My dad called my mom (she was in Washington DC). She told him to take me to the hospital. By the time we we arrived, my appendix has exploded... Yep, sounds like what happened to me. The excruciating pain. The nonstop vomiting. At least he had his father to take him to the hospital. I had to drive myself to the ER, which was 20 minutes away. Had no idea what it was until they ran all the tests. CAT scan, MRI, blood work, urine sample. They did give me anti-nausea medicine (I puked all over the waiting room), so there was that relief. Then the doctor came in and told me (in his words) that I have appendicitis and "your appendix basically Chernobyl'ed inside you." He also informed me that I wasn't leaving the hospital until they removed it, so it was obviously serious. I remember waking up in the recovery room and immediately sobbing because I thought I had died. The nurse assigned to me deserves a promotion and raise for dealing with my emotional ass. At the time, I had nobody to call who lived nearby, so a friend drove 8 hours from South Carolina (I lived in Maryland at the time) to take care of me. The recovery was almost as bad. They cut through your abdominal wall, so you have no ab function for weeks, and you don't realize how much you use them until you can't. It was so bad that I had a fart build up for days to a painful point because I couldn't push it out. I tried laying in different positions and doing everything possible. It was a nightmare. When it finally vacated me, it smelled AWFUL (apparent side effect of the stool softeners they give you). The force practically launched me through my bedroom window out into the yard. Couldn't eat solid foods for a few days, but just like this guy, I've never been happier to have chicken broth and Jell-O. I now have a lovely little scar, but I wouldn't trade that for anything if it meant I didn't have to go through this process again!

This very much reminded me of what happened on a holiday trip with my mother abroad. As soon as we arrived, she was in so much agony and had high blood pressure. Had to ask hotel staff to get a doctor to come see her. Was sent to a local hospital where it turned out she had a Gallbladder infection. Ended up staying in the hospital for most of the trip, wasn't allowed to leave until the Gallbladder swelling had gone down. I remember feeling so scared and helpless watching her cry in pain. Turned out she had been wrongly diagnosed by her regular doctor before hand. She had the operation later after we came back from holiday and has recovered well. It was really a terrifying experience.

i was 10 years old when i had my appendix taken out. i was at my dads house and that’s when it started at first it just felt like a stomachache but i told my dad anyways. it was my last day there so i had about an hour to rest and hope that the pain would stop. it never did. the pain just increased and before i knew it i was in the car for 4 hours back to my moms. i was in excruciating pain and nobody knew what was wrong. about 10 minutes away from my moms i got sick. after that i kept getting sick so my mom rushed me to urgent care. when i got there i was told i needed an iv, i’m terrified of needles. my nurse was amazing though and comforted me the entire time. i ended up getting an ultrasound and that was probably the worst of it. there were pushing non my stomach and it just made the pain worse. about an hour or so after i was told i had appendicitis and needed an operation. i was extremely confused being only 10. surgery terrified me. i immediately started crying after i found out what was happening to me. i told my mom, “don’t let me die.” she promised it wouldn’t happen. going into surgery wasn’t that bad everyone was very comforting and loving. after surgery was another hard time. everyone was still in school at this time so i didn’t know if people knew what had happened to me. my throat was in extreme pain. and my stomach just felt off. i couldn’t quite explain it. but after about a week i was able to go home and after like 4 days i went back to school.

This video is so damn relatable.
The pain was once so unbearable for me that I had to call my parents during their anniversary to take me to the hospital. I was in pain at the hospital and I was kept there for two days and for one of the days, I wasn't given any food because they were still trying to find out if I needed surgery or not. I got so hungry, that I started to cry. I ended up not needing surgery but the pain never went away. To this day, I still ask my mother if I can have it taken out, but she says that the surgery is not necessary. My mum loves me and cares about me deeply, but everyone can agree that parents misunderstand sometimes.

I got up from my bed to make the phone call but I felt really dizzy. The next thing remember is finding myself fallen on the floor. Turns out I collapsed.. I couldn't stand up because of the horrible pain and I literally crawled to the phone and called the EMS. They took me to the hospital and had a surgery in 2 hours. Turns out the same thing in my stomach has exploded due infection. Lucky I got cured and now everything is okay.

they FINALLY operated me, but it was not over yet, 1 week later the wound just opened because of the bacteria that infected further, and it took the whole summer until that damn wound finally closed again, then 3 years later, they said they could operate me and make the scare nicer, and also could fix all the pain, but at the last moment, the doctors refused to operate me, im 11 now, (i was 6 years old when it happened) and i still have that ugly scar, and i still drag the pain with me, but im trying to fight against the pain....

I got my appendectomy at 12 years old. Lucky for me it occurred shortly after summer break had started. The day before the pain worsened felt like an ordinary side ache during a gymnastics lesson, but it was weird because it couldn't have been caused from recent eating or lack of breathing. The whole next day just felt like a weird stomach bug that wouldn't go away (frequent vomitting too), so my mom finally took me to the doctor late evening. From there I was referred to go to the emergency room where all kinds of examinations were done on me until my surgery.

You got lucky, when mine got removed I was at the edge of dying. Doctors couldn't find the reason why I was in such a bad shape. It took around 10 hoirs to find out that when I was last in the hospital it was torn open by infection. I was around 9 years old, felt terrible and was crying non-stop from the pain. Took me 2 weeks to recover (got a double lung infection short after mine operation).

I had my removed when I was 13. I didn't show any signs until mine was about burst. They had to do emergency surgery. I was mad because the stupid nurse I had could put an IV in. She poked me 10 times and bruised my arm. they had get the ambulance doctor to put the IV in my arm. He hit it the first time. After my surgery I was even more mad before the nurse wouldn't let me alone and I was hungry. I wasn't in pain though after I woke up and was taking to a room I jumped off the bed onto the other one. I wanted to go home but they wouldn't let me. I was fine. I was still angry about the hold thing because I was hungry and they wouldn't feed me. I was glad when I finally got to leave. It was a horrible day and night for me.

I was 10 years old, parents were out of town for a couple days (neighbors were watching us). It was the first time our parents had left us alone for more than a couple hours and they had left a note saying if anything happened they gave their permission for anything to be done to save or help us. I woke up with what I thought was a stomach ache which just got worse. My brother came home from practice and found me curled up on the floor in pain. He got the neighbors who got me to bed and a couple hours later took me to the hospital. The hospital diagnosed me with appendicitis but refused to do surgery because the not my parents left was not notarized. My brother was trying to remember relatives phone numbers (grandparents, uncles, etc.) when my pediatrician walked by, saw my brother, and asked him what was going on. My brother told him and after checking the test results he was going to order the operation done under his authority. About that same time my brother was able to get in touch with one of our uncles and he gave them permission. When my parents came home, the next day (this was long before cell phones), my brother told them I was in the hospital. I think I was 16 before my parents even considered leaving us home alone again for any length of time.
