Man, I have to say, your videos are the best plumbing videos out there. I'm a maintenance engineer in a big office bldg. and sometimes I have to do plumbing jobs. Now I'm pretty good at figuring stuff out, but watching your videos makes it easier because all of the "figuring out" stuff and little tips and tricks, have already been figured out by you. Thanks again and please keep them coming. BTW, I think it's awesome that you're teaching your sons the trade. They may not know it now, but knowing a trade like this will pay of huge for their futures. These types of jobs are dying out in this generation as everyone is pushing college. But the fact that your oldest is going to college for a business degree is super smart.
Wow ty for this! I’m an apprentice plumber that is gonna install some disablility urinals for first time. With this video I’ll be ready!. I give you my gratitude good sir!
I'm a first year apprentice and I haven't had a chance to install a urinal yet. We mostly do apartments and residential. Thanks for sharing its less complex then I expected
Yes!!! And just like everybody see's your finished product working, everybody should see the effects of corporate, political , meddling... I have to stop myself. It's sunday and I have to enjoy my grandbabies. Thank you for your videos and sharing. I tell my grandkids to watch your channel all the time!
so i want to install a urinal in my workshop/ garage. i looked for a video to do so and came across yours. thanks i now have a plan to install mine. great video showing usual challenges and well worth the watch.
Great job! I like the video as someone who has be turning pipes for 30 years mostly residential, it's nice to learn more about the commercial side. My advice to other plumbers watching, invest in tools that speed you up. Lightweight is more expensive but worth every penny, speed release cutters and auto cutters, a set of the same brand drill and impact with same battery types and ratcheting box wrenches. I spent 25 years working late and weekends, I don't anymore. Your time is way more valuable than money the best tools for the job will get you home earlier.
I have to repair a leaking urinal at my church tomorrow and had never seen one installed before. I now know exactly where to look for the problem (gasket at wall drain.) Thanks for the video.
Last year someone threw one of those green toothpick/floss picks that got stuck along with gum, spit, what ever. I pulled urinal and cleaned line out. Put urinal back on wall and reached down for nuts and heard *tink* The bracket pulled away from wall and shattered the damn thing. It's one of those low flush things that doesn't play well with the drain set up. Thanks for upping the vid Chuck!
nice channel man... trying to get into plumbing myself.. very helpful. i like the fact that there isnt alot of editing so the audience can go through the whole proccess and really learn.
you probably dont give a shit but if you guys are bored like me atm then you can watch pretty much all the latest series on instaflixxer. I've been watching with my brother lately :)

Yep every journeyman plumber i had that always told me "my kids are in college so they can do better then me" was a great plumber and person funnily enough
A little " tech tip " cb 1 , we always put a little wax on the wall drain fitting ,push the ring on and put wax on urinal side of ring , never a leak !
11:49, was an eye opener for me, I was sweating bricks at work because I didnt wanna mess up the heights since I though ooo theres no flexible hose here to save my hide. So it seems the correct center of the water supply matters more than the height. pheww
I've installed the same urinal and flush valve in my shop. No matter where I adjust the regulator it does the same small amount of water to flush. Like maybe 2 seconds of a flush. On your video it runs for quit a bit longer.
Sitting on my chair watching other people plumb while I'm on call for emergency drain line calls and having thawed out frozen sewer lines all day long. I must be insane or really like plumbing. Haven't decided which yet haha.
I love it too....where you still thawing sewer lines out at? what is your method of a frozen sewer? just curious. We rarely have that here in south jersey.
Matt...I do it as well...lol. One would think that... when we Plumbers are done for the day, we wouldn't be looking at trade stuff online. I'm addicted to the trade as well bud.
@@ChuckBarron I'm in Montana we are starting to come out of a deep freeze. Had quite a few lines freeze up this year actually. We use the arctic blaster. Its essentially a cast iron box that we fill with water and shoot flames into with a propane tank. It comes with a hose that we can feed into a clean out to melt the ice. It's been pretty good although it takes a while for it to work due to the cold.
Thanks for sharing your video. Which drill bit is best for tiles. Used a standard one for bricks the other say, drilling carefully and the tile still cracked.
Hi there; another maintenance tech here, with a question: our American Standard urinal is clogged (those damned kids!) and we have to remove it to find the foreign object causing the problem. (We have plunged and snaked to no avail.) Am I going to have to contend with glue in addition to bolts fastening the darned thing to the wall? How does one deal with that? Is there some kind of solvent that is used to drip down the back side of the urinal, or what? Obviously, I have never had to do this before. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
With my luck Chuck, those urinals would come crashing down if I wall plugged them. Instead of using china fixtures in public bathrooms, it should be mandatory to use penal toilets and sinks. lol I take care of a couple of public rest rooms, and those people are freaking animals!! I've had to replace broken toilet flanges/toilets/urinals, cause guys get drunk and start acting stupid. The women's bathroom is always the worst, and I say to myself "who in their right mind would marry one of these broads", with how filthy it is in here.
Good afternoon i watch your Channel down here in México and i enjoyed it very much. I just have one question I bought a urinal just like the one you just instales but it doesnt have the stud. I just want to know the side of the stud i need thank you and have a great day
Alright heres an update on my plumbing journey. I had gotten a job at southern agriculture and was recently fired because I said "yes sir" to a man dressed as a woman and "Thank you ma'am" to a new co worker. This week I have gotten an interview with a plumber out of Jinks OK who will take me on as an apprentice and start pay would be 15$ an hour. Ill keep you updated after the interview.
Wow. Seth, ur doin it right. Its the world we now live in. I just recently found out its politically incorrect to Use the term oriental when refering to asians. Its a shame that sometime the stakes are that high. These people are thin skinned morons.
Hey Chuck, new subscriber here and hopefully a new apprentice by the years end.. I enjoy watching your experiences in the field and would appreciate if you could vocalize any tips and tricks during your installs. Its probably second nature to you and guys who have been in the trade a while, but I think newbies could really benefit. For example in this video I was curious what type of adhesive you're using, how tight you are torqueing everything, what you are looking and listening for when testing the install, etc. Thanks!
Aaron in Da House!! Awesome stuff. Thanks for the questions I will for sure. I get wrapped up in trying to finish and or make sure its not a leaker i sometimes do not communicate info for you young gunners. Thanks for the pointer. I was using phenoseal caulk, and tighten till she snug. never over tighten she will crack and that is NO BUENO!!..
How much water should be left on the urinal drain after flushing? above the rim or below? if below how much low? just flush to the rim or below .5 inch?
American Standard sets you up for failure with their rough in measurement of 17-1/2” from the center of the drain to the center of the oblong slot on their hanger brackets. You would think they would be able to make these urinals uniform enough to give a n exact measurement to the top or bottom of the bracket, itself, instead of to the center of the slot in the bracket. There have been several times I have installed that exact same urinal where that slot didn’t even allow for enough play for the drain bolts to hit the holes in the urinal. I have learned to center the slot screw at 17-1/4”, like you did, but I then do a dry run with just that one screw tight and adjust as necessary, then drill the top two holes in the brackets. So many contractors are using porcelain tile instead of ceramic tile these days, so I can’t afford the additional time and drill bits it takes to drill additional holes. Porcelain tile is so much harder than the ceramic tile you drilled through.
Nice job on the install Chuck. Looking sharp. I did my fair share of caulking when I was an apprentice. A bad caulk job can make a sharp install look rough. Most of the time now I just go with the caulk that goes on white and dries clear. White caulk tends to stick out like a sore thumb on any tile or grout that is not white. Clear caulk hides a multitude of sins. CB2 will get to practice his caulking Zen.
oh its coming. and the clear will be the ticket. and a small tip cut for the young buck. that gonna be a week from now because he bout to board flight to cancun.....spring break with his crew....look out.
Was wondering if you’ve ever tried using self centering drill bits? Depending on application, they work pretty well. Also, do you find that most ppl don’t consult with you before demo, to save time/money; or for the most part....you get called in after the fact etc....for a project(if get involved from start, do you think things run smoother/better, or doesn’t really matter any)? Cheers👍🏻
Cb, they have a different pilot, but I never use those on tile. if you want not to pre punch, you can use a piece of thick lexan with a hole, that will be your guide. I wouldn't dare use a hammer drill, Mr Murphy would get me and crack the tile. I just use diamond bits with some water. takes longer but no busted tile!!
Yeah they ate mostly used on wood, drywall, & dine metal. Never used I tile myself, but as long as have right bit, should work. Know able to replace bits when break in self center bit with Allen wrench...do don't see why could replace with tile bit; but never tried myself. Would be interested to know if works or not
The wax seals work good as long as you set the urinal like a water closet wax seal.... the first time and not break the seal. If not they tend clog at the flange.
I like American Standard urinals. It don’t stick out too much and looks good. I wish I had one in my home because I’m so sick of using a toilet just to piss.
CB-1 nice job but if I was you I would purchase the Knipex pliers wrench it's 10 times faster then using the wrench that you were using. I love my set you will thank me later after you buy them and try them. Peace brother
I hope that wasn't some type of adhesive that he just caulked on the back of that urinal because from a service plumber standpoint if I had to yank that thing off the wall to cable that drain there'd be a problem
Thanks for content never installed a urinal being mostly residential but looks like same old same old once you know plumbing theres nothing you can do all same principals apply to everything crazy how vast plumbing field can get. Keep up great content that was a smooth install brother banging it out
I’m installing a bathroom in my basement,I told my wife I want a urninal In it,my wife is flipping out lol,but they actually make nice residential ones
Thanks a bunch man. You just made me seem alot smarter. I knew when I heard your voice you'd set me right. I learned the trade in S. Jersey. In alaska now and it's the same shit.
Hey Chuck! Another awesome video. There goes another satisified youtuber! lol. I had a quick question if you have the time. I was super curious about how that urinal connection is made behind the wall. I'm in Mass and a lot of guys say the urinal connection can ONLY be made with lead and oakum. In the MA codebook, it explicitly states: Urinal waste branches and urinal fixture wastes shall conform to the following: 1. They shall be made of: a. extra heavy or service weight cast iron soil pipe and fittings with caulked joints b. threaded cast iron pipe with cast iron drainage fittings; or c. iron size copper or brass pipe with cast brass drainage fittings Which seems to make a lot of guys wrong on the subject, or am I wrong about this? I guess my question to you is, do you use a threaded piece in the wall cut to the proper length to make the connection, or is the piece caulked with lead and oakum? I'm just trying to sort this out and I really appreciate your help my friend. Keep up the excellent work!
@@ChuckBarron Thanks Chuck! It's funny, in my code class the teacher said they word the code book the way they do to avoid confusion. I mean, that's a real hoot right there lol! anyways, I hope you have a great day man and don't work too hard.
Homedepot sells those brackets surprisingly enough....just an fyi Shame most people will never understand how horrible it is to work on a used urinal or god forbid an old one with an external trap....
Urinals made today have their traps molded into the fixture.... Years ago they use to have a spud on the bottom where you would install a trap, like you find under a sink... and as for the smell that comes from the drain when you remove a urinal from the wall....well its enough to choke a sewer fly.. next to a grease trap, hands down the worst smell in the world...not counting dirty people...

Chuck Barron how far in do you usually go with the inside cutters chuck? I’m installing three tomorrow this video was a good refresher thanks.
CB-1 nice job but if I was you I would purchase the Knipex pliers wrench it's 10 times faster then using the wrench that you were using. I love my set you will thank me later after you buy them and try them. Peace brother
thanks makita. appreciate the tip.
No Ada urinal ?
In the other bathroom.
Keep up great content that was a smooth install brother banging it out
Thanks for stopping by.....we plugging along.
Niiiiiiiiiiiice!
Thank you Thank you Thank you for filming this! This gives me the confidence to install one in my own bathroom! 👏

Thanks a bunch man. You just made me seem alot smarter. I knew when I heard your voice you'd set me right. I learned the trade in S. Jersey. In alaska now and it's the same shit.
lol...what up brother.
Wow!
Bam!
Hey Chuck! Another awesome video. There goes another satisified youtuber! lol. I had a quick question if you have the time. I was super curious about how that urinal connection is made behind the wall. I'm in Mass and a lot of guys say the urinal connection can ONLY be made with lead and oakum. In the MA codebook, it explicitly states:
Urinal waste branches and urinal fixture wastes shall conform to the following:
1. They shall be made of:
a.
extra heavy or service weight cast iron soil pipe and fittings with caulked joints
b.
threaded cast iron pipe with cast iron drainage fittings; or
c.
iron size copper or brass pipe with cast brass drainage fittings
Which seems to make a lot of guys wrong on the subject, or am I wrong about this? I guess my question to you is, do you use a threaded piece in the wall cut to the proper length to make the connection, or is the piece caulked with lead and oakum? I'm just trying to sort this out and I really appreciate your help my friend. Keep up the excellent work!
like all plumbing in NJ. we can use abs or pvc flanges. Brass does come with urinals.
@@ChuckBarron Thanks Chuck! It's funny, in my code class the teacher said they word the code book the way they do to avoid confusion. I mean, that's a real hoot right there lol! anyways, I hope you have a great day man and don't work too hard.
Don't you hate then the bolts slide or the gasket doesn't want to fit just right a little pipe dope on the back of it does wonders
Not a good choice of anchors for a wall hung bracket ! But overall good vid
Lubricate all rubber baskets with water , then tighten
some plumbers grease. thats what i used.
Silicone grease
The good ol hammer fist lol
year right.
You really like rough talkin that thing. Givin it the business
Homedepot sells those brackets surprisingly enough....just an fyi Shame most people will never understand how horrible it is to work on a used urinal or god forbid an old one with an external trap....
ya...money spent and saved all in the same sentence.
Can you elaborate a little on the issues you refer to.?
Urinals made today have their traps molded into the fixture.... Years ago they use to have a spud on the bottom where you would install a trap, like you find under a sink... and as for the smell that comes from the drain when you remove a urinal from the wall....well its enough to choke a sewer fly.. next to a grease trap, hands down the worst smell in the world...not counting dirty people...
Vaticider69 , thanks, ..
might need bett baking on wall looks like them lill anhores might not last wax or culk aron drin bott mayb u can do some mob or gansert vids with chris chirsty
