    I am not a groomer, nor do I own any pets. I have no reason to watch your videos.... other than the fact that I love to watch you help these dogs by giving them a much needed hair cut. I’ve got to say I learned a little just by watching but to me it’s just interesting

I even have it on my resume, computer skills, typing, blowing on kazoo. Lol! Love you and David! Great video as always! Merry Christmas! ; )

      To be fair bichons hair is like Velcro. My bichon can visit the beach looking like a perfectly groomed show dog and leave with the worst matts ever just from a quick swim in the sea.
      A lot of bichon owners keep them on the lead and don’t allow them to have a full dogs life. I keep my bichon short these days so that she can enjoy the life she deserves.

    Awe so cute he is!! Great groom. And I understand about her being elderly and not being able to brush..my mom had a yorkie and I stepped up to help her with brushing and getting him groomed. Just because they aren't able to do it themselves shouldn't mean they don't get the companion of a dog..its just someone should step in to help her. Thumbs up for the daughter who helped..i have been caring for my mom for 15 years now 24/7 she has Parkinson's disease so I completely understand... amazing job, she handles the pup as it suppose to be. When I read comments like, she treats him so harsh or that she is mean to the dog, pleeeaaase. Do it your way and let´s see how successful you´ll be with your gentle approach, for sure not being of any help to the dogs that are problematic. She is really skilled and know what she does and you don´t know what you are talking about. Her approach helps the dog to understand that she is in control and she will not keep up with bad behavior.

    • @crazycatlady5034
      @crazycatlady5034 5 лет назад +2

      I’ve groomed dogs before and I was never this rough or angry with them. People need to remember there’s a fine line between being firm and being rough. These animals are scared, they’re not trying to be mean or to hurt you. They feel threatened and are acting in defense. So take some time before the groom to get them used to the sound, let them smell your equipment and yourself. Talk to them, soothe them. Let them know you aren’t there to hurt them. If you take 5 minutes with an animal just getting to know them and letting them get to know you and your equipment, they won’t be as scared and you don’t have to be so rough. But to each their own.

    • @LucerneInDerne
      @LucerneInDerne 5 лет назад +6

      The approach you talk about is brilliant! Having said that, it doesn´t work with every dog as much as we would like. There are dogs that will always hate groomer no matter what, and I´ve seen people picking up their pet unfinished, matted. At that point you as an owner need to decide and I´m glad she is willing to handle such a dog, for his own good.

      @@crazycatlady5034 you cant have respect from your dog if you dont discipline it and small breeds need it THE MOST....EXERCISE DISCIPLINE AND AFTER EFECTION OR REWARD. If people treat ADULT DOGS LIKE YOUR HUMAN CHILDREN IS WRONG FOR THE DOGS PERIOD......the rest is just wasted words

    Hi Dede. I really enjoyed this one. I liked how you had the camera pointing to the rear end (of the dog lol), when you did the sanitary and the side view for the sticky matted hair around his wee willy as you trimmed that area so beautifully.
    I sympathize with both you AND the dog when you did his feet! The nails were extremely long and I think within a month or two, the nails would have gone right into the soft pads! You did an excellent job on his first groom. Getting to know him and his ways was crucial to a safe grooming experience.for both of you! Best wishes to you and Dave for the Christmas Holidays and thank you so much for your service to your country!

He also does that licking thing whenever he is nervous about anything, but has never bitten our groomer. I am watching you clip the long nails of the Bichon mix. I wanted to tell you that I have toes that are short and stubby and they often will aim to the ground. Even though I have soft nails, it still really hurts and aches deeply into the ends of my toes until I get them clipped. • @crazycatlady5034
      @crazycatlady5034 5 лет назад +1

      Scandi Snowgirl the dog was scared. He wasn’t trying to dominate anything. I totally agree that she is too forceful and too rough. I’ve watched several of her videos and she yanks them around all over the place. The dog cried because she hurt him and she got angry. I understand she needs to protect herself, but she also needs to be more considerate of how scared these animals are. While I do appreciate that she is helping the animals in the end by getting rid of the terrible matting, I would never take my dogs to her, EVER. I’d rather a give my dog an uneven cut myself than take any of them to her. Being firm is one thing, being rough and angry is another.

    • @crazycatlady5034

      Spirit Song the dog wasn’t even aggressive. It was scared. If she had take literally just 5 minutes to talk to the dog and soothe it and get the dogs trust, it would have gone a lot smoother. But it doesn’t matter. She was harsh and aggressive even just moving the dog around.

Merry Christmas to you and David, have a Happy New Year!

    Dede - i have poodles and bichon and like to watch these .. but i also watch many others - i love your commentary ... without you would have to mime and that would be challenge holding a clipper or taking care of some of the nasty deeds you have to perform - i am a new groomer of my own pets ... have you ever considered specific tutorials ... lets say 5 beginners/5 intermediates and 5 advanced - i would pay for that !

    AMEN! The dog we just rescued was so not having his feet done. Took me 5 hours to just get all the Matts off . poor baby... I got it all off now I'm brushing it & combing daily & i just took charge & had to just shave it off & stop letting him pull . he kept pulling. I learned a lot from this video. Now I'm waiting for hair to grow some to even out but i feel i did pretty well for first time. & brushing & combing is def... Key to keep grinning easier... Thank you! ❤...

      You need a matt breaker - it's a comb with sharp edges which will cut through the matt and tangles - or a dematting rake. Look for coat king rakes (size 12?) too which will help thin the coat and take some of the undercoat out. Use a detangling spray before you start. Watch a couple of videos before you start using them - short, and gentle, don't overuse as they thin the coat a lot, never on skin and always with coat direction.

      If they won't stay in one place, you can get a grooming arm which clamps to a table or work surface so you can sit down to groom. I find doing little and often on the sofa the easiest if I can't manage a full groom. Plenty of rewards, and don't let them escape when they want to - it should be your decision.

    His nails were so long maybe that's why he was whimpering and didn't like being shaved there....I felt bad for him but you did a wonderful job noticing what the problem was....I'm pretty sure he felt so much better after wards....he looks so much better and feels good being trimmed.....I enjoy watching your videos everyday....teaching me quit alot....

    Thank you so much for your awesome comments! Been super excited to find this page. I'm working on learning how to train my dog Force free using positive reinforcement. There are million good tips that you provide. I especially appreciate the little back story comments at the end! I've been trying to get her gradually used to being groomed and was trying to decide if I should push myself and start clipping her or not yet and you convinced me to wait and learn a little more. Do you have videos on how to operate Clippers and how to do face?

    I just have to say that pets are just like children. They can't fill their food dishes or get water. They need to be clean just as u do. ( well some people). They're defenseless. U have to keep up their vet visits because they can't tell u if they are sick. Pets become our family. If u know u can't take of ur pet then don't get one or have kids. Set a time everyday to do maintenance on ur pet then they will get used to it. I have two cats. 1 long haired and 1 shortbhaired and I brush them 2x a week at the same time and they got used to it. Just love ur pets. Because one day u might a surprise knock and animal control will be standing on the ither side! Great job Dede!!! 🐱🐶🐱🐶🐱😘😀

    Wow that's what I dealt with today, poor mom can't keep up on her "show style " bichon. Was upsetting I basically had to do this exact thing to a dog normally well maintained. Course he was a angel for it, though Daisy did come in this week, so I got my pill dog in before christmas. Yay!

    This poor little guy didn’t ask to be so matted. Your doing a great job! He just looks scared and obviously it’s painful for him with the mats in his paws 😢
