Hopefully none of this happened above bonito lake. They just spent all that time and money hauling decades of sediment outta there.

It is a small town of 8000 that grows to 25,000 during the summer with tourists. It sits in the Sacramento Mtns at 6900 ft in southeast New Mexico. A lot of Texans come up in the summer cuz it's cooler.

Fires and floods strike Ruidoso repeatedly. Why don’t they manage for future fires and floods that are certain to happen? Is it because 70% of the homes are owned by absentee landlords that have no real investment in Ruidoso or New Mexico? These absentee landlords from Texas get paid from insurance companies whether they manage for the certainty another fire, or not. The cost of cleaning up after episodic fire and floods are borne by New Mexicans and the Federal Government not the absentee landlords that exploit us.

That is a horrible thing to say! What are those landlords supposed to do? They can't control lightening strikes or arson! They can't control when the federal government or forestry tells the local firefighters they can't put out fires on wilderness land, so they will do a control burn instead. But, the winds hit and the fire gets out of hand and ends up burning out of control. They can't control the floods either! Thankfully, they pay taxes which depending on their property can actually be a lot of money which helps the town and community! How do they exploit Ruidoso? I don't understand your bitterness?
