i think they meant to say that Led Zeppelin influenced many heavy metal bands
Very debatable... According to some Metal Family Trees; Hard Rock is a genre in Metal. Either that or Shock Rock should be called Shock Metal (unless Shock Metal is a genre on its own)

#1 Black Sabbath's first album was released in 1969
#2 There's nothing about weed on that album. A reference to weed first appeared on Sweet Leaf on Master of Reality released in 1971.
#3 Judas wasn't NWOBHM
You are Right about The Sweet Leaf Song but Black Sabbaths first album was Released in 1970 COME ON
There's no specific and open mention of weed until Sweet Leaf, like you said. But there's enough mention of drugs to make us think of weed.
I can't listen to The Wizard without thinking it's about a drug dealer "spreading his magic". Same with Behind the Wall of Sleep - always sounded to me like it's about a bad trip: "Deadly petals with strange power". Can’t take this seriously when you point to NWOBHM making metal “slicker and more radio friendly.” that first maiden record melts faces.
James McGill WALKIN THROUGH THE CITY, LOOKIN OH SO PRETTY, I JUST GOTTA FIND MY WAY
fucks me up every time
Yeah, if anything the NWOBHM were largely an underground kind of movement than a commercial one. The NWOBHM got the underground/DIY attitude from Punk but the sound from older bands like Sabbath, Priest and Deep Purple.
Joshua Ibarra I like to think of NWOBHM as the first combination of indie and metal. Especially with the raw lo fi sound of those records (except Def Leppard heh)
James McGill, NWOBHM was a combination of Punk and Metal, not Indie. Indie Rock came to be in the mid to late 80s.

It’s a bit of a stretch to describe Guns n Roses as the epitome of the Sunset Strip sound. That title is more appropriate for bands like Poison, Ratt and even Motley Crue. (Bands Kim Thayill described as sounding like “the Partridge Family with fuzzy guitars”). GnR were what killed off those bands.
Agree. GnR, while I can't say I'm a fan, were more just straightforward hard rock/heavy metal in the vain of Aerosmith. Aerosmith with a JCM 800 (Or Marshall Jubillee to be more accurate) amp as opposed to a Marshall superlead.

W.A.S.P. make any other glam metal bands their bitches
i would also vote for Motley Crue. Fwiw, the first album is still great. Pretty much everything that came after by every one of those glam bands sucked
Eric Brinkman Motley Crue's first 2 albums were great. And one thing that glam did very well were the guitar solos. There's a band called White Lion, their guitar player was amazing!
