      Out of all my musical artist heroes mike definitely inspired me the most. It was a little bit dated but that's understandable for his era, I'm a young musician going to music college and I watched this I think he's one of my first love! Rock on Mike

    As a lifelong appreciator of fine songwriting, and a part-Irish man freezing away in Canada, I'd just like to say that I love Mike Scott (platonically speaking). This man is worth listening to, without exception, at all times. His honesty, wit and talent remains a breath of fresh air, and his music is timeless. Even back in the Whole of the Moon days you could tell he understood things about both music and spirituality that the vast majority of people do not. His work has enriched my life, and I wish I could thank him for it.

    What a nice man Mr Mike Scott is. After Bowie a very close second in performing live. The passion and the energy, along with the inspirational lyrics and wild music is a true blessing to be in the presence of.

    Been saying it for decades: The Good Music died circa 1977/80. It's all true what singer Mike Scott says. But, lets ALSO not forget that Mike's "This is The Sea, an album filled with great songs & poetry, was ALSO filled with bombastic gated snares, synths, plastic touches - the production by Karl Wallinger was awful... just like Prince's productions - that album did not stand the test of time. Damn, I arrived in London (1977), right in time... to attend the funeral of the music that I loved... Disco, Punk, Rap & Madonna's GREED sealed the deal. They were the last nails in the sonic coffin. Only a few artists maintained certain dignity (not for long) during that decade. It's a fact that Prince wrote some great songs and was a fantastic performer. The little guy impressed everybody around me with his endless talent. But, I could never digest his annoying sounds & arrogance - specially his plastic percussion sounds. Always preferred Bill Withers organic, humble honesty. Initially, I survived that dreadful decade thanks to Dr Feelgood, Bob Marley, Television, Graham Parker, Ricky Lee Jones, Van Morrison, The Pretenders, etc... Sadly, there is NO more "Social Music Movement" out there. The only option is to patiently live from record to record, continue scratching the surface searching for a rare sonic gem here & there,. More often than not, until you grind your nails, bleed to the bone searching.

    Wow! I liked the 80's music, though it's was much "programmed" music. He says some important things. In my mind, I hate gated reverb. I like the sound of the large theatre. Expand the reverb but use it wisely. The Irish are a funny bunch.

      My son, now about to turn 46, said around the time he finally graduated from UW at 30, "What the fuck were we listening to in the 80s?" I'll have to send him this interview. When I think of what he and most of my high school students were listening to in the 80s, I think of Bon Jovi, Foreigner, Journey, Van Halen -- plus Blue Oyster Cult (not my students -- that was Eric). I wish I had known of Mike Scott and the Waterboys back then -- I would have definitely listened to them! That type of music wasn't being played in the middle of the Navajo reservation, where I was teaching.

    • @ScootyB525
      @ScootyB525 8 лет назад +1

      +Gail Williams yeah, it was true in the 70's as well. Boston, Kansas, and other "city" named bands were all very similar, that why bands like the Ramones got started.

    • @gailwilliams2678
      @gailwilliams2678 8 лет назад

      Eric was an Aerosmith fan, and distained Boston. I often found myself listening to whatever he was listening to, because that was my Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Lyle Lovett phase (not sure I've gotten out of that phase). I "found" The Waterboys through the CBC series "Republic of Doyle," when "Fisherman's Blues" was played over an ending scene. Got the Pogues that way, too. I really liked the series, but love it for giving me The Waterboys.

    • @ScootyB525

      Gail Williams I was fortunate that I got to see them live last Spring. I never thought they would come to the US.

    • @gailwilliams2678
      @gailwilliams2678 8 лет назад

      I think they have come over several times. I'm pretty sure they've played at Bumbershoot, in Seattle. There's a nice interview with Mike Scott about his autobiography at The Rock Book Show -- that was filmed in New York. They've played the Bing Lounge, too, and since that's part of Microsoft, I'd guess that's on the west coast, too.

    You know something, the Irish say the same about us Scottish lol.
    If an Irishman or a Scotsman compliment each other, their will be a falling out! 😈
    But, if we both slander and Slag and argue with each other Everything is fkn Rosey lool 😃
    Pure madness is what makes us 2 work hahaha.
    Love the Irish ☺
