Hi! Thinking about buying this. Can it handle games like Killer Instinct and Monster Hunter Iceborne on Steam?
I use this (with the 2070 Max Q) for my VR laptop. It's pretty darn good.
Good to hear!
Is the laptop still working well for VR? I am thinking of getting it also for VR
@@andyblake8768 Very good, actually. It plays Skyrim VR max quality settings without breaking a sweat. Just make sure you are getting a model running dual channel memory mode unless you plan to upgrade the memory yourself. Iohrading RAM on this laptop is not as trivial as most and requires a very steady hand and careful disassembly. Also, you'll need a thunderbolt to display port adapter.
how are the thermals? what temperatures do u get?
@@Qusai94 Tou need to undervolt the CPU a bit on some CPU intensive games (Assasins Creed Odessy, etc...) to prevent thermal throttling, but other than that, it's pretty great, actually. Never had any issues with my Oculus Rift S...

I have been asking MSI for an RTX GE75 for a while, but they sent me the 1070 one that I reviewed a few weeks ago 😁

I think the 18fps mode is due to the fact that when the battery is discharged, the voltage drops.

Such an underrated aspect of a laptop, also kind of ridiculous a 2500$ machine comes with big yellow circles on the display.

I have the previous series on this lineup (gs63, 15", i7 7gen, GTX 1060) i gotta say this is the best thing i get in a while, slim, capable to everything i throw at it and really light to carry around.
The problem is that i need to lower my cpu clock while gaming because it will thermal throttle eventhough there are OC option in the command centre. Also the cpu fan start ringing like hell on the first year because theres a problem on the motor of the blade which are usual problem that owner face while having this laptop.
TL:DR, slim laptop are fun to have but you need extra effort if you want the laptop to last long
You must know I reply to every new comment by now so of course I'll read it 😛 yeah that's a problem with most thin machines unfortunately, did undervolting help?

At 13:33 I saw you tested Battlefield 5 with RTX on. I REALLY want to play this game with RTX. But I have a question that’s been in my mind for a while now.
In the game, you can set the graphics to 1920x1080p Ultra settings. But there’s a separate setting which allows you to adjust the ray tracing quality. In your tests, did you change the quality of the ray tracing down to medium to get around 83.01 FPS? While having the rest set at ultra? I want to play the game at 1080p with a minimum of 60FPS with ultra graphics with the exception of ray tracing on at medium. And this of course would be with the RTX 2070 Max Q.
I have a desktop MSI gaming PC with an intel core i7 6700 processor, 16gb of ram running in dual channel, and an MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6gb Armor Edition. I was wondering if this laptop with an RTX 2070 Max Q could out perform or match the performance of my desktop since it isn’t the newest on the market.
I’m also in the 11th grade, and I use my surface pro 2017 a lot at school. So the larger battery life is the key part that really peaked my interest. I’m looking for a gaming laptop that has RTX graphics, but good battery life. And this seems to check all my needs off!
Anyway, thanks for reading this super long comment and taking the time to answer my questions. I just want to make sure that this would be the right Choice for me.
All I do is enable DXR and leave everything default, I didn't go in and change any RTX specific settings. I will note that in my personal opinion, RTX off with ultra settings looks better than RTX on medium. It's hard to compare results as laptop hardware is cut down, and PC hardware has unlimited power limit and less thermal restrictions, but the laptop specs will certainly be able to play any game well. For laptops with big batteries and also good specs, look at the Eluktronics MAG-15/Gigabyte Aero 15.
Jarrod'sTech Thanks! I’ll check them out
Just bought this laptop :D super excited

Year after year these laptops keep coming out, and even at such price premiums, the thermal throttling problems still persist, it baffles me that even though laptop CPUs are so much slower than their desktop versions, yet they run so hot.
Also, I have seen liquid cooling in 6 inch phones now a days, why can't they try it in laptops.
There's only so much they can do when Intel keeps cranking the clock speed without architecture improvements each generation.
Cuz then they would HAVE TO raise the price of the laptop to ridiculous prices. And liquid metal is not really proven to lower temperatures no more than 5-10 degrees. And it's not the gpu's that get REALLY FUCKING HOT its the CPU cuz it does most of the work. At least that's what I think. I could be wrong.
No throttling on the GX701, their cooling design really does work wonders. Just have to get used to the keyboard which I found no problems with at all. I had more trouble with the MSI GS75 due to clicking the track pad whenever I rested my hands on the home row keys.
I think it is not really oem's faults, its intel having hot chips. People also want thin and light which makes cooling even harder (for most people behemoths like the Area 51m is a desktop replacement not a laptop anymore).
@@TabalugaDragon 7700hq is 42% slower than 7700k
With the cpu limitations provided, do you reckon the i7-9750h version would be an advantage or disadvantage? Major concerns being cooling and throttling
Maybe an advantage in single core workloads, probably tiny bit better in some games, but for multicore I wouldn't expect much / any difference unless they've improved the 9th gen model in other ways.
IMHO MSi should really try to avoid putting all those stickers on the machine. I dont like the idea of a $2000+ computer with the possibility of 4 adhesive sticker marks that will eventually attract dirt and look like shit, or risk damaging the surface in attempt to completely rid the adhesive.
Not bad. Looking forward to seeing the Aero 17 with a 4k screen 🤤

@@JarrodsTech July would be awesome. I heard some say August so probably depends on regions. I have a feeling I won't be able to buy it at all in Malaysia. Might have to drive to Singapore

Does it support virtualization tech?
Amazing gaming laptop with thunderbolt 3 included... Hard to beat !!!
I have a question. Do you have to open the back of the laptop frequently to clean it, or do you not really need to do this on a laptop, compared to stationary pcs?
A bit late. I own this laptop (albeit the RTX 2070 model) and for over 2 years of mostly desktop usage (some travel here and there) there was very little dust buildup.
I got the 17inch 2070 Max, i7 version - Good graphics and all but i do notice a few performance dip - assume itd be the CPU for it. - Good review thanks that for that :)
Man, these are my dream specs...😍. I am currently using laptop w/ 5th gen U series i7 processor and AMD Radeon R7 M265 graphics which is a nightmare for gaming 😅.
Great Review btw. 👍

Awesome video, clean laptop very tempting. I just wish that it had a full sd card slot damn it! This is huge for us content creators I wish manufacturers would understand this :(
Blade Pro and Aero 15 have them
Yeah that's one of the key reasons I went with the Aero 😅
umm there's a type of "adaptor" out there.
Which allows your micro SD to transform into a normal SD card. Allowing you to use Micro SD for your phone (or other things). But at the same time, also use it for other devices that require SD cards.
Basically: what's smaller can be used in bigger situations.
But what's bigger will never be able to be used in smaller situations :)
How's it for doing everyday work? Good enough for both work and play?
Is the screen sharp or good for watching content?
Worked well, good specs and no problems. Screen looked good from what I recall, no issues outside of what I covered in the video with the bleed, though that sort of thing will always vary anyway.
Hi jarrod quality video as usual, would you recommend full 2070 laptops over the 2080 max-q ? what if the price of the laptop is the same?.i am under the impression that the 2070 will perform roughly the same but with higher tdp and thermals. another question is will raytracing be better on the 2080 maxq.
Thanks! Depends, in the limited data I've compared either seem to be ahead of the other in different games. I want to properly compare them but I need more data, as I've only tested the 2070 with 9750H and 2080 Max-Q with 8750H, so there is a CPU difference that prevents me doing a proper comparison.
I'm considering this laptop for a portable day trading platform. I will be running the thinkorswim program. Its lPC recommendations are: Intel corei7, 16GB RAM, 1G free HD space, and a dedicated video card. The kicker is that I will need to tether another screen to the machine.
Would this laptop support this? Thanks

I guess anything that accommodates a 17" laptop would be ok. I honestly have not compared many different cooling pads yet to really say, but I am in the middle of working on a comparison of 3 cooling pads/vacuum coolers/a simple stand with 10 different machines to see if it matters.

hi Mr Jarrod
what laptop have the best thermals ? for 1500$ i have already brought the acer predator Helios 300 and i love it i want another one for my sister
Jarrod, I wonder if you might be interested in investing and investigating if these thin and light laptop can work (safely and stably) with any light chargers with lower power for daily uses. The laptop doesn’t really need to be running at full power on the go but duration matters a lot. The weight of power brick is making the weight reduction of the laptop itself useless. Being able to carry a compatible charger with smaller footprint matters a lot to me. The asus gx502 has type c pd. That really helps a lot. Even if that doesn’t cover the power consumption but the total battery life can still be quite extended especially if you use you laptop on and off
Hmm could be interesting, I'd just need a lower wattage charger, don't currently have any here.
Jarrod'sTech I would be happy to search and get back to you in a day or two with options if you are interested. What matters the most is to have the roughly right voltage so nothing burns. Current is tied with the power. As long as the connectors are compatible, which is a regular barrel connector here, it should work from an electrical standpoint. Then it’s a matter of checking if neither charger nor pc entering any strange “protection” mode. As for testing, we might need to think of a different test methodology with what you normally do. And FYI, I own a gs65.

Any chance you can try and review the Asus Zephyrus G, would like to know how it compares to the Asus tuf and other 1660ti laptops.
Thanks! I've been trying to get it, and actually had an update today, there might be delays of 1-2 months unfortunately, so I'll have to wait :(
That's a disappointing to hear :(
After seeing a few reviews on the Zephyrus G I'm a little disappointed in the performance as it seems the GPU is bottlenecked by the CPU, as it is only 35w.
Also it would be interesting to see how the 1660ti Max Q in the Zephyrus G compares to other laptops with the full fat 1660ti as those laptops seem to have poor thermal performance.
Also reviewers are saying the screen is poor, however is it that noticeable.
Anyhow, I can wait for your review :), at the moment it's a little pricey for what it is and will wait for it to come down in price.
From what I've seen so far, it's the same price as the Helios 300 but lower CPU and GPU, so could be a good alternative.
That what I was thinking, the Helios 300 isn't available in the UK at the moment, so got some time to make a decision.
MSI has great laptops but I've seen so many bad reviews about its bad build quality and hinge problem. I can't decide between helios 300 and a msi one. Which one could u go for Jarrod?
I've never had any hinge issues myself, but I only use these for a couple of weeks so can't really comment on long term durability issues unfortunately. Helios 300 is seriously impressive, one of the best machines I've tested in a while. Not sure which MSI laptop you're talking about specifically, but for the price and how well it is overall the 300 is going to be hard to beat.
Ordered helios 300 after watching the full review. Can't thank you enough since u helped a lot with those great review videos.
I just got one the specs are insane 64 GB of ram and 2 tb of hard drive memory
Beast mode 💪
64GB of RAM? 32GB alone is overkill.
Peter Nelson is it bad
@@Anubis8315 No, not bad. Just not really good when 16GB is more than enough for most games. You're certainly future proof in that regard at least...
Thanks for your videos. The led behind the cover (Dragon MSI logo), is flashing?
I heard that the hinges are a bit "loose" and because of that the screen wobbles a bit, making it feel kind of flimsy.
What are your thoughts on that? Any bad experiences with the screen stability?
Great review as always btw!
Thanks! Seemed ok to me, but people are always complaining about MSI hinges, hard for me to really talk about as seems to be a long term durability issue which isn't really something I can discover when I only use it for a couple of weeks for the review unfortunately.
What is your pick between this and the new version of Aero 15/17?
I haven't used the new Aero yet, but I'd be leaning towards it based on what I saw at Computex, at least for what I use my laptop for (content creation) as it has the SD card slot + OLED option. Aero has traditionally been hot, so I'm hoping the new cooling improves that.
@@JarrodsTech Yea cooling is one concern. What if Im using it more on gaming will you still recommend me the aero 15? Looking forward to your new aero 15/17 thermal review.
The keyboard looks cool but i prefer only the key letters and numbers light up brightly, no key side light bleed. I hope it doesn't have facial recognition
Fair enough, no windows hello support as the camera needs IR
Hey Jarrod if you had a choice between the gs75 or the Asus gx701 for uni (I'm gonna be studying architecture).
Another question is the build quality of the gs75, is it really bad cuz all the other reviews I watched and read say it's pretty bad.
Cheers keep up the good work love yea vids :)
I think the GS75 has better battery life, can't recall but you can check in my GX701 review as I do the same tests as in this video so you can compare. Build quality of the GS75 seemed fine to me, all metal, not quite as solid as say the more expensive razer blade pro 17 though.
Hey Jarrod! I know this may add a bit of work to your reviews, but is it possible for you to start providing display calibration files for the laptops you review?
Maybe, I do save them, would just need to work out where to upload them or if I want to include them as part of Patreon or something like that in future. At the moment if people email me for a particular model and I have it I will provide it.
My charging adaptor is lost in luggage while traveling.... I wish to know the charger specification like brand of charger in original packing, wattage, ampere etc.?..thanks
which one you recommend gs75 vs gs65 vs mag 15 vs razer 15 vs y740 for student 80% studying, working 20% gaming, my priority is durability and battery life + 1660ti or more.... do you have any other recommendation thank you
Too many options, going in depth would take a long time to answer. I'd buy the mag.
How does this laptop compare with the Razer Blade Pro 17? I hear that the new razer blade pro comes with an option of a 4k 120hz screen which I believe is a rarity. I would really appreciate a comparison
You can check my review of the blade pro 17 and compare the results. I don't know if 4k 120hz is for sale yet, I saw it at Computex in June but haven't otherwise seen it yet. I'd like to do a dedicated comparison but I had both with different GPU/CPU so would want to get both the same to compare fairly.
MSi laptops are good, I have the GE63 Raider myself. Great review as always ;)
Good to hear! Thanks!
I’m using RTX 2080max q...What’s the maximum RAM and ROM upgrade?
Hello! I’m planning to buy a GS75 stealth GTX 1660 ti version. Do you think the display is good enough for video editing and color correction?
If it's the same as I had here, then yeah it should be decent for that.
Hi men,
Please help me with my decision in buying my first gaming laptop. Should I choose GS75 or Zephyrus S GX502 or Zephyrus M or Zephyrus S GX531. My main focus is esthetic, upgradeability, and cooling. Please help me
I'd get the GX502 personally.
You should make a video on how to undervolt or overclock a laptop
There are other RUclips channels that cover that bro just search it.
I've wanted to for the longest time, but honestly I just don't have time as I get sent so many machines to cover I have to focus all my time there. For undervolting though I highly suggest this guide: ruclips.net/video/yNt9L3BWOFo/видео.html
Hey mate what was the name of that laptop cooler you were using?
How much frames can it hit ?
Can you compare a laptop with and without Nvidia graphics drivers? I did notice different performace in my laptop
I'm not sure what you mean. If you uninstall the Nvidia drivers, it won't work - well actually Windows will automatically try to install an outdated version via Windows update to provide functionality.
@@JarrodsTech Oh i forgot about that, do you mind compare with previous graphics driver?
Just to see is there any difference
To be honest, I don't have time at the moment as I have 10 laptops here to work through so I need to prioritize those as they have to get sent back. Steve at Hardware Unboxed has compared new and old Nvidia drivers on the PC side in the past and saw no difference: ruclips.net/video/lY7_ujxbdNY/видео.html
What cooling pad did you use for this video?
This one: ruclips.net/video/Zx2EnUD-DoM/видео.html
Great video! I would like to ask you something. I'm not much of a gamer, but I am a draftsman for an engineering and architecture company. Also I am studying engineering myself. I use a lot of graphic demanding software such as: Revit, AutoCad, Sketch Up.
And I also use a few programming problems, and circuit design programs. Would this computer help in my work and college scenario?
Thank you for your time!
Thanks! I have no experience with those software suites myself, but purely in terms of CPU/GPU performance this laptop has well above average specs so probably fine.
Do I buy this or the new aero?? Please help dudes
james kagwe my dude I just bought this on Best Buy’s website. This same model minus 16 gigs of ram is 600 dollars off. Check it out
@@theroundsquare7942 don't downgrade like that xS
Which would you prefer to keep? I have the i7 9th gen 1GB ssd, rtx 2070, 16gb ram or the i7 8th gen 512gb ssd, rtx 2080, 32gb ram. Which would you prefer to keep as a gaming laptop running COD MW?
Minimal difference in CPU, the 2080 will give a bigger difference in games if you're actually playing at maximum settings to utilize it.
Hey Jarrod's Could you compare the msi gs75 with the mag 17 and max 17 ??
Don't think there's a MAG 17 yet, otherwise my numbers here are older now and I don't have the GS for fresh data collection so probably no dedicated comparison for the foreseeable future unfortunately, but you can check both my reviews for all info as I do basically the same tests which should be quite comparable.
I got the gs60 15 inch with a numpad on. And when i was looking for the gs65 they all don't got that, me is sad and now considering to go for a 17 inch one, what are the benefits vs the 15 inch one?
I haven't used the newer GS65 so harder to say how it compares, might have better cooling with more space but cannot confirm.
@@JarrodsTech aah okay, thanks for replying!
Will you be testing the new razer blade pro 17 2019???? It would be a life saver.....!!!!!! I want to by a good all over laptop my budget is 3000 £ and I don't know what to buy . I want something future proof. I was thinking on the razer blades.... But don't know now?!
Yes, it's here now.
@@JarrodsTech I have been waiting for it since computex....thank you so much for doing this valuable content on youtube
would you say is good to have as a main laptaop to trabel. like would it look wored?
Sure, personally I would prefer the gs65 as it's smaller and more portable
Could you do the MSI GF75 next? It now comes with the I7-9700H and the gtx1650 and I think it could actually give me a good run for the money, but I'm not sure.
I've already got the GP75, so we'll see what is available after that, hopefully!
