    This from Microsoft: "The prefetch folder is a subfolder of the Windows system folder. The prefetch folder is self-maintaining, and there's no need to delete it or empty its contents. If you empty the folder, Windows and your programs will take longer to open the next time you turn on your computer."

  • @EricMySelf990
    @EricMySelf990 Год назад +8

    The 'prefetch' files literally exist to help apps load faster thus potentially speeding up your computer including startup. If you delete them, Windows will just make more of them. Why delete them? Your comp would probably slow down instead of speed up. As I understand it, they aren't 'junks' they are there for a purpose, so I'm confused by this video.

    • @EasyTechGeek
      @EasyTechGeek  Год назад +1

    It's not a good idea to empty prefetch. It actually slows down your computer until Windows reloads it. It would only make sense if your "C" drive is tiny, and needs the space.

    Great video easy to follow. I have question while deleting the temp files, a lot of files were not deleted. I know you said some files would be left, but there were a lot. Again thanks for the video.

      Those file may seem alot but i guess it wouldn't take much space. You can leave as it is. And do these steps once a month. That will be fine.

    I've been doing this for a while but I am too scared to click all the boxes because I don't know what the Files do and when I have done this like clearing the cache, I've lost all of my saved information for various website logins including passwords and usernames etc? how do we know which files to get rid of and which are required to not lose this type of information?

    None of these things will have any effect at all your PC's performance. As soon as you remove all that stuff, it'll just be back in a few days, if not sooner. To ACTUALLY speed up your PC, you need to control which applications are loading with windows, get rid of anything you don't use, and above all, change your slow mechanical hard drive to an SSD. and if you can, to an m.2 nvme drive. This is far away the best thing you can do for speed.

    You said it was easy, but you lost me on the first instruction: "Press windows key and "R" key at the same time. What in the world does that mean. This is the problem with computers. Terminology! Trying to use computers for a 74-year-old is like trying to catch a bus moving at 60 mph. It's not as easy as you say it is!!!

      Okay. Not quite sure what your point is, but I believe the proper definition for the future is any point in time after the current moment. So, in that respect we can never experience the future! @@Bcgizmo

      @justalogicalchristian If you're using a Windows PC, there should be a key on your keyboard with the Windows logo on it. Or it may say "Win" instead. It's usually the 2nd key on the bottom row.
