I love how she makes the owners work with her, because alot of people dont understand how hard grooming a agressive dog can be like and then complain about not having it done perfectly the way they wanted it...
I work at a grooming salon, and I think she did a great job, considering how difficult this dog was, she handled everything very professionally! You go girl! 👏👏👏
Ororo Munroe and training. This breed is supposed to be laid back and easy going, and has no innate aggression. It’s not in the breed DNA to be aggressive. This is 💯 the fault of the owner, through lack of training and socialization of this dog.
Love the part near the end “you bite me and we can’t be friends” an Joey stops moving and stays still with mouth closed as if to say “ fine, if you say so, I want to be friends I try and bite you next time.”
Amazing the time and patience she has for her dogs. Sitting on the floor until he calms down, not caring that the parents are there and properly showing the dog some discipline and training. It's so important for the dog and groomer to respect each other. Even the comment "no eye contact", never make eye contact with an aggressive dog. Amazing woman.
I have been a groomer for 26 years, have worked in vet clinics for 9 of those years. I have never in my career seen anything like your videos. It makes me very nervous on how you handle the animals. How you groom them, you seem scared that every dog is going to bite you. You show no kindness or comforting behaviours towards the animal. They need to feel safe and comfortable with you. You seem to treat them like objects. I just hope people watching your videos are aware that this is not how the majority of groomers operate. We love to care for and cuddle your pups and we work hard to get them through anything they are uncomfortable with. We want to be someone they trust and love to come and see. I too see a lot of aggressive dogs, and work hard to gain their trust and make them confident in the situation and not scared and aggressive.
I totally agree, I don't like that her first instinct is to always add another restraint to the animal the second that the show a hint of a bad behavior. the poor dog in the video looks terrified. even when she was on the floor with the dog, she was very harsh and disrespectful towards the dog. Sure you want to be firm and direct when speaking to the animal, but she just takes it way to far and Is more or less yelling orders at the scared dog. she doesn't give him anything for positive behavior except the occasional "good boy" She doesn't even reward them with treats or anything. The animal is only ever going to trust the groomer if they show love and respect to the animal. I would never bring any animal to her ever.
Dede, I hope you see this comment. I notice that you are often good with the aggressive dogs once the pet parent leaves, but you don't do well until you stop shouting and calm down. Then your natural ability shines. Re-watch yourself and notice the change at 1:19. That's when your energy changed and the dog responded well, wagging its tail and coming to you. You breathed out, you were already sitting. I felt you sort of give in/accept the situation and you seemed to tune into the dog. All that "sit, sit. sit" stuff ramps up your stress level and agitates the dog. I have seen it in your other videos. You were starting to calm down when you decided to cross your legs and sit, but it wasn't that sitting that did it. It was your attitude change. I have learnt from a professional dog trainer to use a slip lead, high up on the dogs neck, to direct them. Ask the worried parent to take off their lead/harness/contraption, and put the slip lead on for you. Then pass you the lead, so the dog can see you receive the lead- then it knows the owner has transferred the possession to you for the moment. Let the dog smell you. Say a greeting that calms you, like "I'm gonna clean you, make you feel more comfortable, and free you from all that matted hair. Come with me", and then march with the dog, right off into the grooming room, away from the pet parent's fear and worry. Talk to the dog, calm them, and I reckon you'll be fine with 99% of these "aggressive dogs."
Dena F very good constructive criticism and advice. Wish others could see Dede means well but she’s human and not perfect and people don’t have to verbally abuse her and criticize her and exaggerate. You made your point in a caring fashion and offered good advice.
Totally agree. I think she gets nervous a little herself being on camera and all, understandably but this dog was just fearful and not socialized. You're only shutting them down by yelling sit over and over, they're not understanding and maybe don't even know what sit is sometimes lol. Just take a breath and go a little slow, pet parents need to work at home before this is ever an issue too.
A very well thought-out comment. I have worked with different breeds & temperaments of dogs and so much of it has to do with confidence with the dog. More positivity. My concern was a bit with telling the owners what to do in an agressive tone. I mean, I would listen to more of what she was saying if she were my vet and/or a pet behavioralist. I believe it would have been constructive to say "consider working with a behavioralist" instead of bossing/shaming an owner. I didn't like the anxious "sit! Sit!SIT!". Even with my children, I know if I want them to do something, I couple it with a positive tone. If I want them to STOP a behavior, that is the more intense tone. So, that tone would be more of when I want him to "Stay!" Or "Leave it" Does that make sense? I believe more in the Victoria Stilwell than the Ceasar Milano approach.
1. Pulling the dog out of frame is never going to help. 2. Yelling sit or anything won’t help Bc it will tell him that the danger is real. 3. Pulling up or on the leash at all is scaring him more and he is not going to calm down. 4. That dog is scared. Not mean. You have to approach him as a scared dog. Not a mean Dog. 5. If a dog is genuinely mean all you have to do is give them a treat when they are quiet and he will learn really fast. Smart dog. 6. Again. This is not aggression. It’s fear. I’d be scared if I was sent to a new place that had so many smells I was feeling sensory overload like these dogs do and forced to go to a random person who was yanking on me and yelling at me. Give positive reinforcement. Not just yelling or yanking when he’s not doing what u want. Positive reinforcement is proven to work really well.
Well said. She came at him so aggressively. That seems like a really bad first impression to make with a scared or mean dog that you are trying to befriend. I'm actually surprised that this dog didn't snap on her when she started trying to lasso him while hovering overhead and yelling SIT at him. The way he sat with his back to her was very telling.
I am a groomer I am here to groom not give dog treats. I am also not here to have a limb amputated if a dog bites, barks/bucks like that that is aggressive. Still love your channel and seeing how you groom. I didn’t dislike this video either. Let’s remember criticism can be constructive and be grateful for those more knowledgeable than us in a particular area who share their insights. If I didn’t like you or your work I wouldn’t watch. I watch to learn more and give advise when I feel I can or should. No need to come at people who are trying to help you. It’s dangerous when people refuse constructive criticism. Social media takes the people out of communication so hopefully this will clarify that I am giving CONSTRUCTIVE criticism from one person in animal care to another. Idk how you deal with those owners who flat out abuse their pets. It’s hard to see but im glad you are there to give the pets relief and some much needed care.
I had to laugh! You sat down on the floor and told him to sit,he sat with his back to you. Reminded me of a petulant child! You may have control, but I don't have to like you. Just glad to see how careful you are, for yourself and the dogs. Thank you for sharing your videos.
I stumbled across your channel last night. I have been binge-watching ever since. You do a fantastic job all considering all the challenges. Thank you!
@@malloryconaway4366 Dede doesn't know what she's doing??No groomer would do this moron of a dog without sedation!! U ever groomed& been bitten!!? She takes dogs been turned away. Ppl are at fault for getting dogs can't properly care for.
Your patience is beyond what most people have. I would love to see at least one person who comments that they know it all and that everything you do is wrong step up and try to do this.
I know this video is old, but I have one thought. Saying a dog’s name is a reward. If they are acting up, you say a command and then say the name of the dog to praise him when he follows it. Saying the dog’s name while he is disobeying rewards the disobedience.
Okay...when I first started watching this I thought what a horrible little dog and breed as time went on and dad walked in I could instantly see that this little chap rules the roost, don't know how old he is but he definitely needs re training and so do mum and dad,he actually looks to hard for them to handle.well done you Dede, frankly I would have sent him on his way......
Paul Robertson mostly dogs that are angry or badly behaved it is the owners fault because they have no idea how to be in control. The dog needs boundaries like children.
Wow, that was indeed a workout. Your are so brave and an incredible groomer x I always stay with my 2 dogs when they go to the groomers, I help tidy up my dogs fur and anything else the groomer wants help with. Like one of my dogs hates scissors, won't have them near her at all. Xx
You always find a way to groom a dog that seems to be ungroomable, if that's a word. I enjoy watching you figure out the unique challenges that come with each dog.
good that you are training an unbehaved dog and good you learn his/her body language. you are an experienced groomer and the dogs mommy should polish them up like prepare them
Very professional and careful but I got very nervous after he was bucking around and tossing his head around with the two leashes around his neck...he sounded like he really hurt his throat. When he was panting he did not sound good. Then it seemed better after the bath. Not an easy job for sure!!
It may sound crazy but when I have a dog that I know may bite, I also put on the Elizabethian collar and out comes my left hand woollen mitten! Just the one, so my right hand is free to use the clipper and scissors. This means especially when I’m scissoring the head and face I’m safe to handle the dog with my protected hand. If they go to bite - and its happened, the chance of injury is a lot less. The things we do....but still the best job ever! :)
Some people may take her way of saying NO! and SIT! Like the way she did, is yelling at the dog but I take it as being assertive. Saying no in a soft toned voice isn't always going to help. Obviously, the owners arent really being assertive with joey and it seems to me that joey is the alpha in the house. They also didn't take joey to the groomers enough at a young age to get him comfortable with other people touching his paws, butt and face. If the would have, the owners wouldn't be in this position. EVERYTHING starts at a young age! Also good tip, Never ever give an aggressive dog a treat, its like rewarding him or her for their bad behavior. Ps. I know the dog was scared, but you still have to be assertive when ANY dog is trying to bite you. So question, if your scared dog tries to bite you, your kid, someone else's kid, or someone you dont know are you going to, A) say no in a soft, sweet voice OR B) put your foot down and in a assertive voice say NO! ?
When bathing a dogs and rinsing the face be careful spraying too much water in the face especially when he's panting. Just one drop of water can go to his lung and create health issues. What you do is hold the snout lift head up then rinse. It's ok to rinse the eyes and always be calm. Rub his chest in circles until he's calm.
DeeDee looks like you’ve. Been. To the groomer yourself? I really like your hair cut looks good on you. Big improvement over the way you wore it before . Good job,,!
Yelling at a dog is not training a dog... please research correct dog training methods. Victoria Stillwell from "its me or the dog" teaches good dog training in their videos and explains why yelling is one of the worst things to do. Your comment about no eye contact was correct, though!
I really like your videos even tho i’m not sharing your opinion in many facts, especially shaving a double coated dog breed but with all respect, i have to say thats not training what you do ! You have definitely no idea of the dog language! It would be easier for both of you if you would understand the dogs body language and please stop screaming commands to the dog on and on ! Especially if he is already doing it ! And please no leash behind the dogs ears !! There are so many nerves that you could easily damage with pulling the leash up there ! It could cause a lot of pain and stress ! The dog only behaves on this leash because of the pain !! And one little extra tipp - calm down you are also making the dog nervous if you are!
I agree 100%. I do have respect for Dede and I know that all groomers don't do the same thing, and I absolutely think she is doing her best, but I think yelling commands like that and shaving double coated dogs is just wrong. But what do I know, I'm not a professional.
Mrs. Dede is doing the best she can. for my experience in anamales some just think they are boss. and are down right stubborn. you have to be Stern yet loving.
Traveling Adventures With Dan The constant shouting and stop start nature of her work is irritating and will only add to a nervous dog being more nervous.
You really can't fault Dede for this dog's behavior since the owner is ultimately responsible, but this poor thing was receiving lots of conflicting commands which simply added do its anxiety..."Look at Daddy! No! No! Look at Daddy! No! Stop! Sit! No!" Most of the time, commands being screamed at the dog are just the human's way of letting off steam in the heat of the moment and add no benefit to the dog's situation and often just make things worse for all parties involved. Honestly, I feel like positive, calming commands like "Good boy!" are not used enough.
What a little handful. So surprised that you got that hair from his mouth without cutting him, he was moving around so fast. That pup NEEDS to lose weight badly. I get it, I have a fat Chihuahua too. Thawed frozen green beans are excellent treats and additives to food for weight loss. Or NO SALT canned green beans. Other vegetables too.
Yes, green beans are what the vet I worked for recommended for weight loss. Also, check the calories on their food (some brands do list calories-Hills does). Sometimes you can change food instead of or in addition to feeding less food.
I agree, I give my Golden Retriever frozen green beans and carrots for treats, also apples are good for dogs (in moderation though, cause fruit sugar). I have also done frozen watermelon for hot days as it's mostly water. I really had to change brands of food for him in order to get down his calories enough to where he is steadily losing weight. I hated to do it because he loved his kibble but it's been so worth it to see the improvement in his overall health. He's lost 10 lbs that I know of, and maybe more now as it's been a few weeks since the last vet appt. I'll weigh him again at the Petco today when we go and see how he's doing. I can tell just by the way he's running around playing in the backyard that he's feeling better. And he's not even at goal weight yet!
Yes! I try to stay on top of my dog's weight but she still manages to get the upper hand on me. And YES on small amount of fruit. I think there is a huge misconception that more fruit is more better (sic). Not true.
She’s a very nice groomer, VERY nice, all about technique and she has it! but there’s something that bothers me about her attitude. About positive reinforcement - “I’m a groomer, I’m here to groom and not to give treats”. I’m speechless. Applying positive reinforcement is unbelievably important whilst doing what you do
The dog that's on your advertisement board behind you.. The dog in the right corner.. That's my dog... But like exactly my dog. And we live in the Netherlands Europe. Mine is a Shi Tzu /king Charles spaniel mix So strange to see him in your wall 😜. Question: my groomer gives my dog little treats in between the klipping. Not snapping when nails get shortened... one treat for you mister. And mind you that treats are not cookies. That's his food. She will give him 5 max. And he loves her now.
Tale speeds up the wag when he acts like he is going to bite. This is the best visual of an angry tale! What a handful he is. Good job! OMG! What a pain for the face!!
She’s not a dog trainer,..my dog was abused and I adopted her, she worked very well with calm voice cause as soon as you raise your voice that stresses them it’s common sense, they are no..NO different. From people. Try being kind and calm..you can’t match their hyper ness..they’re scared that’s why they get growls..lady STOP YELLING..DONT RAISE YOUR VOICE THAT AMPS THEM UP.
Some soothing words and “good boy” when he was doing good would have made me feel a lot better. I just wanted to hug on him after they were done. I wouldn’t subject my dog to this.
Its like joey have never been socialized with people or been in.public he need retraining or training 101 thats allbecause it seem he want to be nice but get scared
Joey's tail is wagging. Isn't that a good sign? It doesn't look like a nervous wag. But what do I know? He sure is a cutie! I don't care what y'all say, I'm addicted to watching Dede. I love it when she says, "Don't get mad at me. Don't get mad."
From a professional trainers point of view this is a nightmare. “Tamed”. Yeah. No. This is not taming a dog. This is just making an anxious dog anxious. I hope she has good insurance to be doing this kind of nonsense.
Dede I give so much credit to you, people seem to seek you out for their dogs! You do an amazing cut on dogs that are restless. No matter if they try to bite. You need to show them who the boss is, who the master is! Love Love watching you. I scold my dogs like how I scold my kids! I show them who the master is, and they feel the love! Keep doing you!!! Muahh
As does the groomer. So that she can be less anxious and more assertive/positive in working with aggressive dogs. This constant "No. No! NO!" Instead of calming the dog so it associates grooming with positive experience. Its a GOOD thing to get groomed! We are happy and calm when people work on grooming us, even as we mean business!
I like when the dog sat with his back.toward you like he was saying you may be the Alpha Im going to sit but not facing you but I do not like you right now
Dede did an amazing job with this dog, it’s sad when people don’t know how to teach a dog who is the leader of the pack it’s definitely not the dog just my opinion!!!
She certainly didn't teach him she was pack leader, lol she just kept yapping nonononononono and sitisitsitsitsit. Anyone who actually knows anything about dogs should know not to nag a dog to death with same commands, and be unable to implement those commands.
He seems stressed while panting and curling his tongue. You can’t always blame the parents. I think mom handles him more than the dad probably. He was willing to participate and learn.
This is now 2021

You should try watching videos of a groomer that actually knows what they're doing.
@@malloryconaway4366 Dede doesn't know what she's doing??No groomer would do this moron of a dog without sedation!! U ever groomed& been bitten!!?
She takes dogs been turned away. Ppl are at fault for getting dogs can't properly care for.
@@terrybrewer3162 I am a groomer. You need to get a grip. She literally doesn't know what she's doing.
So the rear end of this dog breed would be a Belonka-donk?
Gayle Klein - That’s hilarious! 🤣
@@ElsaInCa Thank you, Ma'am.
LMBO!
Lots of donk in his tronk
😂😂😂
Your patience is beyond what most people have.
I would love to see at least one person who comments that they know it all and that everything you do is wrong step up and try to do this.
Olivia Talbot thank you!!
For the right price I'm sure ppl will have "patience".
Thank you. Price doesn’t buy you experience.
A sling would be great for this little bugger. He is very mean and untrained. Good job by the groomer.
Wowwwww...you are awesome. Your direct, nice and very professional. Just wowww. Its awesome seeing this! 💕
Walking and training would really help that dog.
Walking does help but he has acl problems and he also is not going to just be fixed, there is too much trauma.
This video is super educational! I did not know that the tail wagging could mean anything other than content. Glad to know! Thanks Dede!
SharShar “uncooperative?”
Not a mean dog, it’s a scared dog.
good that you are training an unbehaved dog and good you learn his/her body language. you are an experienced groomer and the dogs mommy should polish them up like prepare them
It crazy that people have dogs they can not control
Yep, I agree, they should not have dogs - period.
@@donnab8010 agree I think it's ridiculous,,
And then they take them to a groomer expecting them to fix their dog...
Who said “oop sorry” when Dede said “no eye contact please”
Yep, that's mah boy, Bentley.
Very professional and careful but I got very nervous after he was bucking around and tossing his head around with the two leashes around his neck...he sounded like he really hurt his throat. When he was panting he did not sound good. Then it seemed better after the bath. Not an easy job for sure!!
Hehehee I love the dog in the beginning lol sooo fiestyyy
I see that you've been to see your own groomer. Love the new style!
You are so patient thank you for all your hard work!
The dog knows you’re in charge
You have to show them who's boss, then they have respect for you and behave. You don't have to be mean. Dede you have the patience of a saint.
He isn't mean, he's afraid.
the doesn´t mean is wont bite you.
Thank you for this video, it reallly gave me tips on how to groom my 3 morkies.
Oh my word .... you deserve a medal 🥇🥇🥇🥇
This reminds me of when I first started grooming my dog (with scissors) and attempted the face 😂 😂
Lmfaoooo same
Some people may take her way of saying NO!
Easy to say hard to actually do with dogs like this. "Until he's calm" lol.
Joey's gonna send his pet parents to an early grave🤦🏾♀️
DeeDee looks like you’ve. Been. To the groomer yourself? I really like your hair cut looks good on you. Big improvement over the way you wore it before . Good job,,!
My puppies would roll over on that table and expect a belly rub...
I love the calmness/control in DeDe's voice.
That dog has GOT to lose weight, oh my god.
Balletomane M quit fat shaming Joey 🤣!
That dog was army crawling lol 4:50
@@didiri1337 I agree she is too harsh with the dogs.
You can tell who is in control & it's not the owners! That's such a disservice to other ppl & then you want them groomed!
Applying positive reinforcement is unbelievably important whilst doing what you do
Poor baby I don't think he is mean he's probably just terrified...so sad
What an amazing groomer!!!
Well done!!! It was perfect the way you got down on the floor with him! Get down to his level and let him know you are not aggressive towards him!!
The dog that's on your advertisement board behind you..
The dog in the right corner..
That's my dog... But like exactly my dog. And we live in the Netherlands Europe. Mine is a Shi Tzu /king Charles spaniel mix
So strange to see him in your wall 😜.
Francie Garneau “ tail “
@@HandbagDiva thank you for the correction.
Its "tail" not "tale"
I see someone already beat me to it.....sorry! No disrespect intended! I'm strange like that!!🥴
She’s not a dog trainer,..my dog was abused and I adopted her, she worked very well with calm voice cause as soon as you raise your voice that stresses them it’s common sense, they are no..NO different. From people. Try being kind and calm..you can’t match their hyper ness..they’re scared that’s why they get growls..lady STOP YELLING..DONT RAISE YOUR VOICE THAT AMPS THEM UP.
I think the title speaks a thousand words from both sides
Some soothing words and “good boy” when he was doing good would have made me feel a lot better. I just wanted to hug on him after they were done. I wouldn’t subject my dog to this.
Привет.собаки разные характеры героев или добрая дела человек который привык вам знает практике привесить разные стороны спасибо
Its like joey have never been socialized with people or been in.public he need retraining or training 101 thats allbecause it seem he want to be nice but get scared
Wow Dede if I brought my dog to you I would just leave it to your judgement because you are an amazing artist with your grooming .
In minutes dede got that dog to greatness she is truely amazing
Whew! I'm all tuckered out just from watching!😄😸😄
Great job Dede!! 👍👏😊🙎🏽🐶
Joey's tail is wagging. Isn't that a good sign? It doesn't look like a nervous wag. But what do I know? He sure is a cutie!
I don't care what y'all say, I'm addicted to watching Dede. I love it when she says, "Don't get mad at me. Don't get mad."
His tail is wagging to the left. In this case, no. When a dog’s tail wags to the left, it’s a sign of anxiety and aggression.
I try to remember: his left, he’s best left. His right, he’s alright. But this is a general rule and not always true.
I don't know how you do it Keep going :-)
Little Cerberus XD
You showed so much patience getting that fur around his mouth!! My goodness!!
From a professional trainers point of view this is a nightmare. “Tamed”. Yeah. No. This is not taming a dog. This is just making an anxious dog anxious. I hope she has good insurance to be doing this kind of nonsense.
You have more patience than me!
Muahh
Joey needs to have training from Victoria Stillwell
As does the groomer. So that she can be less anxious and more assertive/positive in working with aggressive dogs. This constant "No. No! NO!" Instead of calming the dog so it associates grooming with positive experience. Its a GOOD thing to get groomed! We are happy and calm when people work on grooming us, even as we mean business!
Lot of professional dog trainers and groomers on here giving their professional advice maybe they should try it
I like when the dog sat with his back.toward you like he was saying you may be the Alpha Im going to sit but not facing you but I do not like you right now
Boss ass dog.😂😂😂 Then sits on her leg to prove he doesn't care.
Use some chicken treats when grooming the dogs and it ll help alot, the result is amazing
I dont know how you do it Keep going :-)
Dede did an amazing job with this dog, it’s sad when people don’t know how to teach a dog who is the leader of the pack it’s definitely not the dog just my opinion!!!
She certainly didn't teach him she was pack leader, lol she just kept yapping nonononononono and sitisitsitsitsit. Anyone who actually knows anything about dogs should know not to nag a dog to death with same commands, and be unable to implement those commands.
God bless you girl..you have the patience of a saint .. You do an amazing job always .. 💜
I don’t think this dog is so mean but anxious and scared. Watch the excessive panting. He’s just terrified and in self preservation mode.
He seems stressed while panting and curling his tongue. You can’t always blame the parents. I think mom handles him more than the dad probably. He was willing to participate and learn.
We love you and think you do soooooooo much for people and pets.amen//
He’s a cutie.
You tackle that face so badly putting the risk of cutting the dog,
I’m so over the moon I think I’m here first!
