Cant get enough of these "LS" rebuilds, you are one of my tech classes as it were, prepping for my own LQ9 SWAP out of my old 1 ton van (06 Escalade motor, van had 780K on it, 2nd motor) for a Camaro I look forward to completing. Thanks, when do we see part 2?
Man this video saved my butt. Watched it as I tore a part my LS1 out of my 99 z28. First ever engine build for me and this series of videos has helped me tremendously
I appreciate this video. I will be removing the 305 engine out of my 1980 Camaro and putting in an LS1. I always like your videos. you explain things really good. I know how to rebuild the LS1, but I still love watching your videos. I have already installed 3.08 gears on the rear end.
You are so awesome I really admire all your videos I just cannot stop watching you and learning from you and have a hitch want to give it a try I feel confident that I can do it
Loved this video! Thanks for making it. Do you know when you will have the rebuild? Would love to see your take on the finer points like what sealer you use and where and why, gasket recommendations, when to use studs or just bolts, tricks to align covers, etc... Again, thanks for making.
You kept calling the knock sensors oxygen sensors.........I've swapped my cam several times without pulling the sensor!!!......gr8 video, but I couldn't expect any less from you, when's part 2........these ls engines are like legos, fun to play with and easy to create with, gotta lovem. .....
Love the videos, I am learning a shit ton. My OCD is making me frustrated watching you have 10 things in your hands with nowhere to set them down and having to walk across the shop every time you remove something. We need some more organization and efficiency !! : )
Building an LS for the hell of it. I have a 5.3L aluminum block, LC9, going to grab a set of heads, intake and some other stuff from the bone yard and start my build. I hope to put it in my father in laws 76 vette.
I have yet to rebuild an engine (I've torn down a worn SB305 for fun, learning, and scrap) but this looks like its enjoyable and just as easy to do. I have the tools, just not the time or money- yet
just to throw this out their, you should always remove torqued bolts in the opposite way that you torqued them. when you torque, say the heads it causes stretch from the center out. So when you remove the bolts you want to relax that stretch from the outside in. (It's even more important in my old line of work in the aviation field)
Really great content! I’ve learned so much from your channel. But I was wondering if you can make a video on how you can get the most power out of a 350 tbi engine, thank you
I had a hell of a time finding a tool for the lower timing sprocket locally the last time I put a timing set on an LS, and had to improvise. I'd sure like to have the GM one.
I have actually decided not to do the BB S-10 I did the SB swap already on the black truck, It's going to take too much work and $$ to cage the entire truck for the BB, BUT I just bought a 1965 C10 shortbox step side that is replacing the S-10 project it will get the 427 instead and it's a way cooler truck
I am hoping to get into the LS/ vortec engines. The record for survival of a 6.0, is just over 1500 hp, for stock bottom end, I want to stay at 600-800 or so. Maybe go with forged pistons, better rods, decent heads, with a bit of heavy polishing, (no major porting,) stock I take, and cam, and turbo,
600-800 is cake with forced induction on the LS platform. Not sure what your application is, but you can reach those numbers with stock components (open the ring gaps). It is easier to reach with a cam swap though. Higher your base NA power level, the more your turbo multiplication adds.
@@ShainAndrews yeah I made it sound a little too easy to fuel systems what's going to cost the big bucks. Fuel pumps, injectors, large piping, boost reference fuel regulator. Number one reason why these engines don't live in adequate fuel delivery
As someone that has probably seen some abused LS1 engines, do you have an opinion on whether Oil Catch Cans make sense for them? I own a 1999 Corvette.

I heard the same thing. Maybe he was talking about from the first LS1 all the way up through the later Camaro and Corvette LT Motors. Or maybe I'm way off and look like an ass now. LOL. I grew up with small blocks now converting from small block to LS
Love the videos. Is there a way to buy that ls gm rebuilt tool kit you borrowed from a friend. I'm local to you and race and have friends looking for ls engine builders. Thanks!
Hey I know this is a little late but do you have any recommendations on a particular corvette ls1 rebuild kit. I love your videos but I am getting a lit of different opinions on the Corvette Forms and I thought you would know best. Thanks in advance Chris.
Hello. I'm in Phoenix. Trying to get LS block machining done. Would like to go with new factory main cap bolts and used gen 4 rods. But the machinist says using factory main cap bolts are a problem with balancing. Also he says factory rod bolts are a problem with balancing due to torque to yield. So is it just a matter of balancing with old bolts and final assembly with new bolts? Really wanted to avoid aftermarket fasteners
On my first LS rebuild, my engine builder did NOT replace the rear oil gallery plug. On the first start I'm waiting for the oil pressure to come up, which it did NOT!! i used an oil filter adapted oil pressure gauge, and nothing!! NO OIL PRESSURE!! Then I made a tool that let me spin the oil pump with the harm balancer off, NOTHING!! So, I called him and told him what's up and asked what he thought. His first question was "Did you install the oil gallery plug?" I said, "What's that?" LOL So he tells me and I told him he didn't give me the plug. He tells me, "Oh, I have it right here!" LMAO, Lesson learned!! I had the honor of removing the transmission, flywheel and rear cover to do the 30 SECOND INSTALL!!! Then, put it all back together.Needless to say, oil pressure popped right up on restart!! Good times, Good times!!! 😂🤣
Not an “oil gallery”--that would be an art studio full of pictures of oil. It’s an “oil galley”. Other than this common mistake I love your educational videos. Just finished my vortec and cam swap based on one of your earlier videos👍
I've searched for such a rebuild kit and no luck. Looks like you need to buy a new unit, as the internals wear and need replacing. Not like my old GM oil pump where I can upgrade to a taller gear set and increase volume, along w/ the heavier duty spring for pressure.
I have a 95 Camaro LT,1 engine and automatic. Is it hard to put an LS1 and a 6-speed stick shift in or is it a headache to convert from automatic to manual? I assume the LS1 is better than the LT1 engine or am I wrong
Do you have any advice on the potential problem that the Ls engines have with lifter failure. I'm in the process of building one and I want to do it right the first time. I have done some research and found that some people say that's it an oiling problem, some say it's an aggressive cam problem, some say it's just faulty equipment. What is your take on the issue
Just think of how many 1000s of people and shop just tear the motors down and never think to use the actual break down procedures for the simple things such as taking bolts out in a true reversing pattern. This is what separates the real deals of the pros.
@@arireid1245 Just look up LS cam swap and you'll find plenty of videos on the process. Basically you back off the rockers and pull the pushrods, rotate the engine at least 2 full turns and then you can pull the cam out.
