Thus far, this has been an awesome series. All the while I felt like I was in a college class with a professor. I'm learning a lot. Thank you!

these are some great videos thanks. ive wanted to pull my LS1 out and give it a overhaul because im cheap and find it hard to justify paying someone else to do something i could do. Im no ace mechanic, but i do know my way around tools. These videos help with guiding in such a way that it wouldnt be all too much of a difficult job. Looks fun

Big thanks to you for making this series! This is my first time doing internal engine work and your videos are giving me a ton more confidence. Definitely a lot of tips in here that I would've overlooked. Can't wait to get my turbo LS marauder back up and running

The "O Ring " debacle has been a pain in the ass for many who do not have the original O Ring . It's great you showed that . Also there are aftermarket upgrades for the pick-up tube that are better than original pertaining to sealing to the oil pump .

  • @privatedata665

Pumping a flat tappet lifter to fill it with oil was written into many many older GM service manuals and if memory serves , Oldsmobile had a fixture to accomplish the task . I agree with you 100% that it is not a needed step . I stopped doing this in the early '80s and never ever had an issue by not pumping them with oil .

Leave front and rear cover bolts lose. you can use the balancer to center the seal then tighten. i found it works just as good if not better then the tools

Mellings usually says to indicate the oil pump with 3 feller gauges I. Think .001 or .002 in. 3 spots

I’ve found a cheap steering wheel puller works great for pulling the old crank timing gear. And using the old gear and HB bolt to set the new one

These are the best video series I have seen.
I noticed that on the melling oil pump one of the splines has a groove in it. The OEM pump does not have that groove. Does that groove make a difference for the oil pressure in any way? We returned the pump due to one article I read saying don't use the pump due to the groove causing low oil pressure. I do see everyone using these pumps so they must be great.

Great vids, learning alot. I am new to this hobby. I have seen you do each step multiple times now after watching several videos, but I don't think you have ever shown us how to put in the valves and the springs on the cylinder head. How does that work?

Those cam specs sounded exactly like my stock LS6 cam. I’ve upgraded naturally 😂. BTR stage 4 NA cam, 234/248 at 50, .631/.617 lift with 1.7rr, 113 LSA.

I put cam in before rotating assembly.its easier and less chance of damage to the cam.

Nice job!! I see a lot off similarities between the LS blocks and the FE motors on the bottom end.. Is it true the LS heads can fit on a Windsor motor? Thanks!!!
Looking forward to the finishing of the 289 motor..

I just saw a video where the anti rotor tray failed, it was a cheapo and it wiped out the cam when the lifters started spinning. Buy good stuff it is worth the extra money.

Spirited there was no mention about aligning the oil pump. Seeing as you took time to check all the clearances of everything else. Is it not as important as others would make it?

Very nice videos I’m learning a lot from you..!! Just one question the oil pump don’t have to be shimmed in 2 or 3 places? I heard some guys that don’t do this have low oil pressure..

On the LS engines is there any of the head bolts that goes in to the coolant to where they have to have thread sealer on them as well as the ARP grease?

    • @Myvintageiron7512
      @Myvintageiron7512  3 года назад

No but you need to make dang sure there is no coolant in those holes because it can hydraulic and break the block get the ARP thread chaser
