Rumi Forum commemorated Rumi`s "Night of the Union" with a live Sufi music performance by “Sufi Melody” and Sara Snyder`s “Seeking mental health through Rumi`s poetry” presentation on Sunday, December 17 at the Church of the Holy City (1611 16th Street NW, Washington, DC, 20009).
Sheb-i Arus (Night of the Union) marks the anniversary of Rumi’s passing on December 17, 1273. On this night, admirers of the great luminary worldwide engage in various spiritual practices and learning activities to honor his legacy.
The word “arus,” meaning “wedding,” symbolizes the union of the soul with the Divine upon death. Sheb-i Arus serves as a time for spiritual reflection, celebration, and a reaffirmation of the teachings and values espoused by Rumi.
This end-of-the-year social night celebrated this meaningful occasion with Rumi’s teachings and live Sufi music!
