That was my reaction, too. I'd never before seen an interview with RS, only read one or two in magazines, and I was pleasantly surprised. Such great perspective as a human being with great insight to all he's been doing, even when he was just 20 years old and singing "Boys Don't Cry" and not ashamed to admit he grew up listening to music like Ray Charles at home in beautiful Crawley.

We love you ❤

I saw the Cure in Austin in 2008 and the set went on for two hours and I was thinking man, people are going to start passing out. Longest set by any band I have ever seen and really could not grasp why it went on for so long in a crowded theatre. Then I saw another interview with Robert Smith where he said he saved up money to go see the Rolling Stones in 1977 in London. He went by himself, took the train to London, but the set only lasted 45 minutes. He was utterly disappointed and saddened that after all the sacrifice he only got to see a 45 minute show. He vowed if her ever traveled to far away places as a musician, he would not do what happened to him to fans.

I love the band, and I think Robert is a very intelligent, talented songwriter, but cannot disagree more about the monarchy. Yes, hereditary privilege I'm not a fan of, but the royal family are mostly a force for good in the country, and I'm sorry they have raised awareness and generated more money for the economy than a punk band have. I thought Robert didn't come off well here to be honest. Yes, open and honest, but a bit rambling, incoherent, and disrespectful. Not a good interview at all really for me. He's far more intelligent than this shows.

I can see both sides to it obviously the artists he respects that took honours from the royal family have a different point of view than him or have grown to have a different one. He’s entitled to his own opinion and I'm not too easily offended so it doesn't bother me.
What one defines as a “good” or “bad” force in the world is suspect to a ton of subjectivity anyways. I still think Robert is an intelligent, passionate and sincere person, his joke about being King at the end there was his way of kind of de-escalating his intense speech and ending on a much lighter funny note which shows he's aware of how he might have come across not to mention he has always been uncomfortable doing interviews.

punkinmyvitamins1 lol he is so right.. and this way of not caring of the very basic rules of language amd communication today is quite sad, in favour of the very poor "so called smart"(?)phone interactions. Thousands of years building beautiful and complex languages, and we are destroying them to go back to grumble-like and phone-directed communication...well maybe there is an irony or a sense in that.. Maybe R Smith will find it and write it down in a song :)

Why did the french public always and early connect with The Cure?
Sure because there is undoubtly something of Rimbaud in your esthetic universe, at laest in your 3 first albums.
Curiously, that sad, desperate, angry nervous french touch.
    Yes I'm french, brother...
I remember, when I heard COLD for the first time: I was around 15 yrs old, and this was exactly how I felt about life.
    Perfectly matching.
Now I'm 53. I changed, and life changed too and changed me, but when I listen to that crunchy bass line on the MaxiKorg, on COLD, it still sounds like pure music!

The best thing about Robert Smith is that, through all his personal and artistic evolution, he has never sold out his musical principals for commercial gains. I happen to be a fan, but whether you like The Cure’s music or not, they have never betrayed their core relationship with their music in order to fit a certain prefabricated mold. That takes commitment, courage, integrity, and an uncompromising passion.

No wonder he could right so many unforgettable songs, he has a big heart and a bright brain, that’s where his music comes from. After all he is one of the greatest British living author, a legend and a simple man at the same time. Long life to him and to The Cure.

If Robert Smith was in therapy, I’d love to be a fly on the wall during his therapy sessions. He’s a really interesting person. Love his creative genius mind, his musical poetry, the way he expresses himself without caring what others think about him. He looked a lot like Ben Affleck in one of his earlier videos. The Cure songs take me back to my adolescent/teen years of the 80s. I feel like a teen when I listen to The Cure songs

heard A Forest, that track was so intriguing, so ambient- it stood out from anything else around at that time. went downtown to a retail shop and bought an album called seventeen seconds, it never left the turntable for bloody ages. Then i went down south to see them play live, Brilliant, this was 1980

Robert... you're a genius, man. I love you. I've read Camus and Sartre in the French, too. Maybe we're both existentialists. Life is meaningless... but we give it meaning by doing things that give meaning to the lives of others. You through your music. Me, through my writing and care work. It keeps us going. It's what we're here for. Keep going, my friend. Much love x
