Another great vid guys. Some incredible scenery on the rivers and amazing engineering on those locks. Nearly there to the Med!! Great stuff. Take care of yourselves!!
Hi Shotmegoo, thanks once again for the comment 👍 travelling through France has been a real eye opener not only the scenery but the amount of wildlife there is. Yep catching up now. Best wishes Lee and Karolina

Just caught up with ypur latest episode although your not having much luck with certain things going wrong im constantly impressed with how you overcome these things, credit to you both , see you in the next episodes ❤
@joannestrange4777 aww, thank you Jo, yes, things can get very annoying sometimes but we just have to carry on... 😅 xxx
We love your videos. It would be great to know what the speed of the Rhone current is running at . We’re planning to do the reverse trip from the Med up to the top of France. Safe travels.😄
Hi Nige and Donna, we chose to tavel at this time as the current would be a bit less than other times of year and also less boats around.
The absolute worst times are in spring after the snow melts in the Alps and flows down the Rhone Valley
If we were to do it again we would do it in late spring. But as you will be travelling in the opposite direction once you get passed Arles you will have less knotts against you.

Please run fans(12 volt) to move air to in your condensation trouble spots. Allow for an airspace (1 inch if possible) between any interior contents and a hull surface. The fans do not dryout anything, BUT prevent condensation (or near condensation water activity to support microbial growth) at the boundary layer interface between surfaces and air of different temperatures ata given relative humdity. Exhaust or air exchange when cooking.
Thanks for the comment and thanks for the tip Michael, we have a couple of small fans we could use. We're off to buy a fan heater tomorrow to use when in marinas. We will give it a try 👍
I do osuszania i do ogrzewania.
Pozdrawiam.
PS. Zalew Koronowski i Brda to jest to ! Moja żonka mieszkała nad Brdą ( bo chyba tam wypoczywaliscie )
Lyon looked fun but I think one night was enough. As for leaving the boat you do still have an on-duty boat guard, PJ. Although a nice bag of Dreamies would defeat any protection he provides. It was surprising how little protection there was from boat wakes while moored alongside. Almost seems like the ride would be better at anchor than moored. (just a little better) But I'm not sure how viable an anchoring option would be.
We thought Lyon would be a great place to visit for a weekend, if we weren't on a boat. Maybe the pirates gave Cap'n PJ Dreamies while they relieved us of our fishing rod lol
The quayside wall in Lyon was so long the wake just bounced of and into the next wave and prolonged the rocking motion.
Well I guess it quite so down at night 🫣
It does, thanks for the comment 8
And to think you could have just sailed around and had fun fending off Orcas. 🤐
Hi Martin, thanks for the comment 👍 our original plan was to go the long way round but we decided as we were going to do so much sailing (lol) when we reached the Med anyway, we may as well go via the canals as this would be completely different and we would leave the Orcas until we get a bigger faster boat 🤞
Another interesting episode, didn't think moving the boats would rock that much 😮 how do you sleep? 😅
Hi Cainman, as you guessed it quietens down at night 🌙
I can understand you not enjoying the Rhône. When we left Lyon for Port St Lois in 98 there was a yacht about 200 yards in front of us and it kept disappearing. There was a mistral blowing and I reckon there were 2 metre waves. We did the trip in a Moody 34 but our first boat was a Westerly Centaur. Happy days.
Nice boats Moodys, we were looking at buying a Centaur when the Berwick came up for sale. So far so good 👍 Are you still sailing?
This couple will eventually experience mistrial or Sirocco, as well as other rolly and wake anchorages. Gonna make that Rhone look like a creek.
@ Hopefully for you your story will end up different to ours. After 6 weeks we decided to turn round and head back home, it just wasn’t working out. Long story short we spent 12 years based at Seant Jean de Losne having taken the Moody back to the UK selling it and buying a Broom European. We had that for 5 years sold that and bought a Dutch Barge. Grandchildren arrived and that was the end of boating. that was in 2012. Since then we now still travel but in a moto home.
Keep up the good work with your blog, I really enjoy it. It brings back good memories.
@ we spent 4 days at navy services tied nose to the quay with a mistral blowing and we couldn’t get off the boat. Was not much fun at all.
@mikeharrison5089 we have experienced the Mistrals too, in fact we are expecting one on Friday gusting over 60 knotts. It seems they come and go at this time of year with a week of decent weather inbetween. It makes our progress slower than we would like 😊 We noticed as well the howling of the wind seems to m
Hi first time commenting
My wife and I also have a 31 ft sail boat and looking to sail down to the Med. I want to go by sea and my wife wants the French canals to avoid the Orca issues.
I must say watching your journey is fantastic and winning me over to go via the French canals. I do have a question, do you think it is worth saving money by carrying your mast and spars or on reflection would you get it transported ? ❤❤❤
Hi thanks for your comment. As for the mast issue to transport or not. If we done the French canals again, we would do the same and carry our mast with us. We had a quote of over 1500 euros and that changed our minds, that's a lot of mooring fees, fuel and food.
We especially asked for more mast to hang over the stern than pertryde at the bow when having our mast unstamped in Calais.
We only hit the side of the locks twice, one was due to inexperience when we moved to the front of the lock, stay towards the back there's a lot less wash. Also going into the locks behind the barges was a great help as they protect your boat as the water comes in.
The only thing we would do different is to leave our main halyard on the mast and remove the chain plates attached to the underside of the furler. Go for the ladders when the locks are going up and you'll be fine.
Going through France is an experience completely different to sailing which you'll do plenty of once you reach the Med. We had a great time, lots of memories and you will too. Good luck you won't regret it 👍
Any more questions get in touch, we'll be glad to help 🙂
Thank you for the reply very enlightening and agree at 1500 euros we will carry the mast.
great video guys sorry to hear that bad times. is it tidal or just low water there?
Cheers Rob, just a low level of water after the summer we think.
Karolina, what were you eating??
Looked like some kind of wrap 😊
@@cainman you could be right....
It was actually a slice of mushroom pizza! 🤩
@@gooddeedssailing nice! I love mushrooms! 😍
In the outro I saw sth hanging from the cabin top. Looked like a guitar gigbag. Is it?
@gertboerman3666 yes it is, well spotted! 😁
@@gooddeedssailing OK. As a player I will never go out sailing without my trusted Takamine. I have to ask.....who of you two plays, maybe both and what is in the bag?
@gertboerman3666 Lee is trying to learn a few tunes but his fingers are a bit too big 😅😂 any songs you would recommend?
@@gooddeedssailing Depends on what kind of music Lee wants to play. Is he planning to sing as well? Or you?
@@gertboerman3666hi Gert, we both might need to sing if youtube doesn't work. Any tips to start with?
