Yeah honestly it could have been really cool if the backstory/bios would have leaned in on the looks of the dolls, like that everything happens in the somewhat past (because the hair and clothes really feel more 50's to 70's) and they go to some gothic old-timey school. Like working with using the limitations of the dolls as an advantage.
Yeees! And I recommend watching Zombie Land Saga. Lots of Japanese Media has this "Zombies living normal lives" concept. My first one was Sankarea, which I dont recommend because it covers inc*st.
Yesterday, my partner had a really concerned face and said "Ok, but if zombies are decaying, how come they are still able to stand up? They're not supposed to have any inner ear left to keep balance" and that's such a valid concern. These dolls are so cool, especially later ones! The execution is rough, but the concept art is great
Okay, but.... Zombies are not just suddenly alive again corpses, it's actually humans that was controlled by force of something. By magic, illness, some weird science or even fungus. First myth of zombies was a living humans that was mind controlled after disturbing torture
I think on paper Mystixx is a really interesting concept, the idea of being able to switch a dolls face has a lot of potential if executed well. But that was the problem with Mystixx, it wasn't executed well, mainly due to how cheaply made the dolls were. I never owned them personally but even looking at the stock photos you can tell that they were made as cheaply as possible I would definitely not mind if someone did decide to revisit the concept of a doll that can change it's face, but I just hope that it's done better
@@juliamavroidi8601 I was curious, so I took a look. There were face plates in the inner monster line, which was about creating custom dolls. I think it would be really cool to see something like that as a part of a core doll line.
I actually got one of the rococo Azra dolls when I was buying a bundle of used Monster High dolls. She didn't come with any of her clothes or wig. I didn't know anything about Mystixx, so thank you for solving the mystery behind the doll.

Heya! Great video essay. I am a Russian doll collector and wanted to give some insight on the topic. Yes, it is a very common practice for American companies to ship off remaining stock of their dolls to Europe and Russia in particular. This happened to Mystixx, Mystikats, Struts and so many more brands. Additionally, one of the reasons why Mystixx were so popular is because of their more affordable price point (equivalent to $15 most of the times) while MH dolls consistently were growing in price (25-30$). Additionally, Russian collectors don’t care and support all knockoff and fakie doll brands; as long as dolls are good, there are no moral high ground like American collectors seem to have in regards to MH vs doll lines they inspired like Once Upon a Zombie or Mystixx. So yeah, that’s the reason why the biggest collectors and lovers of playhut dolls like Mystikats and Mystixx are both Russians:D I suggest you do research Mystikat, as they are my favourites and have cool doll history. Plus there are reference to them in Mystixx which is why it was popular to believe they share the same doll universe. In short, Mystixx rule and I still try to complete my collection❤ Also your mistake regarding MH G2 was very funny😂😅
Can you still get them in Russia (second hand)? I just did a deep dive and there seemed to be a few sites where I could buy a zombie rococo doll, though I don't know how reliable google translate is on that front 😂
Went and watched the Mystixx music video bc of this and even for 2012 that production looked fanmade at best. These dolls seem like a great concept that got kneecapped by cutting corners every which way. I don't like labelling any similar product a copycat of another but this definitely earned the Monster High At Home label, which is a shame.
I just remembered i still have a novi stars doll, my aunt got me Una Verse for my birthday, and i absolutely LOVED HER, although her hair is a bit messy by now and her dress is slightly ripped at the back. She's still my favorite doll (Sorry if i spelled or wrote something wrong, English isn't my first language)
33:11 you know what that's such a good point - Even if they made them all a "were " option like werewolf, werefox, were raven It would have been a simple way to involve theme more
I literally was too old for the Bratz style dolls and weren’t even interested in Barbies growing up, but this entire video was engrossing! Also wtf with the ponytaur line that looks like Toy Story’s Sid literally fused a poor pony and baby doll together omg
YO the angelic layer dolls in the background ????? like i know this is the place to see em but i never thought i WOULD see them just hanging in the bg of a youtuber's video haha
I watched Grimm. Every episode started with a quote from a Brother's Grimm tale that would forshadow the story or the creature that episode would feature. None of them looked like those dolls lol. It was a pretty good show (horrifyingly dated 2010s graphics tho) until the writers fell into the trap of retconning their own lore too much (just like the lore writers for these dolls i guess lol)
Watched it, too. As someone fluent in German the creatures names were so cringe.. like the Hexenbeast (Witchbest) or Reinigen for the rat people that translates into "Cleaning". And yeah it ended in a mess, didnt even finish it. The dolls maybe just wanted to give a dark european fairytale vibe. Grimm also means dark/edgy/fierce/grunty.
was NOT expecting to hear about grimm. god what a throwback. show concept was like one upon a time crossed with teen wolf. and is a police procedural with the attitude of house md. hilarious. honestly i shoud rewatch it.

You are genuinely so underrated and I hope you continue to make videos and continue to grow. You definitely earned me as a subscriber :)
such an amazing video! Mystixx has always boggled me since i first watched the music video at 12 and for years its driven me slightly insane just how few people actually knew of it. I remember watching the music video in a compilation video of a bunch of the different doll music vids at the time and it never left me. As a kid, the mystixx doll line was one I did look for, but I guess they never sold in my area as I never could find one. I've tried to do my own research in the past of the doll line but never had the time to go very deep into it, so this video means so much to me!
I do think the designs are cute, but these dolls always felt so cheap to kid me. I love some of the outfit pieces, in terms of design, though. I would love to try and recreate them myself but with nicer fabric.
I remember when I first discovered Mystixx. It was through a post about Monster High bootlegs and ripoffs in an MH Spanish blog. I remember the owners were pretty impressed with the head-turning gimmick.
I love vids about old fashion doll lines! I never knew these existed, thank you for making this, super cool. I see what they were going for but I think the 2 faces would have freaked me out lol.
I WATCHED GRIMM!! I was wondering if it could possibly be a reference. so yeah it's a story that references fairy tales a lot, but also, the supposed fairy tale characters were just.. they had secret animal faces. that was basically it. they looked perfectly human to normal humans but then the "grimm" could see them for what they truly are. they morphed into animals. foxes, wolves, even lion and turtles, any animal you could imagine. and they tied those to fairytale characters.
Im sure it mustve been hard to plan the script around the outfit change but I'm so glad you stuck to it cuz I got so delighted everytime you swapped faces :3
I wanna pick Grimm back up. It was such a cool show and the lore was fun to play with. I used to watch it consistently, but fell off in outrage because they did my girl Juliette so dirty I couldn't get past it.
This was an excellent video! I heard about these dolls when the recocco ones came out from a review and then never heard of them again, so this was a blast to the past! I noticed you brought up those Once Upon a Zombie dolls in another video. Maybe you could make a video covering Fairy Tale High (the knock-off Ever After High dolls sorta) and the Upon a Zombie dolls, since I'm pretty sure they were made by the same company? I have a feeling there's a story there!... But I'm too lazy to look for myself, lol.
Great video, very interesting :) I'm surprised you didn't mention Ever After HIgh though since those Grimm dolls and even the rococo ones seem to be ripping that line off. I wonder what the dates are. Definately the disney descendants are ripping off Ever After High but Disney seems to have won that fight over Mattel
So glad to find another RUclipsr who likes dolls! They have a special place in my heart. I collect dollfie dream dolls now as I'm an adult, but western dolls interest me quite a bit even still. Edit: Those Princess prancers... 💀Also, that 2nd wave transition was top tier!
The princess prancers look like they were created by Sid from toy story... like someone took the head off of a my little pony and stuck the top half of a doll on the body lol. I'd say the big issue looking at it is that the scale is completely off. the horse part is too small for the human part
i really love the way you edit and film your videos!!! your personality and humor is very entertaining and i am subscribing ^_^ its hard to find well paced video essays now a days…!!!

I used to LOVE this brand. I had every doll released and all the fashion packs. While the clothing fabrics were not always the greatest and the articulation was limited on the dolls, I absolutely love them! It was such a fun concept for a play line doll! I sadly only have the zombie collection left. This I loved the Rococo zombies! I’m also bummed that 2 of Grimm dolls were never released (of course the ones I wanted most). Thank you so much for making this video! It was so fun to see everything again 😊
This is my intro to your channel. I love the costumes here, but as I was looking at your other vids, I saw your real hair color / cut & it suits you so well!
It was just a minor mook that shows up during the Dio's crib arc His whole thing is being a vampire with a woman 's face on the back of his head and that's it
This is my first video of yours, and the Kamikaze Girls reference blew me away. Like, who is this cultured queen??? Now I've got to watch the whole channel.
the Grimm line had so much potential but I guarantee that the dolls probably wouldve been 40-50 with all of the stuff they seemed to have wanted to do with them
The transforming hair on the Rococo Mystixx is probably similar to the way the VIP Hair Makeover dolls hair works. Imagine a strand of hair parallel to a string and the string is connected to the top and bottom of the strand with hair elastics, if you pull the top end of the string it pulls up the bottom of the string and the strand of hair up along it, bunching it upwards into somewhat of a fake bun. It's weird to explain in writing but it's pretty simple when you actually see it. It's definitely a creative budget friendly feature to add to a doll though.
I got my single Mystixx vampire doll, Talin, from grocery outlet a long long time ago. I still have the wigs and clothes, but I'll always regret losing the doll itself

Just a fancy way of saying, "we only had a ten cent budget to make this".
She's still my favorite doll
(Sorry if i spelled or wrote something wrong, English isn't my first language)
The transition of the head turning is amazing
The Princess Prancers look a bit like the doll line created by Sid from Toy Story...
Bratzillaz are what got me into doll collecting in the first place. Im happy to say i now have the complete collection!
This was a really interesting deep dive into a lesser known doll-line!
LOVE the transition with spinning you head!
THE HEAD TWISTING TRANSITION IS SO COOL
33:11 you know what that's such a good point -
Even if they made them all a "were " option like werewolf, werefox, were raven
It would have been a simple way to involve theme more
I literally was too old for the Bratz style dolls and weren’t even interested in Barbies growing up, but this entire video was engrossing! Also wtf with the ponytaur line that looks like Toy Story’s Sid literally fused a poor pony and baby doll together omg
YO the angelic layer dolls in the background ????? like i know this is the place to see em but i never thought i WOULD see them just hanging in the bg of a youtuber's video haha
omg do I have the video for you: ruclips.net/video/x0qnGz5QajI/видео.html
I watched Grimm. Every episode started with a quote from a Brother's Grimm tale that would forshadow the story or the creature that episode would feature. None of them looked like those dolls lol. It was a pretty good show (horrifyingly dated 2010s graphics tho) until the writers fell into the trap of retconning their own lore too much (just like the lore writers for these dolls i guess lol)
Yes
Watched it, too. As someone fluent in German the creatures names were so cringe.. like the Hexenbeast (Witchbest) or Reinigen for the rat people that translates into "Cleaning". And yeah it ended in a mess, didnt even finish it. The dolls maybe just wanted to give a dark european fairytale vibe. Grimm also means dark/edgy/fierce/grunty.
13:10 purple yam, forest berries jam, purple kethup, purple shampoo.
was NOT expecting to hear about grimm. god what a throwback. show concept was like one upon a time crossed with teen wolf. and is a police procedural with the attitude of house md. hilarious. honestly i shoud rewatch it.
I don't normally comment on vids but I just HAVE to on this one to boost the algorithm because WOW. I enjoyed this video so much, it was so fun, professional and informative that it made me think you have atleast 500k views and subs, I was so shocked that u have not.
I would love to try and recreate them myself but with nicer fabric.
myscene dolls had webisodes back in the day. they were a big part of mine & other people’s childhoods.
Thank you for now making me want to redesign them.
I remember when I first discovered Mystixx. It was through a post about Monster High bootlegs and ripoffs in an MH Spanish blog. I remember the owners were pretty impressed with the head-turning gimmick.
I literally said out loud "Oh my God. I OWNED that!" when I saw the Polly Pocket plane. I think I had the limo, too.
This is a cool concept that with some tweaks and modifications to the design and execution could and would be a really cool product!
Also we need more youtubers that cover obscure doll lines, it's my favorite thing and you've done a fangtastic job
28:11 Hearing the name Grimm dropped in 2024 yt that has nothing to do with it is wild like, yes I know of it, I was (am) OBSESSED with this show. ⚰️
I miss Grimm it was so good in the beginning
I wanna pick Grimm back up. It was such a cool show and the lore was fun to play with. I used to watch it consistently, but fell off in outrage because they did my girl Juliette so dirty I couldn't get past it.
omg i just learned these existed like a month ago and here you are with the full overview
Also, the mystixx are still available at russian marketplaces! There were lots of them in August 2024,even the Rococo Zombies
Not only did they steal Draculaura's shoes, But they also stole Clawdeen's as well lmao
Purple foods i can think of: grapes, plums, tarro flavored boba tea, Grimace Birthday Milkshakes. What a diet!
Dunno how easy fashion doll hair is but MISSED OPPORTUNITY with not making the hairstyles match the alt styles from the art. Those scene bangs 💔
What does a vegetarian vampire eat…like, tomato juice? Kale juice?
It’s a rip off of draculaura and she’s also a vegetarian vampire
Marceline from Adventure Time can suck the red out of anything iirc
46:20 Maybe they had trademarked the names and decided they didnt wanna do it for any new names
OMG I loved Grimm! it was such a good tv series
Not where I expected to see a FNAFtuber, but I guess I'm not really surprised! 😂
Mystix slaying harder than Monster High gen 3
"Kamikaze Girls" is so good! The movie is great and the book had me crying with laughter.
Oh shit I forgot about Kamikaze Girls! My daughters are coming up on the age where they can watch it. Thank you for reminding me it exists!!!
THE POLLY POCKETS POPCORN BIKE!!! I HAD THAT!!!
the way all the girls' descriptions mention the fact that boys like them is so weird, but also kinda hilarious 😭
OHHHH YOU COOKED WITH THIS
OMG PIXIE NOTICE 💅
I used to have the Ceva raven animal spirit doll. Pretty rad doll I had in my collection!
I also had the light-up Novi doll!! I had no idea what the brand was called! I was starting to think I had hallucinated her, lol
Just when I think I’ve heard about every spooky doll, I stumble upon a great video like yours. Now I’m gonna be all obsessed about finding one 😄 Thanks for the awesome education ❤ - Kada
I remember seeing these at Toys R Us! I thought they were a bit creepy because of the head thing, but that made them so unique! ;)
18:33 (amateur) music producer here, i actually really love the song itself with its crunchy 2012 lead and early techno influence, the singing, while bad, reminds me of a song by double take called hot problems (genuinely thought it was a fever dream) that also came out in 2012
OH MY GOSH I HAVE ONE!I think I have Kaloni(the same doll/version of the doll u have!)
LETS GO MYSTIXX! *head changes*
This is my intro to your channel. I love the costumes here, but as I was looking at your other vids, I saw your real hair color / cut & it suits you so well!
Felt like the grimms were referencing different gods/goddesses Apollo, Aries, Hermes and perhaps Dionysus?
Cool transitions
My favorite purple food is eggplant, but specifically the Chinese variety so I can make tortang talong
your voice is so soothing and soft
28:16 waaait shes such a serve need herrrr
NOOOOOOO
It's that dude from Stardust Crusaders with a woman's face on the back of his head.
My memory of JoJo must be fading because I cannot for the life of me figure out what character you're referencing
It was just a minor mook that shows up during the Dio's crib arc
His whole thing is being a vampire with a woman 's face on the back of his head and that's it
His name is nukesaku. He dies almost immediately after being introduced, so it’s not surprising that you don’t remember him
The green hair is so good
You mentioning polly pocket reminded me of the wall party line!
