When I was a bit younger, around 1984 and on, I wished with all my heart that The Waterboys would come to the U.S. midwest. As far as I was aware, they never did. The rare photos in magazines like Musician would be just a live shot of Mike Scott, top half of his face hidden behind hair. I did believe they had to be the best live band, though. Later, when The Live Adventures Of The Waterboys came out, I finally realized I was right! Now way after then, they still are.
They play big festivals even as headliners. They play in relative small venues 1500-2000 spectators. And rock the house. Because they want to. And they are totally enjoying themselves on stage. The only person who doesn't show, but that's probably because he is hard to read, is James. And it's a pity that Steve is not available for touring anymore.
Vale Karl Wallinger Karl Wallinger was one of the best and greatest musicians/ composers / producers and collaborators in music history. Sadly the great man has died aged 66. He passed away peacefully at his home. My throat is tight and my eyes fill with tears. Karl's music holds a very special place in my heart and soul. RIP mate you were a genius of the music world. Always in our hearts.
For sure!! now I'm sunk deep into everything from This Is Sea to Modern Blues, which is a fantastic album!! Love the new stuff so much...going to Dublin from Chicago in July for 2 shows!! Can't wait to catch them live again ❤️🎶
A glorious way to start the gig. A glorious song that does not get old. Eternal glory for The Waterboys and Mike Scott, who has been the person that more times has changed my mood to happiness not even being nearby or knowing it. That is powerful magic!!!
Mike Scott and the boys are like a fine wine they just get better with age. I absolutely love them. Mike is a legend with his vocals and guitar playing. They all play their part. But hats off to Steve Wickham on the fiddle. Especially on Fisherman's Blues. Fantastic. He is a master. You all have a great time on that stage and you give the crowd a great time watching you. Thank you for the great music Mike, Steve and all the band. Much love and God bless you all. Susan xxxx❤❤❤❤👍💖💖💖💖🤗🤗🤗🤗🙏🙏🙏🙏🎶🎸🎻
Interrupting mind-blowing and breathtaking music like this with a commercial break should be treated like a crime against humanity. Seriously, google. I know it's all about the dough, but can there not be this one instance where you just... just... just... DON'T?
ok, after hearing this ( and a heap more of their other songs tonight here ) IT IS official . . . I have a new favourite band . . . .and I see they played Auckland a few months back . . . . .I am mortified, I MUST see them . . .
+Sue Sutton I feel the same Sue - cant believe this band passed me by in the 80s - stumbled across them via one of the sound tracks (How Long Will I Love You) from the excellent movie About Time - a google search and very soon I was in touch with Mike Scott's amazing music - that was a couple of weeks ago - thank god for RUclips for bringing these delights to us - we live in enlightened times!
Tony Marsh , back in the late 80's Rolling stone magazine gave a review of their album "This is the sea", and i went searching for it, later, when i heard "fishermen blues", it bacame clear to me that i liked this band, not mainstream though.
One of the most underrated bands ever. And this is a great clip of a live performance. Thank you. I remember them from my younger days - it's good to see they're still around.
Never get tired of this song. I have listened to it since the 90s. Was lucky to catch them in Copenhagen many years ago. Thanks for sharing this video, really great performance!!!
Sorry for the Portuguese... Estava vendo esse vídeo, faz tempo que não ouvia esta música. Caramba! Que som legal! Que emocionante! Que letras! Impressionante.
Unbelievable....I always knew they were great...but not this great! I'm seeing them again on Sunday 20th May.....and now I'm sooooooo excited. My third time in 20 years but I gotta feeling....it's gonna be a good night. Many thanks for sharing this video...awesome xx
No comparison to fleet wood Mac these dudes r 100% better no doubt best in the biz!..... bravo Waterboys & Mike Scott no one comes close to you & band genius icon epic legends at work!....... damn this is killer!.......👍❤️😻☮️🔥🙏🎶🇺🇸💎
By chance I met the fella who played the opening trumpet intro whilst building a shed for the sax player of the Kickhorns. I said that there were two pieces of trumpet music that made me cry, this one and Rufus Wainwright's Beautiful Child. He played both of them.
One of the two epic rock albums ever..."This is the Sea"...together with the album "From the Lions Mouth" by the Sounds...I have managed to see The Waterboys in Athens in 1995!!!...when they used to real bang the drums because they were young...Such an amazing experience...Thanks a lot lads...
We saw them last night in Auckland, NZ and they played a stripped down version of this, keyboard by Mike Scott and Steve Wickham on the violin - absolutely brilliant, worth the ticket for that alone
Awesome ! the drummer is great and powerful, Mike scott is unique one-of-a-kind, the rest of the band is flew with amazing harmony...... the violinist also fantastic....thank you Waterboys for those great moment, I bought that CD "this is the sea" in 1985
I've seen a couple of fantastic live performances of this 'Don't bang the drum'. One amazing performance in Copenhagen years ago. But this seems to have been a truly great night!
What great records those!! Masterpieces are the albums The Waterboys, A Plagan Place and This is the sea. He never had the creativity of those first albums again
⚡You sent this , right ? Mindblowing live This song one favourite sinceclong YOU and this song I can imagine very well, with this band, and Yours, a celebration ✨
I have enjoyed The Waterboys since i first heard them in 1983 with A Girl Called Johnny and over the years seen several line ups and all of them have been fine musicians. But for me the best line up had Karl Wallinger on keyboards, Anthony Thistlewaite on sax and Roddy Lorimer on trumpet. They blew U2 off the stage when they toured with them. The Big Music.

Mike Scott and the boys still delivering their wall of sound and plenty of emotions....one of the best and underrated rock band ever

Underated no in the eighties they didn't want the lime light these guys are legends I no that I grew up with there music😊

I just found this in 2022. How the hell can anybody be this good? I've always loved The Waterboys but this is off the scale.
Well…. I guess it’s talent. The Waterboys were up there with bands like U2 back when they were beginning their music journey.
For sure!! now I'm sunk deep into everything from This Is Sea to Modern Blues, which is a fantastic album!! Love the new stuff so much...going to Dublin from Chicago in July for 2 shows!! Can't wait to catch them live again ❤️🎶
A friend of mine said that when they composed this song they were out of their minds.

It was pretty mad.
12 minutes and 33 seconds of utter bliss... Mike Scott... where Genius meets Madness...
Madness meets genius !
Steve Wickham on violin. Just amazing.
Just fantastic, one of the best bands ever. Mike Scott is a genius !
Genius is used to freely, but Mike Scott is on the top table. Think he’d be the seat next to John Lennon ?
When Steve Wickham is with him he's incredible

The ULTIMATE concert opening tune. Amazing.

And I "discovered" them while binging on the CBC series "Republic of Doyle." "Fisherman's Blues" was played over an end scene, and I went on a hunt!
Tony Marsh , back in the late 80's Rolling stone magazine gave a review of their album "This is the sea", and i went searching for it, later, when i heard "fishermen blues", it bacame clear to me that i liked this band, not mainstream though.
I only knew they existed because the coolest ever scene in Miami Vice featured "Be My Enemy" (season 5 shootout) and have now rediscovered the band

Visti due volte in Italia...nel 2004 a Chiari-Brescia e nel 2013 a Roma... Spero di vederli ancora!!!!
