This is how probably 90% of us build ls engines. Definitely good video
That's the most anxiety I've had watching and engine assembly, good work.
😂
Good look my nigga. Ima use dat shit
@No Name Racecars how long did this motor survived? Just wondering for fun since I have sbe myself same pretty much set up as this but 6.0 iron
I built mine the same way. Cant wait to jam as much boost into it as i can
Same but great content
Best build I've actually seen in while.. To many serious video's out there.
I am soon to build my first ls. I bought an lh9 6.2 all aluminum out of a 2009 escalade, 125k, pulled the heads, very clean. I have watched many, many, many videos on home building and yours gave me more courage... TY
Love the parts washer! I have the same one.
I’m impressed you didn’t knock the bearings out
Thanks for the video. I am glad you made it. Merry Christmas.
Thanks for watching!
This is well put together. Glad you had this all planned out. Works better that way! Can’t wait to see more of this rippinnnnnn!!!
I love this video! Hahaha watch guys take days to put engines together...this guy does it in an hour!!!
because its a trash can motor.
If you listened this was filmed over a period of days
Great video....use to live up dear in da nort woods lol many a races at rockfalls....keep up the videos and the great work you put into what you do....MERRY CHRISTMAS 👍👍
Tell me you live somewhere warm now and it’s the best thing you ever did.
@@NoNameRacecars
Im down in south Texas now.... Floresville....little town just south of San Antonio...74* and blue skys
Love it man I build motors basically the same but just a little more aware I don't know about the stock rockers on that motor though but if it works it works 🤷
This is the greatest intro of any yt video that I've send
Awesome video
Hi just curious. In short block, new rings (gap) & bearings, and hand polish crank journals. Hand hone cylinders too? Then slap in cam and new timing chain set, oil pump and done?
Or just use add oil pump, timing set, and gap existing rings, rod bearings & main bearings? Thanks! Basically advice on LS short block prep on getting a junk yard motor, adding cam, Valve job, springs & seals on heads and putting in a muscle car for street & strip. Thanks! Bob
Great vid Jon, still don't know how you get anything done with those sausage fingers. Merry Christmas Jonny.
Well fo me it looks just fine!!
Like the way u roll
Greate and informative video. What connecting rods and crank shaft did you use on this build? LS 7 connecting rods?
Gangsta!! Impact go brrrrrtttt
I don't know who debates lifter tray orientation? The way you have it is correct. The bottom notches are for gen 4 blocks which have a raised piece that fits into the tray and thats the only way they can go in.
Awesome video keep it up. Can you make a video when you put it in the car especially how you have your hotside set up?
I usually skip that disaster, but I’ll do a video on it this time!
liberal use of the impact and rockers being tightened not on the base circle has my anxiety at 100. Was that oil pump shimmed?
Ya, so many people get their panties in a wad freaking out about torque to yield vs torque to angle. 25-50-75fps has worked on everything from 4.8L to wild hp 6.2L. Role with it, have fun and stop turning this stuff into work.
No torque wrench?
Lol I totally hear u on the valve covers lol
Man if "whatever send it " was a person. 💪
I use the same parts cleaner !
Where did you get that camaro? I'm pretty sure it was my friends sisters car in Santa fe NM about 30 years ago!
For the heads where the putting is just put some jbweld stuff on it or flex seal 😂
next build will be down and dirty....I like this. LOL
I hope you added Ring gap that's the most important part
Just what GM and 200k miles gives us
Hahaha awesome video.
Any spec's on that "lightly used" ZB cam? Curious to see what rpm this one pulls to.
243/245 613
Dude who got to Shim and calibrate the oil pump
link for the spring compressor tool?
What head studs you using arp like 400$ crazy
You don’t cap ur piston rings? Or no need
Where I get those valve covers
How long did it last
On your next engine. Get the short block to me in Texas I’ll gap the rings for you and set up your bearing clearances at only the cost of parts. 100-150
the humor is pretty funny...
Quick question bro what do u think about copper spray on the head gasket before u install
Never done it
I've seen this for 30 years the 1 part that was iffy that took out the engine. Lol. People never learn.
Cam specs
Crazy Canadian going in dry
Hey man what does the 107mm make on a SBE setup like this?
Furthest I’ve taken it is 1200 before running out of fuel system
@@NoNameRacecars Dam that's strong for the price lol
This shit is hilarious, fuck it I'm subscribing. lmao
Hilarious man... that parts washer is key lol.
So I’ve always heard to clean the threads out and make sure there’s no liquid in them because when you tighten them the liquid being compressed can bust the block or crack it. If you dip the studs in oil and stick em in there that’s putting liquid in the holes. I’m not saying your doing it wrong by any means but if I’ve heard that then I know you have to, I can tell by the way you cleaned em and blowed em out that’s why you did that. Most people assume water because when the heads come off water usually gets in the holes but oil will compress just as good as water will. What’s your opinion on that?
Dude, I have put head studs in (aluminum block) and literally pushed water out of the hole, put a shop rag to it to soke some up some and tightened the heads down. These things are very forgiving.
@stevenbland2736 ive seen ls blocks that have cracked from forcing a bolt into something that had coolant or water in the hole.
That camaro looks familiar
whoa.........almost had bug'd out eyes @ 3:30.... LMAOOO ! ! o.O
Fack. You build engines just like me. Subscribed!!!!
I wrote down each step with specific instructions based off of this video, minus the last 2.5 minutes, disregarding whatever was said there.
This combo work for you?
@@jonathanf1844 I was being facetious in my post
What are you gapping the rings to?
I don’t
How would this combo act on the streets ?
That’s a question I can’t personally answer. Other than a little lag, I’d imagine it would do fine
What head gaskets do your recommend for boost?
LS9
The most LS video I’ve seen lol
No lock tight on can bolts! Why risk an engine with an Amazon Lifter? The cam plate gasket is notorious for leaking! Always replace, every time!
Man I used to really enjoy your work. Did mama shut you down are you racing
RIP the valve lash
Big time
Stock rods and rod bolts ?
Yes
Yo what’s the best ls to turbo? 5.3 5.7 or 6.0???
5.3 / 6.0
Head studs can loosen on 2 ends vs a bolt. And you will have problems removing the heads when the engine is in the vehicle.
Scratch those bearings
So this build would make more than 1000 crank?
Ended up making 1220 on the Dyno
@@NoNameRacecars I’m saving money for this build and I wanted to know if a 06 Silverado l33 block would be good since they’re technically the same thing
Is the bottom end untouched? I assume yes?
Correct.
@@NoNameRacecars awesome!
Not suppose to touch head gasket with oil from fingers!
You're more Hood than Kimbo Slice!! Love it, but may not follow the build to the T.
Ole girl #3 wants to live lol
As long as I don’t do anything stupid...
Why did you stop making videos they were so damn good. Well I hope you are doing well
Those timing chain tensioners aren't even a tensioner it's more like an anti flailing device They do make a tensioner that works real good on the LS but you've got to drill and tap two holes but it's worth it because those chains are always loose
Meh. The LS3 comes with a tensioner OEM, but once they get opened up most guys remove them and replace with the dogbone guide. The OEM LS3 tensioner is part plastic and is prone to cracking and failing. It uses a steel flat spring which can sometimes work its way loose and destroy the engine.
Does ratcheting your rocker arm down like that give you any trouble later if not I’m definitely about to use that method
I haven’t had any trouble, but results may vary.
@@NoNameRacecars thank you my friend
The reason it isn't advised is because you are tightening the bolts while working against the valve springs if the lifter is on a raised cam lobe. This can cause the rocker bolts to strip out of the heads, especially if you are running a stiffer aftermarket spring. Best bet is to simply crank the engine over by hand to get off the open lobe for each rocker you are tightening.
Curious, did you gap the rings previously?
No sir
Oil pump should be filled with oil, not white grease! Lot of research on this and not good to use anything but oil!
RamJam LOL
I’ve heard the aluminum blocks are only good for “800”hp, you push them to 1200hp with no problems ?
Yes
Cap
Ring gap stock or opened up? I think I know the answer but just wondering. Thanks
Stock.
Thats what I wanted to hear
@@Still_slow If it has over 200k on it they are usually opened up enough on their own.
100%
Tech guy disregard the plate lol
Hi How are you 😀
Looks like a cracked retainer around 15 mins
We’re you wearing the spendy jeans again?
Yep. They’re done for now. After 1.5 years it’s time for new ones
Yeah that is a chain damper.. its not a tensioner or guide.
only thing I didn't like was he didn't shim his oil pump at all
Didn’t shim the oil pump😂😂
u better for high rpms i shimed my ls3 3thou.inner gear 6 thou out gear & i double pinned the crank while ur ther
His chain is loose
If youre a tech guy pretend like you didnt see it lmao
Next time use an LC9, LH6 Gen4 5.3 aluminum block, much stronger than L33 block. You’re welcome.
He scratched the cam bearing.
Please don’t be like Rainman Ray and half way do the job! Lol
easy to see why 3rd build... you are also wrong about running those studs in and down... when studs have the unthreaded lead, you can bottom those out.. Studs without the unthreaded lead, should not be bottomed.. Haphazard assy technique results in engine failures...
No actually its because he made 1200 whp and always pushes them to the limits and actual I'll bet money you both put together sbe motor snd his will make more power lol
Whts a dumpster LS 🤔
That's how I built my 5.3 blow thru..bad little motor
Oh no you didn't chim the oil pump lol take it back off lol do it right lol
He didn't use any tork specs on some of those bolts. Amature......
Keep seeing where Ls is cheapest most horse power thus the swap the world phenomenon. So where is the bargain, is it only 200 bucks for Ls cam? Is it even true? What is the bargain please!?
This is my kinda content
That cam is ruined guy. Your engine will fail.....
Hey kid use the proper cam installation tool.
Don’t use an L33 block, go with the Gen4 LH6,8 or LC9
Why?
Studs suck.
