I unironically love the look, aesthetic and the sound of Pro Street. Its a wonderful combination of illegal street racing and legal pro/semi-professional racing. It really feels like an event I would actually want to go to, even just as a spectator.
@@AnthroGearhead Feck off, just get a real Porshe and what can SUV's do that all wheel drive cars can't? Offroad? My mum's Subaru would reck any luxury SUV in the woods except maybe a Land Rover Range Rover. SUV's are just asshole minivans that contribute extra to global warming by burning huge amounts of fuel, wearing out huge Lamborghini rear tires, CVT's and increasing traffic because SUV's are the new plague of urban territory. The only real SUV's left these days are the Jeeps and some Land Rovers like the Defender. You don't race SUV's, REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, and sorry about the rant. You may now enter limp home mode.
I'm probably in the minority, but I like SUVs as well as other car types. Not necessarily for racing per se, more along the lines of something like, watching a big black truck deflecting bullets and ramming through walls in a sense. Or playing as that red SUV from 007: Everything or Nothing.
I truely love the atmosphere in this game, I still play it almost daily just for fun, I think people forgot that this is what games are meant for: to have fun.
@@Bobbyross1872 I agree. I see people "raging" all the time. If I get that mad trying to play a game, it's time to put it down. It's a game, you should feel powerful, not powerless. If you aren't smiling inside, it's not fun!
ProStreet and Undercover’s quality definitely had to do with their troubled development. I watched a (sadly now seemingly deleted) video detailing Undercover’s production and according to it, Undercover was originally set to come out in 2007; however EA and Black Box quickly realized development would take longer than expected and, rather than simply not release a Need for Speed game that year, Undercover’s development team was split in two groups: one would continue their work on Undercover, while the other would create a “filler” game as a holdover for NFS fans, which came in the form of ProStreet. Not helping was that Skate was also still in development and while EA opted to give Undercover a less strict development cycle, much of the core Black Box staff left the company in summer 2007 and went to other studios or founded new ones (like United Front Games). The odds were basically stacked against Black Box unfortunately, with the only solace being they could focus solely on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC versions since the ones on other systems were outsourced to different companies. While I myself will always have nostalgia for Undercover since it was my first seventh-gen game, looking at it now I feel it could’ve been so much more. (Also, this is an aside but ProStreet and Undercover were also the first NFS games to have micro-transactions; on the 360 and PS3 versions if you don’t have enough money to buy a car or part the games will ask you if you’d like to buy it using real money even if you haven’t unlocked it, which GameSpot and GameTrailers called “unfair” and “questionable” in their respective reviews of ProStreet and Undercover. Yeah, unfortunately EA’s been doing this kinda thing for much longer than you’d think).
ProStreet is far better than Undercover tho, in every way. They fucked up with Undercover completely and no Undercover wasnt meant for 2007 at all. It's development started in early 2007 alongside ProStreet. Information floating around its development time are damage control lies spread especially after retarded outcry at ProStreet which it did not deserve, they wanted to backtrack to illegal street racing and say that they will make it good, but they didnt, Undercover is terrible gameplay wise and carries nothing over except for partially car sounds from ProStreet, which is does far worse aswell together with car behaviour, camera work and handling.
@@Kacpa2 I Already think, that Carbon was not a good title. it was funny and anoying to drive in reverse and try 180 spin. I FFFFing fliped miy challnger every FFFFickng time. And ProStreet, i still think it is a decent titel, but it was also a title, where i realy realised, how much is it rushed. Glitchy graphics on the Bodykit and some stuff not executet well. Also anying was the speedlimit wich is set on 406 KM/H (Dont forget this game includet the Veyrone wich has, oh suprisingly, a topspeed of 406 KM/H) and it was totaly missbalanced espacily when its going to the speed challange. But here was it most important to tune your car right and take some cool down moments in the race. i used a softer set up with many downforce to eliminate the humping on the track to keep the car under control. In speed challange to win the race, you have not to get the car fast as posible, insteat you need to keep the car controlable as possible. But there is so many suprising stuff too going on, cars like the Toyota Supra or Dodge Challanger where at the beginning low tear cars, but the have many potential to make them to top tear cars. Toyota Supra is great for nearly everything. When you start to boost the car up, they would reach over 1000hp. and thats the same for the dodge. But i liked very much to drift a e93 M3. I think ProStreet was a kind of a missed opertunety to spawn a great spin off serie. I mean, the shift series was not bad. But it had could make it more like Gran Turismo and more realistic.
You can customize the reward cars, just create a new blueprint for it. All the parts that are installed on the pre-customized one will be free to install
@@TorutheRedFox you still have the stage 4 parts already bought though. The only thing you can't recreate are the vinyl designs. You can even tune the boss's blueprints if you go in a practice race.
@@boyman7823 I think most wanna use those cars for the vinyls and looks of the cars tho so it still defeats the purpose. That's one thing that always bugged me as well
@@hashrulsubzero really ? I dont remember him saying that but i do saw a purple 67 GTO which was a bad choice for speed challenges ( a lot of cars were rubbish in this game i dunno why )
Speaking of uncontrollability, I first played this on the wii and never had issues with steering. When I tried this on PC it was unplayable and the joystick from an Xbox controller was better but still hard. Really makes it feel like the handling model was designed for a motion controller
I do like the whole festival atmosphere. The talking of the announcer in the menus and all that. Many games copied the tire warm up thing after pro street. The perfect game would be a mix of open world illegal racing like Horizon or TDU (just at nighttime maybe) and track based race and drag events like Pro Street or Forza Motorsport.
Which ones? I can't recall any game using the warm-up your tires thing after prostreet unless I'm wrong. The only one I can think of is Unbound, but my expectations on that average based drag race is meh
This was my favorite need for speed game ever. They nailed the cars, the money system, the sense of speed, the customization, the progression. The sense of risk and reward from taking your car on speed challenge races. The sound track was so enjoyable to listen to in the summertime while playing this game. Coming back to it a couple years later, I noticed the small flaws in physics but the game is still a blast and I really wish the multiplayer was more usable.
Disappointed that you didn't like this title. I personally consider this to be one of the best titles in the series. The graphics, smoke effects, soundtrack, car selection, customization, event-specific car system, damage models, the setting with the DJ and crowds hanging out looking at cars, and so much more made this game so unique. They did a lot of things right and while there were many flaws, many of which you pointed out, overall I think the game is a great experience for a racing game fan. It's a must have for me in a racing game collection.
Yes ProStreet was a fun, fresh game and not something I anticipated at the time. Carbon was not fun for me for some reason i don't remember so my expectations were high in 2007. My first replay i didn't even know you could dominate that day and get another card xD It was hard at first and me being a kid and using all of the assists. But in you get better and when you nail that perfect drift with your RX-7 in Tokyo, it's much more satisfying than what HP2010 or MW2012 did
It was a GREAT game. No other racing game gave me a better rollercoaster ride of frustration, adrenaline and satisfaction than what Pro Street gave me. Sure it has a lot of drawbacks due to its quick development, but once you get into the game, you’ll find yourself not stopping.
I was waiting for the review too, and might finally give this game a try. Even the negative statements he made are somehow convincing me to play. This level of honesty on what he likes (or not) and why, I can't ask for more from a reviewer.
Yeah, the handling for this game is not bad at all, actually feels amazing on King difficulty. People just assume that because it is Need for Speed you have stupid grip physics which funnily enough ProStreet wants you to drive a bit more sensibly with proper throttle control and decent timing of brake zones.
Weirdly the cloest thing is SHIFT on psp, as its got events (Battle machine etc) and even characters from Prostreet. Should have BEEN the psp Prostreet.
The two things i truly love about this game was the creativity for liveries, such as Touge Union for an example. Also the damage mechanics. They were flawless. 100+mph into a wall didn't smash a single headlight with a scratch on the bumper like today's race games, they fucked your car up entirely.
*Is underrated. Also Colourshed has to rereview he run into issues i never ever had o my ps3 pal version or PC(with unfinished booster pack installed on windows 7) no crashes, freezing or other technicalities. on ps3 only music went silent for split second at times when ps3 struggled to load everything in time but no freezing ever happened

This game had a lot of potential, great setting, soundtrack, cars and interesting idea overall. Unfortunately EA didn't give them enough time to finish the game properly..
I have some huge gripes with this video. Although you got a lot right (easy AI [Ryo and co especially], uneven difficulty, etc) I literally never had a single glitch/crash with ProStreet on Xbox 360. I also think you have never driven a car in real life before, well at least fast because you said you can’t turn a car while braking which is 100% realistic. If your breaking hard through a corner (which you shouldn’t be doing anyway) then you won’t be able to turn properly. Drift events were very finicky but once you crack the code it got pretty easy. Decent review otherwise.
I'm suprised he didn't mention my least favourite flaw mostly: the booster pack. "Free" DLC with £12 of vehicles you have to buy. Most of his gripes in drift would probably be gone with a well tuned RX7
With the right tune i can crush any race. Sometime i would triple the target drift score. My drag races i would give AI a head start and smoke them. And Speed tracks you needed the perfect car or tune to stick to the track. This game was all about fine tuning your cars thats what made it the best to me
After installing the Energizer Lithium extender pack, I personally had issues with crashing in the mid to late game, especially in races related to the pack. I had tried to find out online if anybody else had this issue and what the fix/cause could be I hadn't heard of anybody having this issue until I watched this vid. Still wonder what could have caused it though.
Easily, the game with the best car sounds I think I have ever heard. Not to mention how powerful the cars actually feel in your hands, you can feel the torque of a turbocharged Skyline through the screen, I think it's the camera movements. Very well done.
last comment. I think some of the handling problems you had were with the way the car was tuned, as that has a rather large impact on the driving. The drifting is extremely frustrating until you figure out exactly how it works. And those glitches with loading and crashing are a ps3 only problem from my experience. Great review though. while I enjoy it a lot your points are very valid. Thanks for the wonderful video!
Was really looking forward to this review. I know I'm in the minority on this, but this is my absolute favorite NFS. I love the track day/car festival approach to racing and the style this game has. Definitely before its time. I'd even go as far as to say that Pro Street is a better representation of car culture today than it was back in 2007. The development documentary "Birth of Need for Speed Pro Street" really shows that as well. The car selection is great - really has something for everyone. The damage model is great. The story of this game is pretty subtle. I love that you get most of the information from the announcers - both about yourself and other drivers. I agree with you that the "bosses" of each category are pretty weak. Ryo was probably the hardest, but take a look at something like the Speed King - that's just laughable. I would also agree that the livery system is super clunky, especially taking into account the great amount of vinyls on offer. I'd disagree with the handling - I think it's good. It really comes down to which car you are using and its setup. With the right setup you could get most cars handling the way you'd need. You can also really feel the weight of each car. I guess it's important to note I've only played on PC, so these and other problems you've mentioned are different or not present on PC. I love Pro Street. Its ideas were ahead of its time. The greatest bit of damage the game took was because it came right after MW and Carbon. The contrast made critics and many players dislike it. Also - longer development would probably greatly benefited it, but this is EA we're talking about. I'm still happy with what we got and I'm glad to see others in comments love it as well. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to more reviews - especially Midnight Club 3 and NFS: The Run. Cheers!
This comment right here. Absolutely loved the crashes in this game actually, especially in speed challenge. Like the repair approach. Loved the cars and the sounds. Driving itself could be better but it was still better than most NFS titles.
he literally just pointed out everything that's wrong with the game and you're saying the only thing that's wrong with it is the point grinding? Sheeps have No limit.
MICOLE WHYTE #Oneplus6T#LG,G6 Sheep usually listen and follow their owners, if you are trying to make us out like sheep by saying, ‘but he said this so your wrong’ that makes people like you sheep. The reason we like the game is like what the review I watched of the RX7; its an unreliable nightmare, it has limited space, lacked torque, noisy, gas-gussling, etc but the reason why people like the car is because of those flaws as it gives the car character. That is no different here. Most Wanted had a shit tier handling system and the cops were only difficult if you made them difficult. Most of the soundtrack was not even listened to and the cutscenes were jarring at the least but why do you like it? You like MW because of the memories it gave and the character it had. We are no different. You can use this logic for most things in life so think about using this logic in different situations.
@@pp3k3jamail While some points are perfectly valid points that I do agree with (as an avid fan of ProStreet, it's definitely in my top 3 NFS games, behind U2 and tied with MW; yes, I consider U2 better than MW, and I consider ProStreet comparable to MW, sue me), most are either just comparisons to what people expected coming into ProStreet from MW or Carbon (understandable, but not really valid, especially in retrospect), very netpicky, coming from ignorance, or otherwise are flat out wrong. - Ryo's lack of depth and a lack of actual story is kinda of a valid point, but as OP pointed out, NFS games generally don't have strong stories anyways, so this can be excused. - As far as the game being set in organised, legal events, the OP basically said it themselves, it wasn't an objectively bad move, it was just different. People expected open streets to explore, a wanted/cop system, etc, but they didn't get that. Naturally they'd be upset, but, again, not an objectively bad move, just different. - Flashy and excessive advertisements in-game is a very superficial and honestly nitpicky point, but to humour the point, I'd argue it plays into the over-the-top nature of ProStreet. I mean, honestly look at what ProStreet is thematically, and how the world is presented. Most of it *is* very over-the-top, flashy, and excessive. Ads, screens and billboards everywhere just plays into that over-the-top-ness, further creating the atmosphere. - The "map" is pretty annoying to navigate initially, but once you get used to it, it isn't that hard. Beyond navigation, I honestly think it's a rather unique take on a "progress map" of sorts, and, again, plays into that over-the-top-ness, further creating the atmosphere. - Sector shootout is not nearly as hard or convoluted as the OP makes it out to be. It is based off of how fast you travel from A to B, but in all of my time playing, I've never had to fight an AI opponent the whole race to keep a sector broken, unless I either keep messing up on my way to that sector, or the AI is doing some super jank shit, which I've never seen it do. For the most part, once you get into the second lap, you're good. - Group B cars starting behind group A cars is a point I can agree with. - Having to do the burnout minigame before each stage is kinda whatever, it'd be nice not to do, but it really isn't an issue. - Leading up to the 4 race type kings (ie drag, drift, grip, speed), there is a bit of variance in the race types, at least for drag. The first drag event only contains 1/4 mile drag runs, and maybe a 1/2 mile drag run or two, the second event adds a wheelie comp or two, and the third adds multiple of both 1/2 mile and wheelie comps. All 3 types do play fairly differently (1/4 mile is about acceleration, 1/2 mile about top speed, wheelie is about trading control for being able to pull long wheelies). - The kings are extremely easy, I'll give the OP that. - That's why Ryo is called the *showdown* king, he's the king of showdowns, not the king of a particular race type. To be able to race against him, just have to complete all 3 showdowns. - You can change what race type a car is for, even if it's a car you won at an event, or from one of the kings. It literally says it in the bottom right in the footage. The downside is that you lose all blueprints, but you do keep the parts unlocked, so you can take a speed car you won from an event, change it to drag, and use the same parts it had when it was for speed. - Can agree with the vinyl/decal tools needing work. - AutoSculpt does impact performance, but not as much as the actual performance tuning, in my experience. I do feel a difference in the traction of a car with high downforce versus low, same with how easy it is to pull a wheelie. - Performance tuning being so impactful is something I liked about ProStreet, because it gave so much more depth to the way you built your cars. Maybe steps could have been taken to make tuning a bit easier to use as a newer player, but it being so impactful is good, IMO. - As far as every part being necessary is concerned, OP is thinking too much like an arcade racer. Think about it logically. You've sunk a hundred grand in a car, upgrading the engine, dumping a new drivetrain in there, bolting on a turbo or supercharger, and fitting a powerful nitrous system, but spent nothing on the tires or suspension. With stock tires, how is the power meant to get to the ground, without slipping? With a stock suspension, how are you meant to keep the car going straight when it's got so much power? By not upgrading the tires, OP limited how much power could get to the road, as the rest would be wasted through the tires slipping. Think about it using real world logic, instead of arcade logic. - While you can make a new blueprint on an event/king's car, I do agree that it would have been a good idea to allow us to change the existing blueprint, as far as performance is concerned. There *is* a workaround, however, in that if the car has preinstalled performance parts that are at the tier you'd like (stage 3 or 4, for instance), you *can* enter practice mode during an event, and performance tune the car that way. As OP already said, performance does come the most from correct tuning (especially if the preinstalled parts are already good), so you can tune the car this way while keeping the same visuals. - As far as players figuring it all out without instructions, I mean, I did. When I first heard about this game, I asked a kid in my class whether he had it and, if so, did it have any cops. He said yes, and I believed him, that's how little research I had done on the game, and I didn't do any even when I got it. I figured it out fine as I went along, so it shouldn't be that hard for anybody else. - You're given so many insurance markers during events, you don't even need to pay actual cash to repair your cars. - The faster you're going, the more damage you'll take. Simple as that. Nothing to do with how expensive the car is. - Repairing when restarting is optional, I don't repair unless I've taken heavy damage or totaled the car, or won and am leaving the event. - People legit have cars that drift around corners, when fully spec'd for grip, because they have so much power, and they can drive fine without crashing too often. Hell, I can drive fine without crashing too often, driving a Skyline R34, fully spec'd for speed, at 370km/h (91% of the speed cap), on the Nevada track (easiest to crash on, IMO). The most damage I'll take is some light damage, with the occasional total or two, if I royally screw up. - If you're distracted by signs that are blurred out from the intense motion blur, that sounds more like a problem with you, than the game itself. I can concentrate on the road just fine. - The input delay is a bit jarring when first playing, but once you get used to it, it's mostly fine. Being unable to turn while braking is a non-issue, brake coming into the corner, not through the corner. Nitrous really depends on how you've tuned it, it can either be a lifesaver if you've crashing and need to get back into the race, or it can be a speed boost if you need a burst of speed. - Drifting can be annoying at times, but once you get in the groove, again, it's mostly fine. Tuning the car to suit your driving style helps a ton. - Both drift races during that Ryo event were a pain in the ass for me, but not because of the handling, rather because of the narrow streets combined with the wide turns. Barely enough room to properly drift, not enough room to fishtail to start a drift or get some points up. - AI can be pretty shitty. Haven't really had any "accidental aggression" like what the OP describes, where the AI turns into missiles unintentionally, more had the AI just being dumb shits. - I've played this on the PS2, PS3 and PC, and can't remember the bugs shown in the video, at all. Currently playing it on PC, haven't had those bugs. - The PS3, 360 and PC versions of the game might not add much gameplay-wise (biggest addition I can think of is the wind tunnel, which is just a visualisation of the AutoSculpt drag/downforce system that all versions have, and the additional cars on the track), but visually, they do add some decent upgrades. Damage was hugely upgraded (most I can recall from the PS2 version were bumpers, doors, hood, trunk just falling off, rather than dangling off), lighting was upgraded, smoke effects were upgraded, car models & textures were upgraded, and extra world decorations were also added. - Don't remember that crash happening to me on my PS3 playthrough. As I said, IMO, this game isn't objectively bad, it's just different. When you look at it for what it is, it's a pretty damn good NFS entry that is just severely ahead of its time. ProStreet's setting of legal racing with street racing influences has a fantastic atmosphere, is a great match for NFS thematically, and has a ton of potential. IMO, it's hugely underrated, and a sequel with better tech, better handling, more cars, overhauled tuning, etc, would easily be the best NFS entry as of late.
I prefer the UG1 soundtrack, but this one is alright I guess. Certainly not my favorite, but miles ahead of MW2012 and No Limits. But then again, I have never played a racing game with a truly terrible soundtrack.
@@Testtestnotest no, I know how to tune a car. But if you compare it to other "simulation" racers like asetto corsa, the driving physics are neither realistic nor arcady. Its a weird in between that doesnt play well at least for me
I feel like Shift is better because it's actually playable and doesn't piss me off as much, the menus aren't as archaic and the framerates are much more consistent.
I found this game in a store, remembered how frustrating it was as a little kid and said "fuck it. I'll buy it" Never had so much fun in legal racing. It's legal, but feels like it has that kind of illegal vibe, like it's about to cross the line. "Let's see how illegal can be while being legal". Dunno, something like that I really love it, seriously. And the fact that from 4 types of races, they made a lot of creative stuff, like the wheelie competition. 10/10
ProStreet is one of my absolute favorite NFS games. Gameplay is so much fun, it's super replayable, collection of both real and fictional tracks, great cars/customization, and an awesome ambiance. EDIT: Sector Shootout is a time trial that's split up into 4 stages. It's entirely based on fastest time, and you can only score if you got the fastest time.
11:25 Yes, you can change the mode for these cars, its even shown down there at the bottom left. Only thing is, you loose the blueprint and have to make another
Still looks pretty good and runs really well on PC. Just make sure you use a mod to unlock the framerate again if you decide to install the patches and updates
I come back to this game time and time again. My favorite part of the game besides the atmosphere, is by far the speed challenges. It's sad I don't see arcade racers do that more, cuz it's an awesome idea. It's the ultimate give and take high speed race where getting too risky can cost you your car and I love that
I love this game so much. The whole idea of amateur street racers being brought to proper organised sanctioned closed events. No other game has ever managed to capture the spirit of grassroots motorsport quite like this game.
I really wished they would make another ProStreet game as it is my favourite NFS game but I feel that the bad reception the Shift games got is putting them off making another 'legal' track racing game like ProStreet again
The reason Shift failed is because they try to market it as a full-on racing sim, like Assetto Corsa and rFactor. The devs said that it was going to be a "Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport killer". They failed because the physics engine was wonky in terms of its gravity and suspension model. However, if you would like to play the successors of the Shift series, then you should play Project CARS. Project CARS 1 and 2 use the same physics and engine as the Shift series, but tweaked to further resemble real life. They'te not die-hard sims like rFactor 2, but when they get it right, they get it so right.
I love this game so much. I played this for countless hours on wii a while back and playing it on pc just makes it better. The atmosphere, customizing, cars. Just so so good!
Most Wanted was too repetitive and convoluted with doing the same races on the same roads. How much Wanted Level Do I need? How much Bounty? Okay. Now that I've beaten that racer, I've got to do it all again, except this time it's twice as much? So forth and so on.
17:57 you can't turn your car while braking, really? You do know in most racing sims and in real life your not suppose to do that either right? It makes the car lose cornering grip because your now asking them to turn and brake.
Unless you have some really good ABS on your car, yeah, you're probably are just going to lock up the front tires, not turn and neither stop for the corner
The problem with this game is that auto-brake is always active, without the game telling it to you and without any means to de-activate it in the menus. Once I became aware of this, at around 40% of the game, I immediately stopped playing and had a very bad feeling of having been fooled into thinking I was controlling the car while I wasn't.
Facts. Everybody praises underground and most wanted but shit on everything else. Its kinda sad. Pro street had a similar style to payback and i love payback. Its kinda sad that people dont appreciate it as much.
I have to disagree with couple things. 1. You said that starting order in multi class race is wrong because there is high risk of damaging your car while overtaking slower class cars. But when you think about it, it's not so wrong. In real life multi class racing (mostly endurance) overtaking cars of different class is one of the characteristic points in endurance racing. You can gain or lose a lot of time and managing traffic on track is very important skill. Black Box tried to emulate that but they couldn't make an hour long endurance race. So to make it work they decided to reverse starting grid of multi class races. Thanks to that you have a challenge of traffic on track without long races. 2. In the video you mentioned that it is wrong to pay for damage after every restart of race and that you pay more for damage in more expensive cars. Well... deal with it. If you crashed your car then its understandable that you have to pay for what you did. If you want to have cool expensive cars then be prepared that for better performance you may have to pay more. And all that can be solved by... not crashing. I know that shit happens sometimes. But thanks to this mechanics you actually have to pay attention to your driving. 3. Alright, I agree that AI in NFS PS is pretty shit. But you said that sometimes they crash you out and YOU have to pay for your damage. Well, thats how it works in real racing. Sometimes drivers crash because of other drivers. But that doesnt mean that guy who caused a collision pays for damage for both cars (i mean in racing). 4. Breaking and turning at the same time is not a good idea especially in a game that tries to be realistic.
Yeah man, I'm baffled that he didn't got the point of multiclass racing, its obviously trying to emulate the traffic aspect of endurance racing but in a short race. Also complaining about paying for damage everytime you restart is dumb, just learn to drive properly and don't crash your car everywhere. If this game was more strict you shouldn't even be able to restart the race if you totaled your car, or even restart period, which would be far more realistic, its a track day and you don't get a second chance to race if your car isn't properly working
Man i remember i went nuts with the vinyl customization on my old PS2 and goddamn the soundtrack was amazing too, after U2 this is my most favourite NFS
I seldom paid for damages thanks to the generous amount of those insurance markers youre rewarded with throughout the career. You had like 25 unspent??
I remember Subway had toys for ProStreet's release. They were little plastic hot wheels sized cars with launchers, but the wheels were just molded onto the car's body, so it wouldn't roll and didn't go anywhere when launched. Good times.
This is my favourite NFS game, just the aesthetic alone makes it that. Also, I noticed that there IS a rubberband system, it’s just different, I also tuned a Pagani for grip (all stage 3 parts totaled in 904 bhp) and realised that the sector shootout became impossible, so I tuned a Honda Civic (494 bhp) and noticed that in the sectors where I would get ~980 points to start with in a Pagani, with the Honda it was ~1300 points.
Same happened to me I had a murcielago for grip and noticed I was getting less points but when I use a stage 4 tuned 240sx I won the sectors all the time weird
Its not so much a rubberbanding system, but a balance of performance. Slower cars always get more lenient target times compared to cars with very high base performance stats to keep them competitive. I think its a nice idea, it allows for all cars in the game to remain somewhat competitive at certain events even later on. Even though it give a slightly too big advantage to cars like the Corolla especially in Sector Shootout events.
I enjoyed this review BUT there is a few things i want to clarify and to help you understand. 1.)Drag racing has rounds & that better tires is needed for this event otherwise you just spin the car and never reach the finishline 2.)drift racing has rounds too judges judge and give points each round setting competitors against each other every round until the final two end up drifting for the overall win example Pro street. 3.)the sector events is based on who gets to the next sector quickest meaning yes the car ahead is winning but ofcourse that's cause he got there quickest in a time trialed fashion. 4.)The cost to repair cars of different calibre makes sense a veyrons tires cost $25 000 a set a renault clio's maybe $1000 grade meaning fixing them obviously will cost more when damaged BUT i do agree the repair for restarting or repair to do a new race bit is annoying rather make that an option and not a must. 5.)NO the damage doesn't stop you from wanting to make a car faster you just like in real life has the responsibility to not damage your car practice makes perfect here and hence we are not racing drivers in real life i mean there is a reason people on the streets end up crashing bugatti's into rivers and lambo's into other cars when race drivers nearly never get into these type accidents. 6.)Racing is very hard average people continously believe they can beat micheal shumachher when in reality there is massive levels to this which means crashing is easy in racing race drivers only crash rarely but when average people attempt to race along with them they crash within the first hour or so unless they have a natural understanding of Racing i had the chance to go round a gymkhana course in a new jaguar X type with a pro driver on a very sketchy course she handled it easy a few months later me and a semi pro racing driver friend crashed in a basic left turn he wanted to slide around just like the pro did we almost ended off a cliff due to the slide a similiar slide this women did in her test car multiple times racing makes crashing easier cause most drivers can't race properly i've finished nfs PS about 30 times and i rarely damage my car unless i was pushing it wayy too far. alright no hate on the review BUT this is one of my faves NFS games i am not gonna go in depth why there is a few key mechanics etc. that is annoying about the game but as shown many iv'e countered here i for one replay this game often cause i am a racing fan since i was a kid and this game could have been better but it semi was good enough Most wanted trounces it by far but this game was far better then the newer need for speeds we get nowadays where EA never listens to their fans so yeah i'm fine with the review but don't like it personally.
The Porsche 911, with assists set to casual is the best for sector shootout because of the points (it has relatively slow target times) and the AI driving slower.
Prostreet is my favourite need for speed game, the atmosphere, the car customisation and the sense of speed on the speed challenges. It also brings me back to when i was a kid so nostalgic for me
Everything but the handling physics makes this a top 3 NFS at least. EA really needs to promote a sequel or a similar game. Skate 4 and prostreet 2 please.
1.)Most wanted 2005 2.)NFS Underground 2. 3.)NFS Carbon 4.)Nfs pro street 5.)Nfs Underground 1. 6.)Nfs porsche unleashed or 2000 in other countries 7.)Nfs hot pursuit 3 8.)Nfs Undercover 9.)Nfs 2 10.)NFS payback
Have you tried using manual with *clutch* in this game? It makes your gear shifting a lot smoother (like in a real car, duh!) and the car goes a lot quicker because you're not losing couple of seconds and not losing a lot pickup power (power lag on the acceleration).
i played this on the Wii when it launched, and i loved every minute of it. using the motion steering felt like i was actually driving something real when i was 8 years old lmao
I have always seen some of your videos in my recommended section, but I always thought that "it's not worth watching a review on a 10 year old game", "why would even anyone make a review on old games?"... I had nothing to do today and I saw this video in my recommended. But this time i decided to click it, and wow... the quality of the video, editing, speech is awesome. I will definetly watch all of your videos and I regret that I didn't watch them sooner, when they were in my recommended section. Thanks for making these awesome and entertaining videos.
Prostreet is underrated, really ahead of its time. Taking your car that you created your project dream vehicles and took them to track days and auto crossed. Example like D1GP. Or grassroots racing/drifting. Something that’s lowkey a slice of life in car culture under our noses.
My only gripe about this review is the physics. From the gameplay it looks like you're trying to treat this the same as the previous games which are extremely generous about reckless driving and how all cars drive similar leaving very little learning curve. This game emphasizes on the using the right car for the right events and understanding every car does not handle the same. For instance, the Honda Civic hatchback I won from the sponsor event was originally a drag car I changed to a grip car. It understeers badly around tight corners and spins the front tires like crazy when accelerating from low speeds but makes up for it by having the fastest acceleration of any car in the game once the front wheels gain grip. I exploit that feature on tracks with long straights and few tight corners.
"Whatever that is" at 20:20 into the video, is a view from below the track. This happens when a car goes "out of bounds" , and the "out of bounds" physics, has essentially been the same since Porsche Unleashed, where there is a "hole" in one of the walls about mid way on Zone Industrielle. "Out of bounds" play is more common on the open map games, Most Wanted, Carbon, World, and perhaps Underground 2.
the game was an awesome nfs. you really get the trackday feeling and the different races were great too. the speed events feels great. the drag(and wheely) events was cool.
I remember playing through this game with a friend on a weekend on his new laptop. I've got such great memories playing this game. Driving in the daylight for once gave me a better look at the cars and being closed legal races made the game more about skillful driving rather than avoiding traffic.
Whats even worse is that there was a glitch or something on the PS2 which always corrupted your data Sometimes it deleted your entire Memory Card Probably it had to do with a bug while autosaving or something. ffs
Prostreet is one of the underrated NFS games and it is actually pretty good Sure it is not like street racing but the career, story, cars, and the customization was what made this a great game Really want to play Prostreet again
Toxic Potato maybe the graphics were okay but it did age well and it is still a fun game to play Underground, Most Wanted (2005), Carbon, and the original Need for Speed series would be the best of NFS
@Toxic Potato The steering is pretty bad, like who thought, that making cars have tank slapping is good. The drift is somewhat railroaded. Don't know about other issues
This game's servers were shut down in 2013 and since then the continue button became completely broken and the game requires unofficial fixes in order to be playable. How irritating
I hated how your car brakes automatically when approaching a turn, even with all help removed in the options. Stopped the game at once when I understood it was the case.
I spent lots of time with this game, replaying every race days, I didn't want to finish the Ryo race because it'll make the game lifeless to me after the game is completed. I enjoyed the customization (albeit not as super detailed as 2015 or Heat) and they really nailed the engine sounds for almost every car (it felt great on headphones cranked up), whwnever I attend race days, I would leave the game idle until the menu disappears and just imagine being in an actual race day with your creation.. But one thing I've always noticed; in some certain Grid Class races, how is it sometimes I get to start in front of the group, whereas most of the time we're supposed to start behind the pack?
Idk why I just thought of this now, but does anyone remember the ATV Arcade racer by Disney called Pure? I remember being surprised by how fun that game actually was.
@Vixen1525 I can't quite remember what I was referring to but I think you press the look back button followed by the directional pad it's been so long since I commented that and played the game
The handling is mostly bad in Grip because of the responsiveness. When you give steering input, the car rather slowly accumulates steering angle - which is fine if not too well done, but when you let go to return to neutral, instead of steadily straightening it immediately does so. It makes taking corners on a keyboard particularly frustrating, and even gamepads with much faster steering rates suffer from this. You can see this when you take a corner at full steering, and then move the left stick only halfway in that direction; the car instantly moves straighter, while returning to full lock takes much longer. In Drift, it's bad because of the assists going on all the time. Indeed, there are strategies not too well explained to gather points properly, but there are a few annoying bugs and track designs (both especially in Tokyo) that don't play well with the slow responding cars. To fix at least the Grip car problems, upgrade the suspension and set the steering ratio to the highest it can be. The 240SX, as much of a slow car as it is from the start, is genuinely one of the better cornering rides in the whole game, matching even a Zonda in turns. It's actually jarring to see how many cars which would be perfect candidates for given race modes turn out to be absolutely terrible without copious money spent in tuning (and especially manual + clutch mode, looking at you Skyline GTR). The AI cars don't take into account your own car, it's just that the further you go into the event tree the better cars they drive. Also I never noticed the problems with microloading mid-levels or missing props. You were playing on the PS3, right? I only do on PC, so that might be a factor.
Yeah, its so dumb, most cars handle really sluggish because of this problem with the steering. In games like Gran Turismo when you play with the gamepad you can just choose how fast the car steering angle reacts to your inputs, and it just feels much more natural
Speed : Skyline Grip : 240SX/911 Turbo Drift : Silvia Drag : Supra/70' Charger im too lazy to grinding, im not even beat the game 'cos "enter glitches". too bad, this is my fav franchise of nfs
I have a question: does the whole "game crashes at 50% completion after completing a raceday on PS3 thanks to the update" thing affect *all* of us, or does it just affect poor old ColourShed? I am *very* nervous.
This was a a seriously underrated game. Greatly improved graphics, an AWESOME soundtrack and perhaps the best atmosphere in the whole series. This is probably my favourite NFS behind Underground 2.
ProStreet has a notorious cursor bug where after winning a race, the controls basically stop. Nothing works. Clicking on continue or restart doesn't work, pressing the enter or space key, doesn't work, leaving only alt+f4 as an option. Tons of people have been getting this problem but to this day i don't know how to fix this. But back when i didn't have this bug, i did enjoy the hell out of the game. Edit: My favorite NFS will always be Most Wanted 2005, that's the first NFS i ever played and i love it to death.
I dont remember having to tune the 1970 dodge charger to wheelie , just maxing it out in power and suspension and it would just wheelie the entire dragstrip.
Personally I think this was better than Shift. Shift was not NFS at all and was basically a clone of GRiD. This hands down besides Most Wanted was one of my favorites
I grew up with Underground 2, so closed tracks wasn't something I liked, however now that I'm older, I actually do like it. That being said I can't say I this is the game I would rate as ''good''. Yes there's a nostalgic aspect to it that kinda makes me smile when I look at the game, but the it was way too easy and way to repetitive. Also for a game named ''need for speed'' there is not much ''speed''. Speed challenges were the only race types that felt like a NFS game. I'm honestly surprised while reading the comments, since most of them say nothing bad about the game...
11:22 Four years late, I know but; this is a bit of misnomer. You can swap cars to any of the four disciplines(assuming they are eligible for drift, cars must be RWD to be used in that discipline), there is a little prompt in the bottom right corner when the vehicle is selected in the garage. You get to retain all your Stage performance parts purchases, bodykits, wheels etc. however the pre-set and custom blueprints that you created for the previous discipline will be lost. This will also include losing your paint, decal and vinyl selections; which does sort of discourage any *real* use of those features. Vehicles swapped from one discipline to another have no downsides or changes to if you had bought them and immediately set them up for that discipline so, there is quite a bit of fiddling and testing and tuning you can do with this to build the perfect car for your driving style in each discipline.

Offroad? Pro street and shift 1 are underrated.
@Nikos papadopoylos one reason why: you have horrible tuning. Find the right car and right tuning and you'll be tearing your opponents' asses apart
This and the shift series are criminally underrated
NFS Undercover at least had a good soundtrack
I could be wrong, but I think Dead Space 2 was the first game to have micro-transactions. If not, it was at least one of the earliest.

GREAT comment, I love the game as well, but it was a bit short imo.
@@rollercoaster478 to me its was too long

Longer development would have been great for this game. They would have been able to polish it more.
Haza he's alive!! Btw you can make a new blueprint for won cars, you own the parts on the cars
Yeah, exactly. Learnt that the hard way
I have played this game an endless amount of times and I have never once had trouble with the controls or the handling. GG
This is an underrated game that got too much hate , the only thing i dislike is the points grinding

@@pp3k3jamail this review is made by random PS noob so it doesnt even fucking matter

Well you saying the handling sucks whilst driving that BMW z4 comes as no surprise, that BMW is horrible to drive.
The E46 M3 is even worst for grip and drift , but speed and drag races are fine , nobody expected a M3 to be OP in drag races
The handling is pretty bad though, has always been one of my Maine issues with the game, and also the overall physics in the game are bad.
Only the 911 Turbo gets everything right , how fair is that 😡
Horrible to drive in this game, in Assetto Corsa its a joy to drive

I come back to this game time and time again. My favorite part of the game besides the atmosphere, is by far the speed challenges. My favorite racing game ever! So much fun
Though ProStreet felt anything else than legal. The physics were illegal 😂🙈

The hidden gem of the series. Definitely not as good as Most Wanted or Carbon, but still worth a play. Nice review.
Most Wanted was too repetitive and convoluted with doing the same races on the same roads. How much Wanted Level Do I need? How much Bounty? Okay. Now that I've beaten that racer, I've got to do it all again, except this time it's twice as much? So forth and so on.

Genetically Superior Nah, that would be the run
17:57 you can't turn your car while braking, really? You do know in most racing sims and in real life your not suppose to do that either right? It makes the car lose cornering grip because your now asking them to turn and brake.
Unless you have some really good ABS on your car, yeah, you're probably are just going to lock up the front tires, not turn and neither stop for the corner

The problem with this game is that auto-brake is always active, without the game telling it to you and without any means to de-activate it in the menus. @@anthonyforbes3773 Agreed, I mean I think of Most Wanted as a low point in the series
This game is recognized as underrated in the NFS community and not put in the shit list like undercover
If this game was more strict you shouldn't even be able to restart the race if you totaled your car, or even restart period, which would be far more realistic, its a track day and you don't get a second chance to race if your car isn't properly working
the soundtrack is the best EA Has ever put in a game.
MW is a close second
Both are equal in my opinion :)
@@mrspandel5737 Yeah, I was about to mention the Corolla, despite the game’s many flaws it’s still my favorite.
I enjoyed this review BUT there is a few things i want to clarify and to help you understand.
1.)Drag racing has rounds & that better tires is needed for this event otherwise you just spin the car and never reach the finishline
2.)drift racing has rounds too judges judge and give points each round setting competitors against each other every round until the final two end up drifting for the overall win example Pro street.

As a 9 year old with the last name Cooper whose older brother had a focus hatchback with tribal decals… this game was perfect.
Have you tried using manual with *clutch* in this game? It makes your gear shifting a lot smoother (like in a real car, duh!) and the car goes a lot quicker because you're not losing couple of seconds and not losing a lot pickup power (power lag on the acceleration).
Funny though how powershifting (shifting without lifting the gas) makes you faster than lifting the gas. Is that realistic?

I absolutely adore this game. Definitely a cult following for it. I honestly think they need to remaster this game first before anything else.
Whats even worse is that there was a glitch or something on the PS2 which always corrupted your data
Sometimes it deleted your entire Memory Card
Probably it had to do with a bug while autosaving or something. ffs
It did mine too and it was irritating..
I got it for PC and the file got corrupted just a few race days before the Watanabe race
I still have my data saved in my ps2 mem card and I still play it sometime.
Yeah, I had the same problem. So I didn't really bother with the PS2 version, not like the other versions were any better...
Loved that this game allowed you to use a clutch with the manual transmission. They need to make a new pro street.
Prostreet is one of the underrated NFS games and it is actually pretty good
Sure it is not like street racing but the career, story, cars, and the customization was what made this a great game
Really want to play Prostreet again
Yeah it definitely is underrated but it’s good tho
Toxic Potato maybe the graphics were okay but it did age well and it is still a fun game to play
Underground, Most Wanted (2005), Carbon, and the original Need for Speed series would be the best of NFS
Alain borgrave That only happens when you pirate the game, you asshole.
Shayaan A really? Lmao
11:20 you can change the mode of the car by pressing square in the screen before updating a car blueprint
I remember and I still have it and play it bruh. Lmaoo
Ah yes the first NFS with smoke effects and the ability to look around the car while racing
How do you look around the car? I never figured that out in this game :(
@Vixen1525 I can't quite remember what I was referring to but I think you press the look back button followed by the directional pad it's been so long since I commented that and played the game
Speed: Ford GT

I have a question: does the whole "game crashes at 50% completion after completing a raceday on PS3 thanks to the update" thing affect *all* of us, or does it just affect poor old ColourShed? I am *very* nervous.
Started the game a few days ago and I'm also wondering that. I really hope it was only him
This was a a seriously underrated game.
Use the 1.1 patch.
I love racing games, guys. What about you? One of the more fun genres.
I dont remember having to tune the 1970 dodge charger to wheelie , just maxing it out in power and suspension and it would just wheelie the entire dragstrip.
It needs stage 3 suspension to wheelie. The rest of the setup doesn't make that much difference.
Personally I think this was better than Shift. Shift was not NFS at all and was basically a clone of GRiD. This hands down besides Most Wanted was one of my favorites
Clone of Grid? Lol I have all three and Shift's more of a sim racer. Grid & ProStreet are both simcade's.
Grid?
Shift is Project Cars Lite and was a way to capitalize on the success of Forza Motorsport.
I'd take this game over any new NFS.
