This is so thorough, you can reference different methods to suit your own specific problem, this is gonna save me, one of the 2 dolls I bought ages ago to customize has a cracked neck, no bar, AND no neck peg.
Have you ever considered making a pirate doll? That could be an option in the next stockbox series? You're so creative and I'd honestly love to see what you do with a pirate
That's an amazing suggestion but the stockbox series of dolls is meant to go in with no prior thought, she's made exceptions before but I think she mainly goes in with no theme! (I suspect this is for the fun of making things on the spot, it really keeps things interesting, y'know?)
@@repoasta She does go in with an initial idea that's voted on by viewers, either a theme (like "Unicorn" for Guinevere) or just going off the doll itself. It's planning that she doesn't go into a Stockbox project with. So, "Pirate" is a viable option for a Stockbox doll. I'd vote on it if it showed up in the next vote, there's lot's of different designs that could be made depending on what doll would get used.
I remember my favourite Barbie doll breaking her head when I was young, I used to cry a lot because I didn't know how to fix her... And I also remember how nobody helped me fixing her! This video defenitively would helped my young-self :,3
Right! My grandpa "fixed" mine (he did his best, it was really sweet) but it meant her neck was too short and she glue coming out the neck. She looked so bad! He was really handy, which is why he fixed her for me. But if this video existed, he could have used this to figure the mechanism out and make it like nothing even happened.
My mom would throw away headless Barbies, so I quickly learned how to get the neck pegs back into the neck, and even retrieve them if they were rattling around the head. Fortunately I never had truly broken pegs! My middle pulled the head off one of my oldest's favorite Rainbow High dolls. It took me AGES to get it back together, and even now it's a dicey fix. I can't cut it up or use any of these fixes without my daughter absolutely losing it (the doll was a Christmas gift from her grandma and not many Christmases with her remain), so dicey fix it has to be!
for remaking an neck bar I've found cutting a thicker sewing needle (from a dollar store) to size works wonders. If u slip the new bar inside the hole in the peg when u pop it back on it'll just fall into place using the method at 1:48 (where u just pop it back into the neck). Getting it open a little while u slip it in also makes it easy to get glue between the cracks to seal 'em up. Ive also found moving the peg till the glue dries helps it to maintain motion
I really do love method 2 and how much movement it still retains. When I first saw you do this method, it blew me away bc it seems so simple yet effective. I think I really like ball jointed dolls lol
With fixing the neck bar, I’ve actually had luck replacing it back to front in a similar manner as the first example without it showing through to the front. In my experience, there’s a little grove on inside of the front neck section where the original neck bar slots into and if you line up a hole in the back you can slide a new bar into that same grove. Then there’s only one visible hole and it’s on the back of the neck where it’s the easiest to cover. I think your method is much sturdier in the long run though so there’s that to consider as well. :)
I've actually used epoxy sculpt on a Lagoona doll to make small gills on the side of the neck to hide the neck bar or any other seam fix. Helped keep it all together & looked pretty good ^_^
Seems like the same could be done for a Frankie doll if you're willing to make her a little less mobile at the neck joint - but by emphasizing the new neck bar with little bolt ends! That's if the Frankie base is going to still be a Frankie by the time the project's done, anyway.
For sculpting a new neck peg you really don't need the long part just the small dome at the base. I swap all my dolls heads around and so to make that easier I cut the length off and shave down the sharp bits.
I do the same too! The second, longer part isn't useful for mobility or solidity... I think it's just there to make the heads harder to remove (maybe for young kids' safety?)
If your neck peg isn’t broken but the plastic around the neck has chipped (most common with older Barbies I think) what I do is mix up equal parts acrylic nail powder and liquid, it makes a paste that’s easy to manipulate into the cracks and chips and dries super hard. I’ve filled in huge chunks of chipped necks like this. Just make sure you keep moving the neck peg around as you build up the material to keep articulation. Its honestly surprisingly effective.
Wow this video is amazing. You can see she really cares about the quality by simple things like the little added rendering. Like this moment I’m particular 6:40 this video is an actual masterpiece!
I remember when I broke the neck peg of my first ever and favorite custom at age 12. I was devasted and simply hot glued a cut qtip to the neck (a terrible solution). A year later I realized I could just switch her body lol. To be fair to my younger self, I had no idea what I was doing. It was back when I hot glued nylon hair to the head bc I didn't have a reroot tool, couldn't figure out how to get doll buzzcuts bald, made all clothing without patterns, didn't know what to repaint faces with, and watched myfroggystuff like my life depended on it lol. I had no clue what I was doing till I found your channel!
Oh how I wish this video existed when I was working on my first custom! The base was an EAH Kitty Cheshire and to say the neck area basically disintegrated is an understatement. Pretty sure her neck peg is still rattling around in her head and the bar ended up snapping away with a significant portion of the front of her neck. Tried to use superglue to repair the neck but it unfortunately failed me and ended up resulting in a larger break in the process. Luckily EAH heads are so bulbous that with a little bit of posing I could conceal the break and just superglue the head directly on to the neck. 😅 Thanking the doll gods that I haven't had a neck problem that severe with my customs since, but I'm incredibly thankful this reference exists in case it ever happens again!
I was trying to remove the head of a Clawdeen Wolf (from the line when the arms were stiff and the body and the neck peg were one piece) and the neck completely broke! Luckily I could just glue the neck back together but this is definitely a helpful tutorial.
I have several broken fashion dolls and even though I restore and repair antique dolls, it never occurred to me to try to fix these. Great video with clear descriptions of the whole process.
This has absolutely no use to me because I doubt I'll ever get into doll customization and yet I watched the entire thing because I love Katherine's creativity lmao

I bought a Clawdia used at a thrift store last year and her poor neck broke so all these methods and helpful detailed instructions are a lifesaver!!! Thank you so SO much, Dollightful!!! 🥺
Because of this video I was able to repair my 4 year old daughter's brand new Barbie after she decapitated it. I think she believed it would pop back on like a Lego minifig head and she cried so much when she realized it was broken. I thought fixing it was going to be impossible, but thanks to your instructions it was easy. Thank you so much!👏🏾
This is so helpful! I’ve been a fan of Monster High since they first came out and I’ve wanted to customize some of the new dolls - but got worried about the neck pegs. I will fear no longer! Love your videos, hope you and your family are well. 💕
I know this video has been out for a minute and I doubt the dollightful will ever actually see this but it's worth a shot. I think it would be super cute to see a fuzzy yellow duck doll for the spring I noticed in her yarn collection that she has a pale yellow that would be perfect for a baby duck
The excess Apoxie scramble is real 😆 Some things I've sculpted with mine are an m&m (I put it on a chain and made a necklace, hehe) a rupee from the Legend of Zelda, and a candy cane
Very useful information! Are there any doll customizers who have NEVER broken a doll's neck peg??? Oh! And for a moment there, I wasn't sure we were going to get our kitty fix. Thanks for not forgetting to film one of your adorable cats!
Awesome video! In my experience, I had managed to craft a sufficient replacement neck peg out of just wires. I used thinner jewelry wire to create the base loop, then used a much thicker wire (the kind that takes lots of effort to bend and thus certainly wouldn't bend accidentally) to act like the wing structure found on manufactured neck pegs. This type of peg does require one to work the doll's head on more carefully and deliberately as opposed to just cramming it back on, but it works pretty well with just a couple tweaks.
OMG, Thank you! I needed this! I was just customizing my latest doll and the neck peg broke! (Its an old Ever After High doll I got from a thriftstore) 😢 I had to pause my project for a bit because I didnt know what to do... well, now I do! ❤ (Used method 1 this time, fyi.)

holy carp! Thank You so muchi! I've been thinking of doing a custom doll for a while but always came too the conclusion that I wanted to remove the head eventually to switch it and the BJD, elastic to hook method seems perfect! I've been watching your videos for so many years and never moved a single finger to actually try my hand at costumizing any of my dolls (the content is very satistying and fun to watch). This video gave me hope that it could be fixed. The break is pretty bad, I might have to use method 1 AND 2 to fix it, but thank you so much for sharing this. I genuinely had no idea where to even start the approach and now there's a whole entire tutorial from my favorite doll costumizing/content channel!!! Thank you so so so much!! Love your work! Hope motherhood is treating you well!! Sending love from Brazil!! ❤❤❤❤❤
i just found your youtube again, i’ve moved three times since i started watching you (when i was i think 7) i didn’t have a google account on my TV when i used to watch your videos, but you were my whole childhood
When I have spare molding material while sculpting I make little flowers hearts or beads. I don’t usually have a ton of excess, I like to think I’m careful but over the years I’ve accumulated a small mason jar of them. They make great little gifts or just a spare piece to add to another project. Not the most creative use, but it’s a fun thing to have on hand.
Thank you so much! I have an additional suggestion, with your wire and rebuilding neck peg I thought "why do you have to throw away the plastic peg" and I have successfully fixed a neck peg by making a new wire loop and attaching the existing peg to the wire - saved me using apoxie and throwing out the plastic peg! Good as new.
What an interesting video! I'm not powerful enough to customize dolls, but it's still really cool to see the solutions you come up with. I feel like someone could make decent money 3D printing replacement pegs, bars, and even entire necks to sell as quick fixes.
I literally have like 5 dolls who have broken neck pegs and it’s just a box of heads at this point. This is SO SO useful!! Can’t wait to do this!! I might also make a resin mold for the neck peg I have who’s bar broke so I can create one as well in case!
Och I wish I had this instructions few months back when I broke neck peg for my rainbow high. She ended upp with just roration an no tilting as I could not think on a good solution for this. Now I'll know what to do if it ever happen again!
I found a paperclip hook passed through a little wooden bead placed inside the head (reroot was completed), then wrapped directly to the hip pegs with thin ribbons is working fine for my doll! I'd recommend a thin elastic instead to better secure it of course. I was simply creating neck articulations as opposed to repairing, for which I absolutely looove your techniques and would've used them had I known them! Also that arrowhead on top functions a lot like a Bodkin arrowhead, its designed to cause more damage before being extracted and upon buying any dolls I just cut it away. Great video as always! I hope to use this method to create articulations on a doll or two if I can! Thanks 😄
This could help in the future, OOOH I love that hairstyle save that 5:23 for mermaid, dragon, fairy, pokemon any project idea in the future! I wonder what the G3 are going to be & as for G1 Lagoona who got elf ears a Water fairy for the summer perhaps.💖

I'm sure someone sells them; there is certainly a market for it haha
Do i customize dolls? No... Have I been diligently watching every dollightful video for the past 5 years? Yes. Yes I have.
This video is a lifesaver, i just broke a neck peg on a g3 Frankie I'm planning to customize and i was devistated. Tysm!
Thanks 😄
i cannot tell you how many of my dolls have broken necks
thank you for doing this and allowing me to have my dolls back
I love watching little videos you have of your kitties at the end, they’re so cute!
I have a few decent bodies with broken neck pegs, thank you this will come in handy
I always love the little kitty treats at the end of your videos
I really can’t wait to customize one of these dolls!!!
