To guess how Paganini play would have sounded, one can combine the best of Ruggiero Ricci and Ivry Gitlis. These two have the necessary elements that in intertwined format can solve the great puzzle better that anything else so far. Paganini however, will remain forever a mystery to some extent . It’s bound to be this way, but maybe for the better… A legend is after all, a LEGEND!!
While it's not the cleanest performance, it's truly unique. Ivry has such a spontaneous and non conform style which makes his music live. It's such a pleasure to listen to him. You never know what's coming next. Never boring. Always something new when you least expect it. The inspiration that sets him apart from others.
@@alittlebitofeverything5917 not quite so. Do you mean Locatelli? Or Carl Flesch ? He was his teacher, but he was much more controlled, whereas Gitlis plays at the boarder or beyond the boarder !
Tears of joy welling up in my eyes :D ...this artist's (Gitlis) beautifully-amazing talent is truly "other-worldly"... I am overwhelmed... :D The whole orchestra is amazing :D
I found another BEAUTY for my favorites. Thank you! Am not quite sure if Paganini would have wanted his composition played like this - but Ivry Gitlis is certainly a virtuoso!
I have seen people ask this before and am amazed that people don't know. I did music as a ten year old at school and thats one of the most basic things you learn about in the very early days as when you study the great composers its one of the first things you notice about the H.
In German system, H = B (natural) and B = Bb. "English" system do not use the letter H. So, for example, Schumann's Symphony no. 1 in B-flat major becomes Sinfonie n. 1 B-dur... Liszt's Piano sonata in B minor becomes Klaviersonate H-moll.
it is difficult to say, who played Paganini best. There is no competition between the top violinists. For example Milstein, Ricci or Fancescatti would laugh about an attempt of their fans to put one of them on the pole position and to lower the others ! Maybe it is only the proud of the fans to show, that they know another version, and they want to tell the others, that they are ignorants. It is a useless game !
@@manfred4766 If something is very good, it is welcomed to be very long as well. I have never heared somebody complain about the length of the Sauret Cadenza. But I have heared violinists complain due to its hairrising difficulty that exceeds those demanded by Paganini himself.
@@geigenatelierbrusch469 Dear Jochen, I think, you know , what I mean by " too long ". In the middle part of the cadenza is a section, where the same pattern shifts in a musically weak way. There is no progress in the harmonic devellopment, and - as I see it - very dull. You know well, that the russian violinists have a great respect for original versions of compositions. So f.e. the Tschaikowsky VK, is played by Oistrach in the original version, whereas the violinists in the western world play the shorter version, where the repetitiv motivs are avoided. And therefor there are only few violinists, who play the Sauret cadenza in its long version ! And to play its original version is not more difficult than the shorter version !
@@manfred4766 You're right what concerns the "dull" part of the Cadenza. Still the Sauret is THE cadenza for the concerto and magnificent in its outstanding way of exploring the possibilities of the violin. The Flesch and Wilhelmj Cadenzas do not reach this level of exaltation though both of them are masterpieces and do contain beautiful ideas. Ingolf Turban's cadenza rivals the Sauret regarding sheer virtuosity and does also contain a certain amount of wit and humour. The part where he quotes the Ernst "Erlking" yet with Paganini's glorious melody will always excite any conaisseur of the violin.
Generally in European countries we have been taught that B is the note a semi-tone above A and that the note a whole tone above A is H but in the American or idk what this system is there is no note called H. Its called B. What we call B is B flat to them. Its not that hard to get used to that don't worry. Hope that was helpful!
