@@susanclark6437 My dog is one of the dogs Dede grooms at her own risk (Sammy). He is on doggy prozac, but still will bite during grooming. The vet has said that the sedation is hard on their hearts, and usage every 6 weeks or so is not recommended. The vet declined to give me the sedative. So thankful for Dede!
@@susanclark6437 I rescued a dog that was horribly matted. She could barely move because it was so thick and tight, and she could not poop or pee well. The only thing we could do was have the vet sedate her, and it still took over an hour to shave her, with 3 people working on her at once. The vet said it was fine for that specifically, but not every 6-8 weeks. So there's some special instances, but not as maintenance.
She need sum cbd oil to calm her dog I heard it safe 4 older dogs
CBD is a wonderful product. I've been giving it to my dog for years. It's helped with stress,anxiety and pain . I highly recommend it.

I know you were talking about dogs here. But something you said really hit home for me and I wanted to thank you for that. I recently quit my job and took early social security to move in with and care for my 89 year old mother with dementia. She doesn’t want to do a lot of things, like take baths and go to the eye doctor for glasses because she denies not being able to see. You said that when the dog gets old, we have to do things for them because it’s for their good and we want them to be comfortable. Thanks so much. That helped me a lot with Mom.

She's not abused. She is an 18-year-old dog. Dogs rarely make it to 18 years old if they're abused/neglected. As the owner said, the dog has some age-related issues. So I say kudos to her for making sure she gets groomed. She will be a much happier dog without the matting.
I woukd say it is Neglect. the hair, coat is one thing, but the fleas! Smh, that is neglect.
I agree the dog is not abused and 18 years old is quite old for a dog but to restrain the dog like this could give the dog a heart attack the stress alone is not good for it especially at that age.
Thank you for helping her get shaved and not turning the dog away, not too many dog groomers what to deal with shaving, you have a wonderful loving heart and I'm pretty sure the dog feels good.
Seeing her eyes I would say she is blind, can you imagine her terror 😢.
Luckily they also absorb the handlers energy.💗
Not necessarily. My senior dog’s eyes look exactly the same, and she’s 15. I thought it was signs of early blindness or cataracts but the vet assured us it was just a sign of age. Ended up being correct because our dog is definitely not blind.

Enjoyed the video. It's a sad reality. That comes with life. When you know your dog is getting older. It's the beginning of more health concerns. Just like seeing our parents get older. Glad, that you are there. For the senior dog. Senior dogs/as well as older humans need a little TLC. ❤️🐩🐾👏👏

I had a dog that fought like that and the vet gave me some Benadryl to give her before we went to the vet and it calmed her down a lot. It was just liquid Children's Benadryl
Don't do benadryl. You can, people will, but wow. Benadryl is a bandaid. The problem still exists and in my opinion it doesn't help. Benadryl is for allergies. Giving to a dog that is upset for grooming is like trying to make the dog sleep, might as well get a sedative from your local veterinarian.
Are they able to breathe well? Feel sorry for the little doggie! Would she not be better using a collar or muzzle?
She's not pushing on it, she's just holding her a little more still. She wouldn't be able to touch her if she only had a muzzle on without being held still. It's stressful, but it's the safest way.

Dede - perhaps a donation fund to help you defray the cost to the pet owners that can't afford the entire price of essentials like the flea medications? I do not know how much you would get in donations but it might help?
I cried watching this poor button having to have this level of care. You achieved so much with her. All of you must have been shattered at the end. You made a huge difference to her well being. Well done x

I know the poor little darling was under stress and quite grumpy, but those little noises she kept making were absolutely adorable!
That’s just terrible and the owner is lying. The groomer knows the owner is lying but just trying to get through the appointment. Thank God for all the groomers as they help care for our fur babies 😢💙💙
That dog made almost human sounds. Great effort Dede. It's so good seeing a patient, knowledgeable groomer taking on a really difficult dog and helping that dog feel so much better.
Poor girl, she doesn’t understand what’s going on. She moves really well for an eighteen year old dog. I hope they get those fleas under control. That can’t feel good or be healthy.
I understand the pet parents waiting to bring the dog in bc of the winter but if you know you have a difficult dog and a difficult groom then don’t wait till the hair gets long and matted. Sweaters make the mattes even worse btw. Dede you did an awesome job!

Is there a reason the pet's mom can't brush comb her dog? It takes 5 minutes a day. And use a once a month treatment for fleas?
I don't want to be disrespectful - I just don't understand.
The owner says she reacts the same to brushing as she does being shaved and it’s difficult to brush her, I would assume because the dog would need to be restrained just like this

I feel so bad for that little dog. shame on the owner for letting her dog go through all that pain because she let her go because it was winter.!! I am hurting along with that dog. Sorry Dee. People who can't take care of their pets shouldn't have any. Sad.
Being the owner of several senior shihtzus you cant blame the owner for neglect. It comes to a choice of how often you are going to stress the pet thru a groom. You do the best you can for the pet you love.
@@robinpinkham9398 Having her on flea meds would not cause her stress. Brushing her once in a while would probably feel good. Waiting a year to bring her in covered in fleas and matts is stressful and neglect.

A small weighted blanket might work for holding dogs down (like the x-ray thing)
Old doggies get dementia too. They get older and they can’t be sedated as well. They have done a super job.
My friend has a 17 yr old Havanese rescue. She has had some issues as well.
Not fair to call this neglect if groomers refuse to do them, and no shame to the groomer either, they don’t want to chance the old pup to pass due to stress on their poor old hearts.
Honest to god Dede i will never understand the people that come into your videos, and sit there to trash talk the absolute amazing work you do. They are not in your position, they dont know everything that goes on behind the scenes. Either watch the video or dont. Nothing is forcing them to sit here an watch these. So their negativity and downtalking your work is completely out of spite. Thank you for doing the dirty grungy hard work that many tend to turn away because its such a challenge or not in their ability to do. You're awesome!

This dog is scared and very stressed. It should see a vet for medication to help, not be made to sit still and cry the whole time.
The owner said because of her advanced age that the Vet won't put her to sleep anymore. So I doubt her would prescribe any kind of tranquilizers.

This dog is not abused. I have a 22 year old Chihuahua. She has age related issues. I bathe her. And then have to dry her. Older dogs just don't want to be messed with. They will bite, scratch, and fight in any way they can.
Torturing her? Dede, no! Of course not. Like the owner said, she is a senile dog. Older, and probably no longer realizing much what happens. It is all for the good of the dog, the entire process might not seem "nice", but it is just performing necessary tasks on a dog that isn't really "willing", or "able". Do we ignore our senior citizens, the ones with dementia, as well (like basic hygiene). Of course not! Well done Dede!

Why would they wait so long to have this dog groomed ? So sad to do that to her when she is that old. On top of that she has fleas . Poor girl. Dede you did real well with her.
Poor little baby, that has to be terrifying for her, she doesn't know what's going to happen when you lay her down and she hears that noise. It breaks my heart to hear that low cry. I know you wouldn't hurt them but it makes me cry to hear that. Poor little darlin. Would love to bring my girls to you they are 15 Maltese/poodles.

There are some garment/blankets that are used to sort of squeeze kids and adults that are autistic. Maybe something like that could be used for pets like this that you need held securely, like the x-ray vest you were talking about.

All I can think of is quality of life, and that doesn't look like a great quality of life. Nice job making her more comfortable Dede. You're probably one of the only groomers who can.
For the love of god...or dog... get a valium from the vet to calm her fears. That is torture for that old baby. Thank you for dealing with her. So sad to hear her crying. Hope she doesn't have a heart attack the next time.
Due to health or age it may not be safe to do so. And yes it’s never pleasant to hear yet it doesn’t always mean that they are in distress. They could be doing it because it’s what has worked in the past and they know if I do this they will stop.
This just really upset me.
That poor lil girls quality of life is not good. I know they love her,but if she were mine I would definitely think about euthanasia.
That is great that you were able to assist her with her dog. I just euthanized my Mia who was 15 years old-she had cancer. I will see her when its my time.
