    People seem to not realize that in terms of michelin starred fancy restaurants, $225 is actually a good deal. So many restaurants cost $1000+ and still have less food than all 18 of these courses. At least there isn't too many caviar and gold leaves here.
    Edit: I have researched that the average michelin star restaurant cost $500. $225 is still quite cheap

      Exactly this. People also forget fine dining places like this are more about the artistic experience of just experiencing multiple different flavors and textures...hence small sample sizes but LOTS of different samples.

      Yes, very true. However, even 3 star restaurants don’t cost $1,000 (well not most of them any way). You can usually do the full tasting menu with an aperitif, good (obviously not the absolute best, but also not the cheapest), tax, and tip for $500-700 per person.

    As a retired Chef I made a guess at the price, and was shocked that the price is less than half of what I thought they'd charge, which is awesome to see. I know if I'm ever in San Francisco I'll try to get a table, but this quality of food, at this price is unheard of, especially in San Francisco. Great Job Chef!!

    Tasty!
    You mentioning the people working there remembering their customers reminds me of a Japanese Hibachi restaurant here. Me and my family went there a lot when I was little, and the few times we go nowadays the chef immediately recognizes us and it makes the whole experience so much cooler just from that. He knows what we'll order, favorite drinks, inside jokes we have there and all the random things like that. Not to mention the food and service is always amazing even though the place isn't some fine restaurant, it's just some little place on the side of the road. I like that aesthetic the most though over the more fancier and modern designs of most places

    As one of many professional cooks that's worked in the city-in the Presidio for this price is really great. I have easily dropped 2 bills on myself at places without tire company stars and this looks like a great experience..

      Oxygen on a leaf takes no time.
      Most of these restaurants put out insane sounding numbers of courses just for the shock factor. The food quality usually isn’t that great either, but you can take nice pictures and brag about it.
      All style, no substance. Great service is great, but you can get that in smaller restaurants as well. Not to mention that socially engaging waiters are every introverts nightmare and most north Europeans for example would be extremely wierded out anyways by that, because you usually enjoy your food in peace and quite, so that you can really focus on the food.

    For the people who are saying they would leave hungry, each dish is about 3+ bites, and there are 18 courses. Over 54+ bites of food and each of them are packed with a lot of nutrients and flavor. Pretty much a normal meal except it’s all expensive food (caviar, high quality steak, etc…). In addition, it’s only $225 which is pretty cheap for a EIGHTEEN COURSE MEAL MOSTLY MADE WITH EXPENSIVE FOOD in a Michelin star restaurant.

    Literally there's so much that goes into being a Michelin starred restaurant! Even the Bib Gourmand's! The price definitely goes into food costs and quality of the ingredients that are being sourced! So if you want great food, and not just a dollar menu that kills you faster than cigarettes...       The whole idea of the new Nordic movement is that they use locally sourced ingredients. Including random stuff you find in the woods like sorrel. They're pretty cool. They also don't waste food by throwing away useful stuff. That is relatively sustainable.

      Those bites are the best thing you're ever gonna taste. Also, which part of "18-course meal" did you not understand? You're gonna end up full by the end of it. If what you want is quantity over quality, you can go to a dodgy chinese buffet and eat as much questionable meat as you like.

      @@kateforan7998 A few months ago, I did a 13 course tasting dinner at a local restaurant. No Michelin star, but still fancy smancy. Didn't eat all day thinking I would get full and boy was that a mistake! Most of the dishes were served on spoons! I knew it was a tasting, but still expected a meal I guess. I've never left a restaurant so hungry. Went right to Taco Bell and spent $15 after spending $180 at the fancy place. Never again, keep your fancy and give me food!

      Each meal is around 3+ bites and sometimes more. 18 courses would probably a LOT. 54+ bites of expensive food. I would call that a steal considering it’s all expensive food from a Michelin starred restaurant as well as being 18 courses long.

    i hope people begin to realise nobody goes to michelin star “just” for a meal. its an art form much like an opera or a museum. except it includes your sense of taste, smell, and touch on top of everything else. you go there for a unique experience that features food. i’d love to have one or two michelin dinners in my life.

      These places make sure that the total calories is equivalent to or even more than a typical meal. Sometimes some courses are larger. Or like here some are very high in fat like the Wagyu.

    The newer Michelin Star restaurants like this are starting to improve the quality of “fine dining” overall. They give you interesting, different flavors and the plating actually FILLS YOU UP. Trying new combinations and flavors (and eating my fill) are the only reasons I eat out anymore. Most “fancy restaurants” are simply overpriced (and automatically add gratuity to the check) with a finite menu that you are better off simply cooking at home yourself (e.g. Ruth’s Chris steakhouses)
