  • Our 1-year old Samsung dishwasher was leaving glasses, bowls, and plates dirty after a full wash cycle. The only way to fully clean the catch basin is to remove parts from the base of the dishwasher. Model is dishwasher: DW80R5061

Samsung needs to go back to the drawing board, that filtering system design is not well designed. Glad I found this video!

Thanks! Appreciate you taking on this job. Yeah, annoying that Samsung didn't design a removable filter. Even more annoying is that Samsung user manual doesn't have any instruction or information about cleaning this model dishwasher.

Well, I've done all kinds of things to deep clean my 5 year old SAMSUNG DISHWASHER-MODEL : DW80R5060UG
I'm very greatfull for this youtuber showing us this video. But, turns out mine looked worse than it was. There really wasn't much under the screen. I do a GOOD rinse before the dishes go in. What I did find was mineral deposits from hard water. I tried gently scrubbing but that won't cut it. I'll just continue doing cycles with white vinegar. I'm glad I cked though. Two things I learned, 1.) It seems like the dishwasher just doesn't need an external filter (not in my case) &
2.) I could really do it myself; didn't even ask for help from hubby! Yaaay!!

Mine is only six months old and I am beyond peeved at the time it has cost me to find your video and try to fix this myself. I HATE THIS DISHWASHER! other than this most ridiculous engineering act of stupidity it works fine. Make the filter cleanable SAMSUNG!

Thanks so much for this. Really helped me out. Especially when I had to put everything back together. 😂
I would like to add a couple of little extra steps though.
Don’t lose the two O rings. One is where the red circle nozzle came off and the other one is where the grey “L” nozzle is attached. You can kind of see both “O” rings at the 4:07/4:08 mark.
At 4:11 mark you will see this yellow wheel. If you take this off, you will see another grill with the sharp propeller blades. This is where large food particles get chopped up. Mine was pretty gross. Anyway be careful when you take this one screw off. For some reason the screw in this yellow circle thing is Right to loosen it. Make sure you unscrew it CLOCKWISE so you don’t strip it. Righty tighty lefty loosey does not apply here.
Hope this helps anyone in the future.

if you take the back part off that brings the water down and up to your spinner on top it can have build up back behind the spot it connects too, ours was gross. it just clips in so it is easy to take off and put back on. It has just enough space to create a build up same with the connection on the top spinner as well.

Thank you so much for this video! This model dishwasher was already in the house we purchased. Glasses always come out with gunk in them unless I put them in the bottom rack. Grr! I hope it helps you too. One more thing I recently discovered (and I haven't had a chance to edit my video yet) is that the top rack (for the kitchen tools, plastic containers, etc) was disgustingly dirty at the back. We never use this rack so I never thought to remove it. I pulled it out entirely and could not believe all the built up dirt on the rear rollers. I actually tossed the rack out because we never use it and I feel it'll continue to catch dirt and cause the gunk to continue contaminating the dishes. Let me know how your top rack looks.

My parents have lived in the same house for 20 years give or take and have a nearly identical Samsung dishwasher that they never clean. It's horrifying, and practically everything was coming out of the dishwasher with that dirt stuff on it, but my dad refused to admit there was a problem and apparently didn't know that you're supposed to clean your dishwasher. I pulled it apart today for presumably the first time in the years they've owned it. It was *caked* with grime, and I still haven't gotten it clean despite scrubbing the various pieces with a soapy rag. I wish ours looked as nice as yours did on the inside.

Sounds funny but can you do a video cleaning the filter on the side? We have a very similar dishwasher but we are renters so I’m scared to break it but the filter I’m pretty sure needs to be cleaned however even when I follow the directional arrows it feels stuck, is this normal or is ours actually maybe stuck? It’s been making a high pitched whine sound which is apparently the filter needing a cleaning.

Looks like you broke the little tabs off the bottom of the feed tube and it will never stay in place. You can't force it it. The tube has to be turned, then inserted and turned back about 1/8" inch. To do it safely, the feed tube has to be unhooked at the back and top of the dishwasher so it can be slightly twisted, inserted and twisted back to lock it in (also to remove). Very easy to unhook the feed tube at the back and top. Pushing it in (or pulling it out) at the bottom while not slightly turned or twisted will break off the tabs and the feed tube will always pop out when running and no water will get to the middle and upper arms. The cost of a new feed tube is about $120. Terrible design, a chore to clean. 18 or more screws just to remove the parts. And if not careful, a broken feed tube that is not repairable.

Samsung appliances suck. Nothing is designed with simplicity or ease in mind - removing anything is never easy nor quick, often requires tools, and an engineering degree helps because they don't even bother with clear directions in their manuals. If you think this dishwasher filter change is fun, try changing filter in one of their POS refrigerators!
