This is the most helpful how-to video I have ever seen! Thank you for getting right to the point and not trying to be a Tool Time star. I woke up this morning, water in bottom of dishwasher, followed your steps, and now it's running. And I was able to get started before my husband came home from work. I feel quite accomplished!
ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS VIDEO! MY HUSBAND DID ALL OF THIS IN ABOUT 30 MINUTES ALL IN! WELL, MOSTLY I HANDED HIM THE DRILL AND THE CHANNEL LOCKS BUT I FELT GOOD ABOUT IT ALL THE SAME. IT'S NOT THAT WE WOULD NOT HAVE HITED A REPAIRMAN IT'S JUST THAT WE ARE KIND OF ISOLATED AND PEOPLE DONT REALLY WANT TO COME OUT HERE, AND IF THEY AGREE TO THEY USUALLY ARE ABOUT A WEEK LATE. SO THANK YOU FOR THIS GREAT VIDEO!
This was great! I bought a house with this dishwasher in it and I recently realized that I needed to do a deep clean instead of just using the cleaning powders and vinegar. I kept seeing the videos where someone unscrewed the small circular filter and I couldn't find it. Looks like we hit the jackpot with our special dishwasher!
I've dealt with so many dishwashers in my life it's ming boggling why they would design it this way. I had an older model in my previous apartment that I truly loved, easy cleaning access. I allowed the salesman to sell me on this stainless inside upgrade (previous inside was plastic)for my new apartment boy do I regret it. I used to clean my old filter weekly, now its been a couple of years and I'm finally searching on RUclips for tips because I know IT SHOULD be cleaned properly 😩
Great, I just bought a Samsung dishwasher last night. Such a stupid design compared to my GE that just pops out...UPDATE got my new samsung dishwasher. Installed it and started a cycle to try it out. Within a half hr i got a leak code. Check all the connections. No leak. Did some research to find out this is a common problem with samsung dishwashers. Uninstalled it, packed it back up and returned it. Never again buy a samsung appliance. Bought parts for my 11 yr old GE dishwasher, did the repair myself and it still operating strong. Also, it only takes me one minute to rinse out the filter on my GE. No tools needed.
Thank you for the video! I looked all through the manual to figure out if I needed to remove the mesh and it never said anything on how to clean it. Your video was way more informational.
This video was exactly what I was looking for! I was going to quickly clean the filter for the first time and saw all of the screws and thought "ok i don't think that's normal..."
Wow. Thank you for this video. After six years of use we started getting this dirty residue on our dishes. Found this wonderful step by step video, took it apart as shown, cleaned it all out because there was a significant amount of "gunk", put it back together and am running the cup of vinegar in the hot cycle now. Hopefully it will last another six years before having to do it again because it almost takes a contortionist to deal with the 13 screws in the bottom.
You got 6 years out of a dishwasher! We got 2 out of the LG, 2 out of the Whirlpool and are now on a Samsung that had to have a computer board replaced after 1.5 years. This is the third time removing the filter to clean it. Generally, they all are built in the same three factories and they all suck.
I just cleaned mine out for the first time. If you haven’t cleaned your dishwasher in several years I do recommend taking the extra step to remove the water pump impeller and clean out the bottom part as well. The heating element, those two metal rectangular tubes, had gunk built up around it also. Our dishwasher has worked great for 7 years so far. It’s true Samsung is not the best brand, but these dishwashers seem to be pretty good.
Thank you so much for doing the video. I just took mine apart and cleaned it. I soaked the pieces in a Dawn dish soap/ vinegar mix and they came out like new. The little yellow spinny part also has a reverse threaded screw to get under it. I use cheap washer powder and now it works better than ever!
Omg the whole reason we bought this type of washer was to not have to do deal with the hassle of cleaning the filter. We are better off just getting one with the filter you pull out like a bucket. Thanks so much for your help!
Bro!! Thanks so very much! The particles being left on were driving me CRAZY!! I probably replaced my last dishwasher too soon. I wish I saw this sooner for that. I knew there had to be something that caused this and that I could fix it. I am in your debt!
Thanks for the video. Short and sweet. You may have wanted to remove the impeller too, which I understand may be reverse threaded. Some people that still have the problem may have a broken or jammed impeller, which is what drives the water up to the spinning wands.
Thanks a bunch for sharing this. I’m so disappointed with Samsung appliances their instruction manuals are horrible and have no clear instructions where to find things m. So thanks again! After 5-6 years I can finally clean it! It’s starting to smell bad and I don’t feel like my dishes are getting cleaned so have been hand washing for a long time. I don’t know how I missed your tutorial on this as I have searched for years now. Just glad I finally found you! Stay safe!
I'm sitting by the exact dish washer rn looking online trying to find the filter and could not figure out where it was. Thank you man this helped me a lot.
Thank you! I have this dishwasher! I had the same issue with my glasses. I was expecting the filter to be a lot more dirty, but it wasn’t. I will see how my dishes turn out the next time I use it. Regardless I appreciate the video!
@@maryversluis7222 yes they did. However, I notice when the Jet Dry is getting low my dishes don’t come as clean. So between cleaning my dishwasher and making sure there’s Jet Dry in the compartment, depend on how clean my dishes come out. Also I have started using Borax in my dishwasher and that also helps!
You’re not that handy if you were going to call a service for this 😄. Just joking friend. I’ve had the same annoying problem of dirty dishes but I’m not handy like you. I’m just cheap and have little money 🥴. Blessings to you!

I have personal beef with this design I'm cleaning it for my mom while she's out camping cause she's been having problems with it not cleaning her dishes and lemme just say I thought this would be a simple pull out the filter, rinse, put it back NOOOO I'm on vacation where I build dishwashers and I didn't expect to bring work home BUT either way, very informative and I thank you kindly! Mama is gonna be happy that her dishwasher cleans stuff again ^~^
Thank you for this video. I was able to clean my parent dishwasher with ease. However, I did use a soft plastic brush and a shop vacuum to vacuum out as much gunk as possible. I also took out the pipe and cleaned all that because it was clogged with gunk. So very helpful. BTW, the dishwasher cleaners work great! I use them in mine... my parents do not.
Great video, thanks! This seems to apply also to Samsung model DW80R5060US which I just bought. Hopefully, I won't have to do this cleaning too often, it is much more complicated than on my previous dishwasher.
The idea was because there's a thing that kind of acts like a garburator, that there was no need to clean a filter. All the stuff a filter would've caught should've got minced and washed down the drain. So I think the problem people are having has more to do with the rinse cycle not washing away the food particles well enough. And then the drying starts and all those food particles just end up getting stuck. I'm currently shopping for a new dishwasher. And while researching I found that these Samsung dishwashers are really meticulous, requiring premium soap and scheduled cleaning.
Yeah, everyone please don't forget to post a review on Samsung's website and on Amazon or anywhere else you can. I am constantly battling the dishwasher to work at peak performance, and the nasty stuff I pull out of these overly complicated plastic parts in the bottom is gross. It's an all day affair of disassembly, soaking the parts in the sink, scrubbing everything, running the highest heat cycle with cleaner, soaking with vinegar, it's just too much. If it was easier to take apart and put back together it wouldn't be so bad. I'm looking into either a Bosch or a Miele dishwasher next. I don't mind paying good money for quality products.
I just want to say a big thank you for your video as we have the same dishwasher model, I would never thought we have to remove so many screws just to clean the filters, the engineer who designed this probably does not have a spouse 8-)
thank you so much for this!! I have the dw80r5060us and my gf and I could not find the filter because like you said most have a round one and our manual had a picture of a round one as well. so we could not figure it out and had almost given when i came across your video and realized that the cover was the filter and we have now been able to properly clean it and get rid of the smell that was lingering.
Thank you. This video is great. I must add though, that once you have removed the filter part, why not clean all other components. This dishwasher has "dirt traps" everywhere. Around the rubbers that seal the door, inside the three spray nozzles that get clogged, behind the plastic pipe that brings the water to the top nozzle... Take everything out and clean it!
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been hand washing for YEARS bc my dishwasher was not cleaning properly, I just did this and the gunk that came out was gross! Fingers crossed that it works now😀
man, I just told my wife I didn't think they would put those screws in if they wanted the consumer taking apart the filter area to clean but boy I was wrong, it is indeed a pathetic design. welp, I guess I know what I'm doing this afternoon.. thanks for the video!
Thank you for this video!!...if I could afford to get rid of my Samsung dishwasher I would...I think Samsung dishwashers are just the worst...had residue on my dishes from Day 1!!! Had an old old Whirlpool dishwasher that we changed to upgrade our kitchen, never had any problems...very frustrated 😰 Will try this today...hoping it works for me 🙏🏽
Thanks a ton man. Could not figure out where the filter was until this video. Definitely a bit of a pain but I greatly appreciate you posting this. Thanks again!! Great video!!
Very good explanation of how to clean this dishwasher. It was a bit to take it apart but your instructions were great. I wanted to do this before my husband got home. And I did. With the exception of dropping his cordless screwdriver in my dishwasher and then I had to take now the screws by hand yet snap the herd. Purt the herd part is telling them what I did to is cordless screw driver. Hey would you expect for someone that's eighty have a great day
I used to sell appliances part time when I was in school. I used to praise Samsung's features. Then I got older, married, and purchased a home with all new Samsung Appliances. They are the LEAST intuitive appliances EVER. Kitchenaid for the win in my opinion.
I've done this multiple times and still have the same issue. I've taken apart all the moving parts including the places water would flow through to clean out gunk. Unfortunately the same problem occurs each time the cycle finishes. Recently I unscrewed the round disk above the soap dispenser and found a unbearably disgusting pileup of old food particles stuck to the inside of it. I cleaned it out and ran the washer again but it I still get food particles everywhere. It was also recommended to check the line that goes to the disposal and make sure it's not blocked....yet again that failed. I'm about ready to toss this washer.
I'll have to check mine above the soap dispenser. I was surprised that my dishes were so dirty, but there wasn't a ton of food particles in the filter. Maybe there's another spot like yours where food was hiding that was getting sprayed over everything.
If the outlet hose is not hooked high enough there will not be a proper siphon. If it does not siphon dirty water will wash back into the tub. Might not be the solution but.... Dave - thanks for the video
best solution do not buy a Samsung lol, i haven't even had mine a year and have had to do this twice, I hate it. I thought the food grinder was going to be great but this has been the worst dishwasher I've ever owned.
we bought ours Dec 2016 and just now had the problem. Not to go into too much detail, we chatted with Samsung Canada about how to loosen a screw. They came back with "no warranty". Well, researching RUclips, the screw we tried to loosen is one that doesn't need to be loosened. Anyway, we got our problems solved, but this dishwasher is quite an elephant. And after chatting to their customer service today, I will make a point of not buying any more Samsung products. Starting with my phone.
@@angelicacovington1653 i hear you loud and clear. the I have found that if i rinse my dishes really well and use the pots and pans with extra heat settings it cleans alright and if you add the expensive platinum detergent it does a good job but you still need to rinse well on a machine and detergent that both advertise not having to rinse at all. so I will also not buy another samsung appliance again that's for sure. should have gone with bosch and i knew better. but they do get the best ratings in dishwashers.
Ya, I bought Samsung appliances stove, fridge, dishwasher and microwave bundle when I moved into my first home. The fridge motor on the inside to push cold air went out not even a year in. Ice make went out 6months later when the warranty went out. The stove convection motor fan went out . The dish washer never cleans. Which lead me to this video to figure out why. I will NEVER buy a Samsung appliances again. Maytag or whirlpool are the brands to go with from what I have been told by tech that had to repair this crap.
Thanks… discouraging that this is the design. I’ll know better next time. But since you’re so helpful, maybe this machine will last longer than our others have!
Great great video. Thank you for the help. Just one thought. I think there is a rubber O ring in that hole where the feed to the upper arm goes? I only know because mine fell out without me knowing and messed things up a bit.
Great video! What happens if a small hole is made in fabric filter? Do I need to replace the whole piece, or continue to use same filter and monitor if the hole get bigger? Thanks
Very useful video for a Samsung dishwasher owner considering the complexity (15 screws) compared to other makes/models. Might want to include model # in the title or description: Samsung DW80J3020UB DW80J3020UB/AA 01
I’m having the same issue with food particles being left behind in my glasses and on my dishes, cleaned the filter as described, tried different detergents and rinse aids to no avail. 😢
Even more gunk is found behind the water tube from the filter to the top water arm. Just pop this sucker off and marvel at the crap that’s collected there. (It’s the one the guy moved a bit to remove the bottom components). Like everyone else here I cleaned all the parts and was still getting particles until I took off that back of the dishwasher part.
Thanks for this video. It definitely helped with the glasses. Any chance you know how to fix a loud humming/buzzing from this dishwasher? I got a video if it helps.
Thanks for the video. Very clear. Did what you suggested, but after I clean the bottom piece there was a seal left in the sink. Not sure where in the heck this seal came from🙁? Did you see a seal?
I think there was a rubber o ring on the bottom plastic piece. But it was in a plastic groove and wasn't an issue. Someone else in the comments suggested taking another lower piece apart and cleaning down there also.
You need to undo one more screw at the white circle, carefully lift it all up there is another filter around the blades and likely there is a lot more junk on there. You also need to use a brush to clean it all thoroughly.
Awesome thAnks so much. This dishwasher is driving me crazy! After following your directions I finally got the screen out but the sandy sediment won’t come off the screen 🤦🏽♀️ any suggestions?
Thank you for providing instructions that the manual itself doesn’t even mention. There is zero mention of a filter anywhere in this thing. It’s an old as hell Maytag, though. Was this an old money maker for plumbers or something?!?
Hi! Super helpful. What happens if you do poke a hole in the mesh? We of course did so but in the video I can see yours also has a hole. Do we have to replace the part? Or what’s the issue with using as is? Thanks!
You can probably order another filter from an appliance parts store. If you use it with a punctured filter, the bottom and drainage tube will fill up with gunk and clog.
Naturally I stopped watching to take the screws out and poked a hole in the screen only to restart the video and I’m told to be careful don’t penetrate the screen. Lol. Thanks for showing me how though. 😊
After i clean the filter, the grit doesn't show up on the dishes. I think the food particles just collect and get sprayed around and get stuck on the underside of glasses.

Same with me, I just can clean this thing enough to get the dishes clean
If the outlet hose is not hooked high enough there will not be a proper siphon. If it does not siphon dirty water will wash back into the tub. Might not be the solution but....
Dave - thanks for the video
Same here. I'll never buy this dishwasher again plus I'm sick of the Chinese Anthem it plays at the end
@@StephanieFaller that's the Samsung song, not Chinese. Both my washer and my dishwasher play the same song.
best solution do not buy a Samsung lol, i haven't even had mine a year and have had to do this twice, I hate it.
@@angelicacovington1653 we bought all new Samsung appliances and there isn’t one I like. All pieces of garbage. Expensive lesson learned!!!! Grrrrr
I'm going to agree with you, samsung has been the worst dishwasher brand I've ever owed.
Samsung dropped the ball on this. Thanks for showing this. I hate to say this but Samsung really does suck for home appliances
you can further unscrew the turbine and take the "snail" structure out.
Great video! What happens if a small hole is made in fabric filter? Do I need to replace the whole piece, or continue to use same filter and monitor if the hole get bigger? Thanks
I've had a small hole in mine for about a year. Didn't really notice a change. I was thinking of using hot glue or something to seal it over.
Thank you! This solved my OC code problem!
thanks samsung for making things harder for the consumer. I'll never buy samsung again.
Same here.
Wish I knew about Samsungs crappy filter system before purchasing the dishwasher. I would have steered clear. It is such a hassle
Thanks for the great video. I did punch a hole in the screen with the drill…. Anyone know what the repercussions of that will be?
Many people, including myself did that. Don't think it's been an issue.
Hey thanks man, this was super helpful!
This was really helpful! Thanks a lot!🙏🏻
Thank you, this was very helpful. Shared your link on FB.🙂
you NEED to go deeper and remove the last piece down. ALSO the spinners or wands need to be flushed out. good job for the most part/
Very useful video for a Samsung dishwasher owner considering the complexity (15 screws) compared to other makes/models.
Might want to include model # in the title or description:
Samsung DW80J3020UB
DW80J3020UB/AA 01
Good idea. Will do.
Thanks. I have the exact same problems described.
Thank you! We've got the same model, but the owner's manual for it shows how to change the filter on a different model. So ridiculous.
This helped a lot, thanks! 🎉
Thanks for your video. It really helped…I hope.
Nice job. Super easy.
hey can you do an update on your trees that you planted a couple years back?
Many thanks!
Thanks for this video. It definitely helped with the glasses. Any chance you know how to fix a loud humming/buzzing from this dishwasher? I got a video if it helps.
There's a motor below that filter screen. Think you have to pull out the whole dishwasher to get to it. Sometimes it can get clogged.
So very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you! This is exactly what I needed!
You need to undo one more screw at the white circle, carefully lift it all up there is another filter around the blades and likely there is a lot more junk on there. You also need to use a brush to clean it all thoroughly.
This was perfect! Thank you!
Awesome man thanks
Awesome thAnks so much. This dishwasher is driving me crazy! After following your directions I finally got the screen out but the sandy sediment won’t come off the screen 🤦🏽♀️ any suggestions?
Aaaaand of course I wound up putting a hole in the screen 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
Ya I put a hole in mine too, leaning over and the drill slips. I just used soap and water to get the grit off. Maybe soak it?
I have same unit. Thank you so much
Thank you for providing instructions that the manual itself doesn’t even mention.
Thanks!
Lots of people in the comments said the same thing, me too.
It wasn't an issue for me although I thought of using some hot glue to fill the hole
You can probably order another filter from an appliance parts store. If you use it with a punctured filter, the bottom and drainage tube will fill up with gunk and clog.
Thank you!
Thank you!!!
Naturally I stopped watching to take the screws out and poked a hole in the screen only to restart the video and I’m told to be careful don’t penetrate the screen. Lol. Thanks for showing me how though. 😊
Helped a lot, thanks!!
Excellent 👍👍👍
Thanks
I'm so annoyed I bought this dishwasher. I didn't realize I had to remove multiple screws to clean it...
But thanks for the video!
Ya it sucks. But hopefully only have to do it 1 or 2 times per year.
Thank you so much
Thank you for the video, but what happened after cleaning the machine isn't as good as before? Like not clean as before or a can't really be dried?
After i clean the filter, the grit doesn't show up on the dishes. I think the food particles just collect and get sprayed around and get stuck on the underside of glasses.
