    1:58 tip about fast startup, if you shut down your pc with fast startup enabled, it will never actually fully power down which can cause issues for some people. restarting your pc or turning off the power supply switch on the back is the only way to do it with fast startup enabled. i'd personally recommend to keep it disabled, especially if you have an SSD.

    • @motoryzen
      @motoryzen 2 года назад +1

      adding to your point.ONE of those issues involved dual booting winturd and any Linux distro from the same storage drive.
      winturd doesn't " let go" of some or all the hardware be it a little or a lot ( which is A. why I never recommend dual booting, and b. always recommend people disable that bs along with secure boot.)

    Good information--thanks! I had the opposite problem on my Dell laptop (just over a year old--with an SSD)--it takes a very long time for it to shut down. After watching your video the only thing I changed was the fast startup and low and behold it seems to have fixed the slow shut down. I was going to ask for help with that but when I decided to time it, it shut down almost at the same time I hit the stop watch button. Thanks for that 🌟!

    Hi please can someone give me a little info?!
    I have bought newer computer recently, from a very old one using Legacy BIOS. This newer one of course has UEFI.
    However I see no way to access it. The screen starts out blank, then jumps to the Windows loading screen, and then seconds later, of course enters into Windows.
    No "Press F12 or Esc" options are given. I see no way to access the UEFI Bios or to be able to boot from a USB device should I need to.
    Does anyone know if these lack of options are due to Fast Boot being enabled, or if anything else could be the cause?

    So I have a new build, 4080 super, ryzen 7 7700x, 4 tb ssd and 2 tb sata ssd. I have disabled all programs I don't need at start up. I believe I've updated all drivers. But still get about a minute boot up times. What could be the problem? Something tells me it's probably the way I've installed windows and allocated partitions on main ssd could that be it? Or the sata drive that hot swamped from my old pc?

  • @williamnunez9609
    @williamnunez9609 Год назад

    on Win11 with Gigabyte z690 with both SATA and main SSD, connecting a 2 TB HDD for 2nd drive kills your time, and takes over a minute. disconnecting it, it takes 20 seconds. nobody has a solution to why connecting a drive that's just being used for storage, takes so long. One thing is pretty obvious, it's looking for something on the 2nd drive but it's empty. It's formatted in GPT, basic NTFS. it was MBR before that.

    Truth about SSD storage . SSDs do transfer data fast than a classic HHD . But SSDs have a vastly shorter life span . Sectors fail after so many writes.. I have HDDs that still have zero corrupted sectors that are 25 years old , and they still are working . I have worn out an SSD in just 3 years . I suppose that is why manufacturers want SSDs now , more sales later .

    • @motoryzen
      @motoryzen 2 года назад +1

      that shorter life deal is a thing of the past with says gen 2( and the first or second gen satq gen 3 Mushkin ssds)..

      @ImHeadshotSniper 2 года назад

      @@karagi101 it saves the windows boot session using the hibernation i believe since it must be enabled so that it can boot up quicker next time. but this means your pc never fully powers down, which after a long time can cause stability issues for some people. i believe power resets are pretty important for maintenance of computers in general

    • @karagi101

    • @ImHeadshotSniper
      @ImHeadshotSniper 2 года назад +1

      @@karagi101 short answer/too long didn't read: a fast startup session is vulnerable
      to become corrupted and require a full restart anyway, so leave it off
      for the best system stability.
      it will work so there's not really an "issue", but with that said, i have in fact had a major issue with fast startup, where the odd time i would boot it up, (i believe it was like a corrupted hibernation state from a long time of using fast startup and rebooting the same hibernation state over and over), it would take SUPER long to boot up, and when it did boot up, it was SO slow that the taskbar icons literally took a few minutes to load, as opposed it loading instantly with a regular startup.
      but if i remember correctly from reading some months ago, i think the idea is that SSD's are just so fast, that any performance boost to your pc from it saving the session is not worth the potential degradation from restoring the session.
      i don't think you really have to be concerned about degredation, but as i said, i have personally had the odd major issue with fast startup before, and haven't had any since i disabled it.
