Thank god I was lucky enough to have parents that were rebellious in their younger years. It is my opinion that the rebelliousness actually made them better parents to myself and my brother. Plus they gave me a good taste in music.
The problem with these stickers, R-ratings, Mature ratings, etc., is that they make it easier for young kids to decide what they want. Every time I was told "no, you're too young for that" I just wanted it more.
This mentality can also be seen in our legal drinking age, it entices young teens because they know they shouldn't, consequently we have alcohol abuse problems in teens and young adults, problems which European countries such as Germany (where you can drink beer and wine as young as 13) are seldom in comparison

"We're Not Gonna Take It" is violent?! "We'll fight the powers that be" "We're right, we're free, we'll fight, you'll see" Those are the least violent "violent" lyrics I've ever seen. Hell, the freaking national anthem is more violent than that song!
If only they had made that proclamation during the famous audience:“Listen, we know that our songs have violent lyrics, but have you started listening to the lyrics of our national anthem? It does not end by saying "Horray, we are free and everyone lived happily ever after, The end." ”
I could be wrong, but when the explicit lyric sticker came out, I heard the albums that had the sticker on it had enormous sales. Kids, especially teens, always find a way to rebel against their parents in some way. If you tell something is wrong, or in this case, not listen to certain type of music because it could be potentially harmful, of course they are going to do it.
Similarly, almost every band that was accused of having satanic lyrics or artwork got a boost in sales when accusations surfaced, so much so that bands would do stuff on purpose, leak it to the churchers and sit back and watch the $ roll in.
history repeats itself in music. for example: 1940s: “Why can’t these kids listen to our music that we listen to 20-30 years ago?” 1960s: “Elvis Presley and The Beatles are brainwashing our kids! Why can’t they listen to the great music of our time (1930s-1940s)? 1980s: “This rock music is satanic! It’s killing our kids! What happened to The Beatles and Elvis Presley?” 1990s-2010s: “Today’s music is hot garbage. Why can’t kids listen to the great music of the 70s-80s?” Why can’t we just enjoy music?
I am all for the existence of the Parental Advisory sticker as a means to let people more easily know if the album is suitable for younger children or people who are more sensitive to certain lyrical content but i do not think the music should have been pulled from stores. By all means have ratings, warnings, age stickers on albums/movies/tv shows/video games to let people know that there are elements of that product hat are not suitable for some people but do not force the artists to self censor
I remember getting a Marilyn Manson cd and i asked my dad why it had that sticker on it. He explained that it had explicit lyrics in it, regardless he still lets me listen to it my mom is OK with it.
As a young heavy metal fan living in Argentina in the 90s, we (or our parents) really never paid atention to this sticker or thought maybe it was something common to all albums haha

The problem with so many "evangelists" is that they are so intolerant of everyone that's not like them. I myself am a Southern Baptist, but I come from a relatively diverse church with Korean, Vietnamese, and Spanish services and a pastor from Ghana. I've been a devout Christian ever since I was old enough to understand the idea of going to heaven, and it's depressing to see so many of my fellow Christians have such shallow, artificial faith; for example, all these Southern Baptists turning out in 2016 to vote for a candidate who ran a fear- and hatemongering campaign. A plant is identified by its fruit, and these "evangelists" aren't evangelizing, they're turning people away.

Those are the least violent "violent" lyrics I've ever seen. Hell, the freaking national anthem is more violent than that song!

Gg allin was around this time and doesnt get any mention
If only they had made that proclamation during the famous audience:“Listen, we know that our songs have violent lyrics, but have you started listening to the lyrics of our national anthem? It does not end by saying "Horray, we are free and everyone lived happily ever after, The end." ”
I could be wrong, but when the explicit lyric sticker came out, I heard the albums that had the sticker on it had enormous sales. Kids, especially teens, always find a way to rebel against their parents in some way. I grew up playing violent games and watching horror/action movies because my mom knew what I was like and knew I wouldn’t act on it. She also explained early on that it wasn’t real. If your kid can’t understand it, or is unstable, just don’t buy them the thing. It’s so simple.
The whole gta thing comes to mind. It’s rated 18+. For adults. And the parents buy it knowing full well it’s 18+, and then they complain about it? It’s like going and buying drugs, taking them, and then complaining that it messed them up.
I had a convo with my dad like that when I was 12? Because they were about to get me Minecraft & dad warned me to always remember that it's just a game, that I don't have multiple lives, & jumping off of building is dumb & I shouldn't do it. Which is funny because it's bloody Minecraft & I've watched dad play CoD since I was around 4-5, & have always been allowed to watch him play 16+ games (my favourite still being Gothic 2 & Morrowind).
