Excellent video, Tommy. I just installed the Numeric SSK in my 718 Boxster GTS while swapping between your vid and the official one from Numeric. Your "pro tip" about the washer under the left rear corner came in super handy b/c mine was also rubbing. However, mine actually needed TWO small washers to shim it up enough! Anyway, this shifter is the real deal. Feels like a damn rifle bolt now!
Tommy, thank you for the clear step by step instructions. I just completed the install and and can say following your video while I did the work made it pretty easy. I didn’t thing that the just changing the shifter (without changing the cables to the transaxle) could make such a significant difference! No more sloppy shifter! I love it!
The linkage is shorter in the 991, not longer. The gearbox is in front on the engine in the 991. It's behind the engine in the 981. But it's a completely different gearbox. Which is why it feels different.
i found that the left rear clip of the shift boot needs to be trimmed as the numeric housing is slightly in the way. happend to two vehicles I have installed the shifter on.
Thanks for the video! Really considering getting for my 982 GTS 4.0. Quick question- any issues with shifting into reverse or any fear of missing a gear with the new shifter?
I traded my F80 M3 for a 991.2 Lava Orange GTS PDK last summer and even though I loved the M3, the 911 is truly next level and I have become completely obsessed. Yellow was the next color in line if this car hadn't worked out...beautiful on 911's IMO. If I move into a GT3 at some point (I will lol), definitely thinking yellow. Enjoy the car, and if you come up to a Nick Murray meet again, etc. (I missed last one cause it was pouring lol) I'll be sure to say hello
Thanks for another great Vid! Ok, now that you’ve installed both an OEM SSK and a Numeric, which do you prefer? For my ‘07 Boxster S, I’m debating between the two, but would add the FF SRS to the OEM, if I went that route.
I got the cable and the function first shift right kit for my 997.2 turbo that has the oem 997ssk.. if that leaves me wanting, I may end up going with this shifter
I wish it was that easy to change shifter on the M2 I am looking at the RTD motorsports shifter because they is no trimming required, I had an abarth 500 and installed a CAE short trow shifter and it was amazing and easy to install too,
Hi. What is a part name of original carrera T short shifter? I have 991.2 c2s and only part I found is either same shifter for all 991.2 or the gt4, but this one is supposed to have 6 instead of 7 gears
@@TommyLGarage so case - part you installed as short shifter is 981.424.010.20 - from gt4? no issue as from vin it is 991.424.010.00 the long installed in factory? sorry for bothering but Porsche is not helpfull in that :)
I think you mangled the metaphor (EDIT…simile; sorry Mr. Aimers)...you're confusing "pistol grip" (a la Dodge Challengers of old) with "rifle bolt". Otherwise stellar video! Might have to bite the bullet on one of these for my 996... (see what I did, there?).
doesn't it lean toward the front and not center like OEM? My friend has the whole bundle and we had to adjust the cables abit to center the shifter correctly.
Tommy L, love the content as always. however, the lighting you are using is causing lines in your video. noticed it in the install portion. maybe this was something that was mentioned in a previous comment so apologies if it has.
Got all interested in this video thinking I needed this but then realised the 991.1 Porsche Turbo S only has PDK. Sometimes I wish the car could switch between the two.

It does! Thanks!

Hhmm I added washers which helped too

That phone mount is awesome, much better than the rennline one. Thanks for the rec!
Happy to help! Did you end up buying it ?

Zero issues whatsoever. It is an amazing modification highly recommended.

Numeric all the way! SSK is just okay. This is on another level of feel.

@@yqtayI’d like to know the same!

Get the Auto Solutions SSK. It’s amazing!
You’re going to need those quick crispy shifts for your next mod! 😅
Jeff your a bad influence! 😂
Which mod?
Wow Tommy this is a super nice video, thank you! Outstanding job, like a pro I'd say!!! Very tempting...
Thanks! Do it. Worth every penny
Great video as always Tommy!

You’re right!! And nice metaphor hehe
Have You considered upgrading also shifter cables?
No. I drove a car with one set and there was just too much vibration getting in to the cabin
Excellent tutorial video as always!
Thank you!!
I did the same upgrade on my 981, felt like I was driving a whole new car.
Agreed. Totally unexpected result
doesn't it lean toward the front and not center like OEM? My friend has the whole bundle and we had to adjust the cables abit to center the shifter correctly.
No it sits straight. But can easily be adjusted with cables you’re right.
Hey Tommy, is your shifter the 1.5 or 2 mm spring size option?
2mm. 1.5 is oem and won’t feel different
Forget the links in the description for the tools, where did you get that jacket? It looks so cozy
Haha thanks. The North Face.
love the Owen Wilson joke, "wow"
Haha thanks

i just can see myself pulling all those trim pieces off without breaking something.
Looks maybe too short ?
Same length. My oem shifter is shorter because it’s out of a gt4
It’s length is adjustable

Luckily it’s my mother in law :)

and you wonder why cars nowadays explode into a million pieces under catastrophic failure during an accident...
What???
Looks like much more effort is required to get into gear. Not sure I’d like that.
Not at all.
