My dog was 17 and I just had to put him down because of kidney failure. He wasn’t eating anything even his favorite foods and he couldn’t walk and his breath smelled like death. He was shaking and liquid would come out of his mouth. I’m not ok and I don’t think I ever will be ok. I can’t believe this is real. I can’t live without him. Life sucks
Mine was 14. Same exact symptoms. She died in my arms. I don't feel ok and I don't know what to do now. But she is not in pain anymore. That matters to me more than my broken heart.
Mine 14. She got parvo, and her kidneys weren't strong enough. The new vaccine cured it, but her kidneys got messed. Her blood contaminated, and she started twitching. Was the most painful thing I've gone through my entire life.

My chihuahua Chico died July 30, 2023 from kidney failure. It was a hurt I never felt before. Chico had a seizure then died later that morning. I miss him sooooooo much. The grief is unbearable. Trying to find peace....Forever is a long time, thats how long i will love him. RIP MY LIL BOY....UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN ❤

I’m dealing with kidney failure as well as canine cognitive disease and my dog is 17 years old. Honestly I feel she is experiencing a rapid decline in quality of life. Drastic measures and vet visits and care to simply extend her life a few months is not that appealing. If she were a younger animal it would be a different situation. She’s my best friend and the thought of loosing her is devastating. That said, simply prolonging her pain and misery for my own selfish wants is something I think I will decline. I guess in an ideal world we would all (pets and people) pass peacefully and easily, but that’s not normally the case. I feel for your loss and appreciate this video to help others in similar situations. It’s not east watching an animal suffer.
Wow 17 years old. That’s truly incredible! Its not going to be easy but you’d never want to look back and regret keeping her longer than you should have. My vet didn’t tell me that I needed to put Teddy down, I as the owner had to make that tough decision. I knew her quality of life was just deteriorating. My dog passed today after 4 weeks of battling with acute kidney failure. I'm still asking myself how and why. She's only 5 yrs old. So hard to see her suffer.. So hard to see her go.
I am so sorry. I lost my Yorkie Daffodil in 2020 as well. (6 days after my MOM passed). I know just how hard this is. It's 3 years later and it still is really tough. I often feel her brushing up against me or trying to get on th ebed.

My dog had an Internist. She was put on the meds. She would go for her blood and protein creatine urine test every 2 to 3 months. She was 28 days of having kidney disease for almost 7 years. She passed away at home last week. I will pray for your dog.
Thank you for posting this video.I just lost my beloved dog from kidney failure as well.We had to put him to sleep because he was declining so fast.As much as I want to keep him longer by giving him IV fluids and forced feeding, my family decided not to prolong his agony.We had to put him to sleep at home.Our vet came to our home and he just slept in my arms.He did not even feel the shot. Thank you for sharing this, my dog has had CKD since he was 8 years old. He's 12 now, and recently he was not his usual self and we went to the vet to find out his CKD levels were not good, the very next day he had a seizure and I was alone, I 100% feel you it was the scariest thing ever (i googled and found that they aren't in pain when they go through a seizure, which made me feel a tiny bit relieved). I'm so sorry for your loss! I can only imagine how you feel, and my dog is still struggling with it and fighting on. If anyone out there is watching this and reading this too, it's good to get an annual blood test to ensure their levels are in check, and also take supplements such as Renal by Candioli & Omega 3 & 6 to aid the kidneys, ensure their meals have enough moisture with high quality nutrients (not just dried kibbles, their not good enough). I work in the pet care line and I cannot emphasise how supplements are so important because dogs especially their immune system works very differently and they lick all kinds of bacteria. A lot of the issues start in the gut. Dogs don't have a long lifespan, they really teach us a lesson before they go, and I know for a fact he had the best life with you, we can see how you care for him in just one video! My little Chihuahua passed this past Sunday around 6am, I adopted him in 2011 with 1 year old, in 2013 he was diagnosed with Kidney failure, such a beautiful boy we loved him so much our house looks so empty without him.

My sweet 9.5 yr old sharpei Allie is dying from kidney failure as I watch this. It’s heart breaking…she is at my feet wrapped in blankets trying to sleep. She has not gotten to point of seizures but is in stage 4. I know I have to make the decision this week. It sucks. My husband just lost his dad 4 days ago and its 4 days before Thanksgiving. Me and my wife is going through this now. Our boy is 17 1/2 yrs old he would of been 18 in October 8th. Tomorrow is the day me and my wife agree to put him to rest peaceful. Me and my wife been crying on and off over the last week. He’s been here with the both of us almost our hole marriage. We been married for almost 20 yrs. Hi, I'm in awe on how strong you are for telling your story, know that your baby love you and is happy crossing the rainbow bridge, Our chihuahua "kendra" who is our family's entire world and is 10 years old right now was diagnosed with kidney diseas back in 2020, it broke our hearts knowing we must be more strict/careful with her food from that on and her diet consists of only Royal Canin Renal dog food (Wet/Loaf Type) and some chiken, she is a very picky eater and without monitoring/forcing she would just ignore and leave, Four days ago she suddenly got very weak and we brought her to the vet for checkup, we got the meds and its been 4 days now and she's still very lethargic, I'm so depressed right now.

We had her cremated and she's got a beautiful spot on our home. I know she's runnning wherever she wants and eat whatever she wants now, and I know we will see eachother again someday. I'm right there right now with my dog soulmate going thru all you share (he has had end stage kidney failure for 5 months now - almost died when it got identified as the issue). Sorry for you lost .. my dog just recently passed so I completely understand how you feel … my big ole puppy 🐶 has been there thru the good and bad .. think and thin.. 13 years .. was there threw a my divorce .. me starting my first business .. late nights working .. new relationships … a new child … a pandemic …opening a second business… every moment I was sick or down .. she was right there with me… it sad but the last three days I made as comfortable as possible … told her how much she will be missed and loved 100 times and was there for that last moment … I hope she knows I miss her…this is my first, only and last pet so i appreciate you sharing you experience…

You're video is so informative. I lost my baby, Sissy, on 6-30-21. She was drinking a lot of water her last two years. I knew something wasn't right but I didn't have the money to get her treated. I'm battling guilt right now. She had renal failure and she also was lethargic. And as I watch this, you are crying. I'm sorry you lost your baby. I'm broken and lost without sissy. I lost my bull lurcher to stage 3 kidney failure on 16 April 2021 we had to make the hard decision to say goodbye. Our dog was very old we think about 15 he was a stray and chose us as his parents. We had the pleasure of loving him for 8.5 years. He was the most beautiful dog ever. He was only diagnosed with kf 3 weeks before he passed but we are so pleased at least he got to old age. I am so pleased that Teddy lived to a good age too. “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened”. Run free Simba my beautiful gentle “big lad” xxxx

Thank you for sharing your baby's journey. I ambheart broken hearing your story because my own furbaby was recently diagnosed with stage 2 CKD and no one ever discusses how the progression of the disease will be. I guess they dont want to worry me but knowing in advance, although it does make me extremely sad, it also calms me because i feel like we can prepare for the worst now the best that we can. If i didn't know in advance and my baby started having seizure, i think i might have a panic attack while watching it. But now, that i am warned, i am hoping i won't. Hoping 🤞. Ps. My vet said it could also be hereditary in older dogs. My only prayer to God is to let her go peacefully in her sleep and to not make it so bad that i have to be the one to make the decision. That is so much harder on me.

I’m very sorry for your loss, I found your video after frantically looking for anything I could do to help my 12 year old Chihuahua. I took him to my vet after he was vomiting up almost every meal he ate and he was just not the same playful little dog. He had no energy and just wanted to sleep. He lost his appetite for his food all his favorite treats. His blood tests show Bun of 58.6 mmol/L and Creatinine of 926 mmol/L. Today is his first day in the hospital for aggressive Iv fluid treatment but I’m not sure he will pull through as he was eating very little before I brought him in. I’m praying that I can at least get a few more weeks or months with him before I too say goodbye. Thank you for being brave enough to share your painful experience. I don’t think I could do it without falling apart.

I'm so sorry for your loss and pain. We are that the same crossroad right now so I feel your pain. What started off as parasites then a urinary infection and then a infection on prostate an it seems that no matter what type of antibiotics we are giving him have worked in removing the mass on his prostate or the infection in his urinary tract. Now 2 months later his kidneys are failing. We have to drain his pee everyday and give him IV's and if it doesn't get better we have to make that hard decision. I was in tears watching your video. Beautiful tribute to your furry baby.
The key you mentioned towards the end on the video is "suffering". Today, I put down my old kitty of 15 years. (not pictured on my profile) She had hyperthyroidism which caused more than one chronic condition but in the end it was her chronic kidney disease that caused her poor health. We put her down today at our local vet and it is never easy doing the `right' thing. As much as I would have wanted to keep her at home, she was suffering from pain, and was refusing to eat. Vet and I tried several meds but she lost too much weight and after three days, she was beyond recovery. My kitty was not the first to live beyond 15 yrs nor the first to be put down due to suffe from disease. I know she is in a much better place and we are grateful for her lifetime of love.
I had to put my baby Harley to sleep on August 27, 2020 from kidney failure it was the most horrific day of my life and I will never ever recover until I meet with him when it’s my time to go in heaven! The Bible says according to your faith be at unto you and I believe with all of my heart he is waiting in heaven at the door for me! I cry every single day I miss him desperately! We put him to sleep in our bedroom on our bed where he always liked to sleep my husband and I were both right down at his face looking into his eyes petting him and talking to him and just before he fell asleep he licked both of our noses I am absolutely devastated my sweet sweet baby is not with me!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I feel your pain. My 13 yr old Border Collie died from CKD-chronic kidney disease just a few days ago. I wish I had her euthanized but she died on Sunday night and there was nothing left I could do for her. She suffered greatly and it was awful. My heart is broken like yours. She hadn't drank water for at least 2 days. She started making these small purring noises and then she began to get louder until she was crying out with yelps. It was five hours of increased pain and distress until finally she became quiet. She suffered greatly with whole body dry heaves. It was very painful. Have your dog compassionately euthanized to avoid this. I held out too long.

Your crying is NOT awkward. I’m a 51 year old man who walks around listening to death metal music like a “tough guy”. Let me tell you I have been crying at home, at work, I’m my car, pretty much everywhere. I’m barely eating and barely sleeping. My yorkie, coco, an 11 year old male, was slowing down a bit but other than that fine. He pushed open our bedroom door this past Mother’s Day with his nose like he always does and my wife and I noticed blood drops on the floor coming from the right side of his face. There was an abscess under his hair that cut open when he opened the door (he has been opening the doors like that for years). It was a Sunday, regular vet closed, so we took him to the emergency vet. I walked him before we went. He was walking/running fine. Barking at everything in sight like usual. Hospital said it was an abscess due to a tooth infection. They shaved around the abscess, drained it, called me and said all is well and are going to give me medication for the pain and infection, and I can pick him up. Not 5 minutes later, EVERYTHING changed. They called me back, saying “we just checked your dogs blood and the level is very high indicating dehydration, possibly from kidney disease. Im thinking “why did they tell me all is well BEFORE checking his blood?” Now they sent him home with other medications. Gabapentin, however it’s spelled being one and the other n medicine I can’t recall the name. Both in liquid form. Got home. Started the medication that night. Keep in mind he was walking FINE that day.by the following morning he could barely even stand up, let alone walk. I then took him to our regular vet the next day. They think it’s stage 2 or 3 kidney disease. He seems comfortable, but shakes a lot when he is awake. Bringing him for more testing tomorrow. What the hell?????
my dog was 7y diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure, she was at the vet many days for fluids, she was doing better sometimes for days and even for 2 months . The last time she spend 4 days on fluids at the vet, she was great , eating normal, no vomiting or diarrhea and the next day she could not walk anymore !! I called the vet and i had to put her to sleep this Tuesday.
her blood test showed everything normal 4 months ago. Then she got ear infection and vet ask me to take another blood test. Vet called me her results Crea 418 Urea 15.6 and the rest high as well . Told me dog should be on fluids 48h . she was better but within days got worse back to vet fluids again 72h after this she was really well for around 2 months then it got worse back on fluits 48h no improvement this time extended fluids another 48h Vet called me and said the fluid therapy won't help anymore. So, after 1st diagnosed until her death around 4 months @@aravindhmass2873
Thanks for the video, I know what I am going to face. I have shi tzu too, and recently diagnosed kidney failure too. The doctor instantly suggest me to go for euthanasia, but my dog's condition still pretty early, I don't think it's time to give him up. I hope you can get better, it's so hard. I understand.
I had to make the decision 2 days ago I forgot what they said but 67% of something was in his blood due to the kidney failure and he was also diabetic so he was suffering. I'm heartbroken 💔
Thank you for making this video. My senior dachshund kidney values showed the beginning of kidney issues and she's been having seizures- every three or four months. She had one last night but has been pacing for the last few days. She can't have a dental cleaning and so they offer pulse therapy- antibiotics- every 3 months or so. She also has a heart murmur. She will be 19 on the 19th of June. I have a 22 year old kitty with CKD, who gets fluids every day. I give my little dog CBD oil, and lemon balm extract once the seizure to seems to be accelerating instead of easing. This one lasted from 3AM to 530 AM. She's really exhausted today but improving. When it's time we will do what needs to be done. We had to put her previous companion kitty down a few years ago. He was 19 and I found him as a kitten, abandoned by his mom, his eyes were still blue and he had to be bottle fed. That night the little dog & I went to bed and it was hard that the kitty was gone. He would wait until we settled and then come in the room, turning on the motion sensor night lights. I sort of whispered how I wished the lights would come on and they did! His little spirit is still with us turning those lights on every night when we're settled. It's not the kitty we have now because she's in her spot when it happens. They still hang with us if you take the time to notice. I would always feel my little guy walk into the room before I saw him (still in his body then) . They never leave us, just leave the suffering container.
I have a dog, 13 year old border collie mix, who recently got diagnosed with kidney failure. She's currently doing really well, and it hasn't been going on for long. As I got her tested for it in late February or early March this year, and the test came back negative back then, but early stage in November. I'm scared of how it'll go, further down the line, but I just hope she passesof natural causes before it gets bad. I don't want her to experience it, but I don't want to be the one ending her life too soon if she's still got life in her. We changed her diet, gives her supplements, and I'm doing so much research regarding the disease. Our dogs deserve the best. Also, while I did research, I found out that bad diet can be traced back from kidney failure. It's not been done enough research on as for now tho, but dry, low quality food can be the cause. In zoo's, they've found out why captive big cats get kidney failure, when those in the wild don't. Big cats in zoos get fed more often than those in the wild. So they've started testing if that theory is correct, by zoos feeding them fewer times, but with big meals, like they do in the wild. Gonna take a few years to see if it's correct, but if they suspect the feeding schedule is the reason, it's not far off for people to think it's the same for our house cats and dogs.
Our little 14 year old rescue pup is going through this right now and is scheduled to be put to sleep on Monday. She's so frail but can still go outside and down the few steps to the yard, but she can't get back up, so she just lays down. She hasn't eaten in a week so it's time to help her pass on so she doesn't suffer. She will be missed dearly. 😭
My Poosh is 16 and starting to have kidney problems. Not looking forward to this, but will keep doing everything to make her happy. Thanks for sharing.
I’m so sorry hun!!!! My heart goes out to you. I know the pain too well. My 17 year old chihuahua was just diagnosed this month with the same however the vet totally missed he was also anemic. Luckily his cardiologist caught it. His kidney failure was brought upon by his arthritis medication called metacam or meloxcam. I must ask, was your baby on any medication, flea/tick treatment? Because these are known to cause kidney and liver failure. I’m surprised the doctor didn’t recommend or put her on renal food as well as aluminum hydroxide which helps flush out the toxins such as phosphorus from the kidneys. The aluminum hydroxide is a binder that aids in this overall treatment. My baby is on fluids twice a week and I’ve got his anemia under control as it was causing him to have respiratory distress. I still can’t believe the vet missed it. I know your baby is in heaven but I do hope this information is helpful should you be blessed with another furbaby. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
My fur-sister (a white miniature poodle) died on August 27, 2023 (a week ago). The most difficult choice of my life was to choose to put her down, but the most selfless choice was to allow her to be free from this world and join my mother on the other side. My fur-sister went though most of what you are stating within the last 4 days of her life. So, I didn’t lose her last Sunday, I had actually lost her like 4 days prior because she wasn’t herself anymore. The only way to be at peace was to give her everlasting life. But the vet stated that she had kidney failure due to old age. I had family that wanted to imply that she died from other things like cancer or diabetes, but I’m at peace with what the doctor said and leaving it at that. She lived to be 12 years old, and that was all of my 20s and the first couple of years of my 30s. She was truly my mother’s second daughter.
I just lost my 16 Year old Mini Poodle Bitzy to Kidney Failure on August 3rd , she was in pain and I couldn’t stand to see her like that any longer so we had to say goodbye💔 … had her since I was 8 , I am 24 now and she has left a hole in my heart that will never heal …. Bitzy and Teddy are in Puppy heaven, because that’s where they belong .. Little Angels 💕

My 11 year old dog just passed away Saturday. He had diabetes and we were treating it with insulin. He then started getting worse and we decided it was time to say goodbye so we were going to call the vet at 8am so we could get it done at home but he passed away at 5:40am. It was the worse seeing his body shutting down. I felt hopeless. I cried seeing him in so much pain. I wish I had more time with him. I miss him so much and my heart aches 😢

I feel for everybody on here and know your pain, my beautiful choc lab Lola took her last breath 3 hours ago, we had the vet come to our home as she hated the vets so much, she was held by myself and two of my daughters surrounded by love, she was diagnosed at xmas with kidney disease, at least she had a long happy life as would have been 16 in two days time.
It's been just over 2 weeks. I still cry. My other dog misses her and cries to me at night asking, "Where is she? It's hell. I wish you the best and know the pain..
On May 13th we lost one of our dogs, Our Beloved Angel, she was 12 years and 10 months old. She was at home surrounded by me and my siblings. It was very hard for all of us. Angel kept strong the whole way, Will truly miss her and all the love she gave us ❤️ I'm sorry for your lost, losing a pet isn't easy.

My dog just passed, I still had a little hope. I’m so much shock because he was fine on monday, now he is gone. It’s hard to loose Brownie, he was with me through many tough times, he was always reliable. Hope i get the courage to make a video, I still can’t believe it. That he is gone. Only comfort is that it was here at the home and not at a cold hospital. My dad also loves Brownie, not sure how he is going to take it. I’m not telling him till the morning, But i know he is going to take it really badly. I’m still in shock.

I had to take my dog to get put to sleep on sunday at 13 years old. He was a corgi jack russel mix. He was only diagnosed with kidney failure last Thursday after i noticed that his energy levels went down, he was missing meals for over a day, was vomiting and diarrhea in the house daily (he was trained for the majority of his life) we checked him into a dog hospital on Friday to be put on fluids. They also put him on pain killers. We visited him later on friday and he was fine & eating. By Saturday he looked like he was in pain, crying and wouldn't eat. They discharged him from the hospital on Sunday, saying that his blood levels in his kidneys have decreased (which is a positive sign) however, when we took him home on the Sunday he was screaming for the 8 hours he was at home. He had a very bad smell to him, wouldn't eat, we had to force feed him water, when i took him on his final walk he was incontinent. He would pee on himself and was behaving like a zombie, he didn't know where he was and was struggling to breathe. We made the decision to take him to be out to sleep that evening. i held him in his final moments before they injected him and he looked me in the eyes. I feel so horrible and guilty for his death. Part of me feels like it was my fault for taking him into the hospital to be put on fluids for the kidney flush. He died days before my birthday (today) and ive been at home crying every day and watching these kind of videos to cope with my grief. 😢😢😢
I wish I could give you a hug right now. My dog passed on 1/21/21 at approximately 12:11 am. She had several seizures which I think were a result of her kidneys and other organs failing. One Question.....Did Your Veterinarian Regularly Check "Blood-Pressure" in Teddy...? .. 3-weeks-ago I was taking some of my older-dogs to my Veterinarian, to get their Blood-Pressures checked, and on that day my 8-year-old dog "Goodie-Good" began vomiting, so I included her in our trip to the Vet to get her examined, and to get her Blood-Pressure checked, too.......She had a full, annual exam, with a Full-Panel Blood Test, and I asked my Vet to check her "Blood-Pressure", and sure enough, the Blood-Test showed that her Kidney Values were Super-High, way out of normal, and her "Blood-Pressure" was Very-High at ..( 205-over-150 )....The High-Blood-Pressure was destroying her Kidneys .. I had never asked to have her Blood-Pressure checked, and I am So-Sorry that I never had this done during her annual exams.....I just did not think of it, and my Veterinarian never suggested it....I am treating my dog at home with IV-Fluids, and with Sub-Q-Fluids, hoping that her Kidneys are still "salvageable" and that she will live for another year, or more ... Best To You ...."Teddy" was lucky to have You.
My girl passed from end stage kidney failure and seizures the week before she turned 17. She was going to start on home-based intravenous fluids when she passed suddenly. She too was pacing at nights and pressing her head against corners

Im going through this rn... my baby girl has been in intensive fluid therapy, she only eats when we feed her and most of the time doesn't want the food so she has to be forced fed, then she throws up. As she mentions, she has happy periods but it follows with her losing her breath really fast. This is so heart breaking. We suspect she drank water contaminated with bacteria, and just caught it too late. She is just a year old, she had so many more places to see, beach trips, parks to run and play in, hikes to go on. It is just not fair :(

My doggie ate only the food I would put down his throat for about 4 months. (the only exception was pepperidge farm pecan cookie) It was renal can food from the vet, and he sat infront of me, me on a small stool. I had a plate of bite size portions and would put it down his throat one by one. There were a few "ejections", not easy all the time, but doable, but careful not to hold the mouth shut. It only got a bit messy, but after a while he got used to it, as this was eating for him, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. We made a you tube of this to show others how it's done, but honestly although it's been 18 weeks since he was put down (I'm still counting in weeks!) I have not had the courage to view it. Putting a doggie down is hard, but a duty. The mind plays tricks of guilt and doubt-that's normal. Do the best you can and just remember the love.
I understand your pain....I had a dog who accidentally ate a raisin and a month later died of kidney failure! it was so horrendous....our vet couldnt come to put him down whem we needed him to because our vet had covid at the time when we tried to call him.....we had to let him suffer and die. it was aweful, but thankfully it was only one long night and he passed early in the am. such a heart wrencing disease, especially if it goes acute before you know what is happening....we live rural and had just been in to see the vet and found out he had failing kidneys, a week later he was losing his life in spite of antibiotics and fluids....the timing of our vet getting sick was terrible.....raisins and grapes are straight up poison to dogs. no joke. I am sorry for your loss.

I am dealing with this right now with my angel girl. She is almost 14 and also has Addison’s and heart failure. Now kidney disease. I am heartbroken but tomorrow she may cross the rainbow bridge. This is soooo heartbreaking
My sweetheart had 1 week from diagnosis to death. It was so fast. Sweetest guy. I love him and miss him. He wouldn't eat then drink. If I knew how fast this was I would have him euthanized sooner than later. It was horrible towards the end. Thank you for this video it helped so much.
Your story sounds so much like mine. I have been scrolling RUclips trying to find something. This does not give me a good resolution, but we are doing the same.... pumpkin, chicken broth.... she refuses to eat even with hard hitter hunger stimulants. She is only 6 and is a shihpoo (half shitzu) ugh. This sucks. We have been doing IV fluids at home daily (200mg), antibiotics, and we are not seeing any improvement. I wish there was something. I thought for sure she was young enough that these interventions would make her come back fast. Did you ever hear of anything else since you lost yours?

My dog was 17 and I just had to put him down because of kidney failure. He wasn’t eating anything even his favorite foods and he couldn’t walk and his breath smelled like death. He was shaking and liquid would come out of his mouth. I’m not ok and I don’t think I ever will be ok. I can’t believe this is real. I can’t live without him. Life sucks

Mine 14. She got parvo, and her kidneys weren't strong enough. The new vaccine cured it, but her kidneys got messed. Her blood contaminated, and she started twitching. Was the most painful thing I've gone through my entire life.

I’m dealing with kidney failure as well as canine cognitive disease and my dog is 17 years old. Honestly I feel she is experiencing a rapid decline in quality of life. Drastic measures and vet visits and care to simply extend her life a few months is not that appealing. If she were a younger animal it would be a different situation. She’s my best friend and the thought of loosing her is devastating. That said, simply prolonging her pain and misery for my own selfish wants is something I think I will decline. I guess in an ideal world we would all (pets and people) pass peacefully and easily, but that’s not normally the case. I feel for your loss and appreciate this video to help others in similar situations. It’s not east watching an animal suffer.
Wow 17 years old. That’s truly incredible! Its not going to be easy but you’d never want to look back and regret keeping her longer than you should have. My vet didn’t tell me that I needed to put Teddy down, I as the owner had to make that tough decision. I knew her quality of life was just deteriorating. My dog had an Internist. She was put on the meds. She would go for her blood and protein creatine urine test every 2 to 3 months. She was 28 days of having kidney disease for almost 7 years. She passed away at home last week. I will pray for your dog.

Thank you for sharing this, my dog has had CKD since he was 8 years old. He's 12 now, and recently he was not his usual self and we went to the vet to find out his CKD levels were not good, the very next day he had a seizure and I was alone, I 100% feel you it was the scariest thing ever (i googled and found that they aren't in pain when they go through a seizure, which made me feel a tiny bit relieved). I'm so sorry for your loss! I can only imagine how you feel, and my dog is still struggling with it and fighting on. If anyone out there is watching this and reading this too, it's good to get an annual blood test to ensure their levels are in check, and also take supplements such as Renal by Candioli & Omega 3 & 6 to aid the kidneys, ensure their meals have enough moisture with high quality nutrients (not just dried kibbles, their not good enough). I work in the pet care line and I cannot emphasise how supplements are so important because dogs especially their immune system works very differently and they lick all kinds of bacteria. A lot of the issues start in the gut.
Dogs don't have a long lifespan, they really teach us a lesson before they go, and I know for a fact he had the best life with you, we can see how you care for him in just one video! Stay strong babe!!!

My little Chihuahua passed this past Sunday around 6am, I adopted him in 2011 with 1 year old, in 2013 he was diagnosed with Kidney failure, such a beautiful boy we loved him so much our house looks so empty without him.

My sweet 9.5 yr old sharpei Allie is dying from kidney failure as I watch this. It’s heart breaking…she is at my feet wrapped in blankets trying to sleep. She has not gotten to point of seizures but is in stage 4. I know I have to make the decision this week. It sucks. My husband just lost his dad 4 days ago and its 4 days before Thanksgiving. I’ve never been with a dog I had to put down. I don’t know how I will get through it. Thank you for this video and I’m so sorry for the loss of your little queen. Me and my wife is going through this now. Our boy is 17 1/2 yrs old he would of been 18 in October 8th. Tomorrow is the day me and my wife agree to put him to rest peaceful. Hi, I'm in awe on how strong you are for telling your story, know that your baby love you and is happy crossing the rainbow bridge, Our chihuahua "kendra" who is our family's entire world and is 10 years old right now was diagnosed with kidney diseas back in 2020, it broke our hearts knowing we must be more strict/careful with her food from that on and her diet consists of only Royal Canin Renal dog food (Wet/Loaf Type) and some chiken, she is a very picky eater and without monitoring/forcing she would just ignore and leave, Four days ago she suddenly got very weak and we brought her to the vet for checkup, we got the meds and its been 4 days now and she's still very lethargic, I'm so depressed right now.

@@popaki9484 Hi, apologies for my english, its not my first language, I'm fully sending my love your way on yourr furbaby's heallth, Unfortunately our baby kendra just crossed the rainbow bridge last April 24th 2023, it was a sudden she was doing fine then as we went for a walk that's where she gave out, it hurts but relived as well because I know she is pain free now, and we know we fought to the very end. We had her cremated and she's got a beautiful spot on our home. I know she's runnning wherever she wants and eat whatever she wants now, and I know we will see eachother again someday. My heart breaks with you. I'm right there right now with my dog soulmate going thru all you share (he has had end stage kidney failure for 5 months now - almost died when it got identified as the issue). Sorry for you lost .. my dog just recently passed so I completely understand how you feel … my big ole puppy 🐶 has been there thru the good and bad .. think and thin.. 13 years .. was there threw a my divorce .. me starting my first business .. late nights working .. new relationships … a new child … a pandemic …opening a second business… every moment I was sick or down .. she was right there with me… it sad but the last three days I made as comfortable as possible … told her how much she will be missed and loved 100 times and was there for that last moment … I hope she knows I miss her…this is my first, only and last pet so i appreciate you sharing you experience…

You're video is so informative. I lost my baby, Sissy, on 6-30-21. She was drinking a lot of water her last two years. I knew something wasn't right but I didn't have the money to get her treated. I'm battling guilt right now. She had renal failure and she also was lethargic. And as I watch this, you are crying. I'm sorry you lost your baby. I'm broken and lost without sissy. I pray GOD helps me.

I lost my bull lurcher to stage 3 kidney failure on 16 April 2021 we had to make the hard decision to say goodbye. Our dog was very old we think about 15 he was a stray and chose us as his parents. We had the pleasure of loving him for 8.5 years. He was the most beautiful dog ever. He was only diagnosed with kf 3 weeks before he passed but we are so pleased at least he got to old age. I am so pleased that Teddy lived to a good age too. “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened”. Run free Simba my beautiful gentle “big lad” xxxx

I ambheart broken hearing your story because my own furbaby was recently diagnosed with stage 2 CKD and no one ever discusses how the progression of the disease will be. I guess they dont want to worry me but knowing in advance, although it does make me extremely sad, it also calms me because i feel like we can prepare for the worst now the best that we can. If i didn't know in advance and my baby started having seizure, i think i might have a panic attack while watching it. But now, that i am warned, i am hoping i won't. Hoping 🤞. Ps. My vet said it could also be hereditary in older dogs. My only prayer to God is to let her go peacefully in her sleep and to not make it so bad that i have to be the one to make the decision. That is so much harder on me.

I’m very sorry for your loss, I found your video after frantically looking for anything I could do to help my 12 year old Chihuahua. I took him to my vet after he was vomiting up almost every meal he ate and he was just not the same playful little dog. He had no energy and just wanted to sleep.
He lost his appetite for his food all his favorite treats. His blood tests show Bun of 58.6 mmol/L and Creatinine of 926 mmol/L.
Today is his first day in the hospital for aggressive Iv fluid treatment but I’m not sure he will pull through as he was eating very little before I brought him in. I’m praying that I can at least get a few more weeks or months with him before I too say goodbye. Thank you for being brave enough to share your painful experience. I don’t think I could do it without falling apart.

I'm so sorry for your loss and pain. We are that the same crossroad right now so I feel your pain. What started off as parasites then a urinary infection and then a infection on prostate an it seems that no matter what type of antibiotics we are giving him have worked in removing the mass on his prostate or the infection in his urinary tract. Now 2 months later his kidneys are failing. We have to drain his pee everyday and give him IV's and if it doesn't get better we have to make that hard decision. I was in tears watching your video. Beautiful tribute to your furry baby.

The key you mentioned towards the end on the video is "suffering". Today, I put down my old kitty of 15 years. (not pictured on my profile) She had hyperthyroidism which caused more than one chronic condition but in the end it was her chronic kidney disease that caused her poor health. We put her down today at our local vet and it is never easy doing the `right' thing. As much as I would have wanted to keep her at home, she was suffering from pain, and was refusing to eat. Vet and I tried several meds but she lost too much weight and after three days, she was beyond recovery. My kitty was not the first to live beyond 15 yrs nor the first to be put down due to suffe from disease. I know she is in a much better place and we are grateful for her lifetime of love.
I had to put my baby Harley to sleep on August 27, 2020 from kidney failure it was the most horrific day of my life and I will never ever recover until I meet with him when it’s my time to go in heaven! The Bible says according to your faith be at unto you and I believe with all of my heart he is waiting in heaven at the door for me! I cry every single day I miss him desperately! We put him to sleep in our bedroom on our bed where he always liked to sleep my husband and I were both right down at his face looking into his eyes petting him and talking to him and just before he fell asleep he licked both of our noses I am absolutely devastated my sweet sweet baby is not with me!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Wow I really felt your pain and love when reading this! It really is so difficult losing our fur babies and just comprehending the loss on a daily basis! I am currently appying holistic treatment to my dog for chronic kidney disease. I holistically reversed my terminal cancer 10 years ago, so im back on the job....i plan to reverse his kidney disease. If i succeed, i plan to write a book because there is not much help out there!
You can't reverse it but you can prolong long it.
I feel your pain. My 13 yr old Border Collie died from CKD-chronic kidney disease just a few days ago. I wish I had her euthanized but she died on Sunday night and there was nothing left I could do for her. She suffered greatly and it was awful. My heart is broken like yours. She hadn't drank water for at least 2 days. She started making these small purring noises and then she began to get louder until she was crying out with yelps. It was five hours of increased pain and distress until finally she became quiet. She suffered greatly with whole body dry heaves. It was very painful.
Have your dog compassionately euthanized to avoid this. I held out too long.

Your crying is NOT awkward. I’m a 51 year old man who walks around listening to death metal music like a “tough guy”. Let me tell you I have been crying at home, at work, I’m my car, pretty much everywhere. I’m barely eating and barely sleeping. My yorkie, coco, an 11 year old male, was slowing down a bit but other than that fine. He pushed open our bedroom door this past Mother’s Day with his nose like he always does and my wife and I noticed blood drops on the floor coming from the right side of his face. There was an abscess under his hair that cut open when he opened the door (he has been opening the doors like that for years). It was a Sunday, regular vet closed, so we took him to the emergency vet. I walked him before we went. He was walking/running fine. Barking at everything in sight like usual. Hospital said it was an abscess due to a tooth infection. They shaved around the abscess, drained it, called me and said all is well and are going to give me medication for the pain and infection, and I can pick him up. Not 5 minutes later, EVERYTHING changed. They called me back, saying “we just checked your dogs blood and the level is very high indicating dehydration, possibly from kidney disease. Im thinking “why did they tell me all is well BEFORE checking his blood?” Now they sent him home with other medications. Gabapentin, however it’s spelled being one and the other n medicine I can’t recall the name. Both in liquid form. Got home. Started the medication that night. Keep in mind he was walking FINE that day.by the following morning he could barely even stand up, let alone walk. I then took him to our regular vet the next day. They think it’s stage 2 or 3 kidney disease. He seems comfortable, but shakes a lot when he is awake. Bringing him for more testing tomorrow. What the hell?????

my dog was 7y diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure, she was at the vet many days for fluids, she was doing better sometimes for days and even for 2 months . The last time she spend 4 days on fluids at the vet, she was great , eating normal, no vomiting or diarrhea and the next day she could not walk anymore !! I called the vet and i had to put her to sleep this Tuesday.
what is the creatinine and BUN levels of ur dog while she passed away? And How many days it Survived from the day of diagnosis?
her blood test showed everything normal 4 months ago. Then she got ear infection and vet ask me to take another blood test. Vet called me her results Crea 418 Urea 15.6 and the rest high as well . Told me dog should be on fluids 48h . she was better but within days got worse back to vet fluids again 72h after this she was really well for around 2 months then it got worse back on fluits 48h no improvement this time extended fluids another 48h Vet called me and said the fluid therapy won't help anymore. So, after 1st diagnosed until her death around 4 months

Thank you for making this video. My senior dachshund kidney values showed the beginning of kidney issues and she's been having seizures- every three or four months. She had one last night but has been pacing for the last few days. She can't have a dental cleaning and so they offer pulse therapy- antibiotics- every 3 months or so. She also has a heart murmur. She will be 19 on the 19th of June. I have a 22 year old kitty with CKD, who gets fluids every day. I give my little dog CBD oil, and lemon balm extract once the seizure to seems to be accelerating instead of easing. This one lasted from 3AM to 530 AM. She's really exhausted today but improving. When it's time we will do what needs to be done. We had to put her previous companion kitty down a few years ago. He was 19 and I found him as a kitten, abandoned by his mom, his eyes were still blue and he had to be bottle fed. That night the little dog & I went to bed and it was hard that the kitty was gone. He would wait until we settled and then come in the room, turning on the motion sensor night lights. I sort of whispered how I wished the lights would come on and they did! His little spirit is still with us turning those lights on every night when we're settled. It's not the kitty we have now because she's in her spot when it happens. They still hang with us if you take the time to notice. I would always feel my little guy walk into the room before I saw him (still in his body then) . They never leave us, just leave the suffering container.
I have a dog, 13 year old border collie mix, who recently got diagnosed with kidney failure. She's currently doing really well, and it hasn't been going on for long. As I got her tested for it in late February or early March this year, and the test came back negative back then, but early stage in November. I'm scared of how it'll go, further down the line, but I just hope she passesof natural causes before it gets bad. I don't want her to experience it, but I don't want to be the one ending her life too soon if she's still got life in her.
We changed her diet, gives her supplements, and I'm doing so much research regarding the disease. Our dogs deserve the best.
Also, while I did research, I found out that bad diet can be traced back from kidney failure. It's not been done enough research on as for now tho, but dry, low quality food can be the cause. In zoo's, they've found out why captive big cats get kidney failure, when those in the wild don't. Big cats in zoos get fed more often than those in the wild.
So they've started testing if that theory is correct, by zoos feeding them fewer times, but with big meals, like they do in the wild. Gonna take a few years to see if it's correct, but if they suspect the feeding schedule is the reason, it's not far off for people to think it's the same for our house cats and dogs.
Our little 14 year old rescue pup is going through this right now and is scheduled to be put to sleep on Monday. She's so frail but can still go outside and down the few steps to the yard, but she can't get back up, so she just lays down. She hasn't eaten in a week so it's time to help her pass on so she doesn't suffer. She will be missed dearly. 😭

Go to an Internist. My dog's Internist keep her alive with kidney disease for 28 days short of 7 years.
I’m so sorry hun!!!! My heart goes out to you. I know the pain too well. My 17 year old chihuahua was just diagnosed this month with the same however the vet totally missed he was also anemic. Luckily his cardiologist caught it. His kidney failure was brought upon by his arthritis medication called metacam or meloxcam. I must ask, was your baby on any medication, flea/tick treatment? Because these are known to cause kidney and liver failure. I’m surprised the doctor didn’t recommend or put her on renal food as well as aluminum hydroxide which helps flush out the toxins such as phosphorus from the kidneys. The aluminum hydroxide is a binder that aids in this overall treatment. My baby is on fluids twice a week and I’ve got his anemia under control as it was causing him to have respiratory distress. I still can’t believe the vet missed it. I know your baby is in heaven but I do hope this information is helpful should you be blessed with another furbaby. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
My fur-sister (a white miniature poodle) died on August 27, 2023 (a week ago). The most difficult choice of my life was to choose to put her down, but the most selfless choice was to allow her to be free from this world and join my mother on the other side.
My fur-sister went though most of what you are stating within the last 4 days of her life. So, I didn’t lose her last Sunday, I had actually lost her like 4 days prior because she wasn’t herself anymore. The only way to be at peace was to give her everlasting life.
But the vet stated that she had kidney failure due to old age. I had family that wanted to imply that she died from other things like cancer or diabetes, but I’m at peace with what the doctor said and leaving it at that. She lived to be 12 years old, and that was all of my 20s and the first couple of years of my 30s. She was truly my mother’s second daughter.
I just lost my 16 Year old Mini Poodle Bitzy to Kidney Failure on August 3rd , she was in pain and I couldn’t stand to see her like that any longer so we had to say goodbye💔 … had her since I was 8 , I am 24 now and she has left a hole in my heart that will never heal …. Bitzy and Teddy are in Puppy heaven, because that’s where they belong .. Little Angels 💕

My 11 year old dog just passed away Saturday. He had diabetes and we were treating it with insulin. He then started getting worse and we decided it was time to say goodbye so we were going to call the vet at 8am so we could get it done at home but he passed away at 5:40am. It was the worse seeing his body shutting down. I felt hopeless. I cried seeing him in so much pain. I wish I had more time with him. I miss him so much and my heart aches 😢

I feel for everybody on here and know your pain, my beautiful choc lab Lola took her last breath 3 hours ago, we had the vet come to our home as she hated the vets so much, she was held by myself and two of my daughters surrounded by love, she was diagnosed at xmas with kidney disease, at least she had a long happy life as would have been 16 in two days time.
It's been just over 2 weeks. I still cry. My other dog misses her and cries to me at night asking, "Where is she? It's hell. I wish you the best and know the pain..
On May 13th we lost one of our dogs, Our Beloved Angel, she was 12 years and 10 months old. She was at home surrounded by me and my siblings. It was very hard for all of us. Only comfort is that it was here at the home and not at a cold hospital. My dad also loves Brownie, not sure how he is going to take it. I had to take my dog to get put to sleep on sunday at 13 years old. He was a corgi jack russel mix. He was only diagnosed with kidney failure last Thursday after i noticed that his energy levels went down, he was missing meals for over a day, was vomiting and diarrhea in the house daily (he was trained for the majority of his life) we checked him into a dog hospital on Friday to be put on fluids. They also put him on pain killers. We visited him later on friday and he was fine & eating. By Saturday he looked like he was in pain, crying and wouldn't eat. They discharged him from the hospital on Sunday, saying that his blood levels in his kidneys have decreased (which is a positive sign) however, when we took him home on the Sunday he was screaming for the 8 hours he was at home. He had a very bad smell to him, wouldn't eat, we had to force feed him water, when i took him on his final walk he was incontinent. He would pee on himself and was behaving like a zombie, he didn't know where he was and was struggling to breathe. We made the decision to take him to be out to sleep that evening. i held him in his final moments before they injected him and he looked me in the eyes. I feel so horrible and guilty for his death. Part of me feels like it was my fault for taking him into the hospital to be put on fluids for the kidney flush. He died days before my birthday (today) and ive been at home crying every day and watching these kind of videos to cope with my grief. 😢😢😢
I wish I could give you a hug right now. My dog passed on 1/21/21 at approximately 12:11 am. She had several seizures which I think were a result of her kidneys and other organs failing. One Question.....Did Your Veterinarian Regularly Check "Blood-Pressure" in Teddy...? .. 3-weeks-ago I was taking some of my older-dogs to my Veterinarian, to get their Blood-Pressures checked, and on that day my 8-year-old dog "Goodie-Good" began vomiting, so I included her in our trip to the Vet to get her examined, and to get her Blood-Pressure checked, too.......She had a full, annual exam, with a Full-Panel Blood Test, and I asked my Vet to check her "Blood-Pressure", and sure enough, the Blood-Test showed that her Kidney Values were Super-High, way out of normal, and her "Blood-Pressure" was Very-High at ..( 205-over-150 )....The High-Blood-Pressure was destroying her Kidneys .. I had never asked to have her Blood-Pressure checked, and I am So-Sorry that I never had this done during her annual exams.....I just did not think of it, and my Veterinarian never suggested it....I am treating my dog at home with IV-Fluids, and with Sub-Q-Fluids, hoping that her Kidneys are still "salvageable" and that she will live for another year, or more ... Best To You ...."Teddy" was lucky to have You.

Im going through this rn... my baby girl has been in intensive fluid therapy, she only eats when we feed her and most of the time doesn't want the food so she has to be forced fed, then she throws up. As she mentions, she has happy periods but it follows with her losing her breath really fast. This is so heart breaking. We suspect she drank water contaminated with bacteria, and just caught it too late. She is just a year old, she had so many more places to see, beach trips, parks to run and play in, hikes to go on. It is just not fair :(
hi my dog is almost 14 and was diagnosed about same as your dog and he also has cushings….im confused if its time or not but if you knew what you know before you had to put your baby down would you have done it sooner before it got worst? thank you for posting a video like this

My doggie ate only the food I would put down his throat for about 4 months. (the only exception was pepperidge farm pecan cookie) It was renal can food from the vet, and he sat infront of me, me on a small stool. I had a plate of bite size portions and would put it down his throat one by one. There were a few "ejections", not easy all the time, but doable, but careful not to hold the mouth shut. It only got a bit messy, but after a while he got used to it, as this was eating for him, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. We made a you tube of this to show others how it's done, but honestly although it's been 18 weeks since he was put down (I'm still counting in weeks!) I have not had the courage to view it.
Putting a doggie down is hard, but a duty. The mind plays tricks of guilt and doubt-that's normal. Do the best you can and just remember the love.
I understand your pain....I had a dog who accidentally ate a raisin and a month later died of kidney failure! it was so horrendous....our vet couldnt come to put him down whem we needed him to because our vet had covid at the time when we tried to call him.....we had to let him suffer and die. it was aweful, but thankfully it was only one long night and he passed early in the am. such a heart wrencing disease, especially if it goes acute before you know what is happening....we live rural and had just been in to see the vet and found out he had failing kidneys, a week later he was losing his life in spite of antibiotics and fluids....the timing of our vet getting sick was terrible.....raisins and grapes are straight up poison to dogs. no joke. I am sorry for your loss.
Mine was 14. Same exact symptoms. She died in my arms. I don't feel ok and I don't know what to do now. But she is not in pain anymore. That matters to me more than my broken heart
I am dealing with this right now with my angel girl. She is almost 14 and also has Addison’s and heart failure. Now kidney disease. I am heartbroken but tomorrow she may cross the rainbow bridge. This is soooo heartbreaking
My sweetheart had 1 week from diagnosis to death. It was so fast.
Sweetest guy. I love him and miss him. He wouldn't eat then drink.
If I knew how fast this was I would have him euthanized sooner than later. It was horrible towards the end. Thank you for this video it helped so much.

Your story sounds so much like mine. I have been scrolling RUclips trying to find something. This does not give me a good resolution, but we are doing the same.... pumpkin, chicken broth.... she refuses to eat even with hard hitter hunger stimulants. She is only 6 and is a shihpoo (half shitzu) ugh. This sucks. We have been doing IV fluids at home daily (200mg), antibiotics, and we are not seeing any improvement. I wish there was something. I thought for sure she was young enough that these interventions would make her come back fast. Did you ever hear of anything else since you lost yours?

I'm going through the same thing with my 16 year old dog and I'm trying to put my make up on while you're listening to your video. My eyes are waterfalls. My heart is hurts my tomach is tight and I have to finish your vodeo later. Sorry about your loss. We all know that we're going to outlive our little soul mates but dam it hurts. Also, do we get another pet to ease the pain or do we vow never to have a pet again. What helps our broken hearts heal and stop the waterfalls?
