    I have an 18 month old, female beauty. She is now completely leash free even with live road work with traffic. We worked on leash for a full year. 2 to 3 sessions per day, every day and it has paid off beautifully. I am so proud of her. She is the love of my life.

      Used one to train my husky/wolf dog. He passed a few years back and I now have a German Shepherd puppy. Nice to know I did the correct thing (a lot of people told me I was hurting him but I thought it was a lot better and more effective than choking him. He was quite large) will do the same with Loki.❤

    Nice puppy !!! GSDs grow so darn fast !! ... Perfect example of how well a dog responds to a HS prong collar.... the very first time wearing one. !! They dont hurt the dog...if used correctly... like Tom demonstrated .. Pulling on a flat collar is what does damage to their throats!!

      I bruised my poor boy’s throat..tried Beckman’s 180 degree turns to “cure pulling on the leash” and all it did was bruise his throat..I like what Andy Krueger says (too late for me, but on track now) that proper heel training, the slow and steady correct way is the better way to train “not pulling”…

I will be introducing leash pressure soon, she is a hound with nose to the ground pretty much the whole time. She needs to learn I'm at the end of the leash!!

    I really love the slightly longer format training video. It added so much more information than some of the cut and edited videos do. I love seeing such a gorgeous gsd too. And he is so big already. My gsd mal cross is 60lbs full grown and that guy looks already around there even tho he is only six months. Also I love how you say direction is different than correction. Pressure can mean different things if applied different ways.

Any tips on puppies that keep on chewing pillows and cushions? I got him toys he can chew on, and try to put verbal pressure and follow through when he starts approaching the wrong things. I’d like for my puppy to eventually not aim for those, but it still remains his favorite things :(

My GSD is very protective, she barks aggressively, lunges and goes crazy and uncontrollable on the leash when she sees or meets dogs. I have her on a slip lead when we walk. She's come such a far way from where she was when I first got her thanks to your beyond extremely helpful educational, encouraging, motivating videos!!! I love this video! So informative both visually and verbally. You are the trainer that I've started to watch and take lessons from regularly. I have two husky puppies both under a year old. Your videos on proper prong collar use have been very helpful. We can actually enjoy our walks now instead of feeling like the dog is going to choke itself to death with a flat collar. Freyja is over 60 lbs already. Fenrir is a little younger and weighs a little under 60 lbs. Pulling is no longer an easy thing to handle with them as they are very strong and stubborn. Thank you for making these videos.

    I LOVE that u explained the benefits of a prong collar during training especially when your training a young powerful dog.
    Yes a prong is misused by most. Your traing advice is sound. Having a well trained dog is a RESPONSIBILITY and a COMMITMENT most don't understand how VALUABLE it is in in the long run for both -- you and your puppy/dog. It pays off 1,000 fold in the long run. It's a relationship you build not force and it's actually fun.
    Owning a dog is a RESPONSIBILITY and a COMMITMENT. If you don't want to put in this kind of work get a lap dog not a big powerful breed.
    Your training advice is sound n perfect. In my opinion, the coolest/funest part is higher level training where you hone in on what they are bred to do and watch ur family member excel at their natural talents and yet be the most loving, devoted companion you'll ever have!

    Great video of the foundation needed. I'm working with my malinois and my German shepherd to refocus on the basics before moving forward. Any tips or a video for walking multiple dogs at the same time as they are much more engaged and obedient on their own? Thanks Tom, love all of your videos and the podcast.

    • @primalcritters
      @primalcritters Год назад +2

      That's tough. I'm a multiple dog household as well and I've owned Malinois and German shepherds. Yes on their own they are much better but in a group not as much. They say to master obedience on one dog at a time and then you can walk them together. Unfortunately I don't have the time to do that so I have to walk them together and sacrifice but strong leadership and being very firm is my suggestion.

    • @FAFOifYOUwantTObozo
      @FAFOifYOUwantTObozo Год назад

      @@primalcritters thanks. Yes, I'm working on their individual obedience quite a bit as well as doing some training together and it seems to be helping. They just get extra rowdy when they are together on the walks and since I have three dogs, I walk them together every evening. I try to walk them individually occasionally, but would rather spend that time training obedience or playing in the yard with them for their exercise. Awesome dogs, but definitely a handful on your own.

      @@heavystacks80 that makes sense but is kind of a hindsight is 20-20 statement. My olde English bulldog has been mastered for several years as she is 100% off leash trained without ever using any prongs or e collars. The malinois is already almost there after having her for 8 months but with the use of tools. The German shepherd/pit is coming along nicely after almost 2 years but he is the most stubborn of the bunch and I'm having to find ways to work through his issues.

    Why are you leash training on the left? I have always trained my dogs to walk on my right side . I do this based on traffic flow and how we walk on sidewalks, etc. It keeps the dogs away from traffic and to the side away from foot traffic I walk past.
