@@manfred4766 If something is very good, it is welcomed to be very long as well. I have never heared somebody complain about the length of the Sauret Cadenza. But I have heared violinists complain due to its hairrising difficulty that exceeds those demanded by Paganini himself.
@@geigenatelierbrusch469 Dear Jochen, I think, you know , what I mean by " too long ". In the middle part of the cadenza is a section, where the same pattern shifts in a musically weak way. There is no progress in the harmonic devellopment, and - as I see it - very dull. You know well, that the russian violinists have a great respect for original versions of compositions. So f.e. the Tschaikowsky VK, is played by Oistrach in the original version, whereas the violinists in the western world play the shorter version, where the repetitiv motivs are avoided. And therefor there are only few violinists, who play the Sauret cadenza in its long version ! And to play its original version is not more difficult than the shorter version !
@@manfred4766 You're right what concerns the "dull" part of the Cadenza. Still the Sauret is THE cadenza for the concerto and magnificent in its outstanding way of exploring the possibilities of the violin. The Flesch and Wilhelmj Cadenzas do not reach this level of exaltation though both of them are masterpieces and do contain beautiful ideas. Ingolf Turban's cadenza rivals the Sauret regarding sheer virtuosity and does also contain a certain amount of wit and humour. The part where he quotes the Ernst "Erlking" yet with Paganini's glorious melody will always excite any conaisseur of the violin.
it is difficult to say, who played Paganini best. There is no competition between the top violinists. For example Milstein, Ricci or Fancescatti would laugh about an attempt of their fans to put one of them on the pole position and to lower the others ! Maybe it is only the proud of the fans to show, that they know another version, and they want to tell the others, that they are ignorants. It is a useless game !
