I remember Panorama using this music as a backdrop to the troubles in Northern Ireland. A solder was walking nervously down a street of terraced houses with the rest of his platoon, rifles ready to take aim at any minute sometimes walking backwards. I watched this with a mixture of fascination, and disbelief. How could it come to this in the streets of the U.K. The advantage or age knowledge and history makes me look through different eyes now.

..."There was a madness in any direction,
at any hour. If not across the Bay, then up the Golden Gate or down 101 to Los Altos or La Honda...You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning...
And that, I think was the handle---that sense of inevitable victory over the
forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that.
Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting---on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a beautiful wave...

Andy 'Thunderclap' Newman died in April 2016. The lead singer is Speedy Keen and the virtuosic guitar player was none other than Jimmy McCullough who was just 15 when the song was recorded. He later was with Paul McCartney and Wings. He died in his twenties from a drug overdose.

Philip9101 Thunderclap Newman was a one-hit wonder band that was put together by none other that Pete Townsend, whose goal was to showcase the talent of Andy "Thunderclap" Newman. This video is obviously a cover or tribute band, unless Andy has discovered the fountain of youth. The keyboard player looks old enough to have been around for the first incarnation of the band however.
