Of all the NFS games I've played, Hot Pursuit is probably the best. The soundtrack in this game is amazing. And the only NFS game to be remastered. Good thing is the remastered compiled all the DLC's into one game so you don't have to buy the DLC's like in the OG.

This was the most cinematic racing game that I ever played thanks to the incredible visuals, sound design, soundtrack and crash cameras. Every Hot Pursuit event felt like a war, every Time Trial felt like I was living out my car enthusiast fantasies, every Rapid Response made me feel like a badass cop from shows like Starsky & Hutch or Magnum PI. Seacrest County was one of the most beautiful maps ever made for a racing game. As a kid this game was the perfect escape from reality and the closest I was ever going to get to experiencing automotive heaven. I know the series will most likely never go back to its roots again like how it did with Hot Pursuit 2010 but I would love to have one final game in the style of the Hot Pursuit games for the series' 30th anniversary.
This game and TDU2 was a huge turning point in my life as a car guy. Me and my best friend played this and TDU2 in the early 2010s until he moved away in late 2012. This era with these cars, I think of as the earliest of, "modern," cars. Just about every car in this game has aged extremely well and I still have fond memories of seeing them in person back when they were new. The fact this game had nothing but supercars made my heart warm all the time while playing it. Take me back to this simpler time
The burnout crew nailed this reboot. Edit: I had forgotten this was a literal mash up of Burnout 3 and HP2. Amazing sounds on everything from the tires to the roar of the engines. Using ELS (emergency light systems) patterns that match the region the police car is from and everything. I need to replay this game.
9:18 In Undercover for PS2 there was a mode where you can play as cop. You could drive Ford Mustang GT, Lamborghini Gallardo or Porsche 911 GT2. You could earn some good money from it.
I remember being blown away by playing this game back in 2010 on Xbox 360 due to how amazing this game looked at the time. Criterion knocked it out of the park and the fact that it got remastered was just amazing as it looks even better especially on PC. Easily one of the best NFS games ever and a personal top 3 of mine alongside Rivals and MW (2005). This was so much better than whatever came afterwards, whether it be The Run or Shift 2. The car list is great in this game especially the exotics class and how they are presented. The Edge of the Earth soundtrack just captures what this game really is. The only downside was that the dlc for the original version was console exclusive.
Bought this game back in August 2011 on Xbox 360 when I found a Limited Edition copy at Best Buy, had a complete blast with it, bought the PC version of the original years ago for dirt cheap on Steam before the remaster came out but never played it and when the remaster came out in 2020 I bought it on Steam and later the Switch port in case I wanna play when away from home... love this game so much.
I love the sense of speed in this game, trying to sustain 200+ is stressful. Also the multi-player is a riot, its cross-platform and super fun doing hot pursuit with friends!!
It's a shame it was handled so poorly. Absolutely no level-scaling, where you can be put as a newbie with no cars into a lobby with maxed out lvl 21 players. I'm not asking for full-on match-making, but at least a basic check if you have unlocked that rank to make sure not to put newbies at an unfair disadvantage would be good. Also, the bugs such as broken traffic, no anti-cheat and no PVE modes really suck.
Hot Pursuit 2010 just hits in such an unique way for a NFS it is hard to not love it. Sure, brake-to-drift is very off-putting (that is if you never played Burnout before) but you can't deny how well made this game is. ALSO, THE SOUNDTRACK IS ONE OF THE BEST EVER
The soundtrack was full of indie artists that I've never even talked or heard about. Klaxons are an example. I would say that my man Lupe was in the game's soundtrack with his song Shining Down, after 5 years since Tilted from the OG Most Wanted. Also, the fact that a song from one of my fave rappers, Travie McCoy was truly unexpected. Superbad? Like I was amazed to see a song from his album Lazarus (which Billionaire ft. Bruno Mars is in) is featured in Hot Pursuit. Chiddy Bang however, I wouldn't call him an indie artist because he was soooo popular back in the 2000's.
This game was what brought me back to the nfs franchise and love for this era of cars. So many iconic super cars to mess around with a iconic and vibrant world to complement it.
One thing I would like to add in 6:32 for those that wanna play Hot Pursuit 2010 but are photosensitive and are afraid the cop lights might give them epilepsy. It IS possible to turn the police lights off while playing the cop (I do not know if this also applies to when you are a racer chased by cops) but the feature is there for the cop cars so this becomes a non-issue there. Aside from that HP2010 is still one of my all time favourite games and I still play the remaster here and there as the PC version of the original didn't have any of the DLC content, they were literally unavailable for purchase. so for the PC peeps out there, for the full experience, get the Remaster, it plays exactly the same.
2:40 never did make the correlation between the 2010 NFS Hot Pursuit and Top Gear, but now that you mentioned it, it does have that vibe to it. 3:00 Well, there was the Cop and Robber's mode from Burnout Paradise but that was a one-off online mode. 4:18 I won't blame your friend there, as some banger racing games came out in 2010 like Split/Second, Burnout, and of course Gran Turismo 5
Re-played through this game to completion recently. Straight up good driving goodness. No forced online, no MTX, no pointless open world to fill time, just straight race and chase action until you 100%. The gadgets feel great to use, against bots or online, the track design is great for both drift and high speed, the cars all sound great. Man. And it's short enough that I could see myself replaying it from scratch in a few years.
No customization is actually forgivable for once in this NFS, this game kinds of going back to basics in terms of Need For Speed series, and Criterion did it very well. It is the only 2 NFS games in the 2010s where im gladly going back into. The other being NFS Heat..
As someone who has played over 200 racing games across all platforms and played 90% of nfs games through out the years I can assure you that this game is on my top 10 list and my favorite entry in the series in terms of the driving physics, car sounds and visual effects
"gave him his last warning" officer, the suspect's vehicle is currently barrel rolling down the freeway at 150mph and doesn't look like it'll stop rolling anytime soon that last suspect probably went from 6'1" all the way to 4'11" once his car hit the ground
When I first got my PS3 in 2010, I had both GT5 and NFS: Hot Pursuit. Gran Turismo was good but really felt like GT4 with a sharper coat of paint. Hot Pursuit however completely blew my mind. The way it looked, sounded and played. It was very much a Burnout game but with Aston Martin's and Lamborghini's and Bugatti Patrol cars. It's still one of my favourite games. Top work on the video, as always!
Back then my parents had gifted me this game for Christmas and I was having a blast playing it days on end. Online features were also very novel for us, and me and my school pals spent a lot of time playing this game together. Social stuff was also fun.
The Carbon Motors E7 concept car is also missing (because the company closed down in 2013) and a small handful of police liveries were changed like the Italian Polizia livery of the Lamborghini Gallardo. The rain effects also seem a bit toned down in the remastered version.
Trees also look a lot worse. The only reason to get it on PC is because the DLC content that was previously not available on PC is included there. With some reshade, you can make the original look around as good if not even better than the remastered.
Need for Speed HP 2010 is very much near the top of my list of favorite NFS games, it's a shame it gets a lot of hate for having no customization but it's just a pure, adrenaline rush arcade racer and i love it so much
Amazing review, its one of my favourite NFS games of all time, but i also want to try to help with some remarks. 7:01 Regarding what you said, in the original version of the Hot Pursuit, they actually made the Gallardo police livery resemble the one used by the actual italian police(Polizia), but i hate that they took it out in the remastered version(thank God the modding community exists for such things). 9:08 Actually, it will sound funny , but the last game before HP 2010 who let you be a cop is actually the PSP Port of Most Wanted 2005, called the "5-1-0" version, where there is an actual mode called "Be the cop." The police models are fictional, but you can drive all three of them and take out players with force the same way as in Hot Pursuit.
This is definitely one of your best reviews yet and I’ve been enjoying them for years now. NFS hot pursuit 2010 was definitely what the franchise needed at the time as reboot to good nfs games. I remember getting this Christmas 2010 and enjoying it for many months on end and being blown away by the graphics and car roster at the time. Still holds up great today. Love the soundtrack and race track variety
I still enjoy playing Need For Speed Hot Pursuit on occasion. The last few games didn't do it for me after Underground and Most Wanted but Hot Pursuit caught me eye.
Finally Spenny reviews the best NFS game! This game replicates that pre-Underground style so well, and it holds up so well graphically, for being 13 years old.
the HP series is much closer to its road and track roots and also inspired by the Outrun games. wide open max tachometer racing of very expensive rides with beautiful scenery.
Love Hot Pursuit (2010) so much that I have 4 copies of the game: Two on Steam (original 2010 release and Remaster) Physical PS4 version of the Remastered version Digital Nintendo Switch version of the Remaster
I replayed HP 2010 and Rivals before Christmas. Both games still hold their own, no wonder EA decided to " Remaster" HP :) Rivals got alot of backjlash at release for always being online and stuff. But Rivals lokks awesome and plays good. Both games are rather short tho. Not every racing game needs a story and these games try to compensate that with the cinematics and other aspects of high quality.
When it comes to the modern Need for Speed games, this one is definitely my favorite because the 90s Need for Speed games are my favorites in the entire series. That being said though, I think the game should’ve been called “Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 3.” Because if the game is supposed to be a reboot, I don’t think it does it as well as it should because it doesn’t have everything that made the original game great. Sure, the core gameplay is fantastic. But it’s still missing split screen multiplayer, and I especially think they also should’ve included the 90s Need for Speed soundtracks in the game. (at least as DLC) I can understand certain cars not returning, but I really don’t get why they won’t include all of the classic tunes from the 90s that aren’t even licensed. In fact, they really should’ve been on Spotify by now.
I enjoyed playing undercover i didnt know people disliked it that much. But to be fair i have fond memories from that timeline so i might be a bit biased from the nostalgia.
NFS HP 2010 ,MW 2012 , and Rivals in the Supercar era were were a throwback to classic era how NFS started the franchise in the 90s Edit : I enjoyed the supercar era of NFS before I tried my hand of the Blackbox and Ghost era
So when Criterion pitched a game named "Need for Speed Split Second" (a term widely used in the car racing scene) to Electronic Arts in 2002. How do you come to the conclusion that it turned into Split Second created by Disney/Blackrock in 2010, a studio that had nothing to do with Criterion or EA.
The hours spent playing this game, the speedwall leaderboards, it was all a beautiful experience that stood out as the best game after Most Wanted 2005, and the best game since.
Graphics and audio are great, music awesome of course ,I finally played it after many year it was released . Unfortunately it doesn’t compare one bit ,even with the older hot pursuit games ,handling model is horrible ,game’s buggy on so many level s and if you notice when you start playing for the first time it tells you “replay value” well that’s true because like NFS The run you will replay the race a million times ,most races feel repetitive but the main reason you will replay is because you’ll crash ,either because the car handles like a brick or steering bugged and all of a sudden pulls to a random direction. Traffic as always placed in worse situations ,spamming when the race is finally fun causing you to crash and ruining the experience ,compared to Underground is horrible ,at least in both Underground games you can use skill and experience to avoid traffic ,in here the car’s steering becomes even more stiff and pulls towards the traffic ,so you either hit the traffic or press the handle-brake and steer into the wall ,that unless the steering bugs and pulls anywhere it wants to lol. For old school players it can be enjoyable ,I mean even for me who finally played it after so many years , I lover the “The Ultimate Road Car” race ,after completing it I played it again but for newer younger players who get the game it’s probably a “meh” and an annoyance compared to other racing games that are out there .
Great review as always. I played a TON of this game on 360 when it came out, I picked up the remaster on sale and sank a ton of time into it recently. There's definitely a few frustrating crashes, but the game is fun as hell. Great arcade racer and fun to play as both sides to keep it interesting.
I tried some codes for Need for Speed High Stakes PS1 to add cop cars to your garage. Driving them outside the Pursuit Mode will still give you the different HUD, but I think not all elements were there. Looked kinda odd. 17:13 CARtoon (sorry) physics like this are common overall, but I don't think I ever seen a car get comically stuck on the ceiling like that before.
I am so glad you mentioned the Wii port! I want you to imagine this, it's 2010, 10 year old me sees the E3 trailer and is hype as, only to buy the Wii copy from EB Games because we couldn't afford a PS3. Absolutely devo, even as a 10 year old, I played once then went on to other games. Only a year later we got PS3 and I got Burnout Paradise and Hot Pursuit, incredible time!
Need for speed Hot pursuit was the game that got me into the need for speed. Before that I still remember to this day playing most wanted 05 and underground. But this was the game that really turned the tide for me I'll never understand why NFS hot pursuit needed to be remastered because it's one of the few games that still looks really good from the 2010's I get it that the remaster was only for a graphical update but it really didn't needed. The soundtrack on this game is something that so many people don't talk about because for how short it was it was really good with my two favorites being shutting down by Lupe fiasco and edge of the Earth by 30 seconds
Just wanted to point out, the latest Hot Pursuit was Hot Pursuit 3 - which was my very first NFS game being a cop.... I fell in love with the Lamborghini Diablo.
I added the remaster on my switch, it is a fun game but does require some patience. overall an easy one to pick and start playing. great review as usual!
This game is the most memorable arcade racer ever, my #1 racing game of the decade (NFSU2 for the 2000s). The perfect mix of realism and arcade, the real cars used... Criterion truly brought the essence of NFS itself into this masterpiece. Sure there's a place for customization and street racing like NFS Most Wanted and NFS Underground, but I wish they bring this kind of game every decade, just like the old days kind of NFS.
This game on the ps3 with all my friends back in the day was absolutely fantastic. When we got bored of COD everyone would hop on hot pursuit to the point we would have the whole lobby filled out and the shit talking was golden 😂 great times yelling at each other and the constant mayhem of people saying f it and drive the wrong direction certainly got a lot of laughs. Definitely an iconic game for me and would put it in my personal Top ten for racing games.
I consider this the last really good nfs game pretty much every game after this one just didn't do it for me although some do have their highlights they just didnt hit the mark like the ones before 2010 (excluding undercover) and by this point i completely abandoned the franchise and moved on to forza and the crew its sad to see a franchise i cherish so much ending up like it is now
Every time I see this game it reminds me when I went to go see the need for speed movie in 2014 how similar the vibes were between the movie and this game.
I have a bone to pick with the Need for Speed fandom, and I have nowhere else to say it so this is the best place for this hot take. So I've heard for a while that NFS Heat on PS4/XBONE is not very well-liked, and if the majority of people are playing with a standard controller then I can understand it not being super fun. HOWEVER, I recently got a Logitech G29 wheel, pedal and stickshift set and GT lite racing seat for my PS5 and decided to try NFS Heat for the first time ever. What an amazing game! It's definitely made with the wheel in mind without a doubt. The game had a fantastic feedback loop, where you earn money during the day and xp during the night. The catch is that you can have all that money from day races but you have to earn xp at night to unlock better performance parts, but the cops are almost always after you at night and you have to escape them and make it back to a safehouse to cash in the xp earned that night, and if the cops catch you during night you lose all the cash you saved up during the day and the xp you earned that night. It is always really intense and very rewarding when you pull it off! The cosmetic customization is about as good as it gets, the likes of which I have only ever seen in Midnight Club LA. The best part (and this is where the wheel comes in) is whenever you upgrade performance parts you can feel every little change in the feedback in the wheel! The satisfaction of fully customizing all the cosmetics and parts, and being able to feel every tweak in the wheel truly makes your cars feel like they are personally yours. The story is not great but not bad either. The customization and personalization is top-notch and makes every play session feel special. I put on some Spanish House music on Spotify and can race for hours. If you have a wheel then this game is a MUST! If you tried it with a controller I strongly suggest trying it again with a wheel if you ever get the chance. Play your own music and it's like you are street racing in your own freaking tricked out car! C'mon y'all!
both the best sound design and online multiplayer in the entire series, and even as someone who generally prefers grippy arcade handling similar to the (even) older games, it ends up being my favourite NFS game overall every time I think about it in comparison to others...
9:20 , technically, you can drive as an police officer in NFS Carbon and take down street racers, but that is just available to an exclusive online game mode.
Got the chance to play the remaster thanks to gamepass. It's a good game, but it gets boring (at least to me) with how the cars feel identical to drive or the lack of variety in it's track design and game modes. Also, I think most wanted(2012) feels more like a burnout game (or at least a burnout paradise)
I bought Rivals for dirt cheap off steam a few weeks ago and I've been having a ton of fun with it. You need to use mods to unlock it from 30fps without entirely breaking the game, which is a little too complicated for me, so I've been playing it at 30 and enjoying it nonetheless. It runs on the battlefield 4 engine and looks stunning, the sense of speed is awesome, crashes are spectacular, the car roster is legit and the open world is one of my favorites in NFS. It's full of amazing vistas, jumps, landmarks and a very flashy dynamic weather system and day night cycle. Its honestly just a great game I wish it got more love. It's always online which didn't bother me really, because i found the trade off of encountering other players seamlessly in the open world getting into their own cop chases is awesome.
I remember when they dropped the remaster during the height of Covid and I was playing that shit non stop and it was just as good as I always remembered it from back in the day when it first released
One thing Criterion absolutely nailed with this were the engine sounds. Never played another racing game with cars sounding this heavenly. Sure took me by surprise when I decided to replay this after putting hundreds of hours into FH4.

better than NFS shift sopunds?
I think they nailed it with Shift series more than any other game.
Shift is up there. Don’t sleep on Driveclub though. Another good one is NFS The Run, the game which MW2012 took many of its audio files from.
Funny thing is that all the Hot Pursuit NFS titles descend in number with every version. NFS3 Hot Pursuit > NFS Hot Pursuit 2 > NFS Hot Pursuit
A countdown to its final form.

I know the series will most likely never go back to its roots again like how it did with Hot Pursuit 2010 but I would love to have one final game in the style of the Hot Pursuit games for the series' 30th anniversary.
I would say nfs the run is way more cinematic but I get what you mean
Oh man, oh man, have I waited so long for this review!!!! It's finally here!
Take me back to this simpler time
NFS III HP, NFS HP2, and NFS HPR are my favorite racing games outside of Burnout 3/Revenge. The Switch port of NFS HPR is surprisingly excellent also.
Hell yeah another absolute banger from my favorite reviewer! I loved this game on the PS3 and now i can watch you review it.
A Death Magnetic reference on a ColourShed video is something I never thought I'd see.
This is a game I still put on just for the freeride mode. The map is just wonderful to drive around, passing an hour or so.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that enjoys the free drive feature. The map is incredible.
No customization is actually forgivable for once in this NFS, this game kinds of going back to basics in terms of Need For Speed series, and Criterion did it very well. It is the only 2 NFS games in the 2010s where im gladly going back into. The other being NFS Heat..
This, burnout revenge and outrun 2 are my holy trifecta of arcade racing
As someone who has played over 200 racing games across all platforms and played 90% of nfs games through out the years I can assure you that this game is on my top 10 list and my favorite entry in the series in terms of the driving physics, car sounds and visual effects
I was just binging your old stuff wondering when you would upload again. Great video!!
"gave him his last warning" officer, the suspect's vehicle is currently barrel rolling down the freeway at 150mph and doesn't look like it'll stop rolling anytime soon
that last suspect probably went from 6'1" all the way to 4'11" once his car hit the ground
Im liking the multi port review mate. Keep up the good work.
Back then my parents had gifted me this game for Christmas and I was having a blast playing it days on end. Online features were also very novel for us, and me and my school pals spent a lot of time playing this game together. Social stuff was also fun.
One thing to point out: the Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren 722 and Sterling Moss are absent in the Remastered version.
@@Brandon0406 There's also a modpack that restores some textures and upscales them all, making the remaster + modpack the best version to play
Duh. Ever heard of their fiasco? That's why Mercedes and McLaren keep arguing about that bullshit. They argued about which the SLR belongs to.
It’s always a good day when Colourshed uploads.
This game really was the true return to form that NFS needed at the time. To me, this game will always be Need for Speed 5.
the HP series is much closer to its road and track roots and also inspired by the Outrun games. wide open max tachometer racing of very expensive rides with beautiful scenery.
Love Hot Pursuit (2010) so much that I have 4 copies of the game:
Two on Steam (original 2010 release and Remaster)
Physical PS4 version of the Remastered version
Digital Nintendo Switch version of the Remaster
BlackBox started and developed NFS World with Quicklime taking over after Blackbox's closing
The ps2/wii versions of undercover actually has a mode where you play as a cop in a cop car.
Great game video! The original one on PS2 for me will always have a special place in my heart.
I enjoyed playing undercover i didnt know people disliked it that much. But to be fair i have fond memories from that timeline so i might be a bit biased from the nostalgia.
NFS HP 2010 ,MW 2012 , and Rivals in the Supercar era were were a throwback to classic era how NFS started the franchise in the 90s
Edit : I enjoyed the supercar era of NFS before I tried my hand of the Blackbox and Ghost era
"Need for Speed was in a bit of an identity crysis"
As oppose to when its identity was consistent for more that 3 years in a row?
Yeah I quite like Hot Pursuit 2010. It's really enjoyable. Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2) Still holds up so well.
Was actually my first game with the PS3! I loved it, the OST is still something I listen to every so often! Thanks!
I adore this game but I hate that it never had a quick race option. Was hoping the remaster would add something like that..
My dad got me hot pursuit on the ps3 when it came out, kept me busy for monthssss
Hot pursuit isn't a bad game at all, it's amazing, but it did irepairable damage to the series. On its own, it's one of my favorite nfs games
I remember I got this game on Christmas when I was 10 and I spent countless hours on it. Maybe I should pick it back up and start playing it again.
For anyone interested, the remastered version is on steam and is often on sale for less than 5€, definitely worth it
This game is the most memorable arcade racer ever, my #1 racing game of the decade (NFSU2 for the 2000s).
I recommend looking up "1 racer vs 4 cops". I daresay its one of the best recorded examples of how exciting and tense the game can be in multiplayer.
Awesome review! The online gameplay (most wanted mode) is still one of my favorite online experiences of all time!!
I consider this the last really good nfs game pretty much every game after this one just didn't do it for me although some do have their highlights they just didnt hit the mark like the ones before 2010 (excluding undercover) and by this point i completely abandoned the franchise and moved on to forza and the crew its sad to see a franchise i cherish so much ending up like it is now
Great memories with this game, remembered getting the platinum trophy on the PS3.
“It’s not a matter of luck, it’s just a matter of time”
I remember playing this game with “I’m on one by Drake” or “Aston Martin music” in the background of ps3 bring back childhood memories
Every time I see this game it reminds me when I went to go see the need for speed movie in 2014 how similar the vibes were between the movie and this game.
You forgot to mention one of the best qualities of the game: the sound. Cars haven't sounded better not before not after.
NFS:HP2 on PS2 is my favourite racing game of all time, maybe a close 2nd to TOCA 2
Best NFS ever. Fight me
4:16 I agree with your friend, this game sucks. Hated it when it came out in 2010, played the remaster least year, still don't like it.
There is a game mode where you could play as a cop in Need for Speed Carbon, but it was online only
Same with Undercover and I really enjoyed it back in 2016 - 2018
both the best sound design and online multiplayer in the entire series, and even as someone who generally prefers grippy arcade handling similar to the (even) older games, it ends up being my favourite NFS game overall every time I think about it in comparison to others...
9:14 There is one in the PS2 version of Undercover
9:20 , technically, you can drive as an police officer in NFS Carbon and take down street racers, but that is just available to an exclusive online game mode.
This game was awesome. I love the soundtrack Cineama by Benny Bennassi
There was a mobile port as well, it had almost the same car list, but there was only like 15 events and they were all point to point as well
Got the chance to play the remaster thanks to gamepass.
Loved this game but the super low camera was always annoying to me
Easily the best Need for Speed game. And one of the best racing games ever.
Any plans for a TDU2 review?
Hot pursuit is still the peak of the series imo. A perfect fusion of what i loved about burnout and what I loved about need for speed
a really good burnout game with cops
I have a lot of fond memories of the multiplayer. It was just a blast to play.
I remember when they dropped the remaster during the height of Covid and I was playing that shit non stop and it was just as good as I always remembered it from back in the day when it first released
