      Because I've never been a professional dog groomer, the favorite part of the bath (for both dog, and human) was drying them off with the towel!! PARTY TIME! Running, playing, rolling, & playing bull/matador!

  • @kirsten07734
    @kirsten07734 6 лет назад +71

    Yawning outside of boredom or fatigue means stress, not dislike. He's nervous and confused. He doesn't understand the clippers or the grooming table, but he's trying to cooperate as he understands it. He could be taught fairly quickly and easily what you need him to do to make your job easier and he'd probably be pretty compliant but he doesn't yet understand. You're telling him you aren't happy with some things he does ("No!" "Stop!") without being explicit about explaining or showing him what you want instead. This breed is particularly biddable and teachable.
    He'd also be more compliant if he was chill instead of worried. That communication issue and unfamiliarity with you and with the process are where the stress is coming from. Address the stress and the grooming will be easier and safer for you both.
    I about fainted when you took clippers to him because GSDs are supposed to be wash and wear, clipping only the bottoms of the feet and a sanitary if needed, but that's between you and his peeps. I mention this in case anyone else finds this video in a search for information on GSD grooming and thinks this is standard procedure or recommended grooming for the breed. It's not.

    Would a rubber mat covering the table help to make him feel secure? No paw slippage.

    • @marykowalski7349
      @marykowalski7349 6 лет назад +23

      I think his long nails were making him slip. It was better after the nails were trimmed. I wondered if he had to pee. LOL I also would think that rubber on the table would NOT be good just because the hair/fur might stick. That metal table looks easy to sweep clean.

    Dede, I have always taught my dogs to shake on command during bath time. They way you placed your hand on his head to stop the shake was great. Then I would have said shake as I took my hand away and given a hand command to go with it. Many dogs get it right away. May give you a few extra seconds. Of course you don’t have a shower curtain to protect yourself. Lol

    I do not understand anything past brush, wash, brush, and nail clipping on this dog. Just my opinion. Nothing against the groomer....I just don't get the owner. I had a German Shepherd/Collie Mix who had the same hair growth. Brushing (esp. after winter) was our bond! That thick hair in the back actually brushes out! She hated me brushing her butt, BUT she was always really good! Her "blaze" in the front, and the extra hair on the legs, rear, and face....they were part of her beauty. I can't imagine cutting them off. This was such a sweet dog! ;) Great job MFG!

    • @marticook5096
      @marticook5096 5 лет назад +2

      straightforward it depends on how much time is spent out doors and what they get into. If he enjoys water and mud this would be easier to wash and dry.

    • @ferwaabbas3653
      @ferwaabbas3653 5 лет назад

      It seems the live in a hotter climate. I know Dede is stationed in Texas. So the thick fur isn’t ideal for that. She did make it look nice and blended in the end. But it’s more for practicality. I know my aussies will need a big chop since the weather is heating up where I live Im more concerned about them not over heating when we’re outside than the aesthetic of it all

    • @alexisschutte897
      @alexisschutte897 4 года назад +1

      I don’t think this groomer knows what a pair of scissors are. He really just needed trimmed and have trimming shears on his hind legs and chest to think blend it all out and even it out.

    A better thing to do is get a rubber mat and put it under him, and stop being loud that kind of scares the dog (i might be wrong about her being too loud, for me she was loud. My opinion) , try to get the dog get used to being around the shavers without it being on and just rub it around their fur and body parts so they feel more secure about it and then turn it on so they get used to the sound, then maybe the dog will stop moving so much. I hope this helped! I love you and your channel

      because she's a terrible groomer and has 0 idea what she's doing. She regularly shaves double coated dogs and completely disregards all the evidence that says you should never do that. Just watched a video of her shaving a Cairn terrier, wire coated terriers should never be shaved, they need to be hand stripped!

      Are u stupid or just stupid. The dog is grown and saying no with a strong and assertive voice is good and the dog wasn't stressing or it would have peed or try to bite. The constant moving was cuz its prob the first time anyone groomed him like that. The bath went smooth so maybe you should do ya research before saying stuff like that. My dog is amazingly trained a 8 month old rottweiler heels sits lays down with hand signs if u wanna see ill link my IG for u just to make u feel more stupid than ur comment ^^

      @@moonflower5553 nigga if a modern household dog that has any form of simple training or not aggressive saying no or holding his muzzle for a short time is a good way of not letting it do what he/she wants. Giving treats isn't always gonna be an ideal form for grooming. Just take the L and think or do some research before u try to insult ^^

      @@triscuit6516 take your own advice and do some research. You clearly don't know dog body language. "The dog wasn't stressing or he would have peed or tried to bite" - uh, no. Yawning and lip licking are two main stress signals which is why she even pointing it out in the video and said to be aware of it. She also even said herself several times how anxious and stressed the dog was 😒

    Oh my goodness. This dog acts exactly like mine does when I am trying to brush or bath him. Drives me nuts. He even will put his paw on me, as if begging me to stop (like Toby does). It is like an anxiety thing or something. Toby is so pretty. Looks to have some collie mixed in with the German Shepherd. Beautiful and so sweet. Wished I lived near Dede, I would sure bring my Australian Shepherd to her to help me work with him. Dede, you have a gift.
