My favorite quote from this trilogy is "why do we fall, so that we may learn to pick ourselves up" as a kid who was pushed around a lot that one hit home.
For he it’s an obvious one “you either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become a villian” or something like that not seen the film in a minute
the death of celebrities has never really bothered me much. It's a part of life. Plus, I don't personally know the celebrities that've died. But, like Chris Farley, the death of Heath Ledger really hurt my heart 😪
just because someone doesn't personally know a celebrity or even met them in person doesn't mean a thing. some people take a celebrities passing hard because they had an impact on their lives in some way. like with Robin William's. he's brought countless people to tears from laughter throughout his career and that means something to some people. i hope it doesn't seem like i'm coming at you or anything. i don't mean too
I never really understood how great an actor Heath Ledger was until The Dark Knight. It's just so sad he didn't live to win his Oscar and won it posthumously.
Agreed 100% and also losing Phil Hartman was an absolute tragedy as well. Him and Chris Farley could have both done/still been doing phenomenal things beyond what they had already accomplished

Another fact about Christian Bale and Liam Neeson. They trained the ice scene at Slough Ice Rink. I know this because I used to skate there every weekend and one weekend (making a 2 hour journey to get there) found the ice rink closed with no warning. Staff as the rink said they were practicing on the ice, and some behind the scenes footage shows them training there. Then I walked 45min back to the bus station and 2 hour bus home gutted I couldn't skate lol.
Not sure if anyone mentioned, you forgot the ending scene in Dark Knight Rises. When they revealed the statue of batman everyone was seated around to form a smile. This was Christopher Nolan's tribute to Heath. Watch the overhead shot of that scene then pause it.
I love this trilogy. It’s my favorite set of Batman films as it focuses on Bruce Wayne and his journey as Batman, which hadn’t really been done before. I appreciate how different it is as you’re able to get sucked into the story and world that’s been created by Christopher Nolan and company. Christian Bale’s performance as Bruce Wayne/Batman is my favorite portrayal of the character as he really got the different versions of the character down to a T. The Batman persona where he unleashes his anger and pain onto criminals, the fake playboy Bruce Wayne that the city as a whole sees as an arrogant, self centered person that’s good at business and the real Bruce Wayne that people like Alfred and Fox see in all three films. Bale’s performance is one of the greatest I’ve seen on film. I think he should have been acknowledged by the Academy a time or two for his performance as how incredible he was in the trilogy, same with the trilogy not being acknowledged for top prizes for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for its final two installments, especially when The Dark Knight Rises didn’t get nominated for even technical awards, likely due to the shooting that happened in Aurora and how they probably weren’t interested in nominating a film that has such a tragedy attached to it. And regarding Heath Ledger as the Joker, it was never planned that the Joker would show up in more than one film as Nolan doesn’t really plan for sequels. Therefore, once we it was said that Heath Ledger died, Nolan made sure to never include the character in the third film at all, especially since he died during the editing of The Dark Knight and would have been more focused in getting that film done rather than plan for any future Batman film as again before only focuses on one film at a time and aims to make it the best film he can in the moment. And while it’s true he did think early on about doing a trilogy when he was writing Batman Begins, he quickly discarded that idea as he didn’t want to get ahead of himself and think he will defiantly get to make a trilogy. If he got to make a trilogy then great, but he wanted to focus on Batman Begins at that time. Same with The Dark Knight. Each film does have a bit of an open ending to them, but they’re made with a bit of a finality where if there’s no more to this series then we can be happy with what we got. He had an outline of a possible third film by December 2008, at which point the Joker being in the third film was out of the question. All that said, Nolan and everyone did an incredible job on these films, truly one of the best trilogies of all time.
Agreed bro, but I have heard that Nolan had one idea for the final movie TDKR which was to have the movie be centred around the trial of the joker! I am not sure if this was true, but maybe it was just that when Nolan decided to do the third movie was like man I really wish Heath were here so that we could do that! It might be something of that nature!
Really? That was one of the weakest 'facts' in this video. Toss up between that and "Jack gleeson was in Batman Begins". So what, so were like 83 other actors, but you didn't bother to mention them? I like how you mentioned that in TDKR, it's Batmans first appearance in daylight. One thing you should've mentioned as well is that in TDK, it's the first time Batman is ever shown leaving Gotham city (China).
that's part of what makes it such a cool scene. The tv thought he was safe from the police but the joker predicted that batman would catch him. Nobody believed the joker because he had never left Gotham so all the people in Hong Kong didn't worry because the batman was just this legend from the other side of the world, then he comes flying through the window and kidnaps their boss in less than 3 minutes
51: In the football scene there were many of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team including, Ben Roethlisberger and Heinz Ward. 52: The kicker for the opposing football team was Luke Ravenstahl, the mayor of Pittsburgh at the time.
Heath Ledger snatched joker out of my head. When I first saw the movie, that fact alone frightened me. His Joker is so beyond exactly what has been in my head since I was a child in the 60s
Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up. I've been saying this to my kids since I saw this movie... My son is now 15 and my daughter is 14 and they laughed the first time they watched the movie and realized that's where I got that bit of advice...but it stuck with them so parenting done right I guess 😂
I saw this movie 4 or 5 times in the week it released. I was obsessed with this movie (as so many were and still are) it changed me as a person. I thought this movie was the absolute pinnacle of film making. The hype surrounding Heath Ledger's performance was legendary. Everyone was talking about how Heath gave such a grand performance that it killed him. So right away the movie was already hyped. And when it released I was blown away. I had seen Batman Begins of course and thought it was very very good. Loved it a lot actually I loved the realism of it all. But then Dark Knight came out. And it changed everything. I can't believe how good this movie is. And of course Heath Ledger absolutely matched the hype and then exceeded it by a billion. I can't say enough just how good this movie is. I can say it a million times and it still wouldn't do it justice. I love this movie so much. Im so proud of Heath's performance it's unreal. The world was robbed of a amazing actor
12A actually means that kids under 12 can watch it if accompanied by an adult. That’s why the pencil scene caused so many complaints in the UK - because some parents brought their kids as young as 5, not expecting it to be as violent as it was. Fully on the parents if you ask me.
I always read that the 3rd one was about Hope, not Pain. And while Gordon is the last person Batman speaks to in all 3 films, Alfred is the last person Bruce interacts with in all 3 films.
You just can't say enough about Heaths Ledger's performance, no one will be able to come close. One quote we say a lot in my family, while looking for anything (another household member, car keys, t.v. remote, anything) with a deep-low voice is, "Where are they!!! Where ARE they!!!".
22:00 I mean he's not wrong, no move will ever quite be like Tim burton's batman. It's truely unique and has a complete different feeling to the dark knight. That being said I love that all the batman movies are so massively different, it allows you to enjoy each of the movies for what makes them unique.
Just found this channel and just had to mention how refreshing it is to watch fact-list-vids with almost entirely previously unknown info, instead of "top 15 things everybody fucking knows about thing". Good stuff
Definitely top 3 film ever for me! Dont know how many times i’ve watched the Dark Knight. The scene where the Joker put out his head out of the police car while sitting back drives me crazy, dont know why but those 3 seconds makes me feel weird and awesome. P.s.; its showed @20:07 🤪
Man just to think what would of been of heath ledger was still around to follow suit on sequels. Hands down best joker ever portrayed by heath ledger idgaf what people say! Rip heath you left us a masterpiece.
Fact 2 is incorrect. I worked on Batman Begins and knew the entire time it was in fact a Batman movie. Most films have a different title in production and pre production, but everyone knew it was a Batman film. Nolan couldn’t keep it a secret as he was extremely excited to do that project.
an Easter egg that was missed: during the stadium scene, which was filmed at the Pittsburgh Steelers stadium, the kicker for Rapid City had the name “Ravenstahl” on his jersey. Not only was it an allude to Luke Ravenstahl, the mayor of Pittsburgh, it was the actual mayor playing the part. quite the cameo
Honestly would have liked to see how Steve Carell would have done this, he's also a GREAT actor. HIs role in Foxcatcher was very good, had no idea he could do anything other than comedic acting.
I'd say the central theme in the dark knight is duality as it's the main focus on 3 main characters and even arguably 4 with Gordon. I'd also the dark knight rises is more about redemption or change.
The movies themselves are fantastically done, but they are far from a good representation of original Batman comics and cartoons in so many ways. Still, I enjoy watching them over and over again.
@@justinpeals2871 Totally agree, but that can be a double-edged sword if not executed right, which luckily Nolan kinda did. It could have also gone like Michael Bay's Ninja Turtle movies, which was terrible. I'm still waiting for someone to make the perfect movie about the best comic book hero ever.
@@nemanjav.7777 Agreed!!! But I was just replying to your original comment about TDK trilogy being different from the comics. I've watched alot of behind the scenes stuff about TDK trilogy over the years, and in one specific interview Nolan did, he explained he wanted it to be more realistic and done like it could actually happen in the real world, because it's never quite been done that way up til that point when Batman Begins came out!!! You are correct tho, he executed his vision perfectly, and you right about TMNT also, that shit was horrific!!! Lmao
Heath Ledger is the GOAT of Joker. I never thought that would happen when I went to see it I was like no way the guy from 10 things I hate about you and knights tale can be joker but after that bank scene I was sold
The idea that it might have been Robin Williams absolutely intrigues me. Williams had been drifting towards darker roles (he's brilliant in Insomnia). I'm missing the Robin Williams, "Joker" already.
You're incorrect about under 12s not being able to see the movie. In the UK the rating 12A actually means that children under 12 CAN watch the film when accompanied by an adult. From 1989 until 2002 there was a 12 rating and the 1st general release film to receive this rating was Tim Burton's Batman (that I watched aged 10 in the cinema 😂)
That makes the parent's outrage more understandable. My parents never had any issue with showing us intense movies as kids, but obviously there are countless parents that are very...protective about that sort of thing.
Christopher Nolan if you see this comment, I just wanted to let you know that I love you bro and I’m fucking thankful that you made the Dark Knight trilogy, it’s one of the best trilogy’s I know and it will always be the best so good on you man for making these movies cause there really good movies.
Props to Nolan for casting Heath. He was not who I envisioned would be a good fit for the role. I would have imagined him to be too young, too good looking and too low energy. But he did such a great job creating that character.
4:04 I always remembered that scene because I thought it was bullsh*t but didnt know for sure. I always remember learning, watching, reading, how your extremities are the first things to get frostbite like your fingers, toes even your nose. So hearing him say that in the movie I remember thinking about that forever like “how TF can that be true?” “That makes no sense, if anything I would think the exact opposite”. It also really bothered me for awhile and I remember looking it up and basically reading it was bullsh*t. However the scene still always bothered me even after because I didnt know if there was some truth to that or something Nolan knew or heard in his life because I know how detailed Nolan can get and why would you have this character who is supposed to be very wise especially with knowing things like that, say something so completely incorrect? Thank you for clarifying that!
YES . HEATH LEDGER AS THE JOKER IN THE DARK NIGHT WAS AWESOME, AND SO WAS DANIEL DAY LEWIS AS BILL THE BUTCHER IN GANGS OF NEW YORK . EASILY 2 OF THE BEST PERFORMANCES IN THE WORD EVER .
Heath Ledgers performance isn’t just the best villain ever portrayed in a movie. It’s the best live action performance of any character of all time. It’s absolute perfection
Had to hit the brakes early! Michael Caine has said in interviews how he was met at his house and presented with the script for Batman. He went on to say that he quickly understood he'd be the butler (Alfred) and how his character was of a man who acted as more of a father figure than a butler. No one can tell a Michael Caine story like Michael Caine so I suggest watching his interviews.
I think this is a great video, but I would recommend making a transition between if you do these often? For example, end one fact, then include a title card and audio of you saying something like "number 22". Thought this info may be helpful!
Living in Pittsburgh at the time, and being 4 miles from the stadium where they filmed the football game for Dark Knight Rises, they did the filming in August. As I was a local, I applied to be an extra in the movie and we were told to wear coats and all they gave people was a hot dog and a drink for the entire day. They never told anybody anything else about the filming and everything was a complete surprise and the crowd reactions are genuine when they did the explosions. Then when Tom Hardy came out, some people recognized him immediately and said his name.
There is not enough time in the day to talk about how perfect the dark knight is.
Yes there is... It's not. There you go.

And that was the point where I switched off
51: In the football scene there were many of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team including, Ben Roethlisberger and Heinz Ward. 52: The kicker for the opposing football team was Luke Ravenstahl, the mayor of Pittsburgh at the time.
Yea because the movie was filmed in Pittsburgh and also the stadium is heniz field
Heath Ledger snatched joker out of my head. When I first saw the movie, that fact alone frightened me. His Joker is so beyond exactly what has been in my head since I was a child in the 60s
The Batman and The Dark Knight are as close to perfect as you can get when bringing the caped crusader to the screen.
Damn! We could've had a Christopher Nolan movie with Jim Carey as Howard Hughes. 😢 I would have loved to seen that.
When my son started watching Quentin T movies he said, "Dad, you stole all your lines!" Yup.
In Batman Begins, the scenes in the poor parts of Gotham, the Narrows have a brown tinge to the camera to give a sense of how dirty and grimey it is
I saw this movie 4 or 5 times in the week it released.
It feels like a different time - Film roles taking actors to the edge; Bale losing weight, Ledger going psychotic.
12A actually means that kids under 12 can watch it if accompanied by an adult. That’s why the pencil scene caused so many complaints in the UK - because some parents brought their kids as young as 5, not expecting it to be as violent as it was. Fully on the parents if you ask me.
My fav of the trilogy is the dark night rises but the dark night holds a special place in my heart for me
I always read that the 3rd one was about Hope, not Pain. And while Gordon is the last person Batman speaks to in all 3 films, Alfred is the last person Bruce interacts with in all 3 films.
The dark knight is just out of this world
I love this video! Absolutely does justice to the subject matter!
.33) If Bruce Wayne shows up in a party wearing a mask, people would quickly start saying.. "hey Bruce, you look like Batman!"
Not just the greatest comic book movies, but some of the best movies ever made
Just found this channel and just had to mention how refreshing it is to watch fact-list-vids with almost entirely previously unknown info, instead of "top 15 things everybody fucking knows about thing".
This was just the best Easter eggs for an awesome trilogy of our time
That video was amazingly put together. Salute.
Man just to think what would of been of heath ledger was still around to follow suit on sequels. Hands down best joker ever portrayed by heath ledger idgaf what people say! Rip heath you left us a masterpiece.
My favorite Batman movies ever made…
Because Batman is totally its own genre now 😂
Inception is a top 5 forever. And absolutely loved his Batman trilogy
Heath SOLD IT !!! I was 100% bought into the Joker this time.....
No one ever will top ledger's joker absolutely perfectly epic
Fact 2 is incorrect. I worked on Batman Begins and knew the entire time it was in fact a Batman movie. Most films have a different title in production and pre production, but everyone knew it was a Batman film. Nolan couldn’t keep it a secret as he was extremely excited to do that project.
what was your job on BB?
I really enjoyed watching this!! Knew some but learned so much!
an Easter egg that was missed: during the stadium scene, which was filmed at the Pittsburgh Steelers stadium, the kicker for Rapid City had the name “Ravenstahl” on his jersey. Not only was it an allude to Luke Ravenstahl, the mayor of Pittsburgh, it was the actual mayor playing the part. quite the cameo
interesting lolz
The beginning of Nolan’s directing career is very humbling as almost all of his films are masterpieces
Heath Ledger didn't method act while playing the joker, many costars on the set have debunked this
Honestly would have liked to see how Steve Carell would have done this, he's also a GREAT actor. HIs role in Foxcatcher was very good, had no idea he could do anything other than comedic acting.
Leo as the Riddler would’ve been insane
yes. but how i hate companies trying to force creators to do their way.
That was the point, it was meant to be more realistic relative to all the other comic book movies!!!
Lmao
They aren't the original comics. Nobody cares about 1950 cartoon comics anymore. They are close to a lot of recent comics in tone.
Awesome video dude! This trilogy is beyond beautiful!
Thanks Nolan 💥Dark Knight was the one for me🙌
I'm a Marvel person but this trilogy is amazing. 💪
GlazgAw? Never heard that one before haha
13:20 the palindrome also uses the number 52 for a reason - number of cards in a deck.
I'm glad you included the Chelsea Smile reference, it's actually a real reference from the deathcore band "Chelsea Grin".
Same as America's PG-13 rating for movies.
That makes the parent's outrage more understandable. My parents never had any issue with showing us intense movies as kids, but obviously there are countless parents that are very...protective about that sort of thing.
Christopher Nolan if you see this comment, I just wanted to let you know that I love you bro and I’m fucking thankful that you made the Dark Knight trilogy, it’s one of the best trilogy’s I know and it will always be the best so good on you man for making these movies cause there really good movies.
glad they didn't go with the riddler. I feel like he would have been too similar to the joker. Bane was perfect.
Knowing this now would Ledger still be alive?
Great video, well done. These movies are too good.
Heath ledger is the greatest joker imo and it’s not close. When I think of the joker he’s what comes to mind first
Must be a baby, Jack was WAY BETTER, and Mark Hamill INVENTED the Joker, back to school little one.
Amazing.. Awesome... A delight for Batman Fans ❤️❤️ Thank you!!!!
Damn Bale really does put his body through hell to dedicate himself to the role. Respect. I remember him in the Machinist looking gaunt as fuck.
Props to Nolan for casting Heath. He was not who I envisioned would be a good fit for the role. I would have imagined him to be too young, too good looking and too low energy. But he did such a great job creating that character.
Dark Knight is one of the best movies EVER.. Heath joker is the greatest
Nope Jack was better.
@@milehighkid85 not in this universe
First, I really enjoyed the video. Next, Jack Nicholson is nuts. Tim Burton created a cartoon for the kiddies. Nolan made movies to remember.
"Warner Brothers" is a perfectly acceptable pronunciation.
HA!
It's called Hollywood.
And it is a Comic book story!
Credit where it’s due, the vast majority of these “50 things I didn’t know”, I genuinely didn’t, fair play.
YES . HEATH LEDGER AS THE JOKER IN THE DARK NIGHT WAS AWESOME, AND SO WAS DANIEL DAY LEWIS AS BILL THE BUTCHER IN GANGS OF NEW YORK . EASILY 2 OF THE BEST PERFORMANCES IN THE WORD EVER .
The dark knight is the best superhero film ever, you will never get a better villain than heath ledgers joker
Greatest trilogy
Thanks for making this
Heath Ledgers performance isn’t just the best villain ever portrayed in a movie. It’s the best live action performance of any character of all time. It’s absolute perfection
better than the recent villain The Mid-dler
That was really interesting. I was shocked that the two imax cameras destroyed put Nolan back by a million dollars
Heath Ledger I always thought made The Joker look like he was the most handsome man in a mental ward🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣
Heath 💛
I think this is a great video, but I would recommend making a transition between if you do these often? For example, end one fact, then include a title card and audio of you saying something like "number 22". Thought this info may be helpful!
Cillian Murphy is pronounced "Kill-e-an"
@5:20
No no no, Heat Ledger’s performance in the Dark Knight is THE best male performance in every movie ever made in my humble opinion.
Cillian's name is pronounced as Killian, not silly'un.
The pencil scene to this day still the most memorable scene of the Dark Knight for me.
Rip heath ❤️ the best joker ever
Nope, Jack and Mark Hamill make him look silly.
@@milehighkid85 lmao you wrong, i bet you also rank jared leto high up as well
Living in Pittsburgh at the time, and being 4 miles from the stadium where they filmed the football game for Dark Knight Rises, they did the filming in August.
The best part of this video was how he pronounced Glasgow
well made vids man. i do enjoy them 😊
Leonardo DiCaprio would make for an awesome riddler
Wat an amasing actor... You apricate his preformance even more, watching Hollywood last few years. Rip
