As a plumber, if you caulk all the way around the bottom of the toilet, and the wax rings fails, then the water will have nowhere to go and you will never know that it has failed. Never caulk all the way around the toilet.
Yes lesson learned already. Thank you plumber. I teach that now.
Simply plumbing perfection. I did two of these yesterday. I came out of retirement to help a younger brother with his work load. For only a couple of months. That was 3 years ago LOL. I have been asked to train a number of new hires. Funny most think they know everything after a few months. I enjoyed.
you have skills we need to bottle. These young gunners.....lol
For some reason, that was relaxing. When I usually watch others do plumbing videos they either feel like a commercial, empty, or as if they were dead inside.
I think it’s awesome your teaching your son the trade. I work for my father in NC and I am an unlimited license plumber at 24 years old. I enjoy it. Not for everybody but tons of opportunities
so much work out there for sure....thats awesome
I'm re-installing 7 stools tomorrow at my church after a flooring job. We went with all new sloan valves, and this video was very helpful. thanks!
get er done.
Awesome channel man. Your sons are very lucky to have you around and also to be able to teach them not only plumbing but how to run a plumbing business.
I’m also a Barron from the west coast 🤘
New installs are usually very simple following the correct order of parts. I had one sensor valve not working out of the box. I quickly changed it to a manual and it flushed just fine. I changed the brand new out of the box batteries and the sensor worked. Its always something.
it's so easy. Im with ya..just had a faucet job missing black shower arm and escuseon.
Thanks for all the great videos..not a plumber just a diy guy... lots of great tips and entertaining videos, keep em coming...
thanks for tuning in DJ
Fantastic, great to see a passionate plumber I’m a huge Sloan Valve fan.
Same here!
Got to install 4 of these tomorrow for a clinic first time alone wish me luck guys 🙌🏻
you got this.
@@ChuckBarronJob turned in successfully 👍🏻 great video man
Great job! Nice to watch someone else install Sloan valves besides me. lol. In my area (Central KY), the ZURN flush valves are popular and less expensive.
ya I do not do many so a refresher and slow pace for sure for me.
Learned a lot from watching you!! I do this all day and come home and watch your videos! Plumb on! 💪🏻
Nice! are you a apprentice?
I am not I just really enjoy what I do
nice...thanks for tuning in.
I’m a 5th year apprentice and I did my first one today your video is spot on 🔥
Top shelf quality video
Passed my work keys test for plumber/pipefitter apprenticeship and now got an interview in 3 weeks!
awesome!! good luck luke
Nice job Chuck!
Thanks Anthony...Looking forward to closing this out movie theater reno out.
Good blessed day today mi amigo
Thought i was the only one that loved the smell of new parts!
the glisten of new chrome is sweet.
for the Closet Bolt Question I prefer 6" Channel Locks and to cut them loose or cut off excess I use a Cordless Angle Grinder (18v Red or 20v Yellow Brands) with a Cut Off Wheel.
Thank you for doing the "boop!" on both closet bolts! :)
lol.....i thought that was funny too.
I somehow won a battle with my wife and we are adding a urinal in our basement bathroom. Thank your for this video, I was able to assemble the sloan valve we got even though it didn't come with instructions!
nice...happy wife happy life.
I saved tons of money on calling a plumber just by watching your videos!
The net....a world of knowledge.
I have never used caulk on the bottom of a toilet before setting it on the flange. Seems like a pretty neat idea. Only problem I would foresee is the toilet leaking from the wax ring after you set it. It can get pretty messy to re-pull the toilet to check the problem out with all that fresh caulk you just applied. Just my thoughts.
that for sure be a mess.
I like Sloan and zurn flushometers
nice job chucky
thanks bkoz
Nice install of an American standard Madera!
Thanks Elyse. Plumb on.
Chuck Barron I just stumbled upon your Chanel today I really do enjoy plumbing but always like learning new things I actually collect toilets and urinals
oh sweet....where you out of?
Chuck Barron I'm in the DC area
nice.
"I love Sloan parts, especially when they're new." Hahaha
lol
Where is this place you didn't show it but it looks like a house
Excellent videoclip. I'd like to view the same, but only next time installing either an American Standard Afwall millennium, Crane Placidus or Kohler Stratton wall mounted commercial flushometer toilet in either 1.6 or 3.5 gpf sloan regal xl 115 flushometer valve.
Nice job again Boys! How about that tamper proof cover? I use a gear wrench on those Johnny bolts. "Got the shots" until next time.....plumb on!
left that off until all flushometers done...I had 20 installed. I put them on last. I know as soon as i put it on i have to take it off for some reason....lol
The only thing i hate about sloan valves is the black cover for no reason will start to leak. Nice job Cb, i use the pass thru ratchet to tighten the toilet bolts, and for the toilet seat
Nice....Ratchet sounds nice too.
The black plastic Sloan diaphragm covers tend to leak sometimes because they develop an invisible hairline crack in them. Other times i find it's because of high water pressure.
Will you make a video of installing a Sloan sensor flushometer?
Good job boys!. Hey lee what did u think about them channel locks? lol hahahahah
thanks Alex. We getting er done. Lee loves me pliers....lol
Thanks
The escutcheon set screw should be facing the floor. Isn't it best to leave a gap in the caulk under the toilet toward the rear so you can see any leak in the wax seal?
Yes. I was reminded of that and now do it myself.
Blue monster Teflon 🤘🏻 good stuff..
Anything based to the ground should be grouted , anything based on a wall should be poly-seamed sealed or caulked . Or less it’s a lavatory on a base...
Closed ratchet... works for me. ✌🏻
Is that s 1.28 gpf ?
Yes indeed.
I can see point....She sets so nice though.
Question: I have a couple of new toilets and seats to install in a commercial building, and do you know if it’s legal or not to install closed front toilet seats w/ lids (like the ones in your house) or do we have to use open front ones?
Open Front Darfield
Chuck Barron thanks Chuck!
Some public locations use closed front seats like Walmart because they are too damn lazy to install a open front seat as a proper replacement.
@@karl10317 what difference does it make?
14 toilets, sounds like cb2 has a good boost to the liquor fund!
oh ya.....he heading to mexico for spring break. lol
You know that I can install on TOTO CT705 and American Standard Madera? I can buy the TOTO Auto Ecoflush. This may hold the button longer when these 2 toilets flushes. Just like Zurn Omniflo Aquavantage Urinal.
interesting.
Most of us in my area use a product called set fast no cut toilet bolts they're 5/16 and they use a two-piece design and the stud does not have to be cut, you ought to check them out, saves time and that translates to saving money, not to mention getting upset in tight spaces keep up the good work
appreciate the tip Jay.
Ay tell CB2 don’t be soft.. AND THERE GOES ANOTHER SATISFIED CUSTOMER!!!! 🤙😎🤑🏄
ya man...its 22 degrees out this am....come on back dawg.
😂😂😂😂😂..... 😎🤙🏝🏄☀️
not funny....ha
Those American standard toilet bowls are called maderas! I have one in my toilet collection! It has a flushometer and everything. Check it out on my channel!
Roger that. thanks BTR
2:55 2:59 I heard him say good morning
lol indeed.
Looks good, I’ve never caulked a toilet before setting it, looks like a real good seal I’ll have to try it!
yes. very nice especially in commercial when it has time to set up.
Chuck, do you ever do a lot of underground work? I’ve been looking for a video for my new apprentices on groundwork, grading a ditch, measuring and accurately installing fixture stub-ups (like installing the underground work before the slab is even poured,no walls up). I’m a plumbing instructor, and explaining it to them on a white board seems to be tough to get the concepts across. I don’t want to call their journeymen complacent, but let’s just say that they don’t take the time in showing them this. Instead, the apprentices are tasked with backfilling ditches and being gopher’s for fittings, pipe, and glue. Do you have any videos for new construction start to finish underground work? Their seems to be videos for everything else on RUclips, but underground plumbing installation techniques seems to fall into a black hole on RUclips.
He has a couple videos of underground basement slab job for a house
ya i have a couple like alex was saying but not much..Thats another animal for sure...measure 3 times before you pour....ha
thanks alex.👍
@@ChuckBarron no problem CB
Everytime I have used that slip washer I get a leak. I use a dab if lube and I'm good.
ok cool hector...thanks for tip
What company makes that wax ring?
not sure....i would have to look in truck...supply house grade though

Welcome Brother.
@@ChuckBarron thanks brother.i do plumbing too
What toilets used to be in the building?
american standards.
This may sound weird but when I get my own place I’m thinking about getting a flushometer toilet installed
I have seen it. or air assisted flush toilet.
nothing gets clogged....
It doesn't sound strange to me. In fact that's what I prefer in my own private residential home bathroom, but I'd have to have the heavyduty plumbing equipment like at least 1" diameter pipe water supply line for example to accommodate such a high powered flushometer commercial toilet(s).
How many liters does use for flush?
1.6 gallons
You forgot to tighten the pipe escutcheon to the wall! Other than that I love watching a pro at work!!
I left on purpose. I had a nice allen set for CB2 to do all 20 flushometers we put in. a straight allen with a nice handle.
@@ChuckBarron, I knew you wouldn't leave it like that! 😀
Made my own tool for those escutcheons, took a piece of broken cable from a general snake ( 1/4" ) drilled a hole in it and brazed an Allen wrench in it ,worked great.
Is it possible to attach a bidet or Muslim shower to a flushometer?
not sure. have to look at specs
wow that's some ceiling tiles above that cubicle lol
Yes....some retro stuff there.
😀👍
Conner in da house!!
CB I was taught never to silicone the entire base of the toilet cause u will never know if there is a small leak from the flange or wax seal. What are your thoughts?
ya know i can see point but i like to seal to tile for sure. especially in commercial application...things can get wild and crazy at movie theaters. ha
Always caulk toilet
Most plumbing codes require caulking around perimeter of toilet base. Cant tell if there is a leak though so its one of those gray areas that a lot of plumbers shrug off.
yes...for sure. some folks like grout but we know tile guy is always long gone for sure.
tight seal when you get that bowl wax set....the best.
Where is this place it looks like a house
no sir.
Cuánto debe medir del muro al sanitario
Hello this is plumbing service. How can I help you? Can you replace my toilet please
Sealed a potty before testing.nice.
thanks
I like Sloan valves too, never been able to figure out what the paper gaskets for though on vacuum breaker
friction rings for sure.

ok
You are scratching the fittings they have a special tool

hmmm
@@ChuckBarroni was thinking that the toilet was installed maybe It flushes differently or maybe the flushometer
Should have wrote on bathroom wall. "Looking for a good plumber call Barron"
CB1 was here....lol
American standard madera
Yes Sir.
CB-1 I didn't see you tighten up the set screw for the a scussion plate lol I see everything. Peace brother
Good eye...CB2 was on that detail for 23 flushometers. ha.
Never saw anybody call a toilet that way , not saying it's wrong.
this is what Im hearing since i posted.. been doing it for years. anyway Happy Monday!
This kind of toilet, the Madera from American Standard, seems to get a ton of unnecessary hate...
I like the Madera terlits of the 2012 onwards (dip in back rim by spud) that have a lot of swirl to clean the bowl and the ones that get the hate have very little or none at all. Wonder if this is a design change, factory QA problem, or factory being careless with rim hole placement.
I collect flushometers for fun I can rebuild a flushometer in like 1 minuet and I am 17
Nice.
You never put silicone on the contour of the base of the toilet, because it traps moisture and the soil can rot. The wax plumbing donut does all the work of sealing.
I leave a opening in back for that now.
Been plumbing for close to 10 years now on new construction and T.I.s. There has always been that discussion of the correct way of doing it, and for the most part, we have all agreed that leaving a gap on the back is the best way. It allows professionals to see that nothing is leaking and/or flooding, but it looks aesthetically pleasing to the average joe who isnt looking at those details.
Invest in a knipex plier wrench, you'll save time and don't beat up the chrome parts ;)
those are the flat jaw version of ridgid pipe wrench
@@bkoz319 spud wrench or 9 1/2 inch offset hex wrench will do the job with no marring. Ridgid makes some really great wrenches with lifetime warranty of the tool
yes...wait till you see my upcoming vid with some crazy pliers i purchased at supply house....they going back for sure....
yes they are.
wrench is sweet. i never had one....now i do.
Open plumbers discussion
now what Jeremy?
you also mentioned flange? you know that was pvc right in last vid?
Closet flange? I assume you know I meant that instead of an industrial mechanical flange... Since you are working on the toilet after all
I'm not trying to create comments drama, I already un subbed and just do what I've been doing for the past 7 years and learn from my boss. I like the way he teaches me how to not half ass jobs so well wishes for you, people that do the job wrong keep me in business...
Send me link of your boss's fav or proper flange for this application. I love to share info...we have no ego here.
For the size of the asses now a days they’re going to have to start making the seat a four bolt install….
You should cover the chrome before you put a pipe wrench on it so you don’t mar the finish. Looks better. Just my two cents
wrench is toothless. good stuff for sure. I would like to get knipex pliers though. I think i spelled it correctly.
It looks like a good tool. We normally use the Irwin adjustable pliers. Have you used it a lot on older corroded flushometers? That's what we deal with a lot. Sometimes we have to put them on the chain vise to get the cap off.
wow.....crazy....corroded im sure.
Why would you ever caulk the bottom of a toilet . Toilets are made to have repairs done , caulking them you have to start cutting the caulk to rip the toilet out and if it’s caulked and sealed and the toilet is leaking you won’t know because the caulk is sealing the leak . Stupid move , rookie mistake
In 50 some years of plumbing I also never caulked the bottom of a toilet unless I was asked or instructed to, the caulk gets dirty and looks crappy (pun intended) over time. The only thing I caulked is a couple 1000 lead joints LOL!⚒
John Krim right on man 👍👍
No rookie here TT. I been doing it for years. I have also pulled many toilets with caulk bottoms. Many of cut with razor knife to get em out too. Must be a south jersey thing. I do see your point though.
ok. a common thing here.
Chuck Barron sorry chuck wasn’t calling you a rookie I apologize if I said that wrong . Your a great plumber I’ve watched a few of your videos
This sucks. If you can't hear your plumb out of luck
