    Owner should praise the dog more when she's being calm. That way she becomes aware that the good behavior is how she should act in that scenario.

    • @rebeccaconlon9743
      @rebeccaconlon9743 5 лет назад +57

      I doubt that the owner is that aware or assertive enough in recognising the behaviour she wants out of the dog to then praise the calm/good behaviour. Inexperience seems to be the cause of the dogs issues, as she likely pets the dog when they are spooked or panicked, rather than showing that there's nothing to be frightened of.

      That's what I think. My dog hates his ears being groomed. So matts get there pretty quick with his long Springer spaniel ears. But when we cut them he will snarl, but he gets easily distracted when we firmly say no and then say good boy and call his name regularly. He copes better the more we talk to him.

      That’s not always good. I have a shih Tzu who’s only issue is being shaved, and she does. Good till I praise her and she things were done and starts dreaming out when I continue. I’ve trained many dogs, when a dog is praised is key!

      Yes, the magic word here is POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT. That's the word of the day kids. You can work wonders and get an animal to do ANYTHING for positive reinforcement. It's the magic training tool every trainer should have.

    Good job on telling customers to bring dog and not get the dog groomed. Maybe he'll have a positive experience and start to realize that they are not being hurt. I'm a groomer as well. First in Phoenix, AZ and now in Southern Oklahoma and i am always educating people on their dogs behavior. Most doggies "act out" because they are frightened, not because they are aggressive. I feel that what we do is a form of art and i love it. It's very rewarding. I actually love grooming difficult or "aggressive" (afraid) dogs. I enjoy the challenge and i also feel a great sense of accomplishment.
    On top of bringing dog more often and trips without grooming, i usually also recommend getting something at home that vibrates (usually electric tooth brush, the back end, not the end that goes into your mouth) and slowly and gently get the dog used to hearing the sound at first and then being ok with feeling it. For a few minutes each day just have it turned on near the dog, and gradually work your way up to touching the dog with it. He'll start to feel more relaxed rather than defensive when using clippers.
    I enjoy building that trust with the pet and try to convey that to the pet parent, but not everybody understands why that's so important.
    Also i absolutely LOVE "The groomers helper". Great product that's helped me a lot .
    I also just recently purchased a dryer. Was really wanting a k9 II variable speed, but they are just so darn expensive.( Over $500)! I found a dryer that is just as good, but half the price. It's not marketed for Pet dryjng, but i want to find out how to get them into Ryans pet supply. IiIts a CAR dryer. About same specs as k9II but it's half the price! It has variable speed and it comes on wheels. Best purchase ever. And it's a lot quieter than any pet dryer i have come across. Over 300 cfm and 200mph at 88db.
    If you ever need any help or assistance, I'm just right over the border.

    DeeDee you are fantastic with Princess! What a remarkable difference with this second groom! I can't give you enough praise (I've watched both videos). I have noticed the physical encouragement you have given Princess. Shame on the owners for not giving praise when she behaved but they have improved too. I hope we see a third video to how she has continued to improve.

    I reallllllly commend mom. Being in this situation is so stressful. It’s hard to deceiver what is best when you see your pet this stressed but I’m glad to see mom so dedicated to get the grooming that her baby truly needs despite the struggles.

    It's clear the dog remembers from before and that she left the first time feeling better. She did so much better this time. I really need this groomer to trim my dogs nails

    I did like the idea of bringing the dog in....just to visit. When it isn't going to feel like a torture. Just friendly! Princess did SO much better, this time! Can tell the owner brushed her out more often. Great job done by all! ;D

      Trainers will also recommend that for vet visits if they normal aren't good for them.

    Wow! I'm worn out! No seriously I am! LOL This was intense! You did great and the parents are doing what needs to be done at home too. That helps! And Princess is coming along too! :) Progress!

    This dog is so cute after this groom, and you can really tell she loves her Mommy. I think they will all improve after each grooming.
