- Introducing Bruce Henn from www.brucehennsg...
We have a V8! We have our very own V8 for Vagabond Falcon! It's a Ford 302 (5.0L) EFI out of the same 1993 Ford Thunderbird from where we got our AOD transmission. I take it to Bruce Henn's Garage where Bruce and Tony guide me though a partial tear-down of the motor. Big thanks to Bruce Henn's Garage, a place you will see more and more of now.
which engine is heaviest engine
+RHOK Hardenup mazda engine is best engine because Wankel motor
+RHOK Hardenup I blackened out my valve covers so they weigh more
+RHOK Hardenup how many people read this in the +RegularCars show and shine voice?
lavothas x
I wrote it in that voice
+RHOK Hardenup Honda engine is best engine because VTEC
Lol crickets chirping when you said the police interceptor reference.
Man I died laughing at that
Now this is exciting journalism! Who is this Bruce Henn? How do I find a Bruce Henn in my area? Oh man... to have a big open, clean space with all the tools you could ever need, and some guy who's an encyclopedia of knowledge on the motor your working with, who's cool enough to work with you. You're living the dream, Mr. Regular.
+Neil Bolin Thanks!
+RegularCars This brings me back to sunday mornings watching/helping a friend put togeather a 5.0 for an S13, thanks for this Mr.Regular!! GoodLuck!!
+RegularCars By the way, That thing in the end of the video is an "Ultima GTR"
+Neil Bolin Oh fuuuuck ya!! sounds like heaven to me, all thats needed is some good beer and good food.
+Maximus Kappa Yes, that's a Noble Ultima. They have quite the reputation in Europe, Its power to weight goes beyond Bugatti Veyron into bike territory. You Americans might remember the Ascari Ecosse? Same Brit.
NOT A CARRRRRRR NURRGGHHHHHHHHHH
+Kyoto-Moto Your profile picture adds to the experience!
Ultima GTR... long live Forza for teaching me that
FORZA! FORZA! FORZA!
+Rustheredfox hi there fellow fur!

+Nick Sandalis The GTR has a roof for a more ridged ride. Henn's is the more soft, road going Evolution.
Was that guy eating just a giant plate of salami?
There's some tomatoes, but yeah that looks like a whole lotta cured meat.
Probably summer sausage
Nope just uh... A plate of salami...
A real mans snack
gabagool
I can't stand the speed of which the engine is going apart with bolts flying over the floor, it would take me 4 months to label and take pictures of everything how it all goes together, and then still be left with "spare parts" in the end :D
Don't worry he knows where everything goes
+Tom Jacobs Most of that stuff won't be reused, all of the externals will be changed to fit the Falcon engine bay.
+Tom Jacobs Once you have taken enough of those apart, you remember where each part goes. I have a wooden box of nuts and bolts (left overs) that i can go through and can tell you which vehicle and where that bolt goes to. Great for spare parts. you never know when you might need one since someone else forgot to put it on.
+Tom Jacobs "I hope this bolt wasn't important" -Every mechanic ever
6:49 was such a cringy couple seconds.
Allen Pent fr man none of the jokes landed the whole video and it was so awkward
Mr Regular has impeccable fashion sense.
Straight out of the Boscovs dad section
work it giiiiirl.
15 minutes of Mr.Regular dropping various items :)
true mechanic, I asked mine that same thing. He tells me "If I can't put it together the proper way the first time, I need to find new employment". He had me toke the thing apart for him... fun times.
What if arnold schwarzenegger (in his prime) came through and lifted the engine over his shoulder and put in in the truck XD
I'm diggin these build videos
+TheIgnorantBastrd Yeah, I second this, I hope we continue to see lots of updates like this!!
+Robby94LS you will!
+RegularCars Awesome!
+TheIgnorantBastrd I would recommend checking out project binky too :P If you like bodywork videos
That guy with the glasses at the beginning looks like Cory from Trailer Park Boys.
lol
+mitchman2100 *drops engine* awww shit sorry ricky
Julian: Put your fucking hands down boys
You are a professional butter hands
Ultima kit car judging by the headlights
+kinger2005 yeah that's a ultima
i was thinking the same thing
I knew as soon as I saw the taillight's that it was an ultima. Hell of a kit car those things are.
The blue and white mid-engined roadster is an Ultima of some sort. Ultima is a British company. They usually have a GM LS motor in them
Other comments seem to indicate it's the Ultima GTR, looks correct to me.
It's cool watching someone with minimal car knowledge get their hands dirty and learn something new. Good job! Keep it up!
Which hernia is best hernia?
Omg hahahaha
Regular Car Mods
So many manly noises in this video
nice capri dude
+Andrew Cathcart Nice Capri dude.
My 302 v8 is best 302 v8 because BODYCAM TEARDOWN VIDEO.
1:01 to 1:40 close ur eyes and listen
sound good
2:31 I don't know if its just me, but it looks like after Top Gear got canceled, a lot of new car channels emerged on RUclips, to fill a gap. Also the old channels got more traction. But nothing compares to the original trio.
Also thats how I found this channel. I needed something to watch instead of Top Gear. And among many bland copies RegularCars was the only thing that kept my attention.
+Dufffaaa93 Did you know that Top Gear (Clarkson, Hammond and May anyway) got picked up by Amazon video? They had a no competition contract with the BBC for like 2 years, but Amazon is global, so last I heard (about a month or 2 ago from Clarkson's twitter) filming was gonna start almost immediately and the new series, whatever it will be called, should air in the first half of next year!
+boomstick900 Can't wait for it
+Dufffaaa93 Same happened for me. I allready watched Roadkill but things like Haggard Garage, RegularCars and thatDudeinBlue suddenly showed up.
+Stef Otten But ThatDudeInBlue and Mr Regular have been around since before Clarkson was fired. So...
Thank you sir :)
Oh wow, I just noticed that the Kei Van already makes an appearance there...
mr Regular sounds like a v8 also huh... at 1:26
Mr. Regular, I am more than happy you are doing this to Vagabond Falcon. I'm very happy for you. Hope you enjoy Vagabond Falcon more.
Daily Manly stuff quota fulfilled.
Noice.
+Tomo Bozickovic Nice 155!
Thx mate :)
A man's man's job. My beard grew back from watching this.
you need a non-fisheye for blogs.... *vomits from motion sickness*
"My asshole's in metric." I'm using this now.
7:12 Bruce rolls up with a beer in hand and a plate full of sliced meat. Truly a man of men. I don't think you guys could have found a better builder for your show.
I was really hoping you'd rebuild the original engine but this will be fascinating to watch the progress. I'll still be glued to my screen for every single video.
The shit you're learning!
it says on the steering wheel Ultima its propapbly ether a spyder or a Evolution Convertible, i'm not sure though could be also something crazy like a chopped off top of a Ultima GTR or something...
Being a mechanic was always something that looked appealing to me. My Dad was a mechanic for 50 years, he told me "Do whatever you want with your life, anything but fucking cars."
I had to change the water pump on my car and I bought a new one from Autozone that said it was specified for that specific model year, model, motor, and everything but the return line was too short and curved wrong. So we had to heat it with a torch and bend it and then move some things out of the way so that the hose would reach the return line. Why would they change the dimensions for a part? The car's made back then aren't going to get those updates so why would you change the dimensions of the new parts?
3:45 real mechanic
How much HP & Torque will this engine produce?
+HEROrr 210-250hp depending on version and around 300 lb-ft
+Rentta unless he does H/C/I
Rentta Thanks! That seems like more than enough for the falcon!
***** Np :)
That white roadster is an Ultima GTR. A kit car.
new drinking game, every time the socket falls off the air wrench everyone take a swig
so bruce builds engines? I need an engine shop to build my ford 302. I know another one but if you recommend him
He sure does, I wouldn't be showing you this if I didn't trust him with my everything
+Leonard Nimoy See the guy with the Iron man-style logo on his shirt? That's Troy Frew. You're going to want to call him for a 13b. Troy is a rotary specialist. facebook.com/RotaryImportPerformance/
+Leonard Nimoy oh come on you can build a rotary yourself takes like 20 mins
RegularCars does he do machine work like decking blocks. could he also port heads.
Regular cars any future plans for the car?!
The comment section,a place full of alpha males and empowered women
It's not hard to figure out what car that is when it says Ultima on the steering wheel lol
I dig the Taylor Swift in the back round
bad blood playing on the shops radio lol
its a ultimaGTR mr.regular
Congrats on the engine! It looks nice and clean inside, that should bode well for it's overall condition. I'm glad to see you got involved in the teardown; most guys with a car show would just drop off the motor and say "Ok, see you in six weeks!".
Impacting on chrome sockets?!
real people are always more interesting than fake people
love these project vids man! also Taylor swift songs in man shop.... gruuuunnnnttttt.
6:48 when a joke goes over everyone else' heads
It's awesome to see your world growing like this. I remember the first videos where I thought, there's no way something this funny will last very long. Years later and it's growing into a great show/channel/whatever. Happy for you to be able to do what you love. Thanks for consistently entertaining us.
hello from Australia m8
If he gave you the chrome valve headers, you should paint flames on them to make the engine go faster! :D
Lol I hear Bad Blood.
Wait, was that guy eating just a plate of cold cuts and a beer?
lol, it looks like that but if you pause the video when he is bending down you can see it is a salami and tomato sandwhich and a pepsi.
Heh, Air Tools, Propane Torch, Metric Nuts cry in Pain and BURNY BURNY! Dead Blow Hammer Bang! Bang! YES!
@RegularCars
That car is an Ultima GTR. It was a kit car from the early 2000's til 2015 and is one of the fastest cars in the world doing the quarter mile run in 9.9 seconds from factory. Is used a smallblock chevy V8 attached to a getrag transaxle.
Like so he can see.
That guy is super chill. Most shops' mentality is "drop off the engine and GTFO" - they don't even act like they like their job. This guy not only is likable but lets people help??? Fucking unicorn...
I just love seeing where this project is going. It is kind of like a low buck version of Road kill without the silly challenges or sponsorships hooking you up with freebies. This reminds me a lot of my high school and early Navy years when me and a few buddies set forth on building a project car or saving a hidden gem from the scrap yard by fixing it up or doing engine swaps, turbocharging, what ever the build required. Those weekends days after school were simply amazing and led to strong friendships and meeting new people with the same interests who enjoyed every moment of the builds as I did. Can't wait to see some more build progress Mr. Regular!
I had a 1979 Camaro 305 ci (insert joke here) in high school, gave it to my younger brother and bought a 1969 Impala 2 door 350 ci for $1000. I worked on the Impala all summer with a buddy and loved cruising in that car. Wish I still had it. Anyway, loved the video and it's inspiring me to find another muscle car. Would love a 65-67 GTO, but will probably settle for Chevelle. Looking forward to more of these build videos. Thank you.
At 7:43 it's now stripped to what I recognize as a Windsor block V8.... Maybe I should work on newer stuff...... Nah.
Love the glove comment HAHA! I wear gloves for EVERYTHING and get shit for it!!
Vagabond Falcon needs 302 EFI with limited slip rear diff (3..08 or 3.27 ratio) and AOD trannie. You could add in a/c for the summer. And definitely find a Retro radio which looks like the old-style AM/FM radio but is all modern inside with cd player. Hidden antenna using the roof like the modern Mustangs do. Front tubular K-member with coilovers.
I would have been sorely tempted to steal an ecoboost engine out of a modern Ranger or F150 just to get more power while being able to use 87 octane, but the hurdle that is negotiating a modern engine wiring loom and ECU is not an easy one to jump over, so I can understand going with a 302 instead. They're easier. No direct injection to fight with, no turbochargers to pipe up an intercooler for, no nanny-state machine looking over your shoulder to tell you when you can and can't have throttle and boost. I get it. But man would it be nice to get around 300-350HP from a 2.7L V6 while still getting acceptable fuel economy? Or, if you were insane enough, steal the drivetrain from a Fusion Sport and get the AWD to play nicely with the front end of a car that was definitely not designed to have half-shafts exiting the engine bay.
LOL .........you guys where lifting the engine in the back of the truck........With a engine hoist in the back tray of the pick up..........
The weekend playing in the background. Lol
Pittsburg? Pittsburg?! PITTSBURG?! Mr. Regular. I am offended. That H isn't the only thing that makes us special, but I'll be damned if I let it go!
I believe (Obviously someone will correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure. This *is* youtube and it's full of asshats OR people that mean well and don't intend to be like the asshats. It's a 50/50 mix, as I'm sure you guys at RCR know) the car you filmed at the end is a Toyota Ultima GTR.
Bruce Henn walks over casually holding a Pepsi and plate of Pepperoni (or something similar) just to see what's going on.
Too bad you couldn't find a '97-ish 5L Explorer (or it's Mercury twin)- those motors have the best heads & intakes ever put on a regular production SB Ford.
You mean to tell me Iron Man couldn't easily lift that by himself?
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH YOU LYF3?
I can remember driving out to the country with my Dad in my Mom's 1986 Dodge Ram pickup which had the most bizarre digital AM only radio. We picked up a Mopar 360 that had been in a police car. I can remember breaking it down like that with him before he had it bored .30 over and had it rebuilt.
Good choice. These engines are super easy to build and take apart, minus the stubborn center bolt holding on the upper intake on the efi models
Ouch. Next time I would take the intake man and heads off. Then it would probably only take a couple guys to lift the block. Of course you’d need tools... it would cut the total weight probably by 1/3 to a 1/2.
Ohh yeahhhh I love watching people get their hands dirty because I fucking hate having dirty hands.
I always, for whatever reason, have always liked that style of Thunderbird. So the fact that you're mixing it with an old Falcon makes me smile. Also the fact that it'll now be mildly quick doesn't hurt either.
Best of luck!
Reminds me of the time I helped my buddy move an MR2 SW20 shell without wheels
+RegularCars That's an Ultima GTR, it's like a racecar but I think you build it yourself, it has a 7.0 liter V8 I think
You should try electrolysis on small-medium parts before sandblasting. It takes longer to happen but saves you a lot of time in the long run. Also you don't wear down almost any good metal in the process, so you can effectively save parts that look wrecked. We only recently gave electrolysis a shot on our Series 3 Land Rover recently, and for example our tow hook back plate is gleaming (yet we dumped the chassis).
Finding barely edited engine work videos is really hard. I get more enjoyment out of building engines than drugs, and im not joking. In highschool i had a shop will all brand new snapon equipment and 6 lifts all rated at 10,000 lbs. Pretty much noone but me and a few of my friends used that shop. My teachers name was jason massey, he at the time owned illicit motorsports. During highschool i built 37 engines of all types displacements and varietys. The highest value engine i built went in an actual no vin ford prouced race mustang. The best part of all of this was my senior year i had one actual class which was english and the other 7 classes were all shop. So i did some serious work. I built a 400 and swaped it into a close friends 79 firebird, which was an automatic but i manual swapped to a muncie 4 speed as well. Probably some of the best fucking days of my life happened in that highschool shop. Id be lying if i said i didnt miss it.
"MY ASSHOLE'S METRIC" this is why I love watching your videos
That white car is an Ultima GTR, didn't know they came out in Convertible though
Hey RCR! Great video, lovely looking engine! You should post this on reddit on the /r/JustRolledIntoTheShop sub, should get some good attention there!
Tim Strickler (Pittsburgh Connection)
"ARRGHH, I'm so abrupt there's no time for that H!"
MANN GET THAT AIR INJECTION SYSTEM GOIN YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH GET THE CATS GOINN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so glad I have a subaru, I can take my engine out by myself, if I had a fast car I would need help like this, 4 dudes!? damn thats heavy, but soo worth it V8's rule!!
I don't know what it was but, just showing how you disassembled that 302 with normal discussions somehow made this very interesting.
Can't wait to see more stuff like this Mr Arr.
"MY ASSHOLE'S IN METRIC"
RegularCars-2015
More videos of the 302 teardown buildup please. I'm dying to learn how to build/rebuild an engine and I like how this video does it. Very little talking and no loud ass background music. Not to mention it's a video and not a damn slideshow.
That harness isn't worth it's time removing correctly..cut that 5.00 pos out the way
5:30 That beautiful moment when the tolerances on your Chinese socket, Mexican extension, American chuck don't cooperate.
I wish I found a place like this for my engine swap. The car has been sitting for a while because the shop is dragging their feet. I feel kinda bad neglecting it, but this inspired me to be more proactive with the project. Thanks Mr. Regular.
The car at the end is an Ultima Evolution Convertible kit car.
www.ultimasports.co.uk/Evo/Convertible
Something very therapeutic about ripping apart a small block, especially when you have the right tools and space to do it. Could have watched 2 hours of this. I could probably fall asleep to it.
Three of us lift Van engines into trucks on a weekly basis, and I'm only 5'10 and 145lbs come on man!
can i ask... why the 302? i mean ok more power better upgrades.. but its a 2 speed isnt it?
That head-mounted camera is making me seasick. Please just get a tripod for future videos. Thank you from a sick Canadian.
