17:25 *_"this is a very difficult place to play for the Rams today, but the Rams feel they have an advantage playin' here today"_* 🙄🤔 ... *_gotta love the late, great George Allen_* 😂
I wonder how often Vin Scully cringed with Allen's remarks. Sometimes George was spot on but too often it was just coachspeak gibberish. Really seems odd watching NBC Sports icons like Scully (MLB Game of the Week), Curt Gowdy (MLB GOTW and NFL lead announcer) and Bob Costas (practically everything at NBC for three decades) working CBS games. Seems so odd.
I was an NBC guy in a NFC town. Hated!!!! Hated!!!!the blackout rules and missed games here in the DFW area. Blamed CBS/Cowboys/Tex for most of that. We also missed so many national and wonderful match ups on NBC because of this too. My family also had friends working the NBC Broadcast. That being said I enjoyed any broadcast we could get during that Era.
Next week's games include two of my all-time favorites - Oakland at Houston (the Tatum hit on Campbell) and New England at Denver (snow game). I know you have the radio call of the Houston game and a partial call of the Broncos game but I am hoping for more.
WOW, at 11:45:35 the blind referee is running right behind #64 who ran off the field then back on to make a tackle and didn't call the penalty, gheesh, these guys were horrible at their job even back then.
The Rams basically did the same thing in the NFC Championship game. At times, they had a dominating defense. That was a crazy season for the Rams franchise.
I know John Madden worked with different announcers for a couple of years before he was permanently paired with Pat Summerall, so who is he working with that day!? Sounds like Linsdey Nelson!
Funny how we associate different on air talents. Bob will always be the really young guy on CBS to me. Just like Don Crique being a CBS guy, and I still associate Jack Buck with NBC.
@@mediadugout2684 I was also surprised recently watching highlights from the Oakland Minnesota SB. It was an NBC game but Don Meredith was the color commentator. Then, I remembered he left ABC Monday Night Football for a few years in the mid 70s before being hired back for more money, which I assume was why he left
@@mhlaw229 Meredith got a few acting roles but ABC was reluctant to give him anything too good so NBC swooped in and hired Don away with the promise of better acting roles. I think NBC also figured this would hurt Monday Night Football and, honestly, nobody sparred with Cosell the same way Meredith did - not Alex Karras, not Fran Tarkenton, not O.J. Simpson.
Funny thing is I had never considered Lindsey a baseball guy. He was so versatile over the years. Considered studying under him in college. Always loved seeing him at the stadium.
Loved those days in the NFL. Nothing like it.
Football in the 70's was the heyday of the NFL. - 48:53 If they had instant replay back then, Branch would've had a touchdown here.

Ray Scott and Pat Summerall were must-listens. Their voices screamed "big game". #GOAT
I never realized that John Madden was doing games in 1979 I thought he started in 1980
Nobody did the NFL better than CBS in the 1960s-1980s. #GOAT

I’d have to say that I was/am a CBS fan myself.
These compilations are the best! Great work
Jimmy the Greek .The first person to talk people into betting on Football .Miss those hard hitting late hits on the Quarterback which were legal.

On this day we saw something happen that will never happen again. Rams held seahawks to minus 7 total yards.
Wow I did not know that if any team today would hold a team to something like that would be all over the news.
@@j.ahayward7245 ...damn , Seahawks were probably hung over .

@@mediadugout2684 ...if Seattle would of forfeit the game they would have had more yards ...this is madness ! ..lol.

It tells you at 04:20.
I didn't realize Garo Yepremian was in New Orleans!
Also a major news story unfolded that day (11/4/1979) was the start of an over 400 day hostage standoff with 52 Americans held hostage in Iran.
I remember that and I remember watching the Giants defeating the Cowboys at Giants Stadium that afternoon
These capsules of time all have little nuggets in them on all different levels. I love these general musings of life.
Shula walked off the field without shaking Bum’s hand??
No doubt he was disgusted but that was classless if that is what truly happened.
Bob Costas doing play by play for CBS in the Raiders 49ers game. I thought he was always with NBC
Costas was with CBS for a few years. This was his final year with the network, which didn't renew his contract. He started with NBC in 1980.

Madden just getting his broadcast career underway. Teamed with Mets announcer Lindsey Nelson??
