Metal.
God his tone is so beautiful
Glenn has always been a killer lead player

I love that Priest lead sound. Emgs, Kahler, Chorus, Reverb and shit loads of gain.

Glenn Tipton is the True Metal God 🎸🤘🏻 and master of all guitar players
And KK Downing
They couldn't have possibly chosen a better guitarist. Let's hope there will be Brütal Legend 2 (also with some Iron Maiden stuff in it).
Just one thing, Lemmy isn't gonna be there :(
I didn't know it was Glenn Tipton, but of course he is a reason why the licks sound so awesome :)
Seen Tipton live, he's very fluent, also very patient within tones come to him, note holding examples.
I always wanted these as a ringtone. Glenn Tipton, I love you.
If this was recorded back in late '90s,it was when he was at his best...Baptizm of fire was insanely beautiful!
This was recorded somewhere around Nostradamus album.

Jack Black was looking for God to play the track, but then he heard about Tipton.
To think that Glenn probably already had Parkinson's disease when this was recorded... (the game was released in late 2009, he was diagnosed in 2008)
I bet he pour his soul out during that recording knowing that he may never play the guitar ever again. He's an inspiration.
METAL! \m/

im wrighting some it will be done soon
How do you even get that kind of sound? I need to know
Modded Marshall, Mxr distortion +, hall reverb, delay, and slight chorus, boosted high mids in 6 band eq can easily get this tone

Sounds closest to their Ram It Down album's sound. Wonder if I can find what they used for that record. Most likely Marshall amps if I'm guessing.
