When I was a child, I bought a CD of Beethoven's 4th Symphony because it was cheaper than the other ones. I still can't forget the feelings when I started to listen to the CD on a rainy day. Since then, this symphony has been my favorite one.

Certainly the most cerebral of the 9! I should think it’s quite difficult to play, perhaps that’s why it isn’t performed as much as the others. Don’t you think the video director has done an unusually good job in following the instruments as they play into the symphony ? And with an audience present as well! Must have taken a great deal of thought and preparation - with full co-operation of the orchestra !!

I really like his first symphony. I think it's the most well-rounded one followed by the 5th symphony. 8 is really great as well. My least favourite is probably the 6th symphony because it's too repetitive.

    • @johnfalstaff2270
      @johnfalstaff2270 3 года назад +3

Matter of personal taste. Generally, you cannot love everything. I love Beethoven, but still I need to admit that symphonies #1, #4 and #8 are not in my favor. Even if such a giants as Toscanini, Shell, Walter or Furtwangler are conducting. The same with Peter Tchaikovsky. I am not a fan of his first three symphonies, but all #4, #5, #6 to unnumbered Manfred are fantastic, with Manfred (under Toscanini) above the all.

oh I see a documentary where when he was severely depressed he wrote some ghastly music - the entire audience walked out lastly his Patron a Church Prelate, who said, upon leaving, "For sure you have gone deaf" - IMO he was venting the desperate mind set he was in, it was his Truth.......Art is truth. You cannot write happy music when miserable or miserable music when you're happy.

i feel that way too. Almost all of us are introduced to Beethoven with the 5th symphony, and we all expect his music to make you feel the way it does! And as you explored him more, you kind of feel like the 4th and 8th are not as good as the other symphonies! But in reality they are as good, and they can take to different places, according to how you are feeling, genius.

I've always focused on the 3'rd, 5'th, 6'th, 7'th, and 9'th. In a way it's forgivable since all of these are among the most beautiful and moving music ever written.
Yet this very night I have decided that when I do my sequence, I should give the 4'th and 8'th just as fair a hearing and no doubt I have only to gain from this!

The energetic and grand sweeping gestures of this young conductor's arms and the eloquence of his graceful, expressive hands beautifully convey the tender, sweet passages as well as the exolosions of boundless exhuberance of this symphony.

I have always said it about the HR woodwind section: no one is a big "star" like many players in the big German radio orchestras are. But what does it matter? This playing is nothing short of absolute world class, with a spirit no other orchestras have. Beethoven and his unmeasurable genius, Beethoven is one of the greatest composers of all time, some of the classics themselves need to make an effort to reach Beethoven's level.

Simply wonderful Symphony that has sadly had the misfortune of having the 3rd one side and the 5,6 &7th the other. Then the wonderful 8th is stuck between the 7th and 9th. Brilliantly played

Does this orchestra has the best sound engineers, or the best theater for audio?
Somehow their music sounds the best coming out of my little iPad speakers. There are so many great conductors, but this one is amazing!

I don't know if I am going to heaven, but if this is the melody I am going to hear there even without the Odes to Joy of the 9th and or
the Hymn of Thanksgiving of the 6th, I am going to be the best person I can be to deserve being considered to have a seat to hear this melody again in Heaven
