@@thedognutritionistmy dog’s teeth has built up a lot of yellow tartar. I wanna use the plague off for dog. Just wanna know if it’s ok to use for dog with early renal problems?
You can, but at the later stages you want to boil the meat and remove the water, as this demineralises the meat and removes phosphorus. In a pressure cooker everything stays in.
Hi, would this diet/meal support a dog who has heart disease in addition to stage 2 kidney disease? Are the any ingredients I should add/remove where cardiovascular health is concerned?
This is exactly what I've been looking for! Happy to find a reliable source sharing recipes for dog health! Our girl has a chicken allergy, as far as replacing it as a protein, are there any other meats we should avoid for kidney support? Thank you!
My dog has been on this diet for 2 months now, and she is losing weight. Doing well, but getting skinny. Will adding sweet potato help add some carbs and help her put on some weight? And if so, do I use both butternut squash and sweet potato- or one or the other? Is there any other vegetables that will help gain weight, and there are still are safe for dogs with renal failure?
Has anyone tried this diet and then monitored blood kidney function markers to see if they improve, stay the same or get worse? I took my cat off his prescription renal diet and put him on a whole food high quality meat diet but within 6 months his kidney disease had progressed and he wasn’t doing very well. My dog now has kidney disease as well as possible pancreatitis and Addison’s disease and as much as I would love her to have a fresh whole food diet I’m scared it’s going to get worse. I know the prescription kidney diets are highly processed but they really do seem to slow progression, I just want my dog to live as long as possible and feel as good as she can. It’s so confusing when there is so much conflicting information out there :(

Thank you so much for this video!!! I have a million questions. Is there somewhere I can email? My dog is being very finicky, and also may have lost some sense of smell recently, I can’t get much in her beyond chicken and treats. And she doesn’t want the chicken boiled, she wants it baked because it’s more juicy and flavorful. I don’t know if baking chicken in water reduces phosphorus the same way boiling does. Do you have somewhere where I can send in all the questions I have and get them answered?

Just wanted to share that I've tried a variation of this recipe on my beagle with stage 1 kidney disease for 17 days. The variation includes just using pork liver instead of venison liver as well as mango instead of blueberries (as they are also a good source of antioxidants and are more readily available where I live). I kept all the ratios the same, though it is weird how they add up to >100%. I have also monitored my dog's Creatinine (CREA) levels with the vet at the start and end of this diet. The results are as follows: 3.3 mg/dL (day 0) and 5.48 mg/dL (day 17). At least for my dog, this diet was shown to make her kidney disease worse as indicated by a 66% increase in CREA levels over this short span of time. So I would advise to take this recipe/guide with a grain of salt (sorry for the pun) and consult with your vet before switching your dog's diet. Or at least just monitor your dog's CREA levels often when trying out a diet like this to make sure it doesn't have any negative impacts.
My dog's experience with the dog food is as follows: I transitioned my dog to the new diet over a few days. She loved the new dog food immediately. She ate every single bit we gave her at first. She definitely preferred it over Royal Canin Renal. This really made me happy because she is such a picky eater. Her stool was also pretty much normal. However, after a few days, she began picking out the meats from the veg, though I still made sure she ate everything she needed day-to-day. Nearer to the end of the 17 days I noticed that she became very lethargic. She also started vomiting and had blood in her stool. At that point, I knew something was wrong and decided to get her retested. I initially wanted to try out this diet for a month before testing again though I didn't expect her health to turn bad so quickly. I want to note though that the only variable I changed was her diet. Also that by the end of the 17 days, she did not want to even go near the new food anymore. Again this is just me sharing my experience with it so my intention is not to discredit anyone.
Hi there, results on a given day can vary due to many factors like levels of hydration and stress. We recommend two months on the diet for it to take effect. This diet has helped thousands of dogs, and whilst every dog is different, we still think you should give it a little longer. We'd recommend introducing something to increase hydration and give the diet another month. It's fantastic you're monitoring so closely.
Hello sir Recently my pet (shihtzu) been diagnosed with B/L Renal Dysplasia... What diet I'm supposed to follow and how much of oral fluids I need to maintain in him
I am very sorry to hear that, it's an extremely tricky issue. It's very dependent on the individual, but a very simple fresh food diet. Wash all the ingredients and boil the meat.
It's getting nearly impossible to get my 14 1/2 year-old Boykin mix to eat. It would be very helpful if there was a PDF of this recipe, as well as more detailed info on the recipe, starting with, the amount of each ingredient. I do not see where you mention how many pounds of chicken you used in this example.
You can feed her once a day or twice within a 6hr window. Make sure you use my kidney support recipes, here's a link: www.thedognutritionist.com/products/kidney

I love this video! My dog has had a bladder stone removed like 6 years ago and has been on Hills Prescription C/D food and distilled water every since (she hasn't had another stone since). Now I'm retired and would love to start making her food. Can I use this same recipe? Or is there something she shouldn't be eating? Do you sell recipe books for dogs that are susceptible to struvite stones? Thanks

Hi, I have a instapot which pressure cooks. Is it okay to use that to cook the meats?
Hello! No worries about using a pressure cooker!
thank you for this video, very informative! i’ve been watching your videos and i was wondering if it is possible to receive your insight about The Honest Kitchen (dry food). thank you so much
Hi Cam,
Thank you for the amazing advice.
Can you PLEASE post a video with a recipes for stage 4 kidney disease 😢🐾😔
Thank you.
I'm looking for this too!
These recipes are in my kidney support plan. The recipes don't change too much to be honest, slightly less protein but not a massive decrease.
Hello. I sent you a message about my dog having cushings disease for approximately 3 yrs ago. From that she developed calcinosis cutis and interdigital cyst. During our last visit to the vet to check her bloodwork I asked the doc to check her urine and discovered protein in the urine. Then discovered she had kidney disease. Amazingly she is doing great. I make her food and do believe it has helped her. I would love to know what would be the best diet for her now. I've only know about the kidney disease for about a month. She is 10 yrs old. Trying to find a balanced recipe that would be good for both diseases. I'm really glad to have found you to help me with this. Thank you so much❤
My dog has a chicken sensitivity. Skin reaction. What’s best protein alternative?

Have an older dig with high acidic urine, had an urinary infection. They assume calcium oxolate stones or urate stones
2 different diets one low purine on low oxolates. I had been adding Greek yogurt, kefir, eggs, bone pate, chicken ,with dry kibbles. Obviously I
was wrong. I heard low or no animal protein but he is a older boxer so no peas or lentils due to heart issues (already had heart palpitations with them)
Help please Sabrina & HuggyBear ❤
Hi! Have been a huge fan of your work for some time now... Finally decided to switch my dog to a raw diet, just a quick one...how come you boiled the chicken and liver here rather than keeping it raw? Apologies if I missed the why in the vid! cheers
All food changes in values of vitamins, nutrients etc when served cooked vs raw.
For nutritious meals for your pup, you can choose between two options: raw and cooked food.
What about chickpea or lentil kind of things to add, i have not read anything about them, neither in your book nor in your videos? Are they not good for dogs? Thank you so much
Legumes are generally not recommended for dogs. They don't break them down, and they contain phytic acid/ lectins which leach minerals from the blood.
How much of this meal can I give to a 29 kg shepsky? Hoping for a response.
P.s. she recommended a treatment which is a pill 5 days per month to keep the dental bacteria low. What do you think about this ?? Thanks!!
Hi !! Thank you so much for your content :) I have an adult beagle that needs to loose weight. Do you have recommendations for weightloss recipes? And what are your thoughts on dry-freezed food mixed with some homemade recipes? I do not want him to miss nutrients while loosing weight ... Thank you so much :D

Can I use this receipt for my dog with proteinuria ? ( UPC 7.3 )
Yes!
@@thedognutritionistmy dog’s teeth has built up a lot of yellow tartar. I wanna use the plague off for dog. Just wanna know if it’s ok to use for dog with early renal problems?
Can I pressure cook
I have been giving him mutton with rice and vegetables n 1tbsp of RC renal diet .. his vet has prescribed to give RC renal diet
Yes it would. You could add some pomegranate which has been shown to slow cardiomyopathies in dogs. Cam
Great thank you. One more question, sorry - what quantity should be fed? 2% of bodyweight and can I mix with Orijen Senior Kibble?
will this help a Chinese shar-pei that gets sharpei fever that leads to kidney failure?
This is exactly what I've been looking for! Happy to find a reliable source sharing recipes for dog health! Our girl has a chicken allergy, as far as replacing it as a protein, are there any other meats we should avoid for kidney support? Thank you!
Hi there! If your dog is not a fan of chicken, find some alternative meats your dog enjoys the most.
By Doing well you mean her labs are good?
Hello! You can check our Kidney Health Plan to guide you more on the recipes for your dog. Here's the link: www.thedognutritionist.com/products/kidney
My dog is Stage 1. Can you say more about what to feed a tiny 5 pound dog in this stage? Thank you! 🙏
It’s so confusing when there is so much conflicting information out there :(
Thanks for the video! I would appreciate one for liver support.
My RUclips video on liver support is up! You may check it at this link: ruclips.net/video/0xEs1mkH9_Y/видео.html
And what will you recommend, I wonder, if dog was on the best diet possible all his life and still have alivated kidney pcu and protein in urine?)

Hello there! Feel free to ask your questions on my website: www.thedognutritionist.com/pages/contact-us
@@thedognutritionist unfortunately it’s too late. My dog passed away last month. The vet’s attempt to treat her kidney disease caused her heart disease to advance rapidly and she had to be euthanized. She was 19.
Sorry to hear about your beloved pet. You must have taken good care for them for such a long life. I'm sure your heart is still broken.
Any recipe for stage 3 kidney failure
Can I sub chicken for turkey or lamb?
Hello! Yes!
Any substitute for squash? Can I replace white rice for carbs?
You can substitute with sweet potato. Try to limit rice please, but it can be used if needed.
Great video, My 24 year old is at Cronic kidney disease, the vet says no hope, just let him eat what he enjoys. I have fed him a raw diet of good quality protein, hard to get him to eat veggies, so I decide to cook ithe veg in organic low sodium bone broth, Can this diet be used for 4?
24 years old is an amazing age! I wanted to say that what I do to get my dog to not pick stuff out is to put it all in a food processor at the end. That way it is nearly impossible to pick out the veggies.
Is there any alternative for butternut squash as its not available in my country easily
Hi there, you can use sweet potato instead.
@@thedognutritionist thank you...using rice or pumpkin is ok instead of that? . My dogs don't like sweet potato. He is minpin with stage 3 kidney disease
Hi ,
I have an 11 year old pittie who has had Cushing’s disease for about 2 years now, and recently was diagnosed with stage 1 kidney disease , also has some gallbladder issues . They prescribed renal diet and kidney diet . I know he has a lot going on but we’re doing our best to slow down these problems while also making sure his quality of life is good.
What would you recommend to cook for him ?
I took time off from work to take better care of him and thank god my bf has a good job so price isn’t an issue.

Hi Cam!
Do you have recommendations for multivitamins that I can get in the US?
Sorry, I don't know that market very well! But if you use the recipes in the Ultimate Homemade Dog Food Handbook, you don't need a multivitamin.
Any recommendations on who to see for homemade cat recipes?
If you half the number of veggies in this recipe, you've got cat kidney food.
Hello sir
Recently my pet (shihtzu) been diagnosed with B/L Renal Dysplasia...
What diet I'm supposed to follow and how much of oral fluids I need to maintain in him
I am very sorry to hear that, it's an extremely tricky issue. It's very dependent on the individual, but a very simple fresh food diet. Wash all the ingredients and boil the meat.
I can't buy liver of any kind where I live and don't have a car. Is there a substitute for the liver?
Hey there! If you can't have liver, you can look for other organ meats such as kidney or heart.
It's getting nearly impossible to get my 14 1/2 year-old Boykin mix to eat. It would be very helpful if there was a PDF of this recipe, as well as more detailed info on the recipe, starting with, the amount of each ingredient. I do not see where you mention how many pounds of chicken you used in this example.

can you replace the protein if the dog is allergic to chicken?
Absolutely. If your dog has a sensitivity to chicken, consider exploring other meat options that your dog enjoys.
I'm a also a clinical dietitian from India - Bangalore... How can I maintain his food
Genuinely curious about the percentages. They add up to 105-110%. Shouldnt this make 100?
What is a good replacement to chicken if my dog doesn’t like it?
If your dog is not a fan of chicken, find some alternative meats your dog enjoys the most. You may opt for beef, fish, goat, pheasant, rabbit, venison, duck, lamb, or pork.
When we use chicken meet does white meat or black meat matter?
Preferably white meat would be best to use.
Mitral valve regurgitation (heart) and Menkes Disease in dogs, also spoil the kidneys.
Do I have to cook this every day or can I cook ahead of time and store?
Absolutely! You can meal prep to save time.

Can you feed a dog in early kidney failure spirulina or chlorella ? I have always feed raw meat and fresh vegetables.
Yes, just make sure it's from a trusted source.
