Bonnie is my Queen , beautiful voice, songwriter , and a mean slide guitarist. This woman rocks and has played with every blues and rock guitarists. She has a major catalog .
I have never perceived this as Country. She has always sounded more like Southern or Delta Bluesy to me. She is famous as a slide guitarist and has played with several blues musicians, including Stevie Ray Vaughn,
true. she's all south isn't she? I think of Louisiana or Cajun every time i hear her. not sure why. played w/ Jimme Vaughn too. beleive she attended SRV's funeral and did a eulogy. Just love this artist. the best!
Bruce Hornsby & The Range "The Way It Is" is his most well known and an absolute must listen, but "Mandolin Rain" is probably the one of his that y'all will appreciate the most with the lyricism and musicianship!
Just so you know Bonnie Raitt is arguably the finest blues slide guitar player alive today. She has played with a slew of the great blues players. This rabbithole is deep as her career has spanned 50+ years!
A love song with absolutely no angst or bitterness. It’s IMPRESSIVE. And she is one of the all time great singer/guitarists ever. Also, the video was just as sweet.
Bonnie isn't "country"; she's all BLUES. She has done so much to support older blues artists and reintroduce them to young audiences! You should watch the video of her duet of "Woman, Be Wise" with Sippie Wallace.
The song is definitely "country " with a blues tinge.. particularly the guitar tuning and tempo Not knockibg her blues stuff or blues in general but you can hear the country sound in this

Bonnie inherited both top tier musical genes and experience from birth from her famous father, musical stage starJohn Raitt. So special when the children turn out just as good or better than the parents at the same craft.
My dad, born in 1930, thought John Raitt was better, but he saw John Raitt on Broadway, but I saw Bonnie Raitt in the mid 70s. We'd go back and forth on who was better! Love Bonnie!
There's a ton of great songs in her catalog, and she's insanely talented. She won a Grammy in 2023 and Gen Z went nuts....lol But definitely listen to Just Like That. Beautiful song with a deep meaning.
America's Sweetheart. Saw her perform at a ski resort near SLC years back. When a lighting storm knocked out the resort's (Snow Bird) power ~20 minutes into her performance, she just picked up an acoustic guitar and sang louder.
This song was written by Canadian singer-songwriter Shirley Eikhard . That's Bonnie on slide guitar , you guys are lucky to be able to discover her music going back to the 70s !
Bonnie’s debut album was released in 1971. She toured and perfomed relentlessly, running under the radar for almost 20 years until her break out album Nick Of Time won a Grammy in 1989. Luck Of The Draw in 1991 was the next album winning three Grammys including Best Pop Female Performance for Something To Talk About. In 2000 Bonnie Raitt was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Not under the radar many my age In the 70s! I'm 73 now and she was around with Jackson Browne, John Prine, the late Stephen Bruton, don't let me get started!!
A&A, you’ll love Bonnie’s “Angel From Montgomery”(cover), "Not the Only One" and “A Thing Called Love”(cover)!!! She is known for her voice and slide guitar!!! Saw her in concert July 1990, great show!!!! edit- She's on slide guitar and the slide guitar solo!!
Saw Bonnie in a ski lodge during a massive blizzard that left the lodge with about 20 guests back in 1973. Not only was her performance stellar, but she let the audience buy her drinks and shot the sh*t with us till the wee hours. Best concert of my life. The 2 hour drive home in 3+feet of snow was not so fun.
Queen of the slide guitar. Played the Philly Folk fest when I was 15 in 1971. My friends started talking about her then.......loved her ever since! Another chick who hung out in the Canyon!!
So glad you loved this. Next you need to hear Takin’ My Time-it’s sad and powerful and showcases her vocal depth. And it’s totally under appreciated. Bonnie spoiled me for female artists because she’s the complete package (Joni Mitchell too).

Bruce Hornsby is great: from Mandolin Rain, Every Little Kiss to The Way It Is. He's a talent on keys and a lyrical genius. Raitt is a top notch guitarist with sexy vocals. Good one.
All great songs with great piano! If A&A want to choose: The Way It Is is an insightful commentary on racial injustice; Mandolin Rain is a wistful look at lost love prompted by hearing bluegrass music; Every Little Kiss describes missing one's lover when working far from home (maybe an extended stint on a fishing boat). Another great window on Bruce's piano is the Chaka Kahn song "Love Me Still"-- absolutely gorgeous piano shares the spotlight with beautiful vocals by Chaka.
I've been hearing her since I was a small kid thanks to mom's collection. She also loved Janis, Phoebe Snow, Joni - I think Tedeschi Trucks Band - Somehow is another mandatory listen.
I got to see Bonnie Raitt live in the mid 80's and before that I had only heard a few of her songs on the radio and never realized she was the guitarist. After the concert, I was so impressed. Probably the best female guitarist in her style of music (country/blues/rock) ever. And, I would rate her up there with some of the best. She doesn't show it off a lot in most of her music, but when she does WOW. It was a great show and I had a whole new appreciation of her after that.
