I like how he refuses to be drawn into the Edinburgh/Glasgow thing. All round a very wise man. We need more of his kind in our world.
Well said
be a great place if we all realised when we're 'not qualified to comment'
@@chriskerr158Very similar name to the OP you have there. Be honest…did you just compliment yourself? 😏
Ha I can't claim it's a complete coincidence as I only commented because names matched. But yes I'm not the OP.
im edinburgh, no one cares. hes a legend
What an awesome surprise this was in recommended . I love these two men. 🌟🌹🌟🇨🇦🌹.
Mike Scott is a amazing man! I've enjoyed listening to his work... incredible
He’s gifted us with so many great songs. Grateful
What a touching thing that Mike and his father are pals after such a long "pause". Saw the Waterboys play several times in the early-mid 80's. Fascinating to see this chat. I hope that Mike and his dear Mum have spent many days together since this was recorded.🙏🤗😍
My musical god. He’s been it since I was 13 in 1984 love him.
The Waterboys played in Carlow Town when I was 15.. My first ever gig.. Magic.
As brilliant as ever. Saw them last week in Cork. Fantastic music.
Mike Scott -What A Very Grounded Man.
I'm just hoping that religious debates will not be forced down our throats.
A Great Answer MIKE SCOTT 👍 About Not Wanting To Answer Questions On The Catholic / Protestant Question.
We're in the year 2024 and Ireland 🇮🇪 have evolved and should remain proud of moving on over the past 15 - 20 Year's.
Mike Scott you're looking well & so happy that you're settled down in your personal life 👍
My dad was an Irish catholic, my mother a Scottish protestant, I spoke to him on social media about it, he wouldn't express an opinion about the chaos that caused back in the 60's among families. I understand his stance, he doesn't really want to rock the boat one way or another!
Just seen this amazing band for first time, where have I been!!!! You must see them, they were soul stirringly brilliant. Thank you 😍
I’m saying the same thing as you . Saw them for the first time two nights ago in Glasgow. Was a fantastic gig , I now realised that Iv missed so much from these guys over the years. Really have to revisit their back catalogue. And certainly won’t miss them live on they’re next tour ! 😜
A soundtrack that's been fading in and out of my life for 35 years now.
What a wonderfully eccentric bloke.
I'm so sorry he feels so bad about the 80s. If it wasn't for the 80s, we wouldn't have had the opportunity to hear Mike Scott's lyrics and music. I'm 63, I'm thinking of taking up the guitar, just so I can play a meaningful to me John Prine song, but if I get to the point where I can play that song, I want to tackle a couple of the Waterboys songs. I feel I want to try to get into those emotions expressed as well. Thank you Mike!
That caught my eye. You can teach an old dog new tricks! My son has inspired me to pick up guitar again . I was never any good but this time I can just enjoy it for what it is.....something to amuse myself with. The other thing is the stuff you can get now...check out lag guitars and their hyvibe model. Good luck!
@@allosaurusfragilis7782 , thanks for the encouragement. I need to remind myself, I don't have all the "time" to do things I seem to think I do, between work, spouse, house, etc. I am keeping my goals to one song at a time, when I feel I can make the time to play. I have a teacher lined up, and an old Silvertone guitar I picked up that looks cool, so, it will happen.
@@leohorishny9561 goodwow
Where does he say that he feels bad about the 80s?
Maybe the first time I've ever heard Mike Scott and John Prine in the same sentence. Love it.
So underated
I could keep on listening to him... he's got a lot to say...
After 100s and 100s of concerts in life... Mike Scott SOLO in 1996 was and is #2 (After The Church at The Fenix in Seattle in 1999.) This man is brilliant and close to my heart.
Great to hear you loved The Church mirror. Being Australian, I have seen them many times. Haven't yet had the pleasure of seeing The Waterboys though.
Mike Scott is the best. Brilliant and sooo humble always.
I saw Mike Scott solo at Glastonbury in either '94 or '95. Never knew him or The Waterboys well at the time. He stole the show.
" he stole the show "?
Saw them at The Usher Hall last week and it was fantastic. His voice is tremendous and l was transported back to when l was in my late twentys. Then l said The Whole of the Moon was my funeral song. My kids are now 41 and 36 and have known this since for ever. Best song ever ❤😅
Great soul!!!
Loved listening to Mike even as he muscles his way through the mostly disappointing questions.
I really enjoyed this interview. Mike Scott is intelligent and articulate, and the interviewer kept trying to insert himself into the interview, but Mike is irrepressible. Would love to meet him some time and listen to his stories.
Tommy Tiernan is a respected Irish comedian and knows Mike Scott a long time. He asked questions that most others wouldn't which were unrelated to the band etc.
Great guy
Brilllliant. Happy st Patrick’s day . Lots of love from Ohio to Ireland. 🇮🇪♥️☘️🍀🤘
He's adorable ;) and hilarious!!
One fellow that would be welcome at my dinner table anytime.
i’d love to see them play
i was at the gig in The American Bar in Inishmore with Angie...great gig...room to roam...
Priceless
Never seen an interview w him before. Love him even more now.
“How old is your mom?
“Well I couldn’t say”
😊😊😊
He is as interesting and more as I expected from his lyrics.
I loved how Mike didn't take the bait of the religious truck. The catholic Irish are fixated on the catholic/protestant debate and who is superior .
That's a load of rubbish.. we use it as a shortcut to explain cultural differences - a bit lazy, I'll admit, and probably not comprehensible to those outside this island - but it actually has nothing to do with religion or superiority.. it's like Greeks v Romans or introvert/ extrovert.
@@aisl6190 It is possibly more the Fenian Brotherhood coming out maybe
@@aisl6190 You need to check your hearing at 5.06 minute Mike Scott says twice I have no truck with catholic /protestant debate. Please listen again Tommy trying to drum up ye olde Irish BS
And where would YOU be from now, huh?
Mike scott is cool!
Big Respect here for 'Big' Mike Scott , Little Respect here for 'Little' Tommy Tiny .
Mike is my spiritual leader
What a nice guy!
❤
The 1 & only raggle taggle gypsy'o ! seen em way back when & when mike went solo .
At 5 .10 , Mike Scott , Thank you for those words .
Good old Mike wide awake!!!
Never heard him being interviewed before
Tommy was hero tongue tied.
so miss mike on the gig scene
He's out and about playing - saw him last night in stroud and absolutely the best concert i have been to in years - just him and "brother paul" - superb
Genius singer/songwriter. His voice sounds very croaky though. Hope he's Ok.
SOULJAH
A rare kind.
Saw him last night - still amazing presence on stage - I went to Findhorn several times in the 1990s - it is a very special place - more than a little kookie but amazing, however I never did the penis workshop!!
this shows the scots and irish and are (actual) brothers
Medicin Bow ( This is the Sea )
Tommy a genuine soul in a currupt system
Tommy Tiernan Top Respect.
Mike Scott Top Respect.
( 😂 Tommy Tiernan I was & still literally creased up over your and Bradley Walsh '
' whose the thickest ? 😂😂😂😂😂😂..' Dont Be Greedy 😂😂
TT did this in the Stephen Rea interview. Why is he fascinated with 'othering' Protestants on this island?
Hilarious
SOULJAHZ ROCKERZ
No truck with it. I live in a wee split island and for me great shutdown to a question.
oh my....lmao!!!
Take Box No2 for 200 Alex!
Are they Scottish or Irish the waterboys band I mean
The Waterboys and Mike Scott transcend nationality
Scott is Scottish. The band have had various memebers through the years. Anto Thistlewaite English. Steve Wickham Irish. Karl Wallinger Welsh. The band, not including all of that 4, at one stage lived in Spiddal in Connemara where they recorded some of Fisherman's Blues. For me This is the Sea, a classic album, is by a long way their greatest work.

I agree here This Is The Sea, the cd, I bought by 1989 after FB...that's in 1985 aged 17 I had not my own money to spend. I often falled asleep with that beautiful atmosphere playing on the radio
@GEDSKEPTICMEDIA yes I remember about something I read, I think in their website I'm not sure...there was said about maybe 60 musicians passed in and out of the band, wonderful.
Sensible. Wouldn't not be drawn into a Catholic/ protestant debate.
"I have no truck with either of them sir, Protestant or Catholic, no truck whatsoever"
What an absolutely brilliant way to deal with such a nonsensical bollix of a question.
It was an honest answer but he could have explained himself. It's an interviewers job to try get interesting conversations. You'd be complaining if it was bland.
Oh how I would love to be a fly on the curtain 😊
🤯Hindu & Zen !!!!!!!!!!!!
Love the way he refused to answer the question
"Third half of the show." Basic math obviously not Tommy's strong suit.
“My name is Don…. hard Don”
weirdest interview eVar tommy lad
Awkward interviewer
Two Miss Fits WTF . You don’t rep the real people of Ireland.
What you talking about ?
The guest looks like deranged Steven Tyler
