❤ So grateful to these brave, generous people who provide us with excellent detailed coverage of the storms and aftermath. They literally risk their lives to bring this service to us for free. While "real" weather people, sit there in a posh, climate controlled office, making $100,000. Please donate to these fine humans. Gas to get to the places they storm chase and film is already super expensive, not to mention the astronomical cost of the special equipment they need to bring us this top notch content.❤🙏

Pretty amazing devastation. This was a century storm and much of the damage it caused is nowhere near the coast. One thing is for sure; the impact is vast and touches those who understand climate and those who are "climate deniers" equally. Property insurance will go up and as insurers start to spread the risk to non coastal insurees; they stand to see huge increases in their rates.

Trump called this a 'little hurricane' and went back to bitching about the usual crap. Senator Blackburn of TN was up in Michigan with him campaigning while her state was flooding. Meanwhile, President Biden was signing the federal relief paperwork and got FEMA in action right away. There are 10 states with millions without power and 100s of thousands of houses will need rebuilding. Has Trump offered any help, or does he just want everyone to buy one of his 100K watches?

Wonder if the local government will force people to pay to demolish their own homes after insurance bails on them. Happened in New Orleans after Katrina.
People lost everything, insurance bailed after claiming there wasn't enough money then the local authorities sent a notice saying that if you didn't fix your destroyed home that they'd demolish it for you then charge you for the cost of demolishing.

Brilliant building strategy. Let's build the town at the bottom of 3 hills and have little sewer ability due to just not building it as it is too much $. What could go wrong? This happens like 3 times a year here due to normal storms and the way the town was built.

"This happens like 3 times a year" - Asheville hasn't flooded like this since 1916. The warming oceans produce conditions for more frequent and extreme weather events like massive hurricanes barreling inland and dumping record breaking amounts of water on an area not used to getting it, causing extraordinary flooding and landslides. This is all happening because of carbon pollution from fossil fuels and other carbon emitting sources. It will keep happening, and more frequently, and there is barely much we can do at this point accept slow the rate of these things by moving away from fossil fuels.
