Merveilleux !!!! J'aime !!! Merci
I just love Mr Ashkenasi’s “bel canto” approach to this wonderful concerto. Unlike most other violinists who use this piece to merely show off their technique, Ashkenasi unselfishly sings it, thus elevating the music, the composer, and the performer himself.
An excellent performance and recording... A stunning violinist... A very rare treasure...

This concerto is famous by the finale which Liszt used in his studies after Paganini. The concerto belongs to a genre often used in the XIXth century; the themes are exposed by the orchestra, then the soloist occupies the whole scene (see the concertos by Chopin). This can give masterpieces only under the pen of inspired composers, and certainly Paganini was one of them.
Concerto as a genre exists from the 17th century and not the 19th. And Chopin is not really a good example of concerto composer. Could had mentioned someone like Beethoven or Mozart, or even Tchaikovsky for that matter.
@@chessematics We did not understood each other. I was speaking of this "wrong" way to write a concerto: making a very poor use of the orchestra, generally as a tutti, and make a permanent exhibition of soloists virtuosity. This is the case of Paganini, Chopin, on the contrary of "good " concertos well balanced between the soloist and the orchestra such as Bach's, Mozart's, Beethoven's, Brahms'
Удивительно
Not only a good quality performance. The sound is perfect! Excellent!
Still one of the best performances of Paganinis music.
When my father bought this disc, that was the first time I'd ever listened to Paganini's music. I still have the vinil.
This is one of my favorite performances of this gem since i was a kid ! Thanks :-)

The cadenza is by Shmuel Ashkenazi.
It is a well written cadenza, a little short though.
What I feel listening to this is complete bliss.

Well, I don't think I've heard two performances of this work, by any number of violinists, that are similar. Maybe that's a good thing. All excellent, but all different. I suppose, though, that Kogan's is the gold standard. This was certainly another very interesting performance, and very individual. Thank you.
Hoch virtuos, absolut super
