No matter how much I love the Gran Turismo series above pretty much everything else in the racing game genre, I can't help but thank Need for Speed for not only be a catalyst to get me into racing games, but also the sheer number of games of it I played (and liked doing so) throughout its many releases (no matter how janky they may have been - I actually was someone who somehow liked NFS Undercover on the PS2). Regardless of what they'll be cooking in the future (or no matter which game I'll go back to), with this series there will always be a way to find (or satisfy) your Need... for Speed. ;)
Been awesome seeing this project come together over the past almost year since I first heard about it. It’ll take me probably 2 weeks to get through this but I’ll get there. Massive congrats on finishing this dude, all the best
This is one of the coolest ways to celebrate the 30 years of NFS's development! You did a pretty amazing job on the vid! I also appreciate the ProStreet bias because its one of my personal favourite NFS's in the franchise. The race day/track day esque festival vibes and the OST of that game are what made it special for me!
the musical selection for 2:44 shows that not only you can craft some of the most well put together documentaries but you also have beautiful taste when it comes to music
I’m still watching the premiere but still I’m gonna say this video is absolutely your magnum opus! Genuinely one of if not the best retrospective of the NFS series I’ve ever seen.
Projects like these are what need to see more in the racing game RUclips scene. Congrats on getting this video out there Fast, and props to the other creators involved who shared their perspectives on need for speed! I had a fun time watching this in the premier with everyone.
This is one of the best videos i've ever seen! BRAVO! worth all 4 hours and 21 minutes of my life, and you uploaded it just as i was rebooting the games up on my ps2 to replay them (The Blackbox Era)
Prostreet is responsible for me learning about Mondello Park. I have lived 10 minutes from Mondello for 20+ years. I now have a track bike, and next year I am burning rubber every track day I can get.
Wow, this is actually incredible. I don't usually write comments, but this is the best video about my favourite video game franchise I have ever seen. NFS games really had a huge impact on this generation of car lovers, it's amazing. Happy to be a part of this community. You have put a lot of love and passion into this, thank you for that. I love how diverse and different every NFS entry is, you made great arguments for each of them. I wish you happy holidays! P.S. Prostreet gang where are you at?
The effort certainly paid off, you did an uber excellent work with this man. How all games were documented and explained to constitute what is art on NFS... Seriously, such an amazing work dude. Congratulations once more in completing such a goliath project.
Man, that was CINEMA. I watched it almost on one sitting and I loved every one of your opinions and perspectives (I am one of those that defends NFS Pro Street was a great and underrated game in the franchise. But I also am one of those rare people that enjoyed Undercover too much 😅. Great work, Fastminers! This video was a great christmas gift and I hope we get more of this amazing work from you this next year. Cheers!
Man im only halfway through and it's been an amazing watch. ProStreet is absolutely my fav nfs too and I love to see others know what a gem it is also.
Dayyyyyyyyum over 4 hours long vid and NFS personally grabbed the popcorn already. This vid deserves millions of likes and billions of views for this dedication!
Finished this in two days and I gotta say... The amount of effort and dedication that went into you making this was amazing. Enjoyed it very much! Thank you for your hardwork, and keep doing what you do. Cheers from Brazil!
I was expecting some background noisr with occasional entertaining or educational bit but the whole thing was interesting and I really loved every second of it. Amazing job. I have been feeling so much nostalgia for underground 2 and installed it again today before watching you. While following the video I had strong emotions both good and bad depending on the game but honestly all of the games I played did have many things to enjoy. It makes me put on the rose tinted glasses and remince on the best moments I had with this series. Thank you for your work.
30 years... For a series in limbo once Unbound's online modes are done, I feel that there could be one more game that would work as a massive love letter. The Run's Cannonball Run/Gumball 3000 set dressings has a great premise that could be reworked if anything. Take The Run, rework it as a massive love letter to the series with past cities and past cars and rivals being brought back. Could be a fun premise.
This is the greatest love letter to Need For Speed anyone could have ever made. Absolute heads off to you and everyone involved in this. I can't even put it into words
Well done my man, this is an absolutely incredible video and I have a very strong feeling this won’t be even close to the last time I watch this, also this video really makes me want to talk for a couple hours to you about music, and need for speed
Amazing video! Quality and quantity never blend this good. I watch this while at work and 4 hours felt like a breeze. Crazy that you're not even at 50k. But if you keep this up, your first 100k will just be a breeze. Keep up the amazing work man. I'm so glad I subbed to your channel.
59:25 Fun fact, if you smash into rear of the officers when they're about to pull off and chase you, theyll get stopped before they even start and you will get some points from it too iirc!!
This video is so massive and perfect at the same time. Maybe it would be fine to see it split on 3-4 parts, but anyway I will back on it for a few times. This level of analyzing the series from an adult view giving me unlimited fun, thank you!
I will forever come back to NFS for its incredibly varied customization amongst all of its releases. Spending at least an hour customozing a car is something I've become very in tune with. NFS 2015, Heat, MW, and Underground have my eyes glued to them stylistically. Crazy to think that all started with the PS2 port of Undercover.
Your point on B2D in open world city games rings very true. Their binary nature of b2d explains my problems with 2015 and Unbound. (for the latter, It is mostly on me for having the RX7 as my favorite car, which is far too drifty for the late game races). I am so glad for UNITE turning 2015 into an almost platonic ideal version of it. Namco had a spinoff for Ridge Racer back in the day called Critical Velocity, which is an open world mission based driving game similiar to Driver. That never released outside of Japan. It had some Tekken-level FMVs and character designs, and a generic handling model that isn't like Ridge Racer's trademark brake-to-drift on rails handling. It even has Seaside Route 765 (integrated into the map) and the Crinale. While I wish the driving was more visceral, I think that not playing like the mainline is for the better. I cannot imagine Ridge Racer's drifting working in Critical Velocity's map.
Iam feel so fortunate to have gotten my first PC when NfS Underground launched, later U2 and MostWanted filled up much of my freetime after school :) Truly golden times, and 20 years later I still think that these wherent just rose tinted glasses. These older NfS still live rent free on every PC I had since, only Heat with Unite mod managed to get me playing a modern NfS for more than few days. There where many after great series around this time but stuff like Horizon 1 was only on console which I never had. Only emulation made it possible to play these old gems in recent years, and again I saw why these games get held so high...
On you not hating 2015's cutscenes, I also liked what it was going for story wise. It's a nice change of pace from the bog standard action plots of yore. It's more down to earth, and fits the fucko's doing drifts at an empty street at 1am vibe it has going on. It's kinda like having that one friend who constantly makes cringy jokes but you don't hate. It's what made the major downgrade in vibes and map in Payback stung. It's like the opposite of 2015, with only the handling and offline being the only steps in the right direction. The speed cards, truck commercial rock, poor sense of speed, the "would've been PG if it weren't for the swears" version of the Fast and the furious plot, and overall blandness. 2017 was a pretty great year for games, but not many racing games.
I remember being so confused by Payback. Everyone fucking loved everything about 2015 except the physics/handling... So their response was to bandaid the driving and then toss out everything the fans liked about the game. Bewilderment.
I really enjoyed the Black Box Era of NFS, not only because they were the ones I grew up with on the PS2, but because almost each and every one of them had a different feel/vibe to it. NFSHP2 was basically a newer version of NFSIII. NFS Underground/Underground 2 were all about the tuner culture at the time while also introducing a storyline (the story of Underground 2 being a sequel to Underground 1). NFS Most Wanted and Carbon had that same feel but with a more gritty story and cops. NFS Prostreet had that racing festival vibe to it that some other racers, like Forza Horizon and DiRT 2, were inspired by (but without all the Junkie XL bangers in Prostreet). And then there's NFS Undercook- I mean Undercover... Let's just say I enjoyed the hell outta that game mainly due to the hilarious glitches that were present in the game on the PS2 version. Incredible documentary dude, I enjoyed it. Peace.
Dude, when the song Sphere (I had to look it up, I'm sorry) from HP2 kicked in at 50:32, I got goosebumps. All time favourite of the series, and easily top 3 in the soundtrack department
3:49:00 I also wanted to remind you, those tailing missions were also in Midnight Club 2 & 3 when you'd need to race new racers. So to play devils advocate here, this isnt something NFS was the only ones to try this.
Dude thinking about it now, Black Box studios has to be ome of the most legendary developers of all time. The golden era of need for speed and then the skate games is a crazy 1-2.
Pro street actually made me a car guy and made me love racing games. I loved the speed races although would jump out of speed due to high speed crashes. I had a gtr r35 for all my grip races which really served me well.

That Black Box era montage gave me goosebumps bro

This digital footprint is now a part of history. And I can say it for every racer on the planet:
We are all happy that it is.

Video so amazing it should be tagged as a Need of Speed documentary for Netflix!
You know it's gonna be a long video when "art of" is in the title
Yeah, I'm trying to make that my mini series of more in-depth/more positive reviews
Yeah it's very good, great job man!
Wrong. His Tokyo extreme racer video titled 'The Art of Touge' was less than 20 minutes long
